American Girl Kirsten Number Four…

Thank you everyone for all your prayers and well wishes the last few days as I was a bit under the weather…(actually 2 days REALLY under the weather.) I am better now and thought it was time for a dolly post…

I can hear the cheers all the way from where you are!!! :o)

I’ve had a few American Girl Kirsten dolls in my collection… first was this original cutie…

She was a wonderful doll and she modeled LOTS of pretty dirndl’s for me.

But her vinyl had yellowed over the years and I got it in my head I should sell her and get a newer one. So I did…

This was Kirsten #2… she followed in number one’s footsteps and did a great job too…

But then one day Rebecca came home from the Goodwill and had found Kirsten #3. I was smitten, so I sold Kirsten #2.

This was Kirsten #2 on the right and Kirsten #3 on the left.

This was Kirsten #3 and what she looked like…

I think this is the only dress set I have made for her. I’m LONG overdue as I love to create things for Kirsten.

Well, today Rebecca came home and had found another Kirsten doll…she would be Kirsten #4!

Here she is standing next to Kirsten #3. I hadn’t washed her face yet, so she looks a little played with. She doesn’t have a mark on her that I can find. But her hair was a tangled mess underneath. I plan to wash and detangle it and hope it turns out well.

Their hair is the same…if you don’t count the tangles!!! :o)

Number 4 has very pretty blue eyes…

There are a few slight differences in these two dolls…Number 3 has the darker, almost black, eyelashes while number 4 has soft and almost fluttery dark brown ones.

  • They both have Pleasant Company on the back of their necks, with Number 4 having the thicker neck ties.

Number 4 definitely is the older doll of the two and has the softer vinyl legs. They can be squeezed.

They are both giving each other the once over…

I will have to see what she looks like after she visits the spa to see if Number 4 is going to replace Number 3! :o)

    Stay tuned…

    See you tomorrow,
    Blessings, Jeanne

    1. You’ve had some beautiful dolls and I’ll be very interested in how this one turns out. I think I tuned in for doll #2 since the first set of outfits is unfamiliar. You could duplicate any of them and make some buyer very happy.
Congratulations on feeling better. You’ll never take that medicine again. It’s a good reminder for us all that not all medicines are good for every patient.
Stay well and have fun cleaning your new doll. I can’t wait to see what you do with her hair.

    2. Wow, Marilyn, up already!
I have always wanted a Kirsten, Jeanne, but I guess not enough to actually buy one. I love her ethnic looking outfits that are so original and full of different patterns and colors, and even layers, all on one! I cannot imagine dressing her in anything other than Swedish clothes, which makes her appeal for me not as great as my other dolls. I like to change them up!
There must be something about Rebecca and Kirsten! Did’t she already get you a Kirsten doll, previously? I much prefer the newer dolls better, but I do see how the softer colored eyelashes are much prettier. I like Kirsten @3 a lot!

I am so glad you are feeling better, and hope it continues, so that soon you will be feeling like your old self again! I can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve for Kirsten!

      1. Hi Linda,
Yes, that’s why I don’t have Kirsten either. She’s a lovely doll, but I can’t see her in any other clothes. Well, technically that is true for my Felicity and Samantha, but not quite the same. I know my mindset is because those first five PC dolls (Samantha, Kirsten, Molly, Felicity, and Addy) had such tailored to their books collections and strong assigned personalities that I can’t see them any other way. Also new historicals didn’t debut as quickly as they do now. I think also, even before I had my own, I was very attached to Samantha’s and Felicity’s collection pieces, the dolls, and their stories. I need most dolls to be versatile. Even though I chose Civil War for my Caroline and Marie-Grace, I can see MG in Colonial and cCroline could certainly be Edwardian or even pioneer for that matter. Her hair’s a bit long, but might even work for the 1930’s where my preferred time periods end.

I remember when you went from #2 to #3. Now you have #4!! Talk about lucky!

I see what you mean about her eyelashes–the soft brown is much more realistic with blonde hair.

Can’t wait to see how her hair turns out, once you’ve given her your magic touch!! It’ll be a nice break for you from all the “nursing” work you’re doing these days!

      1. Glad you are feeling better, Jeanne. That could not have been easy to get through. Thank heavens it’s understandable as to why you felt so sick.

I can’t get over how anyone ever finds an American Girl
Doll or her clothes or her accessories at Good Will. I suppose they come and go but not often. I’ve never seen any of AMG merchandise at Good Will. Good for Rebecca!!

        1. I was thinking the same Paula. We can’t get AG here, only the Our Generation copy unless we go through Amazon and the exchange rate and postage make the cost prohibited but I never see the OG dolls at the Goodwill shops, and hardly ever on our local Auction site

    4. So glad you are feeling better, it is really bad when the nurse on duty gets sick too. Give George our best on feeling better! It is a very painful experience, it was for me. And Rebecca
knows the right medicine, finding a doll is perfect. Enjoy making her special!

    5. So glad you’re feeling better, Jeanne. What a difference in makes in one’s outlook.

I would imagine it will be with great gusto that you attend to Kirsten #4. Rebecca made a great find and getting dolls spruced up can be so therapeutic I think. Enjoy the process. I look forward to seeing what you come up with to dress her with. Your work is quite wonderful to behold.

      Blessings.

Dear Jeanne, welcome back. I am so glad that you are feeling better.

