Today I’ll show you an Indian Wedding…

Still too busy to do any sewing, but that’s not the only problem… a twin bed is in my sewing room, while Karn is here this week, helping Rebecca make some final arrangements on their wedding…My sewing room has been invaded and I can barely move in there because the bed is in front of my cutting table and fabric. BUT Joy sent me a couple of pictures of DOLLS!!! Her dolls, Hannah and Luca showing off their new school clothes she made them, so let’s get a little dolly fix right off the bat.

This is what Joy said,
“Luca and Hanna are all ready for school even though it doesn’t start until Thursday. Hanna likes the bow, but I think it should be smaller. This is the overall/romper I made. Nothing like your great one. Did you ever figure out how to put the pattern in your Etsy shop? Maybe you’ve been just a but busy with other things. 🙂

If you click on the pictures, they will enlarge!

This was a pic I sent awhile back of Luca when he gathered fruit to give to Stella and her monkey. Ha ha. He often talks about her so I think he’s still smitten.”

I don’t see why Luca is so smitten with Stella when he has a complete harem of girls there surrounding him! Silly boy! :o)

Susette sent me some pictures of her son’s and daughter-in-law’s wedding…this is what she emailed me…

“David has a red ink spot on his forehead. It was done as part of the ceremony but I don’t know why or what it meant. They are each wearing what I would call a Hawaiian lei.”

“If I remember correctly there was a washing of feet involved in the ceremony. Believe me, that never happened again! You can see her sister-in-law laughing. They all were. That’s the interpreter sitting on the floor. It was certainly a nice touch.”

“Not the wisest choice of a dress as we were required to “sit” on the floor as part of the ceremony. Try getting up while wearing this!”

“Rakhi’s mother and father.”

Such pretty colors and I just love fabrics from India… when we have International Day at church and the students dress up in their native costumes, I always LOVE the Indian costumes the most! They are always gorgeous!

Tomorrow we’ll see a wedding from Poland… bet you can’t guess who that is from! :o)

Blessings, Jeanne

What a nice assortment of pictures to look at tonight!!

Joy, I think Hanna is trying to make a fashion statement with her bow. It does look very cute on her! And Luca looks like he still has the dreamy look in his eyes, so, yes, I think he’s still smitten with Stella!!

Susette, thank you for sharing the pictures of your son’s wedding. I do love the fabrics used, and the beautiful floral leis (or whatever they may be called). Susette, your gown is gorgeous and elegant (and you are lovely in it), but I can understand why it may not have been the best choice if you were going to have to sit on the floor!! I am guessing that nobody told you that was part of the deal!!

I am scheduled for a CT scan of my abdomen on Wed. One of my blood tests last week was way off-kilter, and my doctor wants to know why. So…. I have to say, I am Not looking forward to it, at least not the drinking of the contrast part!! But it will be good if they can figure out what is going on.

Looking forward to the next wedding pictures!

Thank goodness you are scheduled for a CT. You’ve had this for far too long. I suffered for seven years with recurring appendicitis decades ago because I didn’t run a high white count. RLQ pain should have been enough of a clue. I was lucky it hadn’t burst. Found out later that 15% of cases present that way. I know you’ll keep us posted. Prayers for you.

Dear Charlotte, your namesake Charlotte Noelle is sending her biggest hugs.

Please take good care of yourself.

  2. Linda in St. Louis

Joy, those are the cutest little outfits ever! They certainly look like what children wear today! You did a wonderful job on them, and that bow!!! I think Hannah wants to be the teachers pet and stand out from the rest! So cute!

Well, Susette, your son certainly got himself into quite a production there! I am wondering how many men would want to go through all that, knowing in advance what was coming! They certainly are a beautiful couple and the clothing was gorgeous! Did they keep them? And you! What a beautiful picture and oh my, that outfit was just perfect for the occasion,…..except for the sitting on the floor! Did someone have to help you up? I can’t even imagine getting DOWN on the floor with that skirt! But, wow, you certainly were a beautiful mother of the groom!

