A slight delay for Josefina…

If you feel like I have been missing in action, it hasn’t been your imagination. I have been a little preoccupied. I know the comments are still messed up and I have to approve them, but I don’t want to just go online and give my password and other information about my blog to “someone” I don’t know…so I’m still waiting for help from a couple of my friends.

On top of that, in July, Karpet Korner, the place where we bought our vinyl plank flooring, had a Christmas in July sale and made us a deal on some flooring that was too good to pass up. They gave us such a good deal, we bought enough of the planks to finish the back part of our house, our bedroom and my hubby’s small office (and laundry room.)

Karpet Korner only had 45 boxes of the color we picked, and we figured we needed 24 of them, so my hubby wanted us to get on this as soon as we could, in case we needed a few more boxes before they disappeared. The plank color was one shade lighter than what we have now, but we figured it was okay since it’s in the back of the house.

So we moved out all the furniture out of our bedroom into the sitting room and it’s a disaster around here. The windows we put in several years ago never were finished on the inside so we are having to fix those too…

…and we have those ceilings that are those speckled cellulose tiles…like this…that we wanted to prime over and make it white.

So it looks like this now…yes, that’s kind of a rosy room, isn’t it? It’s actually called Brick Dust and my hubby said I could paint it Agreeable Gray!!! Now it will be the same as Rebecca’s room and my sewing room and the one wall in my kitchen… I’m VERY excited about that!!

There has been an area behind our bed, where the paneling apparently got wet and it looks like that wall in my sewing room…

So here we go again… nothing is ever easy in this house, but it’s not a horrific job…at least we don’t think it is…

I know I said I was going to lay off the “home remodeling” posts a while back but we have to get this done…at least our bedroom right now…

I will get back to Josefina as soon as I possibly can…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Charlotte Trayer, north of Seattle,

Well, you have sure had your hands full lately, Jeanne! Hope all goes well with the various home projects for you, so you can get back to sewing soon!

Sally, thanks for clarifying about Kirsten’s Swedish costume. I appreciate it!

Today we saw Ron’s cardiologist and the upshot (from last week’s echo) is that, although the floppy/weepy mitral valve hasn’t gotten any worse, there is a possibility of at least a partial blockage. Surgery is not an option (he’s 88 and frail), but they Could possibly put in a stent or do a clip on the valve; however, those would involve more invasive tests first. So, for now we have decided on medical management, and if something happens and he is in the hospital and these other options are presented to us at that time, we will reconsider.

We are both fine with this. As I said, he’s 88, and he has had several times in his life where he has narrowly escaped death. Plus, he’s saved and knows where he’s going after he dies!

Maya is all dressed, and waiting to have her picture taken! Tomorrow, I hope!

How exciting or you, Jeanne! This is something you might as well do when you can, and how nice your house will look, both inside and out! Then you can sit back, relax, and watch the grass grow!😉 We can wait for Josefina’s new outfit!

Charlotte, glad to hear you and Ron both are doing well! Hopefully we can see Maya in her new outfit soon!

And Sally, thank you for explaining how you store your doll outfits. It’s always interesting to see how others do things!

I am so excited that you will have flooring in the whole house. Or so I think. Hope there is enough for the hall too? Since you both have learned so much putting in the other floors and fixing the bowed walls, any other fixes will seem like a piece of cake. Hummingbird of course. Those ceiling tiles will look so nice when they are painted white and you won’t have to wonder anymore if water from the roof might stain them. That roof is the best thing ever! As to moving into the sitting room from the bedroom, at least you have a big enough place to move everything. The bedroom refreshing and everything else will be so amazing when completed. Just think. Floors and no more plywood. 🙂 Looking forward to progress reports.
Annaelle, RRFF girl looks like there were 200 available. Happily and Samantha’s still has them just in case anyone is interested. 🙂 Some have said shipping late August, others soon, whatever that means? I actually finished a little fall sundress for the girls yesterday. Still working on other bits and pieces. Very envious of Jeanne’s remodeling energy. We need a lot of that around here. 🙂

    Dear Jeanne,

Ha! Here I thought you and George had concluded all your remodeling!! Well, you are very smart to take advantage of the sale and fortunate to find planks so close to what you have. Brava! Hope you can get that BR back in order in the next day or so to help facilitate important sleep for you both. I was surprised to see the color of your bedroom…so close to the antique red we have had for years. We love it. But sounds like you don’t, so it will be terrific to have it be the color you want.

Charlotte, thank you for continuing to keep us apprised of your life with Ron. While probably a lot of us have not yet dealt with seriously ailing spouses, we have gone through similar scenarios with parents or dear friends. Sure isn’t easy, but the way I see it, these times are a blessing of a strange sort. We can see life and things with a greater clarity while developing a more philosophical outlook for our final chapters. Prayers for peace and joy for you both. You are in our hearts.

AND, Miss Charlotte, we are all very much eager to see what you have done for your Maya! Did you find the shoes or is she still whining?

Linda, how do you store your doll clothes? Like you, I am always interested to learn something new.

Joy, I am wondering what you have succumbed to this past week in terms of RRFF. I see RRFF has sold out on Anaelle that was announced yesterday though Samanthasdolls and Happily have some still . Because our oldest granddaughter is named Elle and her coloring and eyes are so very close to this doll, I caved. Mea culpa.

