Hallways and Hairstyles and Here comes the bride…

HI everyone,
Time is ticking away quicker than I’d like… and there are more things on my plate than I “think” I can get to… but somehow, they ARE getting done. Rebecca runs a pretty tight ship and has a notebook full of ideas and directions and recipes and drawings and LISTS… YES… Lists are the big thing at our house right now… this time 3 days from now, my baby will be married… I’ve had a few crying episodes today… realizing this was going to be our last full day with her all to ourselves… Karn is coming in Friday afternoon/evening and then her attention will (I’m assuming…shift) to him. So I’m cherishing every moment I have with her… last night she wanted to go to a few places, so we drove off with nothing really in mind to get, but we ended up at the Goodwill, Home Goods, Hobby Lobby and Lowes. It was nice shopping with her one last time!

I only have snippets of what we’ve been doing but I thought I’d share them with you… I hope I haven’t shared any of these before…my mind is a bit hazy… so please just skim over the pics if I’ve already shown them…

In no particular order…

We FINISHED the hallway and it’s glorious! All white and shiny and looking wonderful “for the wedding!” :o) Not that anyone will notice!

We do plan to paint the ceiling and put down the flooring like we have been using, but that’s scheduled for later on…

I found these cute sandals for the wedding… since my dress is almost the same color, I thought they might look cute with it…

My hubby was pretty proud of this tomato… he asked me, “When was the last time you saw a tomato like this at a restaurant?” :o) I had to show it!

All of the tablecloths are fringed and stacked up ready to put on the tables…there were LOTS of strings to pull out!

The favor bags have been put together and a sign has been made for them…

She found a galvanized bucket at Hobby Lobby and wanted to use it for water bottles… we lined it with a trash can and then fringed burlap… and will put a few cooler packs in the bottom. We’ll chill the bottles before putting them in the bucket.

We worked on little signs for the food table… there will be lots more food than this but we didn’t think we needed signs for everything… most people know what fruit is, and what’s on veggie skewers… :o)

We assembled the flowers ahead of time that will be used with her swag at the ceremony… I’ll have to take a picture of it when it’s all put together, but this saved lots of time by making little flower groupings for it…

We wrapped her swag fabric around a board and hung it from a ladder rung to a shelf in the pantry… just so we could get an idea of how it was going to drape…

After we listed all the food items, we found plates and dishes for them and taped a slip of paper to that item. Spinach dip in crock pot, tea cakes on glass platter, etc.

This afternoon we played around with her hair… trying to decide how she’s going to wear it… Karn’s mom is bringing 2 sets of electric hot rollers so it will hopefully hold some curl…if it’s not too humid.

There is so much more we’ve done, but she has lots of things already packed up and ready for “transport” so I’ll have to take more pictures when it gets set up for the reception and the ceremony…

Several of you hinted that I should take Saturday off… Well, I AM going to… and also Monday and probably Tuesday… It’s my and my hubby’s 40th Anniversary the same day as the wedding and I’m hoping we can do something a day or so after the big event…

But I’m going to try and leave something for you all to chat about on those days…

See you… probably Wednesday!
Blessings to all of you!
Jeanne

Woohoo! Your hallway is Gorgeous!! So worth the time, and it makes the rest of the house look “finished”–even though you may still have the odd project or three here and there.

Your new sandals are Perfect to go with your dress!! Perfect. And some bling, too!! One word of advice: also bring along a really super comfy pair of shoes, just in case. It may be these will be fine for the entire time, but believe me, there are times when it’s nice to have a change of shoes along! Keep them in the car (or wherever), and if you develop a blister or something (heaven forbid!), you will have a change.

You tell George that could well be the best-looking tomato I’ve ever seen! It’s so “meaty”!! My mouth is watering….

The tablecloths, swags, flowers, etc. are all lovely. What all did you put in the favor bags? I see pistachios (yum!) but not sure what else. What a great idea!! Ditto the tub for the bottled water, and labeling dishes ahead of time for what goes where! Very smart.

