3 winners, 2 wigs, 1 Stitch and an Auction

Well, for those of you who voted that the BLUE dress would go the highest…it went for $83.00… and you lost! Sorry! My hubby was so sad!

That means the Beige dress won… and did it ever… It ended up selling for $112. I was so happy because I was on the winning team… so were Cindy and Deb. They both texted me Woohoo’s!

So that meant “I” got the draw the winning name out of the ladies who guessed “Beige” would go the highest…and JOY was our winner.

She will be sent a pair of the shoes that Samantha and Nellie were wearing… these…

Congratulations Joy! I’ll get them out today.

Next topic… doll wigs…

Does anyone besides me ever look at the doll wigs on Ebay? I mean the really low priced doll wigs… and do you look at them starting with the “lowest price” and work your way up? I do occasionally because sometimes you find sellers who have no idea what they are selling and you can find some great deals… Well, I did that this past week… I found this one…

The seller was selling if for $6.99 and I offered her $5.00 and she took it. It’s not a style I can use all the time, but with the right dress, it just might be the perfect look. It’s a size 7/8 so it fits my Little Darlings and Bailey…

Then I found this other wig… The lady said it was in new condition and I didn’t ask any questions because it looked like a sweet little shiny reddish toned pageboy wig that might have a sprig of hair that can be pulled up on top like I’ve seen on some wigs. I figured I could trim it up and make it workable…

Now, doesn’t that look like it would be cute?

Well, maybe not… this is what it looks like in person…

I’m not kidding you! I have no idea which way it goes and I’ll show you more tomorrow of what it looks like underneath. I think it was a wig that was “started but never finished!” I was so sad this time! :o(

A few of you asked about the stitch around the felt jacket on Lian. These are the settings I used on my machine…

It sort of pulls in on the long stitch and grabs the fabric in the process making it look a little bit scalloped.

The purple had a slightly different look.

Next topic: Lian’s dress set is now on Ebay…

It was a beautiful day here and I took Lian outside and we had a great photo shoot… The colors really show up nicely outside…

You can see the rest of the pictures in the Ebay listing by clicking the picture at the right side bar or click HERE.

Today was a busy day for me and I didn’t make it to your comments… but now I can go read them in bed and smile! You always make me smile.
But I bet that Beige “winner” is smiling the most! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Hooray! Beige won! I just really thought it would, it was so rich-looking. And congrats to whoever won that auction, too, as well as Marilyn for winning the blue dress, and Joy, winning the drawing!!

Oh, wigs….well, I guess you win some and lose some!! That first wig is really pretty, and, with the right outfit/doll, will be wonderful. The second wig….well, it’ll be interesting to see what you do with it!! Restyling in some way, for sure!

Lian’s outfit is beautiful, and I know Lian will be sad to give this one up to whoever wins the auction.

    1. HI Charlotte,
I think if everyone could have seen the beige one in person, we would ALL have been on the beige team. It really was one of my prettiest dresses I’ve ever made. I loved it… Samantha was asleep when I undressed her… shhh… she’ll never know! :o)
I’m going to show you what’s underneath that wig tomorrow…it’s unreal… I may send a note to the seller and just ask “are you kidding?”
      Thanks Charlotte,
      blessings, Jeanne

  2. Congrats to Joy! Boo hoo for all of us on team blue. 😆😆😆 Now I’m extra glad I went ahead and ordered those shoes.

When I search on eBay, I ALWAYS do a low to high search at some point. I really only shop for bargains.

I wonder what other dolls could wear Lian’s outfit. Anyone know?

    1. I use LD patterns and clothes for my 3 LDs, Paola Reina, Betsy McCall, Jane Tonner, Les Cheries and now my new Maru Mini Pal.

    2. HI Julia,
Oh good, another bargain hunter like me… wigs, dolls, shoes, fabric, it all needs to be on sale for me, except for that recent Liberty of London purchase… oops!
I’ll try Lian’s set on Betsy so you can see her in it… Betsy will be thrilled!
      Thanks Julia,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Yay for Joy! And now I know I should stick with my first instinct.