Jeanne, just relax, if you can, and take your time with getting back to sewing. We aren’t going away, why, every day is something new and worth the wait to see what’s next!! We are as excited as you probably are about the upcoming festivities! And I think maybe Alina is next with the wedding pictures? A Polish wedding! We are going around the world with weddings, what could be more fun than that?

  3. Hello Jeanne and Sofa Sisters! I’ve been reading all the posts and I hope this reply makes it on. I’ve written a few replies but because I didn’t know the right URL, my posts wouldn’t reply. My son helped me figure out what I should put in on that line.

However, I’ve enjoyed the subjects on the blog. Jeanne, your bedroom is really coming along!
It’s been exciting to see Rebecca’s wedding flowers and hear about done of her plans. I’m sure it’s been very busy with all of that going on.

The pictures today and previously have been enjoyable. Joy’s outfits are adorable. I love the color scheme of Hanna’s outfit – it is really cute.

Susette, what wonderful pictures of your son’s wedding. I can only imagine how you got up off the floor in your elegant suit. You look lovely.

I enjoyed the wedding pictures yesterday too. I forget whose they were? Ingrid’s? Those wedding flowers were beautiful too. And such great ideas on the tables and the material in the chairs.

Charlotte, hope the doctors can get to the bottom of the tests they took. Hope you are st least feeling better.
Jeanne, you take the time you need during these next few weeks. Thank you for sharing all these pictures with us. I know this is a time for you to enjoy and share in your daughter’s planning.

A few details: Those are the few pictures I took as the “real” photographer politely asked me not to take any because the flash interferes with his pictures. Even the men listened up during the long ceremony as Indian weddings are narrated in Sanskrit and no one understands the language anymore. It was wonderful to have the interpreter there just for our family, but everyone appreciated it as it’s a beautiful ceremony and was interested to know what they had promised, although they do understand the significance of what’s going on. Dinner with both American and Indian food and of course dancing. Indian people love to dance. So colorful to see all the saris in motion.

There were relatives there from six of the seven continents. I asked why they were so dispersed and was told it’s because if something happens in one country, they have relatives to whom they can turn in another. I think we can all appreciate that right now.

The wedding was held at a hotel and the traditional wedding tent was set up. They no longer hire an elephant for the bride to ride on at the end of the ceremony and Rakhi didn’t even want a horse because her dress might have gotten damaged. They certainly do keep the dresses but they are never worn again. Yes, my dress was a problem. They did find a small poof for me to sit on. My hair curler died that morning, so I looked kind of scary!
Rakhi had traditional Indian henna designs on her hands, arms and feet. The longer it takes for them to wear off, the happier your marriage will be! I have a picture of it somewhere.

Joy, I think you and Linda are professional doll photographers. You should put your patterns on Etsy. Great job on their clothes. Luca and Hanna are so cute.

Looking forward to more wedding pictures and seeing Rebecca’s soon. Have fun preparing.

  4. Joy Lynne Carter

Praying for Charlotte. I agree with the others Jeanne. Nobody’s worried about the sewing. We’re all carried along with your life. Thankyou for taking us with you while you all prepare Rebecca’s wedding 🤗

  5. Joy in northern CA

What a treat to see the Indian wedding. Glad that Susette was able to sneak in a few pics of her own to share with us. The fabrics are so flowy and lush. What a beautiful mother of the bride outfit too. Love the color and so tasteful. Who would have thought you’d be sitting on the floor. 🙂
Glad Charlotte may get some answers to her health problems soon even though the prep may not be so fun. Be thinking of you.
The countdown has begun for Rebecca, Karn, and Jeanne. I’ll bet there are to do lists posted all over the sewing room. I do hope Jeanne is getting some sleep between errands. Please take care. 🙂

Joy, your back to school Hannah and Luca are so perfect for sunny California or the blazing hot south where someone decided August was just right for back to school. I love their little back packs. Did you make those too?

Susette, That is a gorgeous wedding! We were able to view Indian wedding guests arrive at their venue downtown one beautiful summer day. The colors of the saris was breathtaking and unforgettable. Your mother of the groom dress is stunning, the color so perfect for you.

Charlotte, Best wishes for improving health.