Rebecca’s hair is so beautiful! I know how ever you end up styling it, it’ll be wonderful. Hope you remember to take a picture of the back of it before the wedding. Will she be wearing a veil over it? Not all brides do, these days, so I wondered.

Good for you, taking some time off. You will need it, both you And George will need to have some time together, just the two of you. Happy anniversary!! We are 7 years ahead of you.

And, best wishes to Rebecca and Karn, for many happy years together.

    1. Hi Charlotte, I did tell my hubby what you said about his tomato…he just smiled!!!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Oh how clean, fresh and new your hallway looks now, Jeanne, congrats on a well done job!

Those tomatoes are the best looking ones I have seen this season, and I can almost taste them from here! What a treasure that garden is for you! (And the gardener too!)

What kind of material is that you are using for the tablecloths?
They look wonderful and the soft tones bring out the vibrancy of the flowers. Very fall like!

It’s wonderful to see that Rebecca is making her wedding her own, and not a copycat of others. I can’t believe how beautiful her hair is, and I am thinking she will have flowers in her hair or a pretty hair clip? I don’t “see” a veil, but I just have a hunch there won’t be any.

And good for you to take a couple of days off! You and George have much to celebrate and to be thankful for. A new stage in your life is now starting, and you will be back where you started from, just the two of you! Enjoy!

Much love and prayers for a beautiful day Sunday, and a long and happy marriage for
    Rebecca and Karn!

    1. Hi Linda,
I’m sure Jeanne will verify what the tablecloths are made of, but I’m guessing it’s Crafting Burlap”. I’ve bought some of it in the past for a fall party. It’s very soft and drapes, unlike what you this of as burlap bags. It’s wonderful for a country/ homespun feel.

    2. Hi Linda,
The tablecloth fabrics are a linen and poly blend…they don’t wrinkle too much and fringed very nicely.
I saw on my phone (informed mail) that you sent Rebecca and Karn a card…apparently the Post Office decided to start forwarding her mail to PA early. She had told the PO to start it on Monday…but she didn’t get it yesterday when it showed it was supposed to arrive here.
I’m sure it went to PA…
      Thank you.
      Blessings, Jeanne

How you managed to sneak in the hallway painting, I’ll never know. But, it looks great now. When the ceiling and floor are complete, wahoo! After the wedding rush dies down, you and George can prioritize the final fixes to the house. Might help keep your mind steady after Rebecca’s big move.
The preparations you have made look lovely. Rebecca’s hair is so pretty. Love the natural look. This is so exciting! Hope you don’t make us all wait until Wednesday to see a quick pic of Rebecca & Karn. No need to write anything, but a picture makes a 1000 words. 🙂
What creative wedding accessories you’ve put together so quickly. It’s going to be a lovely affair. Have a wonderful time and congrats in advance to Rebecca & Karn. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
I’ll see if she’ll let me send out a picture…she’s a bit private about all this and I’m hoping she’ll cave for a few shots…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, just tell her all her “blog aunties” want to see!! (Well, if we are your sofa sisters, we must be her aunties! 😁)

  4. Jeanne, you and Rebecca have done an outstanding job on being prepared and organized! And every thing you’ve showed us is absolutely beautiful, clever and perfect for Rebecca’s wedding!! I’m so happy for all of you and especially the bride and groom.

I’m sure everything planned will go accordingly and smoothly. May God bless this wonderful young couple!!
I admire what you, your hubby and family having shared with us over the years, the wonderful renovations of your lovely home. The hallway entrance looks great!

Enjoy these next few days with your sweet daughter and family. The wedding plans and special items made for it will be absolutely beautiful! It will certainly be a memorable occasion!
    Blessing!