I had to laugh at that second wig, it reminds me of some of the hairdos you would see on the rock and roll bands of the 1960s! LOL! Just stick a guitar in her hands…

    1. HI Linda S…
Wait till I show you what’s underneath that wig… I was flabbergasted… to say the least.
      Tomorrow…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. How exciting! Can’t believe that I was chosen. Must be my lucky day! Thank you Jeanne and thank you for having a fun contest. And how wonderful that Marilyn will be the owner of the blue dress. I wonder if anyone here won the beige?
I love the outdoor photos. Really plays up the beauty of the fabric. Jacket too. Lian is going to have a fit when she has to give up this one.
Funny about wigs. I’ve gotten a few dogs and a few nice ones too. I really like the bob wig. Great color. I wonder if you might be able to resew the midline part and remove the ugly stitching? And of course cut the bangs to a shorter but not too short length? I love the color. 🙂
Thanks again Jeanne. I’m on a lucky streak today hopefully. 🙂
We’re in for another big wind event and high temperatures. Getting so old.

    1. Oh, no, on the wind and high temperatures. I want you and your family, human and doll, safe from packing for evacuation and from evacuation itself. I understand that one of the fires is finally out.

    2. HI Joy,
I don’t think the winner of the beige dress was anyone on here… I sent her a link to my blog though… we can always use more dolly lovers, can’t we?
I think “I” might have the fit when this one gets sold…It is GORGEOUS on her with that purple jacket and one of my very favorites… of course, she wears everyone very well so it doesn’t take much to make me say that. :o)
I’ll show you what’s under the wig tomorrow…I’m debating about what to do with it. It might be a lost cause…but we’ll see…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. The stitch on the jacket is called an Overcast Stitch. It will stitch several straight lines and then overcast the edge, go back to the straight lines, etc. I love using it on knits. If your sewing machine has a manual you should be able to see how to use it. If not, experiment with different stitches available on your machine to see if your machine has one.
    God Bless

    1. Thanks Marsha,
I was tired when I wrote that post and didn’t give the stitch name… bad me! Thanks for bailing me out! :o) It looks differently on different blends of wool felt… some are softer and they scrunch up more. I love playing with it on the edges of felt…
      Thank you Marsha,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Charlotte Trayer

I recognized it by an older name–the blind hem stitch! Three stitches in the hem allowance, one bite into the garment, and so on. If done carefully and well (hard to do and takes some practice) it can be just about invisible from the right side. I never thoroughly mastered it, though, and probably–truth to tell–didn’t take the time when I got the first of my machines that did that stitch (in about 1969, I think), so usually hand hemmed things

  6. Congratulations on the auctions. Beautiful dresses 👗 👗. I did find a pair of the shoes, so now I guess I’ll have to sew the dress myself as I did bid on it. Congratulations to the winner. I hope it went to someone who doesn’t sew. Weird thought!

What kind of thread and needle size did you use for the edging on the tiny jacket. It’s great.

If found some great Ninja print fabric for masks. It’s so much fun to be able to buy just a yard and make things out of it. Bought another beautiful bamboo fabric, once again the last yard. One seller wrote a note to buyers to snap it up when you see it because so many people are making masks worldwide that Japanese manufacturers are getting behind with orders. Same in China and Thailand.

    1. HI Susette,
The winner of the beige dress was a totally new bidder for me, so I don’t know anything about her. I did include a link to my blog if she’s interested…
The edge of the jacket was done with the overcast stitch (as Marsha mentioned) and it was just the regular needle I was sewing with and regular thread. The softer wool felts or even fleeces will scrunch up a little more and make more of a scalloped edge.

It seems like small pieces of fabrics are goldmines right now…I know I’m digging into my scrap bag and pulling things out all the time… :o)
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Congrats to Joy AND Marilyn! That was really fun to see how the whole auction came about and progressed, starting with the picture and then the challenge to make the dresses! I’m so happy the beige won, but I did say the blue would, since so many here were saying it was their favorite.

Those wigs! The first is really cute, and the second is ……..what? I don’t change wigs on my dolls, so have no experience in buying them.

Lian looks so pretty standing there in your beautiful yard! I just noticed that she is standing on a clear bottom stand. Where did you find that, Jeanne?

    1. HI Linda,
That 1900’s (or whatever year it was taken) picture certainly got some mileage from me this time, didn’t it? It was a lot of fun to try and maybe the next time I’ll be more successful at copying something.
I don’t know what is wrong with the wig either…wait till I show you the underside tomorrow… it’s crazy!
The stand Lian is on is actually an Ellowyn stand but my hubby cut it down so it fits just right in the Little Darlings crotch…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. So glad both the dresses sold for nice prices. Each winner will bE so happy. Congrats to the beige winners and Joy with new shoes😉Now for Lians dress….oh it is so pretty and those colors outside with the fall background make an awesome photo.
You have to make a Shutterflybook of your dresses. It is so much fun to do and you can work on it awhile…then save it..work on it again…and then when they go on sale order it🤗🤗