Jeanne, You get a sewing pass. Thank you for bringing us along.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Didn’t make the backpacks. They are from Walmart in the back to school stuff. 🙂

  7. Sally from Colorado

    Dear JEANNE,

I am feeling badly about your sleeping in such cramped quarters when you have so much on your mind and on your plate. Is there no one at your church who might have a small camper or RV that can be parked in your yard for Karn? BTW, is that his full name? At any rate, I sure hope they are making hay and getting things pulled together to their satisfaction.

JOY! I can’t for the life of me think why young Luca is still mooning over Stella when little Miss Hanna is cute as a button. As are all of those outfits! Absolutely darling and look so well made. I love how you cut the fabric for the romper. The outfits and accessories (and boy, you sure seem to have them! 😁) are pure delight. Thank you for sharing. Color me very impressed.

CHARLOTTE, it will be good to get some test results that may provide the key to your wellness. Hang in there. This old cheerleader is waving her silly pompous for you!

SUZETTE, you look like a model. I love the very simple, elegant, clean lines of your gown and jacket. The color is perfect for you and you hair, which, to me, looks salon-perfect! I can see where getting up and down from the floor would pose a puzzle. The wedding pictures are also a treat; what an experience that was for all attendees! It truly was quite an extraordinary wedding, and thank you for sharing these photos with all of us.

So, I guess that means we will see dear ALINA’S wedding pictures soon? This has really been fun, and I am getting a kick out of it. Thank you all for sharing your pictures, and INGRID, I saw your note late yesterday and made a reply. I think you looked gorgeous, but was so sorry to read about your accident and all the ensuing pain and immobility. I have a lot of catching up with you sofa sisters.

Hugs all around, be well, have a good day.

I love sharing traditions from other countries. Their ceremonies are so meaningful. Susette’s dress is lovely and looks so good on her. I love the color. Being a fabriholic I definitely enjoy seeing all the lovely fabrics. Indian clothes are beautiful. I’ll have to show these pictures to my H4H Nahji. I’m sure she would love to have a traditional outfit. Maybe for her someday wedding (that should give me plenty of time to figure it out – she’s still very young).

A Polish wedding! Sounds like fun. I’ve been to a few Polish weddings here and they were fun and long lasting. It will be great to see pictures of a truly traditional one.

Joy, how cute your back-to-schoolers look. Great backpacks! I love Hanna’s hairbow. Luca looks really cute in both of his outfits and Hanna’s is precious. Good job!

Charlotte, I am so sorry for what you are going through. The worst part is having symptoms and not knowing what’s causing them. I remember a few years ago when I kept having severe pains sometimes after eating. They were actually located in my back. I finally figured out it had something to do with my gall bladder but I didn’t have the usual symptoms that indicated need for surgery. Turns out I had a sinus infection that ended up as an intestinal infection and somehow my gall bladder got involved. A round of antibiotics took care of all of it and I’ve been fine for over three years now.

Jeanne, as many have said don’t worry about not sewing at the moment. We are a group with eclectic tastes so we enjoy any and all things. And allowing us to go along on the wedding preparation journey is fun in itself.

  9. So nice to go back and find you, Ingrid. You are lovely and I’m so sorry to hear about your accident and surgeries. Praying you find answers to your current health problems. Thank you again for sharing the lovely wedding photos

Charlotte, praying that the CT will provide some answers and that you will be on the mend soon.

Joy, I love Hanna’s outfit with her huge hair bow. She looks cute as can be. I can’t imagine why Luca isn’t paying her attention with her sweet little bob.hairstyle. Luca looks wonderful in his sunny CA outfits as well. If he’s that smitten, maybe getting him his own Stella would help?

Susette, you look lovely in your fancy gown, but I do imagine trying to sit on the floor would have been a challenge. Thank you from sharing your son’s wedding. The sari fabrics are beautiful.
The red dot is a bindi. It shows you are married. My college roommate was half Indian. Her father was and her mother was Irish/ Scandinavian. She would make us traditional Indian food in the dorm sometime, but had to tone down the spices because we thought it was too hot.

