Stella gets some flip flops…

I’m sure of it! I have the greatest readers any blogger could hope to have… you all seem to have had a blast today and I wasn’t even around to be in on it… But when Susette suggested everyone put what state they were from… immediately everyone started doing it and responding back and forth to each other! How very kind of everyone to comment on others comments and congratulate and send wishes and all kinds of things… I am truly blessed to have each one of you in my circle! Thank you for that!

Oh, and someone asked why they had to wait for approval before their comment went through. It was just a safeguard I put in place when I started my blog… most new people have to get approval but once it’s given they can comment all they want. So when you added your state, approval was needed to have your comments added. Hope you didn’t mind…

Well, Happy Anniversary to Charlotte! 47 years married to Ron and they are still in love! He lets her buy ALL the dolls she wants and I’m guessing he gets to buy tools! (or maybe something else he likes!) :o) We all hope you have a wonderful dinner with your friend, Charlotte!
Blessings to you from all of us!

Now, about those cabinets… I have 2 doors that need a top coat and I will be done. I would have been done Tuesday, but my long pantry doors needed a 3rd coat of primer because they were still rough when I sanded them the 2 times I did with all my other cabinets. That extra drying time for the primer set me back just a bit… I have the back side drying and in the morning I will flip those 2 long pantry doors over and give them the final 2 top coats! My kitchen looks amazing to me… my hubby and I put down the toe kick yesterday and that really finished off the looks down by the floor…

We had a full day of cleaning house and finishing things up… our company is coming Thursday afternoon… we skipped lunch and just ate some crackers while we took a short break… then we didn’t stop to eat dinner until 9:15…and my hubby made it… macaroni and cheese, a salad and turkey sandwiches… I was still painting…

At quarter till 10:00, I stepped into my sewing room and asked myself, how hard could it be to make a pair of flip flops for Stella… well, a little figuring, a little searching for the right things, and I think I have something started. I would love to have some jute trim along the edges but I don’t have any, so I will see what I can come up with tomorrow… but here’s what I got done tonight…

Stella has a little bit of space between her big toe and the second one… so a pair of flip flops works wonderfully for her… at least I hope they will… I custom fit them to her foot and toes… Here are a few pictures…

I made them from 2 different pieces of leather scraps I had and will cut it off to make them the same size…

As I was painting in the back of our house today, I couldn’t resist snapping a picture of our beautiful Rhododendron!

Well, this is a short post… because I had a long day… it’s 12:30 so I need to get to bed…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne in Southern Illinois :o)

Thank you, Jeanne, and everyone, for the anniversary greetings. I have to say, Ron doesn’t usually “know” about all the dolls I buy! They just sort of appear now and then, and if he says something, I can honestly say, “Oh, I got her a year or two ago”!! LOL And yes, he’s had his “things”, too–lots and lots of records from the 40s and 50s, earlier in our marriage (and I think we still have most of them), and when the VCRs first came out, guess who was waiting for Sears to open after early service one Sunday, because…they were on sale, and there were going to be THREE Jane Powell movies on that week, which he just Had to tape!! LOL (Janie is is absolute, all-time favorite when it comes to movie stars–and we even got to meet her once! That man did not drive home, he flew…on a rosy pink cloud! LOL) We now own probably hundreds of movies, some he taped, some we bought (both tapes and DVDs) and we both love to watch old movies, especially musicals. (He also has a large assortment of various kinds of tools, as he enjoys tinkering with things. He’s kept our 52-year-old gas dryer running since it was new! But he used to do that kind of work for a living before he retired.)

We had a lovely dinner out, and he bought me a corsage, which he does most years for our anniversary. This time we invited our neighbor Pat to join us; her late husband was Ron’s best friend and the best man at our wedding.

Oh, Jeanne, this is so exciting, your cabinets are ALMOST DONE!!!! Definitely something to be celebrated!!!

And are going to be wonderful, I can see that already. Such a fun idea, making flipflops for her! Now of course my Hanna and Bella are going to want them!!

