I used to sew doll dresses like that…

I received a couple of pictures from Joy today and they almost took my breath away… She had her 14″ Ruby Red Fashion Friends lined up on the deck and they were dressed up for the wedding. Anaelle was the bridesmaid and they were all guests… (Coordinating guests, I might add!) Look at the sweet outfits on all the dolls!

Joy did an outstanding job on them and as I zoomed in on them all, I was a bit melancholy thinking about how long it’s been since I had made anything. Well, I have been a bit distracted by a wedding, a new bedroom remodeled, and a few other projects in between, but still, I was thinking about sewing for the first time in a LONG time today…

The only trouble is… LOOK AT MY SEWING ROOM! It’s a mess and needs to be straightened up before I do anything…or it will drive me crazy… I’m going to show you the good, the bad and the ugly… everything is out of place. There are still lots of snippets of the wedding in there, some from decorating my bedroom and some from Rebecca digging through stuff looking for things that were hers… along with any alterations I still had “to do” of hers…

I will work on it this weekend and maybe Monday it will be a different room! Let’s hope so!

See you then,
Have a wonderful weekend!
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Joy, thanks for sharing your pictures! I did see the first one on FB earlier tonight; nice to see the other one, too, and get a good look at your dolls. Looks like Luca is still pining for someone, though!! 😉

Jeanne, actually if My sewing room were that “messy”, I’d think I was in the wrong house!! 🤣 I’m one of those people who has to have lots of “stuff” around me in order to be creative, and sometimes I just have to Make myself clear a section just to be able to get around a little in there!! Right now my ironing is way backed up, so I am going to Have to do something about that soon!!

One more update on the swap: although pictures have been taken, our “big reveal” (on our Little Darlings ning group) isn’t until Oct. 1, so I’m afraid you gals will have to be patient for a few more days! I had forgotten about that, and then tonight I saw a message having to do with it. Good thing, as it went completely out of my brain! My swap recipient emailed me today–she had just gotten her package and was pretty happy with it, so I’m glad for that!

Jeanne, I have no doubt that you will be back to sewing soon. You’ve just had a lot on your plate lately! I know how it is when *I* get busy with other things here; it just feels like years instead of days or weeks since I last sewed, and I get antsy!! Hang in there!

  2. Joy, Your dolls are great, Anabelle looks so proud to be the flower girl and certainly the rest look ready to party!!!!!
Jeanne your room doesn’t look that bad, you will have that back ship shape in a few minutes.
It is hard not to get a lot of things out of place when working on a project. I try before I start a new dress to put away all I had out for the last one.
Hope the sun is shining in your corner of the world!

Think back to before you redecorated and organized the sewing room so you won’t call this a mess. As Marilyn said, it’s probably straightened already.

Joy, that’s an amazing collection you’ve created! Wow! All those tiny dresses that are so colorful and of different patterns. You’re another very accomplished seamstress among Jeanne’s followers. Thanks for the great pictures.

You’re doing great, Linda. Keep up the good work but remember the rest of your body as well as your knee needs to recover following surgery.

Joy, what a darling lineup of dolls! That’s amazing that you actually made all of the dresses, except, of course Anaellle’s. You certainly do a wonderful job sewing such tiny dolls clothes! I bet that is something dressing all those dolls for a picture! Now you need to make a bride dress!

Jeanne, I think the same as you when it comes to having things cleaned up and orderly in order to make something. I simply can’t think if things are out of place! Your sewing room isn’t actually THAT bad! I think you will be able to fix things in there this weekend, if you put your mind to it and don’t have any distractions. Just start at one end of the room and go on. That way you will actually see improvement while you are working, and it will give you incentive to keep going.

I am slowly getting better, with emphasis on the word, slowly!

If my sewing “area” looked even half as nice as yours it would have a wow! I’m like Charlotte. Must be able to see everything. 🙂 Thanks for showing my pics today. Didn’t think I’d ever get everyone dressed and find shoes that matched. To get down to the lower deck staging area, I stack my kids in flat boxes or lids so that I can carry four or five at a time. Poor things. Saves trips on the steps though.
Definitely looking forward to seeing what Jeanne might sew next. Like Linda mentioned, maybe a bridal dress? The RRFF kids would love one. Maybe skip right to the winter holidays though because, I’ve been seeing lots of cute things already.
Whatever Jeanne does, I’m sure we will be amazed. Maybe it is floor finishing? or a well deserved break?

Joy, what a lovely wedding photo shoot. The girls all look so nice in their cute attire and Luca’s outfit is really cool. When you were saying what all you had left to do, I had no idea you were making so many outfits. Great job!