    1. Hi Paula,
I guess all these things have to be done whether there are 20 or 200 people attending…

I am trying to enjoy these last 2 days with her…I can’t imagine them driving off, but I better get prepared…it’s gonna happen!
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    Hello sisters,
My apologies for not getting to the blog yesterday. Today I am going to find time here and there to make replies to you, so if you care to read them, they should be available this evening. Thank you all.
Melody, that is one sweet little Lotte. Clearly that ribbon is very old and perhaps all that she was dressed with when she was made? Being a sentimental person myself, I hope there is some way you can incorporate that ribbon with what ever you decide to do with her. Her eyes and expression are priceless. Than you for sharing, and good luck with the arms; I hope reinserting them will not be too challenging.
Jeanne! Thank you ever so much for some glimpses into your life of this past week. We knew you were swamped, but, wow! Look at that hall! Mega difference and bravo. Once the floor and ceiling are done, you will have another enormous task checked off your to-do list. Truly, this makes an astounding difference. Gold stars galore.
Then, looking at the flowers and drapes, tablecloths, serving dishes and little signs….it all just increases our excitement for all of you. This is, indeed, a wedding planned from the heart and “home grown” like George’s fabulous tomato. Yikes! Yum!
Your daughter’s hair is something else. Thank you for showing us these pics, and we do, really, really, REALLY need to see lots of pics for DAYS once you get back to the blog. We all are thrilled you and George are taking some days off.
Before I forget, those shoes complement your dress very well, and at least you will be able to wiggle your “piggies l! Hooray for that.
Have a glorious celebration and at this point, don’t “sweat” the details. Its going to be lovely and over before you know it. Put those tired feet up, and when you start feeling weepy, put on a smile and be happy for Rebecca. You and George have been the best parents. Pat yourselves on the back (and cry and laugh)!
    Happy anniversary and happy wedding.
Sending much love to you and hugs all around,
    Sally

    1. Hi Sally,
I went back and read your reply to me yesterday. Arianna is very sweet. How nice she has a rag doll.
Yes, Requiem is settling in nicely. I have to think what she could be playing next… perhaps some hymns or Beethhoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” or Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” might be must appropriate in her ballerina gown.
I do try to listen to classical music before bed. It’s relaxing to me and lulls the kitties off to dreamland as well.
How very sad the farm burned down., but how wonderful there is a B&B in it’s place. I’ve not been to Vermont, but I have been to Maryland and New Jersey (Cape May). I know Tasha Tudor’s house is in Vermont. Perhaps you’ve been there?

      Hugs back to you,

      Laura

      1. Sally from Colorado

        Hi, Laura,
Thanks for taking the time to go back a day. I am sure Requiem will be expanding her repertoire. We have classical stations on all day until the TV comes on at night, which isn’t for long, and then I’m back to classical until bedtime. The dogs love it, too. They told me so!
No, I have never been to the Tasha Tudor house. I bet it’s a treat; I admire her living the life she wanted and did it with such style.
So good chatting with you. My girls say hello to yours. 🥰
        Hugs,
        Sally

    2. Hi Sally,
I wanted to let you know, Melidy has not been able to get onto my blog the last week or so…it keeps saying her comments aren’t able to be submitted. I tried something today, hoping it will help her, but I don’t think she can respond to anyone who commented on her doll… :o(

We’re going to play beauty shop again tomorrow to settle on something… she does have gorgeous hair!!

Just between you and me, I hope I share more laughs than tears…
      Thanks Sally,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Barbara in SE Texas

Your hallway looks spectacular. So clean looking. And George’s tomato looks really yummy. It is so meaty and looks really juicy. I wish I was more into gardening. Home grown tomatoes are the best. Sadly, my gardener left when Sean did. He and Dionne grow a lot of things and enjoy it. Me not so much.

What a lovely wedding Rebecca is going to have and it’s so nice you have played such a large role in making that happen by doing a lot of things yourselves. I can’t wait to see pictures of the wonderful event. I wish Rebecca and Karn the best and many long happy years ahead of them.