      1. HI Joy,
I wish making a book came to me as easily as sewing does…
        maybe some day…
        Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Kathie,
It sure would be fun to make a book… I’m actually in charge of putting together a picture/scrapbook for someone who is leaving from church. My Rebecca has made me two books so I asked for her help and she said she would. It has to be done by the 31st… All I have is the paper we are going to use. Yikes…we better get busy.
      Maybe someday I’ll do a book… :o)
      Thanks Kathie,
      blessings, Jeanne

  9. Congratulations to Joy and Marilyn for their amazing good fortune. Jeanne, you did well with both auctions and, even though I had the shoes and didn’t participate in the drawing, it was a lot of fun to watch how it progressed and it was nice that a sofa sister won the blue dress.

As for wigs, I’m just getting that bug. I just keep laughing at the way the second wig presents itself. It does look like it has possibilities in your capable hands. Another challenge for you. I’ve changed the wigs on a few of my dolls, even my Geri Uribe Claire which I never thought I’d do. I changed my LD Fallon’s because it was too curly. Bad choice on my part initially. I changed it to the same length but more wavy than curly. She likes it better. I also cut off the dry rotted hair on my rescue doll but the wig I bought that I love is kind of an auburn and she was initially blonde. I just flopped the wig on her head at the moment to see if I can get used to her new color or if I need to search for a similar wig in blonde. Oh the dilemma of keeping the girls, and me, happy.

    1. HI Barbara,
It WAS nice that the blue dress went to a sofa sister… the other one is heading to Texas… your neck of the woods! :o) A new bidder!

I’m really not sure if that wig has possibilities or not. It is really a weird looking thing underneath…I wouldn’t even really call it a wig… wait till you see…
But I do love to look for wigs for my girls… although I don’t change out Isabelle’s and Lians’, I could change up Janie and Emmie’s… and then there are all my other girls…
      Thanks Barbara,
      blessings, Jeanne

  10. Congratulations to Joy and Marilyn on their new goodies. I’m so glad the beige dress won. It was so lovely. I’d love to know if someone here won it.
The first wig is really cute and I can see it working perfectly for a Victorian/Edwardian style dress. The second one was worth a good laugh as I have no idea if it’s Isabell, Lian, or Janie under there.
Lian’s dress set is lovely and I really like the embroidery you did on her jacket. Smart idea to get it listed so quickly before she gets a notion she could keep it.

    1. HI Laura,
I don’t think the Beige dress winner was from my blog… I didn’t recognize her name but sent her a link to my blog in her box. Maybe she’ll check us all out1 :o)

That second wig REALLY might only be worth a good laugh… It’s ridiculous underneath.

I almost hated to list Lian’s dress set.. .I liked it so much I thought I could just keep her in that one forever! :o) Guess not…. :o(
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Congratulations Joy, and Marilyn for winning the auction for the blue dress. Hope we get to see a photo of one of your girls wearing it. I’m glad I didn’t win the drawing, I was in a dilemma and nearly said to leave my name out but then I realised I was unlikely to win as I never win anything and I was right. (Dreaded postage again). I’ll have to see if I can make some similar when I get the soles I ordered from Pixie Faire.
The second wig is funny! It will be interesting to see if you can actually do something with it, Jeanne. The OG dolls have rooted hair not particularly well done so I have never considered replacing it though it would be nice to do so.
I checked the auction out and I was amazed at how much higher the beige dress went for. It was lovely though.
Only 2 more days before election day. The two main parties seem to be having an auction of their own, ‘Vote for me and I will give you this’, ‘Vote for me and I will give you that’. You get the picture? The Opposition are way down in the polls so are getting desperate, lots of insults and misrepresentation. The two leaders are on TV tonight, so far Jacinda hasn’t been able to come out on top in these debates probably because she can never get a word in edgeways! Judith Collins, the Opposition Leader, has for years had the nickname ‘Crusher Collins’. she used to be Minister of Police when her party was in power and was determined to ‘Crush the Gangs’. It never happened of course.
It is unlikely that anyone will get enough votes to govern alone so we will almost certainly have a coalition so the minor parties are quite important though they do have to get 5% of the vote OR a member elected. There were three parties in this Government.

