This just might be my shortest post ever…

We were very busy today changing mattresses around so Rebecca and Karn could have our bedroom and their own bathroom. I had to finish some alterations she had asked me to do. Then there was last minute cleaning and we even found time to get the closet doors put up. I forgot to take a picture earlier when we finished and now their stuff is all in there…so I just went in there and snapped this quick picture.

Reuben was so excited to see Rebecca when she got here. He was barking uncontrollably and when she got inside, he was running around like a crazy dog…stopping every few seconds for her to pet him…

It might take a minute or so to load the videos depending on your internet speed. It’s best if it keeps buffering, to let it load fully then hit the arrow and watch it again, all in real time.

Then she went out to their truck to start bringing things in…and I guess Reuben thought she was leaving because this happened…make sure you have your volume turned up…

Tomorrow they will pick up the U-Haul truck and we will be gathering things up to get ready to pack it full. My hubby is pretty much an expert at packing moving trucks. He’s had LOTS of experience!!

Well, this will have to be it from me today…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Your closet doors look lovely, Jeanne!

What a joyful reunion!!! And then….POOR Reuben!! He about breaks your heart with his mournful cry. I assume he was happy once Rebecca got in the house again!!

Take care, Jeanne, and enjoy your time with your daughter and son-in-law!

The doors look just wonderful, Jeanne! They give the room a touch of brightness and a cheerful feeling! I’ve always loved light and bright bedrooms to wake up in.

Oh goodness, Reuben does quite a 360 degree turn in his happiness when seeing Rebecca once again, then thinking she is leaving is just too much! I guess that’s going to happen every time she comes home, so I guess you will be prepared for it. Today will be hard for him, so maybe he should get a special treat!

Joy, I am doing pretty good as far as my knee is healing. Little by little it’s getting there, and I can do more every day. Of course getting comfortable in bed is really hard, but I am coming along. Thank, you for asking!

Linda, you mentioned having trouble getting comfortable in bed after knee surgery. David has arthritis in his neck and sleeps in his recliner. Do you think this will be comfortable for him after he has his surgery?b Any suggestions?

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Barbara, yes, sleeping in a recliner would be better than a bed. It’s hardest when you,are laying on your side, and then turning over is painful too. But sleeping in a recliner would be the best, especially if he is used to sleeping in one.

        Hi, Barbara,
Well my total replacement was three years ago. I couldn’t stand being stuck in a recliner all day and night because I am antsy. Day in recliner, with my big foam wedge they gave me as well as the icing machine that was fabulous. At night, I had my wedge on my bed, and how I avoided painful getting in and out of bed, was I used my long PT strap and got it around my foot, holding an end of the strap in each hand, and pulled with my hands to lift the knee without hurting it, keeping the leg pretty straight. Made getting in and out of bed MUCH easier and more pleasant. The folks at the hospital were pretty impressed this old girl thought of that with her own little brain. I think you and I would call it Yankee ingenuity! 👍

Well good news that it is getting better. Has it been a week? Think you are doing great! We were just talking about knees here. Both of us are starting to feel it. 🙁

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Yes, Joy, it was a week today. My main problem is that my leg is swollen so it is hard to do exercises where you have to bend the knee. It is getting better, but I wish it would go faster! I’m so glad it is over with !

          Once again, late.

Jeanne, I think you and George have created a most charming oasis with your bedroom. While the Laura Ashley was lovely, it sounds like it wasn’t meant for your room. If you have another room where it will work, that’s terrific. I just so like everything about this room, and the closet doors are slick as can be. Boy howdy, woman!

My dogs cocked their ears when they heard little Reuben’s cries. So is he Rebecca’s dog or George’s? If Rebecca’s, are the kids living where pets are not allowed?

There have been a few remarks about giving up a master bedroom to guests. Got a smile out of it. We always gave up our bedroom if our parents stayed over for a visit…a sign of respect. Otherwise, guests, including married kids and their kids got guest rooms or sleeping bags on a living room floor. Interesting how we all see things differently. However, I hope this visit is going well, that they are grateful for your sacrifices not only for this visit, but for everything, and that while it will be sad to see them go knowing that it will be awhile, you WILL have more room. That is not a bad thing!

