Ladies Day Out

Thank you to the winner of last night’s auction! I am still flabbergasted at it! It makes me excited and humbled at the same time that “I” can sell doll dresses and people pay this much for them. I am very humbled that I was given this talent for sewing from the Lord and I truly want to give Him the glory for all He helps me create!

Now if I could just get more accomplished and creative around my house… I didn’t get my curtains hemmed, BUT… I DID get them pinned up, so the hemming is next! YAY! They hang better even with the pins in them.

Our Ladies Day Out on Saturday was pretty chilly, but we hurried from store to store and didn’t let it bother us too much! (We went to a town about 20 miles away.) There were eleven that went, but a few had to leave before lunch. One of the ladies in the group, Sylvia, took these pictures… and she graciously sent them to me so I could share them with you…I’ll show you where we went so you can “sort of” tag along with us… to see if there is anything that catches your eye! :o)

The first places we went were antique shops… we spent about an hour in each one and a few treasures were found by some… I brought home a greenish colored pumpkin I’m going to use on my Thanksgiving table… IF there is room… if not, it will be set aside to make way for the food.

This was the only picture Sylvia took of the antique shops. We were TOO busy looking at things to think to take pictures.

Our lunch was in a restaurant called The Vault. It was an old bank built over 100 years ago and it still has the vault in the middle of the room, with a table set up for 4. There were people who beat us to those seats, and we had too many anyway, but we still got our picture taken in front of it by the waitress…

Look at this massive door…

We hit a bath and soap shop called Lavish Bath Box and it smelled SO wonderful when you stepped inside… I took this picture of the inside of the building… it was old brick and such a fun space….

Down the sidewalk was another fun shop called Perfectly Posh and it was filled to the brim with Christmas and sweaters and soft fabric clothes, and every kind of gift you could ever hope to own (or give.) It was mostly too expensive for us, but we sure enjoyed looking!

Sylvia’s video is 34 seconds long, so you may have to wait a minute or so to have it load… It’s a panoramic view of the shop.

The outside of the building was a work of art, like so many of the down town buildings.

Here was another building with the Statue of Liberty on the side… It was HUGE!

Sylvia liked this building too.

After we left Posh, we headed back up the street and went to the Southern Illinois Mercantile… it had some crafty things and books and small gifts to give. They also had a soda fountain and Ice Cream! Most everyone indulged and tried something yummy!

There was another place called Picker’s Paradise and we headed there next. It had some old stuff mixed in with the new and the youngest of our group, I’m guessing she’s probably 17, found the “vinyl’s” (you know Long Play records to us oldies!) She bought some Perry Como, Andy Williams, some big bands, and some 45’s… ALL for $10! She was thrilled! (She did all this with us, while hobbling around on crutches with a hurt foot!)

The last stop of the day was to a wonderful coffee shop called Crown Brew…

Our group had dwindled down even more… but we went inside to get warm and see what new coffee there was to try… (I’m not a coffee drinker but it sure did smell good in there!)

It was 4:00 when we left and had to call it a day! On the way home we were even talking about where the next Ladies Day Outing could be… Looks like we’ll be doing this again sometime. It was a lot of fun!

Well, that was my adventure for the weekend…

Now it’s time to really turn to and get things done… Rebecca and Karn called Sunday night and we talked again for an hour and forty minutes. Depending on the weather they will be here either on Saturday or Monday… We have the menu all figured out for Thanksgiving and I’m ready for pumpkin pie myself! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, congratulations, Jeanne, on your Hugely successful auction of Addy’s dress!! It was amazing to watch, but not at all surprising, as it really was a lovely ensemble.

I’m so glad you had that Girls’ Day Out with your friends! After your extremely busy fall, you really needed–and Deserved!!–that day. Thanks to Sylvia for taking and sharing the pictures! I’m sure I won’t be alone in saying that I wish I could have tagged along! Lots of interesting-looking shops there! And of course The Vault for lunch!!

Oops, I called it “Girls’ Day Out, and it’s really “Ladies’ Day Out.” Sorry about that! (But, I’m 75, and still refer to friends my age as “girls”!! LOL)

How fun to have you “bring us along” Jeanne! What a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and out of the house! That clock tower looks familiar in the picture of the one with the Statue of Liberty painted on it. Is that in Marion, Illinois? If so, we have been there too!

The one picture that you show right after the bank vault restaurant has a floor that looks just like yours! For a second there, I thought you were back home!

It looks like you had a great time, and despite the cold, it wasn’t s own, rainy or icy. We sure had the wind here though, and are having a heck of a time getting leaves raked!

And don’t worry, Charlotte, about calling anyone over 75 a girl! We do it too!

That looks so fun! One time our friends showed us a place in Ava, Missouri, where there was still a soda fountain selling icecream for 10 cents a scoop, I think. You could donate extra if you wanted to support them since it costed them more than they were charging. We also saw a place with a bank vault from the olden days, but I’m not sure what town it was in. It might have been part of a library.

Thanks for taking us along and to the friend who took these great pictures. The Broad Building looks perfectly preserved right down to the street lights on the side of the building. How about the niche, too, and the beautiful bay windows on the building next door! And the street lamps! My friend who was the tour guide for two of my trips to France was taking pictures for a book about “wire shots” and the one of the building with the Statue of Liberty is a fine example. Someday wires will be history as they’ll all be buried but not just yet.

My daughter-in-law just bought a three-tiered cupcake stand that looks just like one in the picture. It has the cups with little knitted caps to hold the marshmallows and all the things for hot cocoa and elves watching over everything. What fun!