Your rhody is gorgeous, and almost exactly the color of the bridesmaids’ gowns at our wedding!

    1. Paula from Ohio/CA

Congratulations Charlotte and Ron on your anniversary!!
If I remember, you and I both had the lavender dress colors for our maid of honor and bridesmaids. Our anniversary is tomorrow and it will be our 49th wedding anniversary. We were both May brides.

      1. Happy Anniversary to you dear Paula, and your loving husband. God’s blessings on your special day and many happy years to come.

      2. Sally in Colorado

Paula, happy anniversary to you tomorrow. I am a May bride, too. I chose the very last day of May so I wouldn’t be a “June Bride”. I was pretty ornery back then, and I guess things haven’t changed much in that department. We will be 52 years and it has been quite a journey. Hope you have something special lined up like Charlotte and Ron did.
        Sending all my best!

      3. Charlotte Trayer, north of Seattle

Congratulations, Paula, on your 49th anniversary, and to you, Sally, on your 52nd, later in the month! How about that, three May brides on this list!

    2. Sally in Colorado

Charlotte, I think it is SO sweet that Ron gets you a corsage for your anniversary. That just warmed my heart. So glad it was a fine for both of you.

OOps, that next-to-last paragraph should say, Stella’s new shoes are going to be wonderful!! And in the part about Jane Powell, it should say that she “is HIS absolute, all-time favorite”… This is what happens when I forget to proofread before I hit Send! LOL

  3. Sylvia from NH

Well you are almost there! Those big doors are like doing 3. But it is such a good feeling to be at the finish line. Got today to get over that line!
. The flip-flops are perfect.. They will add a lot to Stella’s outfit.
    Have great day!

  4. Susette from Southern California

Wow! I’m so glad everyone jumped right in when Marilyn told us how to add our locations. I’m also glad Jeanne put Southern in front of Illinois as I will with California.

I’m loving this outfit, but I can’t believe Jeanne can sit down to make flip flops at 10 pm! I’m going to continue to think of you as Energizer Jeanne but not even that designation covers it. Isn’t it wonderful to be able to show off your kitchen for the first time, albeit hopefully we come first. It’s okay if we don’t, though, with guests coming tomorrow. Thanks for including us in all your adventures!

  5. Karen from Kentucky

The flip flops are off to a great start!

Happy Anniversary to Charlotte and her husband! Today is also my parents’ Anniversary! It is their 42nd one.

  6. Debbie from Tennessee

Jeanne, you continue to be an inspiration and your kitchen will be a thing of beauty! The flip flops seem to be just the right ending for Stella’s summer outfit. Your rhododendrons are really pretty, ours were a dud this year. Surprising because all of our other spring flowers continue to bloom.
Congratulations Charlotte on a long and successful marriage. Wishing you many more Happy Anniversaries!

  7. Joy in northern CA

Gorgeous rhododendron. (Gee, that should be a spelling bee word of which I never excelled.) And it is the same color as Charlotte’s bridesmaids outfits. Beautiful. And congrats to Charlotte and her husband on their anniversary.
So happy to hear that the kitchen will soon be complete. Your company will arrive to a sparkling home and wonderful friendship.
Stella’s new thongs, as they were called in my generation, will be perfect with her romper and skirt. How fun that they will match so well. Definitely something to add to the Etsy shop. 🙂
Luca and Daisy both received new t-shirts with their names yesterday, so that made them happy. However, Luca is still pining away for Stella who he hopes will appear in her new complete outfit soon. I thought I was about done with the 4th of July dress for the 14″ set, but decided it needed rickrack along the bottom of the skirt. So now I have to decide if I want to sew it on top of the already hemmed edge or rip that out and then add the rickrack. Decisions decisions.
Hope everyone has a great middle of the week day. 🙂

    1. Sally in Colorado

Holy cow. You sew, too? Does everyone here sew except me? Well, you all have very lucky dollies and I hope we get to see your “twins” in their coordinating outfits, Joy. Love how people share pics, stories and support here. I remember when Jeanne was first starting this blog, how nervous she was about learning the process. Well, like everything else she attempts, she has done a fantastic job.

