Some pretty doll dresses to show you… from Sissy!

Thank you to the new buyer of Navi’s dress set. I know many of you woke up to my post about her dress being listed on Ebay, but when you went there it was already sold. I listed it at 8:30 Wednesday night and it sold at 4:00 Thursday morning. So I’m guessing many of you never even had a chance to bid on it, even if you wanted to. Sorry about that. My life has been too crazy lately to have given you a date and then told you when it was going to be available. I didn’t know myself when it would go on. Just look at it this way… there will always be “another” pretty dress! At least I hope so! It’s what I love to do and hope I can do it for many more years.

Susette gave me the little chairs set my animal friends were sitting in and she found the buyer had another set listed on Ebay. I thought I’d share that auction in case you were “needing” one! :o)

Mini Bamboo Table and Chairs set

Look what else I spotted on Ebay… it’s just like the one I sold with Navi’s set…

Tea Party Set

I also received some fun pictures from Sissy. (one of my very first subscribers!) She said I could use them whenever I needed them! Well, Sissy, I need them today as my day was not my own. I went in my sewing room just for a short time to get Navi’s dress set packed up and on its way to some new little girl! That was my only time in there. :o)

Sissy’s first 2 pictures are of Helen Kish’s Tiny Riley in a hand sewn hankie dress. She makes a lot of hankie dresses and they are all cuter than the one before!

Then, a Liberty Tana Lawn fabric (SWOON) dress with hankie pinafore on 12” Olivia, by Helen Kish.

This Dianna Effner Little Darling doll dress won second prize in the Fashion Doll Runway at the Modern Doll Collectors convention last year. It’s made from a Liberty Tana Lawn fabric as well. Way to go Sissy! Thank you so much for sending me your pictures… Keep them coming!

Oh good…she did… here are some more!

This is 16″ Mae. She’s a My Meadow Doll and is absolutely adorable in her Valentine dress! Well Done Sissy!

Well, Valentine’s day is 2 weeks from today! I was going to show some of my handiwork, but I think I’ll wait and do it another day… I’m trying to get to bed earlier! (It’s hard when I have SO MANY DOLL DRESSES I WANT TO MAKE!) :o)

Enjoy the pictures from today,
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Sissy, I love your dresses! They are so cute. I think my favorite is the Valentine one.

I do love hankies, but am so reluctant to cut into mine, because I use them as hankies!! I even have some that were bought for the express purpose of cutting into and doing this, but still haven’t worked up the nerve.

Jeanne, I’ve met Sissy–she was out here in the Seattle area a number of years ago, visiting family, and we had lunch together. She showed me a doll wearing one of her creations, so I got to see how exquisitely made they are!!

    1. Thank you, Charlotte, I remember our lunch very well, and loved meeting you. I don’t get to Seattle anymore, my grandgirls (now aged 20 and 22) have moved out, and my son and his wife hav downsized into a smaller place. He did bring them here in July for my 80th birthday, though!

Thank You, Sissy! And congrats on your 80th!! I have a few years to go yet (just turned 74).

My goodness, hard to believe the girls are in their 20s already! Time does fly!!

  2. Oh, those dresses are just the most darling things I have seen in awhile! I love vintage hankies, it certainly is a lost art nowadays, and I was wondering how big the are in order to make those darling little aprons. I remember getting hankies in my birthday cards when small, and still have a few, but nothing like these hankies! Well, done, Sissy!

I love them all, but absolutely LOVE the Valentine outfit!

    1. Thank you, Linda. As for the size of the hankies are fine for the 10″ dolls. Mae is 16″ so I had to use bought trim on her ruffles, the 10″ and 12″ hankies don’t have enough edge left for the ruffles after you cut the skirt and top of the hankie.

  3. Ten Ping is glad I’m an early bird as she will now have a tea set to go with her Western-style Valentines Day dress I made for her a couple of years ago. Thanks, Jeanne, for finding the set on eBay. I had checked but hadn’t found one.

The handkerchief dresses are darling. I haven’t used one yet as I’m not sure how to gather the fabric in enough so both motifs will show on the edges without too much bulk. My mother always used hankies but I grew up with tissues. All of the dolls are so cute and each on so different. Thanks so much for sharing.

Dear Jeanne, we are all delighted that you beautiful dress sold so quickly. I hope that the new Mama will send you a photo of her little sweetie wearing it so you can share it with us.

Sissy’s girls are adorable. Tiny Riley is so pretty in her little dress.

I echo Susette, I remember hankies growing up but I used tissues. I stuffed one in all my jacket pockets, just in case, and I always ended up needing one.