And congratulations on your 40th. Once the festivities are over and things calm down you two can celebrate all the successes in your life together – and they are many. I forgot Rebecca was getting married on your anniversary. Andrea and Jamey were married on David’s parent’s anniversary and Sean and Dionne married on my grandfathers birthday. That was a special date for me because my grandfather was the best and when I remember their anniversary I remember him also.

I love your choice of shoes. They do go really well with your dress.

I know it’s sad that you and George will truly be empty nesters now, but you have so many interests that fill your time that it will become your “new normal” fairly quickly. I’m not fond of that expression but it truly fits the situation. After Sean left for college and the house seemed empty David bought me my Build-a-Bear Bunny, Felicity, to help with my empty nest syndrome. Felicity was 17 years old this past May, Sean’s old bedroom is now my study and Andi’s room is the guest room. Life does evolve.

Rebecca has such beautiful hair and I think she’s going to look lovely just keeping her hair simple.

Take care and all of you have a wonderful wedding experience. Can’t believe the time is here already.

    1. Hi Barbara,
I’m glad Rebecca decided to do a small wedding…I can’t imagine how you do a big wedding…I think thats when you hire a wedding coordinator!!! :o)

My hubby knows I’m a bit weepy…(ok…a LOT weepy) so he will probably have us start on the rest of the flooring or finish up the hallway, just to keep my mind occupied!!!

      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Your hallway looks wonderful. So fresh and crisp and open now.
The sandals are lovely with their extra bit of bling and are perfect for a wedding. they go very nicely with your dress.
Fantastic tomato, George. My grandparents were always proud of the tomatoes and other veggies they grew in their garden.
Love all of Rebecca’s wedding decor. It has such a sweet homespun feel. Rebecca’s hair is just amazing. Redheads always have such thick lovely hair.
Happy 40th Anniversary to you and George, Jeanne.God’s blessings to Rebecca and Karn as they start there lives together.. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the happy couple and all the wedding photos.

    1. Hi Laura,
Every time we do a project, we always wonder why we waited so long…and this hallway project was certainly one of those moments!!!

Thanks for your blessings over everything going on the next few days…I can’t believe it’s happening… well, I can, but part of me wants to ignore it…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Kathie from Omaha

Things in your house just look fantastic! Weddings always make us tidy up and make things “get finished” The hallway is excellent…it looks like it was always that way☺️. George’s tomatoes look so yummy. We have had a wonderful crop this year too….I even wrote the company and sent them pictures…they were so perfect and tasted soooo good!
All of the little glimpses of decoration make wonderful detail. Rebecca has such good taste and fun ideas! It will be such a pretty wedding. Good choice of shoes…hopefully your feet will be happy.
Oh my Rebecca’s hair is going to be awesome. It is so thick and shiny and she is such a pretty girl who will be a lovely bride. Enjoy every minute…it always goes by so fast🤗

    1. Thanks Kathie,
Nothing like a wedding to get things in tip top shape…except there are BOXES AND TUBS EVERYWHERE!!! :o)

I think she’s going to be a beautiful bride too…hope she doesn’t “cry” all her makeup off…

      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, sorry I have been missing the past two days. I have been working on some projects.

I am so excited for the wedding! I am happy that you are taking some time off. You deserve it. Go and celebrate!!!

We will be cheering for you here on the sofa.

    1. Hi Dorothy
I bet you HAVE been busy lately…
Thanks for your cheers from the sofa!!!

  10. Debbie in Tennessee

Jeanne, your photos of the preparations are a feast for the eyes. All the details are coming together beautifully, right down to the color of your sandals – they are a perfect compliment to your dress. I can’t wait to see photos of Rebecca’s vision for her wedding. Her hair is gorgeous, I don’t think any style could make it less so. She will be a beautiful bride, tomorrow!

    Happy Wedding, Happy Anniversary!

    1. Thank you Debbie!
I hope we get everything done just like she envisioned too…
I think she’s ready for it all to be over…and just be married!!! :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Anne Coldron in New Zealand

I think you have made a wise decision to take time off from the blog. Looking forward to seeing all the pictures when you get back.