Linda, keep up the progress on that knee. It IS only one week. Do what you’re told to do and listen to your body. The only prize for pushing too hard too soon is a BAD prize. 😫

Could you paint the side tables in your bedroom to match the closet doors? Would that work?
I forgot to mention how nice the blue pillow looks with your new bedspread.

It must be lovely to see Rebecca and Karn again. Reuben certainly thinks so. It must be hard when his family lives in 2 states.

My sister had to give away their 5 month old puppy. They had very high standards for the adopting family but finally found a couple with a dog and a 6 year old daughter who is accustomed to dogs. It looks like a good match.

Linda’s right about the special treat. You’ll need one when you get Rebecca packed — I guess extra space is your reward. Now to think of something distracting for Reuben.

  4. Jeanne, how nice your bedroom looks. I absolutely love the lace border under your beautiful bedspread. I’ve been keeping up but haven’t had time to add my two cents lately. It’s been fun seeing the transformation. And the closet doors look great. The whole bedroom is warm and inviting. Just the right welcome to end your day peacefully.

It was nice to see Rebecca and Karn for their visit. Between all of you, it won’t take to much time to pack their boxes. Enjoy their visit.

Poor Reuben! It’s neat to see his excitement but I felt tearful as he cried for Rebecca. So sad. Glad he can be comforted by a loving family.

My husband and I tried to take our doggies as many places as we could. Their little faces of disappointment nearly killed us to see. I must add, we never stayed long when leaving them alone and once returned, their joy was a sight to see… like Reuben.

Enjoy your time with Rebecca and Karn!

What great videos! Thanks for sharing the excitement with us.

Glad to closet doors got up and the room redecorated in time for your special guests.

Well, I knew Reuben would be happy to see Rebecca, but looks like he was over the top with gaiety. I’m wondering if before she leaves, you might be able to pick up a new stuffed toy and have Rebecca play with it a bit then hide it until after she leaves. Her scent may help to calm him. Just thinking. 🙂
Oh yes, the white doors really look nice and actually expand the room visually. Surprised that you are giving up your new room. Did you switch out the bedspread? Maybe that was on Rebecca’s bed? Curious. 🙂
Hoping to finish up Eira’s (RRFF) top today and then I can get everyone ready for a photo. I’m sure the dollies will be happy for me to finally be finished. Then, I guess I had better get started on holiday fashions especially now that we have Jennifer the Xmas girl arriving sometime in December hopefully.
Flu shots went well. We got the one for those 65plus this year. First time they have had those available without going to your doctor. Maybe they just had a lot that they wanted to use up. I don’t know. 🙂

    1. Susette from Southern California

I always have guests use the master bedroom as it has an en suite bathroom. No walking down the hall. Walgreens had the higher dose here last year without a prescription. It’ll be a Merry Christmas for sure at your house. 🎄

      1. Li Doyle in St. Louis

We also had the high dose flu shots for 65+ the last few years I have gotten them without a prescription. Our church partners with Walgreen’s and they administer the shots. I’ve signed up for mine this year too, for the high dose shots.

Lockdown does have a side effect! It effectively stops the cold and flu germs being passed on as well as stopping Covid lol. Still, we are just leaving cold and flu season behind and looking forward to warmer weather

  7. Joy’s idea about a toy for Reuben is super, or perhaps Rebecca could leave one of her shirts for him to sleep on.
Your closet doors look very nice, Jeanne.
Love the first video. Our dogs greeted us the same way upon arriving home, even if we had only been gone a short while. They came along whenever possible though.
Poor Reuben in the second video. I felt so sad for him. Enjoy your family time!