  8. Barbara in SE Texas

I’m renaming myself again today because obviously I don’t know where I live. I’m in SE Texas not SW, west of Houston. I think I have myself located now so this should be my final need for approval.

I love the flip flops. So cute. If you were my next door neighbor rather than my virtual neighbor I would be glad to pop over and give you some jute trim for your flip flops. I have nearly everything I need to make anything I want but I never seem to get around to using it for what I bought it for. I would be glad to share. I also have braid in many colors for fancier flip flops or espadrilles. I have to agree with Susette that at 10 p.m. heading into my sewing room is not going to happen. I’m winding down for the evening. I’m actually watching “Carol Burnett” on METV. With all the stress out there her show ups my endorphin level before bed. Reminds me of the good old days.

I totally agree with your comments on the group. We are a compatible bunch. Sometimes I feel like we run away with your blog but then I think it’s a feather in your cap that we feel free to do this and share things. And it does free you up for other things when needed. I have no family or friends who share my love of dolls and sewing so hanging out here is important to me. I love hearing of the experiences of others and what they are up to and seeing things they’ve made and their doll scenes. And of course watching the evolution of your creations. Makes my day.

In my comment yesterday I mentioned needing my two louvered pantry doors painted. That would complete my kitchen. Doing it myself is not going to happen. David is very territorial about who does the painting, staining, etc., around here. He has professionally done this in the past. I can act as assistant if needed but now he has Sean for that so I stick to my sewing and leave the other to them. But I’m not mentioning the doors to hubby and Sean because I don’t want to take them off making my vanity, especially when they have an out-of-town job coming up in the next couple weeks. David used to do construction site work with laser-controlled equipment. He’s retired but a man he used to work for who’s our age and semi-retired still builds tennis courts. He bids jobs when he wants to and David is his site work guy. We still have David’s laser controlled dozer but we sold our big haul trucks and trailers. The man hires transport for the equipment to and from the job. This job is west of San Antonio and should last about two weeks. I’m trying to figure out how many dolls or doll-related items I can order that will come in while he’s gone. He still doesn’t know about H4H Zelia and siblie Sydney. Collecting dolls has encouraged the devious side of my nature. Therapy for this is out of the question.

I’m so excited about the prospect of seeing your completed kitchen. I’m coming along on my baby quilt. I’ve done the quilting and am ready for the binding. It’s my first quilt project so I’m gaining confidence as I go.

Crazy evening and night last night. Constant storms coming up from the south. Last evening we were under a tornado warning for several hours. Bad enough during the daytime but at night it’s worse because you can see anything. And we live near a railroad track so we couldn’t tell if it was a train or a tornado. Fortunately David grew up in Kansas and he recognizes the sound. He says they sound like a train but have a more wobbling sound. He was totally relaxed all evening. I wasn’t a bit. More rain expected today but I hope no more stormy weather.

    1. Sally in Colorado

Barbara, you cracked me up with your plotting what to order for your dolls while the man is away. Huh! Same happens here, but I try to engineer package arrivals for the usual days mine is “supposed” to hike. (That translates to when I want him to be hiking.) Anyway, I so get it and especially loved your saying “therapy for this is out of the question.” Amen, sister!
Also, I loved your expressing your appreciation for having this venue for doll talk. Same here. I started out subscribing when Jeanne first started, but I didn’t get involved. Glad I have finally given it a try. I also look forward to this every day.

  9. Linda from St. Louis

Like Susette, Jeanne, I can’t imagine you could be making doll shoes at 10:00 pm! What kind of vitamins do you take? Those thongs are darling, and that’s so nice that Stella can wear them! Her cute little toes with polish are perfect for showing them off! They look like the perfect accessory for that darling outfit!

I think we are going crazy with anticipation of seeing the “new” kitchen! You will feel so proud of yourself, and it will be fun to show it off!

Your pretty Rhododendron makes a beautiful statement in your yard. Azaleas are now pretty much gone, and iris are fading, but clematis is blooming and my weiglia is now at it’s best. Spring is coming and going, it seems! Summer isn’t far off!