  5. Sissy’s hankie dresses are so creative. I love seeing the variety of ways to use the vintage. I have quite a hankie collection and like Charlotte, hesitate to use them. From the store bought as gifts to those hand edged with tatting, I love them all. I really do love how Sissy can create such artistic things from a decorated square. I wonder how she is still able to find hankies anymore as they are harder and harder to find? Thanks so much for sharing the great photos Jeanne.
Congrats to Susette for snagging the tea set. It is such a cute one.
Anyone watching the game Sunday? Should be a good one. 🙂

      1. I used to be able to pick them up for a quarter at garage sales and thrift stores, but now never see them there. The Ebay dealers must grab them first. 🙂

  6. My goodness I don’t think I have EVER seen anything as cute as those pinafores Sissy. I’ve made several hankies dresses but nothing holds a candle to those. The way you design them is brilliant!
We are in a warm place and visited a garden yesterday so will send you some pics Jeanne. Congrats again on selling the heavenly pink ensemble so fast!

  7. First, before I forget, you can go to embroiderthis.com and you will find several pretty handkerchiefs ready to embroider – or use for pretty doll clothes. They have some already embroidered, but I have so many embroidery designs I’m going to buy the blanks and include some of my own embroidery. I have no hankies at all. I wish I knew what happened to the ones my grandmother had. She had some really lovely ones. My sister and I gave her one for her birthday one year that had violets all over. Would love to have that one.

Oh, Susette! I just love those beautiful little dresses. So lovely and creative. The edging on the handkerchiefs makes for some wonderful sleeve treatment. Mae is one of my favorite Meadow dolls. She looks so cute in her Valentine’s dress. So you’re the one who now owns one of the adorable tea sets. Congratulations! I have one for my dolls but it’s not polka dot. It has flowers on it.

I’m looking forward to seeing Kathie’s pictures of the garden she visited. I’m trying to compile a list of where everyone lives but I don’t have Kathie on it yet. Since she is totally enjoying the warmth in Florida (I think that’s where she said she was) I’m assuming she lives somewhere where it’s cold with snow. Living in a place that’s warm, I wouldn’t mind spending a few weeks in a place with real winter. We still can’t get a hard freeze here even though we’ve come close. I guess I should stop fussing and realize that the only time it’s comfortable living in southeast Texas is during the winter. At least in a year where there’s not constant rain. It’s actually been very pleasant here at times. Very spring like. But we are just going into February and still have potential for some winter but that can mean ice storms. We’ve had some wickedly cold blue northers come through here in May. One year during our church Spring Fling we had one. Even though it was sunny the north wind was vicious and many people closed down their booths and left and not too many people showed up.

I’m finishing up Sofie’s Valentine ensemble today and then I will start an Easter dress for my Paola Reina Cleo. Looking forward to doing that one. I love the pattern and it speaks to a lot of embellishment.

    1. Sissy made the lovely dresses. I was referring to a dress I made for Ten Ping for Valentines Day. Maybe I’ll send a picture in with the tea set for that day.

      1. Thanks for straightening me out on who made the handkerchief dresses. I definitely want to see the pictures of Ten Ping in her Valentine’s setting.

  8. Oops! Sorry Sissy, I know you made those wonderful little dresses. I was going back and forth through the replies while I was typing and saw Suzette’s comment about handkerchiefs on ebay and typed the wrong name. Definitely want to give you create for your adorable dresses!

  9. What adorable dresses and pinafores, Sissy. i just love pinafores on little girls and dolls as well. What wonderful work with hankies. The Valenitine’s one is definitely my favorite. Need to check for a hanky like that. Our one antique store has a booth where the lady specializes in vintage tablecloths, napkins, hankies etc. The hankies are always starched and so prettily displayed.
My grandmother always carried a hanky in her purse and when relatives visited from Germany they would bring them as a gift. I still have one I received with an embroidered pink oval of flowers around a cursive L.

  10. Thank you so much, dear ladies, for all you kind words about my hankie pinafores. I started making dresses from hankies many years ago when a friend send me one from the 30’s and asked me to make similar ones for her dolls. I can’t remember when I branched out into pinafores, but I know the idea came from the ones my great-aunt made for me when I was little. Talk about starched organdy, LOL! If you go to my picture trail album (link below) you will see a lot of the hankie dresses I made over the years.
    Thank y’all again, so much.

  11. Hi Jeanne,
I’m hoping my comment shows up, I’ve noticed my comments on 2 posts never appeared useing my pc. Im on my tablet today lets see if this works, fingers crossed.
I’m so happy your set for Navi sold so quickly. It certainly is adorable, love the pink tea set… so cute. Sissy your dresses and hanky pinafores are beautiful! I love what you made for your Mae, red looks good on her.
Joy, I planned on tuning into the game for the half time show unfortunately I lost track of the time and missed it : (
    Hugs
    Ingrid