George’s tomato is wonderful. I try to grow a bit of food but I am not very good at it. My Dad wasn’t much of a gardener either but he loved a really nice garden. I tried to do my best for him and make the garden as weed free as possible but for me it was work (hard work) and not particularly enjoyable. He was very much a minimalist in the house and wasn’t particularly impressed with my hobbies that tend to be messy and not always ‘useful’. One day he said to me “why don’t you make gardening your hobby?”. I tried to explain that it doesn’t work like that!

Sally, I am pleased that you have ordered the book, for a Philosopher he writes very well and interestingly! It may help counteract some of the negativity you feel. He is pretty scathing about “The News”.

On the subject of Autumn people come here (when there is no Covid) to see the colour changes in Arrowtown just outside Queenstown. However in most places, especially in the native bush there is no change. All NZ native fauna is evergreen. Any deciduous trees are exotic, planted by the early settlers mostly. We have quite a few that lose their leaves in Autumn in Christchurch but in public places now the policy is to replace exotic with natives if the exotic dies. Personally I think the worst is Cordyline which we call Cabbage trees. The leaves are incredibly strong and don’t rot down so can’t be used in compost, they have to go into the red bin (which goes to the dump). It takes a long time for the dead leaves to actually leave the tree so they have all these dead, brown leaves hanging off them. I have one in the front of my house which takes a lot of time to look after or it looks incredibly untidy.

Jeanne, I hope you have a great time at the wedding and you and George have a wonderful Anniversary. See you Thursday (for me).

    1. Hi Anne
I almost had to take some time off…or else go a little crazy…I do have something scheduled for everyone Saturday, Monday and Tuesday!! :o)

I got a chuckle out of your dad’s comments about taking up gardening as “your new” hobby!!

      Thanks so much Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Susette from Southern California

Everything has come together beautifully. I can’t get over finding the perfect sandals to go with your dress. You could have looked forever and not found those if you’d had them in mind.

Rebecca’s hair is beyond beautiful ! What a beautiful bride she will be. I’m sure Karn is as handsome as she is beautiful. Having it at 5 pm will give you plenty of time to get things set up with your lovely collection of glass. Really sets off the tea cakes.

Have a wonderful time, both at the wedding celebration and celebrating your anniversary. What a coincidence! Thanks for keeping us posted and letting us follow along with all the preparations. ❤️

    1. Hi Susette,
Don’t tell anyone, but I found those sandals at the Goodwill for 75% off…they were $1.00

      Oops…my company is here…
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Hi again Susette,
My company has left and gone back to the hotel…more will be coming in tomorrow and then the rest on Sunday right before the wedding.

Actually there is a bit of a time crunch as the lodge won’t be finished cleaning until around 2:30 or so…that’s too soon to putvout the good so AS SOON AS THE WEDDING IS OVER, my sisters and I are skedaddling
Over to the lodge to get all the food set out in their respective dishes.. after that is done I can breathe!!
        Thanks Susette,
        Blessings, Jeanne

  13. Marilyn from Colorado

I’m laughing about your beautiful sandals. It’s ok, we won’t tell anyone. I am so glad you agreed to take a few richly deserved days off.

I can imagine Rebecca warning Karn about your camera — “She only wants to share the experience with several hundred friends.”

Have a great wedding and a lovely anniversary. You deserve them.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
My company left so I finished Susettes comments and now you…
I’m really hoping Rebecca will let me share more than just the food table or the swag where the ceremony is taking place or the back of the golf cart with their just married sign is tied on.

There is some talk of live streaming the wedding but I’m not exactly sure how that works or who can see it…
She has a close friend in Texas who just had a baby and she desperately wants to see it…

Thanks so much…I plan on 2 pieces of cake…one for the wedding and one for our anniversary!! :o)

      Thank you,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  14. Susette from Southern California