  10. Paula from Ohio/CA

Jeanne, again, I don’t know how you do all those things in one day, day after day. However, your long days and talents always create wonderful things and renovations. We are all anxious to see your kitchen. It’s been fun seeing your pictures all these years of it’s new look.

Stella’s thongs will be the ideal final touch. They are so cute and a perfect fit. It’s cute how Luca thinks Stella is cute and a nice girl to know. Gosh, do they both have cell phones?
    Off to a busy day!

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Paula, Happy Anniversary to you. I hope you have a grand celebration!

    2. Cell phones never crossed my mind. It would be quite interesting if Stella and Luca had one. 🙂

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

My Build-A-Bear Bunny has two of them. An older version and a newer one. I never thought to look for doll cell phones. I’m sure they have them somewhere.

  11. The flip flops are super cute and also hilarious in their untrimmed state!

Excited for the big kitchen reveal!

  12. Laura from Ohio

Stella’s new flip flops will be so cute. I like the color combination you chose.
Your rhododendron is just lovely. This time of year is so pretty, first with all the flowering tress and bulbs and then the flowering bushes.

  13. Kathie from NE

Oh…that Rhododendron!! Maybe next year I will plant one🤔. Outstanding!
You must treat yourself to something special when they are completed…. maybe the boy doll that is flirting with your Stella? It would be fun and then you could make matching outfits?
Glad you had a good anniversary dinner Charlotte!
Off to make salads for one of the Grandsons Graduation…another fun weekend happening
I should put Omaha after my name because Nebraska is so different from East to west. City to farm country to sand hills.

  14. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, sorry I have been a bit per-occupied. Our Doll Club Luncheon is in 24 days! I am the chair and there are still so many things to do. I have been planning this for three years (well, I guess two because it was supposed to happen last year). It will be on Saturday, June 12, which is World Doll Day.

I wondered why folks were listing their locations, now I see. What fun!

Well, Sofa Sisters, you have a friend in Pennsylvania (our old license plate slogan which I bet Barbara remembers – smile).

I remain, as always, Dorothy in PA and the World

  15. Sally in Colorado

Jeanne Marie. You truly take the cake for all that you do with your home projects, your sewing, this blog, your family and your community. You are salt of the earth. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself with all of us. Thanks for being you.

Stella’s thong sandals will be so fun. Would you be able to use your bonnet braid (sorry, I don’t know the proper term) to trim the sides?

So nice to see your rhodie picture. I miss seeing them as they are unusual in this town.

Well, hope you’re done with the kitchen, that you have been able to eat good meals today, and that you treat yourself to an early bed tonight to be rested for your company. All of us are dying to see the kitchen, and congratulations. Have fun.

  16. Ingrid B in NY

    Hi Jeanne,
The flip flops are so cute. Good job and Stella’s sweet little toes shine with her new flip flops highlighting them. Your view out your window is lovely. Your Rhododendron is such a beauty and the color is very pretty. At our last house we had a monster of a bush. It was in a very protected area faced north and seemed to love it there, It was the biggest Rhododendron I’ve never seen at least 10 feet tall and probably just as wide. I just left it alone for fear of killing it. It drew tons of bees when it was in flower. Somewhere there was a happy buzzing bee hive making lots of honey. Here at “windy acres” everything gets beat down and wind burned. The lilac’s don’t seem to mind as much even after they were in bud and a late snow storm piled 4 inches of snow on them they still bloomed beautifully.

Happy Anniversary to Charlotte and Ron and also wishing Paula and her honey a Happy Anniversary.
    Hugs
    Ingrid

  17. Joy Northern CA

Hi Sally. Yes, I do sew, but nothing like Jeanne. Just the more simple stuff. 🙂

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Joy, the things you make are wonderful and so creative. Sally needs to check out your “Camp Meadow” pictures. My girls wanted to attend Camp Meadow this summer but I had to give them the sad news that the tents have been backordered indefinitely. Maybe next summer.