Lian looked lovely in the photos (sorry Lian I called you Ping in a previous post). I bet her outfit fetches a good price. Lol, I couldn’t leave my girls without a dress on, I always use one of Ashley’s doll dresses.
I am seriously considering putting the Victorian outfit on Trade Me. They are international these days and E Bay is fairly complicated whereas I already have a Trade Me account and am familiar with it. I will pack the clothes up and take them to the post office and find out how much international postage will be so it is accurate. I’m hoping the soles I ordered from Pixie Faire will arrive soon as I would like to make a pair of walking out boots to go with the outfit, maybe a camisole and pantaloons and also a parasol so she has a complete outfit. Just need to find the time lol.
    Take care everyone

    1. HI Anne,
I don’t know if this wig is fixable of not…but it almost feels like human hair so I’ll give it my best shot. I just don’t know what the person was thinking when they were making it… wait till tomorrow to see…
I received your pictures Anne, and will be sharing them soon. VERY pretty work… I give you an A+ and a prize and a blue ribbon and a stack of cash and call you a WINNER! :o)

If you do post your doll outfit, I hope it sells quickly and for a nice price! That purple color should grab someone’s eye…
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. And I meant to add I love the way you used the overcast stitch as an embellishment on the edge of the jacket instead of just to finish a hem. You are the BEST at embellishing!
    God Bless
    Marsha

    1. Thank you again Marsha,
You are the master at making beautiful doll clothes… I was looking through your sold outfits on Etsy the other night… You have made some VERY GORGEOUS outfits… for girls AND boys! I always love looking at your sets for them.
Did you teach yourself to knit, Marsha? I found myself looking at knitting needles in Walmart the other day and for some reason I thought of you and “think” I remember you teaching yourself how to knit… I looked at some doll sweaters for the Little Darlings and would LOVE to find a very simple pattern and see if I could make one… just dreaming mostly though…
      Thanks Marsha,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Jeanne so sweet of you to say such nice comments about my doll clothes. I feel the same about you! I tried to learn knitting some years ago but didn’t like it. I taught myself how to crochet and have made lots of hats, sweaters and shoes. I haven’t done much crochet lately because I have so many things made up. I am still sewing a lot. It is a therapy I greatly need.
        God Bless
        Marsha

  13. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, what fun we have had over the past few days!

    Congratulations to the winners.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
Well, yes, we’ll have fun… and guess what? I “ALMOST” put the names in your teapot to draw them out of… but I didn’t… just thought about it…
We have had lots of fun with this and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  14. I wrote earlier but it disappeared.
I did bid on the beige dress but was outbid before I could finish the bid. I thought I’d do the same on the blue so I would have bid before being outbid, but there my bid sat, undisturbed, while I stared at it. When the countdown reached final digit seconds, I said, “I think I’m going to win.” And then I did. I woke up this morning still happy.
Today my walker and I went for a walk in the park. I came back tired and had just time to brush my teeth before a physical therapist showed up. We did some interesting exercises involving me walking sideways while she provided resistance with a therapy band. If it had broken, she would have gone through the wall . After that I got down on the floor and back up. When she left, I thought, “I DESERVE that dress.” I do regret the butterfly pin, but I love the bow and pin at the neck of the (and everything else about it) and I think Nellie’s meet hat will go with it nicely for Easter. Many thanks, Jeanne. I hope Lian’s dress goes for what these two brought together.

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Marilyn, after that exercise, I think you deserve the dress too (laugh).

I bet Nellie is going to be waiting by the door until the package arrives.

    2. HI Marilyn,
You always make me smile and sometimes laugh out loud… today it was the part about the therapist going though the wall if the band broke! :o)
The bidder for the beige dress put in her very highest bid back on October 10th, so all she did was sit back and watch for others to catch up to her, I think! I don’t know what her high bid actually was but I guess it was one dollar more than the person in second place! :o)
I will keep my eyes open for another butterfly pin for another dress sometime… I went to Hobby Lobby when I was still working on the blue dress, looking for a pretty charm or something to use as a brooch and found nothing as pretty as that butterfly charm was. I loved it as much as everyone else did.
Keep up that hard work with your walking… I mailed off the blue dress today at the PO.
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  15. I don’t know — I may be smiling most. I tried bidding on the beige, but in the second while I was bidding, the bids passed me. Then I moved to the blue dress and figured that at least my bid would move the bidding up and make Jeanne an even happier night — and then I sat there, waiting to be outbid and wishing I’d made a higher or later bid and the time got down to single digits and I finally caught on that I was going to win. I woke up this morning just as pleased. I did really want the butterfly pin on the beige dress, but I also like the bow and pin at the neck of the blue one — I like them equally well, and I’m pleased and surprised to own one.
Congratulations to Joy on the shoes.