Good luck with your projects Jeanne. Hope it isn’t too hot and humid right now. I sure would like to paint some walls here but the thought of moving stuff just gives me the willies. More power to you. You two are dynamos.

Hugs to you all. Have a glorious day!

    Sally

I usually agree with Linda, but this time I have to disagree — you are never going to sit back, relax, and watch anything grow. You will always find something useful to do, You may watch the chickens grow, but you’ll do that while you sew, bake, and decorate. I do love your energy.

Also, you’ve given us some wonderful outfits recently. You can take a break. Posts on house progress are fine — better than fine. I’m sure all of us are going to enjoy the progress and will happily cheer you on.

  6. Jeannie your outfits are always worth waiting for. So glad you and hubby are able to redo your bedroom etc. and you don’t need to worry about any leaks damaging the hard work, Will that be all your rooms finished? Can’t wait to see those pictures too!
A big thanks to all who share their doll pictures and stories, no one around me really understands dolly love like you all do, they smile and nod, but you all make it feel okay! Stay well all.

  7. Kathie from Omaha

The DIY Couple are at it again! Since you are able to do these projects yourself it is time to “go for it again” When you mentioned a few weeks ago that your bedroom still needed that flooring I had a suspicion it it was next on the list! Having it the soft grey will be easy to decorate around and of course look nice with the floor. This will be a breeze compared to the other recent projects😉
    You will love it.

How wonderful you found similar flooring at a reduced price. It must feel good to be coming to the end of “have to” and “seriously want to” remodeling projects. We’re not even close and we’re older. I really hoped to be further along by this time in our lives but hubby seems to have amazing energy (he and the boys are rebuilding the deck on his large tractor mower and in the heat too) and when he gets his knees fixed I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep up with him. As for Josefina’s outfit, I’m sure you’ll get back to it as soon as possible. I’m very patient. Probably because I don’t have a Josefina.

I too succumbed to the lovely, gentle look of Anaella. I ordered her from the RRFF site. I’ve been looking at the By The Sea collection on Happily.com. I have a Sara and a Bella and have been wanting a Maya but I really would love to have the shoes on Bella. I’m still thinking of ordering Maya By the Sea. Her outfit is so cute and she is just adorable.

I made a major doll purchase lately. When Dorothy in PA and the World mentioned the UFDC I got on their website and looked at the dolls for sale. I ordered Helen Kish’s “Bravest Little Girl”. It’s a tribute to Ruby Bridges. I read that the doll was 10″ and felt she would fit my Boneka doll clothes. In truth she is barely over 9″ and very tiny. She’s precious. And after doing some research and contacting CInnamon at Pixie Faire for measurements I discovered she could wear the 9″ Kruseling doll clothes. There are some on Etsy and patterns for their clothes on Etsy and Pixie Faire. Since I’m not big on dolls just sitting on a shelf, and this one is in the beautiful little dress in the painting, by Norman Rockwell, I needed to find her something more casual to wear. When she saw everyone else in shorts she said she would love to have some of those too. I told her I had ordered her some and she was really pleased. I wasn’t planning on buying anymore “pricey” dolls for awhile, but I could not resist little Ruby. And now I’ve ordered Anaelle. Problem is I still have some dolly fever left over. Is a down payment on Maya By the Sea in the offing?

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your new evolving remodeling project.

    1. Sally from Colorado

      Hi, Barbara.
Oh, boy! Dolly fever is rampant and I love it! Had to look up your little Ruby and , you’re right. She sure is mighty special. Good for you and congratulations! Also glad you found some patterns from Cinnamon.
Did you also get a notice today that your Anaelle is being shipped?
Mrs. Wiedlocher has no idea what was unleashed in my head when she first showed her first RRFF. My preordered Rebecca is arriving in France today and soon she will be coming. I made down payments on 4 of the By-the-Sea, and preordered Marianella for October. Fever for sure! I will need to be on alert for when these arrive….you just might want to make that down payment on Maya BTS! Did you see that these dolls, except for Luca, have removable wigs?
So. Good for you! Enjoy the rest of your day.
      Sally

Oh Barbara, how fun to have dollies coming soon. My Annaelle is probably on the same truck with Sally’s. Maybe yours too? Mine is due the 27th so we’ll see. I’m sure you will get an email shortly for your delivery date if not already.
Congrats on Ruby. I bought several Kruseling outfits for my little Meadow kids at Samantha’s Dolls. She had a wonderful selection. They are very well made too.

  9. Susette from Southern California

It’s nice to have lots of dolls. I’m sure some the blog followers would like to be able to buy even one.

  10. Barbara in SE Texas

Yes I got the notice today that Anaelle was on her way. I’m all for instant gratification. I took a look at her shoes and didn’t think they really looked right with her beautiful dress so I spent the afternoon perusing Etsy for RRFF shoes. So many, so wonderful and a lot of them so expensive. I found a pair for the dress and, of course, all the other FFs had to tell me how they were lacking in the shoe department so I bought a few more pairs of sandals to keep peace since when I was dressing them I noticed we were a bit shy in the summer shoe department. My number of dolls has outnumbered the pairs of shoes available. Didn’t catch the removable wig thing. Need to go back and reread.