Your new bedroom is so cozy looking. And I love your bi-fold doors. It seems when we have guests I’m always giving up my bedroom. We have a sleep number king size bed and since David sleeps in his recliner it only makes sense. I have a queen size blow-up mattress in my guest room. I got the idea once from a staging on HGTV. The room is rarely used and getting a mattress set seemed like a waste of money. I saw in the reviews on the one I got that a lot of people go that way normally. I sleep in there when we have guests. But last winter when Sean and family came here during the storm the grandkids got the guest room and I slept in my recliner, which was no problem since that’s where I had been sleeping for weeks after David’s heart surgery so I could be close at hand.

I loved seeing Reuben’s joy at seeing Rebecca again, but it was so sad to hear his mournful cry when he thought she was leaving. Unfortunately you can’t explain to animals what is going on and only time and repetition can make them understand. A lot like small children when you have to leave them with someone no matter how well they know the people.

Fortunately when we got Chelsy all the kids were gone and it was just David and I. Chelsy likes very much being an only dog and really does not like her space being invaded by anyone. That includes the grandkids. She tolerates them but I can hear her breathe a sigh of relief when they leave and things get back to normal. When my stepson Jason stayed with us a few days he had his Weimaraner with him. She drank Chelsy’s water and ate her food. Chelsy was not happy about sharing especially with a glutton. If there was food in the bowl Nomi ate it. You can put food in Chelsy’s dish and it lasts for days. She’s never been a big eater so it was very stressful for her to go to eat and find her bowl empty and she knew she didn’t eat it. We made sure she had what she needed but all three of us were glad when they left.

I’ve finally been hitting the sewing machine. So far in the past less than two weeks I’ve made two outfits for Siblie Sydney, a cute dress for Maru Mini Savannah and a romper for Boneka Mary-Ellen. I will be starting a romper for Boneka Charlotte today. I just remembered the other day that I have a Maya coming sometime in the next few weeks. I haven’t received the final invoice yet but it should be soon. I’m really running out of room.

    1. Joy in northern CA

So hope you can get some pictures of your work for us to see. We don’t have Maya here, but would love to have her. Sounds like Chelsey’s food/water need a puppy pen when Nomi visits. 🙂 Poor girl.

I should have videoed Louis when I watched the video of Rueben howling, he joined in to keep Rueben company lol

  10. Anne Coldron in New Zealand

Your closet doors look great and I loved the video of Rueben greeting Rebecca, Sam took one of Louis when I returned from my holiday in 2019 after 4 months. Poor Rueben he was so unhappy when he thought they were leaving again.
I had to go to a Trust board meeting for Delta on Monday night and about half an hour before it finished I had a text from my neighbour to say he hadn’t stopped barking since I left. This was very unusual but subsequent texts made it clear he was outside! He must have snuck out when I was leaving and I didn’t realise! He wasn’t happy but of course was overjoyed to see me when I got home.

I have almost finished the little smocked dress I was doing. Just have to do the buttons and button holes. Will send a photo. I think the smocking needs some practice.

Auckland has gone down to level 3 this morning so they will be able to get their lattes and fast food, takeaway only though. They can also buy stuff but only on click and collect. We stayed at level 2 but can now have 100 people at a function instead of 50 but we still have to wear masks so I have a feeling that our patchwork meeting will be postponed again unless we go to level 1 next week.

  11. Hi Jeanne,
Your bedroom looks FABULOUS!!! The closet doors turned out great. No one would ever guess just by looking they gave you and George such a headache. Reuben certainly gave Rebecca a wonderful welcome. So cute and what a soulfully sad howl when he thought she was gone, poor little pup. I kind of giggled at his expense don’t tell him ok ; )
Enjoy your time with the newlyweds.

    hugs
    Ingrid

Jeanne, It is so hard for me to watch Reuben crying like that because it breaks my heart to see him react to his sister leaving like that. It is not funny at all how animals behave when they are sad and hurting inside. I really have a soft spot for them, especially dogs. Poor Reuben, he doesn’t understand, but it seems like he really does somehow. They know. I almost started to cry myself hearing him like this. Poor baby boy! I wish I could hold me and tell him it is okay.