  10. Kathie from Omaha

Luca and Hanna look so real and so now…ready for school! I love your version of the romper Joy. Why not sell your pattern? I’d buy it☺️
Good for you getting more tests Charlotte. Hope this will show what has been a problem and “fix” it!
Suzette the wedding pictures are great….and such beautiful fabrics for sure! Your ensemble is one of the best Mother-of-the-Bride ever! The color and the fit couldn’t be any better. It helps that you are a pretty model though! 😉 How did you ever get up off the floor?…with gentle help I’m sure.
Jeanne your wedding will be here before you know it! Enjoy all the prep…it’s as much fun as the wedding! Maybe I’ll send pics of our kids weddings…..they have been quite a while ago now🥴

  11. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, another day with wonderful photos.

Hanna and Luca are so sweet. I love to see “first day of school” outfits. I remember the fun of shopping for them. Anyone remember Robert Halls? We used to shop there. Also, my Mother loved buying things from the Spiegel catalogue.

Suzette sent lovely wedding photos. Congratulations to the bride and groom!

Suzette’s dress is stunning. I agree with her. It would be difficult to sit on the floor.

  12. Marilyn from Colorado

It seems to me that this is working out very well short-term. Letting us carry the ball part of the time for a while speaks well for the sofa sisters. That’s what friends are for.

Susette’s wedding pictures are beautiful. A friend met an Indian woman in library school and they went to India for the wedding, which was much like Rakhi and David’s. It’s an unforgettable way to start life together.

Charlotte, I’m hoping (and praying) for the best possible outcome for you.

In the meantime, keep those weddings coming.

  13. Joy in northern CA

Thank you for the nice comments on Hanna’s outfit. I should have included the information that the shortalls pattern was not designed by me. I purchased it from Matilda’s Closet. I would love to see Jeanne’s great pattern available in her Etsy shope in the future. 🙂
As to Luca, the girls here are relatives he sees everyday, not like his love, Stella. 🙂

  14. Susette from Southern California

Thanks to all for the kind comments on the pictures. I’m really looking forward to more pictures of weddings!

  15. Hi Jeanne,

Thank you for sharing Joy and Susettes photos. I hope you are enjoying your soon to be son in-laws company and getting to know him. I can only imagine the excitement in the air at your place. You’ll look back at all the wedding planning and wedding talk with fond memories once everything has quieted down.

Joy you did a great job, love the outfits and the fabric choices. Perfect for a modern day school outfit. Love the tiny little back packs what a cute touch. Where ever did you find them?

Susette, your son and Rakhi certainly make a handsome couple. I love all the lovely fabric’s. Rakhis bridal outfit is gorgeous, all the gold detail along the edges so very pretty. wow
Susette your gown is lovely. If they told me I was expected to sit on the floor in that beautiful gown I may have just cried… well maybe not cried but certainly wondered who was going to pick me up off the floor LOL. Your hair looks lovely, I can imagine you probably were worried when you realized your curling iron stopped working. I have that kind of luck myself. Nothing you can do but make the best of it right? I feel like you may have told us before but how did David meet his bride? I feel like it may have been college.

Charlotte, praying that you’ll be feeling better real soon. I hope your CT visit goes well and it’s not horribly unpleasant. I know the stuff they make you drink is nasty. I’m so sorry… imagine it’s your favorite beverage. You got this!

Sally, you are too kind. thank you… As I looked back at your comment and scrolled down I noticed I’m in another photo. I’m waiting in the doorway holding my sons arm as Christian escorts his mother down the aisle and to her seat. I certainly didn’t feel my best that day! I hated my hair! We hired two hairdressers to come to the house that morning. I probably should gone for a practise updo days before the big day but I didn’t. My hair was done in a french roll and plastered to my head with a half a can of hairspray. Because my chest area is quite ample the stuck to my head updo made me look like I had a pinhead. There was no time to change it, oh well … I had enough pain meds in me that day to take down a horse! I was determined to walk down the aisle in my new silver heels bought pre-accident and darn it but I did just that!

Laura, Thank you for your kind words and prayers… you are so sweet!

Kathie, I’d love to see your kids wedding photos! What fun!

Dorothy, I loved the Spiegel catalogue… It’s been 25 years since I last ordered what ever became of them?

    Hugs to everyone
    Ingrid