It is wonderful to have a new doll project: Kirsten versus Kirsten.

I look forward to seeing who wins (laugh).

    7. Glad you’re feeling better. How about George? Is he getting better day by day? Hope so.
How fun to spot another older Kirsten. Good job Rebecca! Can’t wait to see how she improves with your tender loving care.
My new girl is headed for CA. Can’t wait for her arrival.
And did that flooring ever show up? Not that you need another project just yet.
We’ve been having a hot spell, but it should be cooler by the weekend. Been difficult keeping the planted seeds and tomato plants damp. So fun to have a vegetable garden again after so many years without.
Don’t over do it. We want you both well and healthy.

    8. Like Paula, I’ve never found anything AG, be it doll or accessory, in a thrift store. I enjoyed the short review of Kirstens and their clothing.

I’m glad you are returning to health, Jeanne. I hope George is feeling better too.

    9. Glad you’re feeling better, Jeanne. I knew before you even showed her eyelashes that Kirsten #4 was an older doll. I’ll bet she might be a first release tan body because she looks very similar to my daughter’s first release tan body Kirsten and has a number of characteristics of my first release tan body Samantha. I guess I’ll launch into a PC/AG history lesson. LOL Those tan body dolls were made in Germany and were after Felciity’s release. she was tan due to the lower necklines of her dresses. Whereas, the 1991 Felicity (like mine and yours) have the pleated ribbon wig, the first release tan body Samanthas, Kirstens, and Mollys have a thin satin ribbon like material visible behind their ears and under their bangs. Those dolls have the super -soft, fluttery eyelashes, but less sparse than the WB dolls., soft face paint, and darker fabric with prominent white stitching. !991 Felicity has a more peachy fabric. Kirsten also appears to have the glass eyes that the early dolls had. My Samantha has those as well as Felicity. My daughter’s Felicity from 1993 doesn’t have those same glass-like quality kind of eyes. It’s like a depth is lacking to the decal. Caroline’s eyes are mesmerizing, but they also don’t have the depth of my Samantha’s and Felicity’s. I can’t explain it, but it’s there.I’ll ask a few question s to compare and date her to my 1991 Samantha and Felicity Does Kirsten have a metallic color to her eyebrows? Her eye shape appears to be more oval of the earlier dolls. She appears to have her meet dress and
l’ll assume it’s original. Where does the tag say it’s made? West Germany, Germany, or Hungary = older doll. My Samantha’s dress is from Hungary and her hang tag was doll made in Germany. Felicity had West Germany on both. Check tag on pantalettes also.
She’s also wearing her sockor. Do they feel like wool?
If I were choosing, I would keep #4 as you know I always go for the oldest issue, except in the case of Samantha. I actually had a WB one I bought on eBay to see if I liked her better than my 1991 one. I didn’t like the lighter eyes or the more olive skin tone and really didn’t care for the white muslin body. Either way, we all know whose up next for a summer dress, just in time for Mid- Summer’s Eve (St. John’s Day)
I’ve never found a single AG item at Goodwill and only have seen a few at the antique store.

    10. Laura, thank you for all of the information about Kirsten. I never thought I would have one, but one turned up on eBay and I was fortunate enough not to Spend a Fortune to win her. She came with all of her meet clothes and the apron with utensils. It started me on a quest for other items. I’m sure all of this will end up at a thrift shop because my family won’t take the time to sell it on eBay. Oh, dear. Thanks for the info. I copied it and keep it in a file of follower’s comments posted on the blog.

Glad you’re feeling better, Jeanne. Thanks for all you do for us.

    11. You do magic on AG dolls do I’m sure she will be perfect when you are done….especially the hair!
Glad you made it through that antibiotic reaction!
Rebecca sure has a knack for finding you awesome dolls. Kirsten is a favorite too.
Hope both of you are A-OK now☺️

    12. I was blown away by all of the Kirsten outfits. Most I’d never seen. Each one as lovely as the next. I don’t have a Kirsten, but if I did I would definitely be buying some of your frocks for her. Kirsten does have a sweet face and it seems befitting her heritage she should be wearing lovely dirndl outfits.

Hope you and your hubby are feeling much better these days. No grandkids so far this week so I’m trying to catch up on projects I’ve been neglecting. Finally got my haircut today. I feel like a new woman. I was supposed to get it cut before Easter, right when everything shut down. Thought our church was going to open up for in-person worship this week, but it doesn’t appear it will. I can’t quite figure out their criteria. Everything is open now and most at 75%, but not the churches and the churches seem okay with that. Not sure why that is.

    13. Oh, Jeanne, I am salivating over seeing your beautiful outfits! The vintage hankies as aprons are a sweet touch! Congrats on finding yet another Kirsten–I want Rebecca to shop for me, too, lol. I have never found an AG doll at Goodwill (I have 5 GW stores within driving distance to me that I try to visit on a rotating basis), although I once found a My Twinn at an antique shop for only $10. She was the beginning of my “big doll” phase! I have 9 My Twinn dolls, and a batch of OG, Journey Girls, Madame Alexander 18″ and a few AGs. I prefer the historical ones, but never was able to find even one Kirsten! I did just get a Mary Ellen, and love her 50s vibe!
So glad you and George are on the mend. Can’t wait to see what you make for Kirsten #4 .