By my standards (necessary) your sewing room is just fine, Jeanne. I have so little place to go with anything in mine and we’ve maximized the space as much as we can, but it will always look cluttered I fear. And now that I’ve been sewing a lot lately almost all my trim boxes are stacked on the floor so I can get to things and put things back without having to use my step stool all the time.

I will finish up Boneka Charlotte’s romper this morning and next week I will gather up some of the girls who are wearing new back-to-school and we’ll have a classroom photo shoot. The RRFFs and I have also picked out some fabric and patterns for new outfits for them. After I complete the next round of sewing projects I’ll do some much needed tidying up in my sewing room. Until then I will just consider it all creative clutter.

Yes, creative clutter. I’ll tell that to other person when he’s rolling his eyes. 🙂 And can’t wait to see your back to school photo shoot.

    Good morning!

When I bought Anaelle, I thought of creating a bridal party too. I would include all of my dolls, as I only have 3 Ruby Red Fashion Friends.

How many Ruby Red Fashion Friends do you have Joy? They look amazing.

Jeanne – I’m sure you’ll get your sewing room back in tip-top shape in no time!

Enjoy this beautiful fall weather all!!

    1. Joy in northern CA

Hope you do create a bridal party. Would be so fun to see. I think there are nine right now, but a few more on order arriving in the months to come. 🙂

  7. Marilyn from Colorado

Jeanne and George don’t take breaks, they only fix breaks.

Joy’s dolls are wonderful, and every one has a suitable pair of shoes, which must have been a whole separate effort. Congratulations on a lot of work completed very successfully for a very cute collection.

Jeanne, for you, after all your projects, that sewing room is a piece of cake. Right under the clutter is the sewing room you completely re-designed and reorganized a short time ago, and all that work still shows. I’ll bet you have half the clutter put away already, and since it contains lots of good memories, you re even enjoying the project.

  8. Sally from Colorado

    Dear Jeanne,

When I read your statement that your sewing room was a mess and saw the photos, I remember previous Jeanne messes and this looks like near perfection to me. You’ll have it back before you know it and will be making your machines hum once again.

Charlotte, looking forward to swap pictures. Always a treat to see what all you ladies sew.

Joy, those RRFFs look so spiffy and so thrilled to have their new duds. There are so many delightful little details that you added to make these really, really special. I have to say, I am very, very impressed. I am sure those kids are behaving extremely well at the wedding so they don’t embarrass their buddy Anaelle. Thank you so much for doing the stairs to line these cuties up to show off. Wow! Great pics and amazing outfits! Jeanne, thanks for sharing Joy’s pics.

I spent an hour this morning trying to make the Labor Day sale wigs I purchased for my RRFFs after writing the shop owner about what a horribly difficult time I was having getting these on my Rebecca. The shop owner kindly made a video that she forwarded; I watched and listened to it about a dozen times. Three wigs I could make work. Three I absolutely cannot. This old girl has learned that she shouldn’t be buying wigs these days if her fingers and hands can’t manage them. A day of reckoning, I guess.

Linda, you are 2.5 weeks out from surgery? Since this is your second go around, you know knee recovery takes time. Glad you’re seeing progress, and be patient with yourself. Way to go! 👏 You’re awesome!

    Happy weekend everyone!

    Sally

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Oh no Sally! Only a week and half since surgery. I am feeling more like myself everyday now, but still use a walker, Who wants to fall and mess up their progress?

    2. Joy in northern CA

Thanks so much for the kind comments. Wigs have always been a problem for me. But, once they are on, they don’t move from doll to doll much. 🙂

  9. Kathie from Omaha

    Oops ..post evaporated again….
Joy your talent for putting colors and styles and prints together shows in those awesome pictures! The FF are a fun size to sew for and the pictures are stunning.
Jeanne the last of the flooring shouldn’t take you two very long…you have to be certified flooring professionals by now☺️ At least you have a nice new relaxing bedroom to collapse into after a day of laying flooring. Your sewing room will be back into your organized area soon. Me?…I like Barbara’s term of CREATIVE CLUTTER 😉 That describes me for sure.

  10. Your RRFF look beautiful, Joy.. They are dressed wonderfully and Luca is so lucky to have so many lovely girls. Thanks for sharing them.

As Sally said, Jeanne, I think you sewing room has been is a much great state of disarray. I’m sure you will get in back in shape to your liking soon.
I see Josefina happily standing there on the table. i’m sure she doesn’t mind wearing that pretty skirt and camisa a while longer.