Please thank her for the picture of the group with you in it too and not behind the camera. She’s a really good photographer, framing the pictures so well. They remind me to visit Old Town in Anaheim some day while decorations are up.

So glad Rebecca and Karn can stay for a few days. 🥰

Well, now that Addy’s dress is done, I’m wondering who will be next? Congrats on your sale.
Looks like fun was had at your group get together. Lots to see for sure.
Since you have a new decoration for your Thanks/Christmas get together, it should be fun to decorate the table. I would suggest that putting the food on the side buffet would leave the lovely tablescape to enjoy during the meal. It would be fun with turkeys and Christmas figurines. 🙂 I’m sure you have lots of props to use. Maybe white plates, pretty water goblets, and some fun theme napkins would be nice too. Can’t wait to see your décor for the soon to arrive holiday.
We had fun Saturday celebrating grands 11th. Went out for Mexican food and came back for grands favorite Oreo ice cream cake which was delicious. 🙂

  6. Hi Jeanne… congrats on your latest auction. The dress is lovely. Some lucky winner is doing a happy dance I’m sure. Your guest room looks wonderful. I had a giggle about your showing a mattress topper comment. You must surely know by now we all enjoy whatever you write about. I’m so glad to see you got out with the “Girls”. Sounds like you had a fun time. Charlotte, I too call my girlfriends “girls”. It’s all relevant right?
House hunting continues! Our top contender sold last night… blah!

    Hugs

I’m so sorry to hear your preferred property was sold to someone else. That is very disappointing, I’m sure. I don’t like “back to square one”. My sister and her husband moved from Delaware to W. Virginia after he retired about a year ago. They rented an apartment while house hunting. They finally found their perfect house and property after much searching but the people could not move out until February because they were having a house built. Sis and hubby are renting the house back to them until then. Well now the completion date is May and my sister asked me and our other sister whether they should back out of the deal and start over. Considering what was available when they began looking, including a house with no utilities, we suggested they just keep on keeping on as they are until May. She sent this in September so I reminded her that next year at this time she will have been in a house she loves on a property that is exquisite for four months, and it sure seemed worth the wait to me and she is eleven years younger. But then I am a patient person, she is not. But she did heed our advice and I got a text the other day saying several more months in Clarksburg.

      1. Hi Barbara, Thank you and yesss it is so very disappointing. We were going to call a licensed home inspector today and start the process. I’ve been in a funk all day over the news. Oh well there is nothing we can do about it. Your poor sister… I feel for her. I too am very impatient. Backing out seems very financially imprudent, you gave her good advice. I’m sure she’ll be so happy once she’s finally moved in.

Sorry to hear you missed out on your favorite. Hopefully, another you like will come on the market soon. And sometimes, deals fall through. 🙂

I checked out your auction results last evening and congratulations are definitely in order! I told my hubby. Probably shouldn’t have because now I know he’s thinking I need to try my hand at that. I have several patterns I would not make for my girls for everyday wear but I would love to make them so selling them is an option. I like the auction idea because you may be leaving money on the table selling it for a set price.

Oh how I wish I could have been with you on your Ladies’ Day Out. I usually call us “girls” too but I’ll stick to your title. What amazing stores! I know I could not have come away empty handed. Sylvia’s pictures are wonderful. It sounds like you didn’t carpool because your numbers diminished over the course of the day. But you did have a good group to start with. Can’t wait to see the location of your next excursion.

I was looking at patterns yesterday and my fingers are getting itchy to begin sewing again. David is getting more independent by the day and actually spent most of his day at the shop yesterday, so I feel I may have some more time to myself in the upcoming days. He went down for a while Friday but Sean drove him down and back. Yesterday he walked and Jason walked with him. He came back by himself. He used his Rollator but around the house he uses the other walker. I feel like I’ve added tons of furniture to my house.

I’m beginning to prepare for my winter sports diorama but I have a confession to make on this one. I did not make most of what the dolly girls will be wearing. One of the reasons it has taken me so long to do this is because winter clothes are necessary and very few of my girls have them. I would have so many to make and I just don’t have the time. So I scoured Etsy yesterday and found what I was looking for. I’m calling my expenditures an early Christmas present to me. After all they are telling people to shop early.

Dear Jeanne, thanks for taking us along. It was fun to see all of the places you went. I keep thinking that one day the Sofa Sisters will meet. I don’t know how that would happen but I can dream.

And for the Sofa Sisters, I have a “hello” from Ed at Happily Ever After. I was in a Zoom doll club meeting with him yesterday. This doll club centers primarily on BJDs but any collector can join. It’s a UFDC club.

  9. Alina from Krakow, Poland

Great fun, such a girl’s going to the shops. Pre-Christmas atmosphere in the shop from the movie leprechauns and angels. Great sale on eBay Congratulations.

  10. Congratulations on your auction, it reminds me of years back watching the auctions for HDD(Heirloom Doll Designs) she would get very high bids, did a lot of sewing for Felicity and Elizabeth, used a lot of linen, silk and satin. I myself love sewing with cotton. It stays where you put it!
Also loved your Ladies Day Out I was in Red Hat for a number of years, it was such fun going out with the girls! The pandemic stopped that, glad gals feel they can go out and enjoy themselves again! Have a good day!

  11. I loved seeing the end of your auction! I just happened to check email about then so looked at it and WOWZA !
Those shopping days are always a good time….you didn’t tell us about the lunch….what did you have? Was it good? It is an important part of any Ladies Day Out🤗
Getting company this week so have to do some badly needed cleaning…in all those places that seem to have gotten ignored In the past while 🥴
    Have a good week everyone.
