I think it’s time to make some doll dresses…

My sisters have gone back home so I’m trying to get my routine back and that hopefully means getting back in my sewing room and creating again.

I don’t have anything to show you today, but hopefully soon…I’ll show some other reader’s pictures while I’m working on something.

This has been one of the longest times of me not sewing; probably since 1990, when I was pregnant with Rebecca.

My foot is better…a few days ago I was finally able to walk without limping. The last 2 days I’ve had more movement in my foot and less swelling since December 8th, when I fell.

My wrist is still sore when I move it and I’d have to say my thumb is what bothers me the most. I’m thinking something happened when I caught myself with my hand, and it’s a feeling like arthritis…ugh!! Maybe I just need to do some sewing!! I’m hoping I can do the hand stitching!

My mom is not doing very well at all. She is so weak from not eating and drinking and keeps falling! We spent long days with her and realized one morning she must have had a stroke that made her right hand pretty much useless.

In the middle of everything that was going on, my hubby started having some issues with his health. The surgeon that removed his bladder, wanted us to come to St. Louis for an appointment and a CT Scan. So we made a quick trip and THANK THE LORD, the scan showed nothing abnormal. It’s such a relief to “breathe” after waiting for such an important test!! We are VERY grateful!!

So that’s why I’ve been away these last few weeks…I just had too much on my plate and didn’t have it in me to work on more than one issue at a time.

Tomorrow I will do my best to open the door to my sewing room and see if my “girls” have missed me. I hope they have!

Thank you for all your comments and chattering between each other while I was gone. You ladies are just the best and friendliest readers anyone could ever hope to have. I am so glad you stuck around… sewing will commence very soon.

Blessings, Jeanne

Welcome back, Jeanne! So glad to see a new blog entry! I just went to the last one and got caught up on the reading there. I want to thank everyone again for your prayers for Ron. He actually had a pretty good Sunday and Monday–church Sunday, out for lunch today (Monday–okay, it’s 1 a.m. but I haven’t been to bed yet so it’s still Monday in my mind! LOL)

I’m glad your foot is doing better, Jeanne; I think, though, that you need to have a hand specialist look at your thumb. It could be you have a little bone that’s broken in there, or something else out of place. As I found out with my foot, sometimes it takes a specialist to really “See” what has happened in those areas with lots of small bones! Don’t wait too long, either–the sooner they x-ray or scan it, the sooner whatever-it-is can be fixed and you can regain use of your thumb!

I’m sorry to hear about your mom; that is so hard to watch, I well know. It sounds like she should either be in a wheelchair or in bed now, and not trusted to get up and walk on her own any more–all those falls could become dangerous. You might have a doctor look at her, too, to make a definitive diagnosis and perhaps some recommendations as to care.

Oh, my, what good news about George’s scan!! Thank you, Lord!! After all you are going thru with your own health issues and now your mom, that was the One More Thing you did not need!!

I don’t know if you all have heard, but we’ve had snow in the Seattle area, starting last night. Where I live (just north of Seattle) we’ve only had a couple of inches (although we are getting a little more now), but some areas got as much as 8″ or so! Okay, you mid-westerners and easterners can laugh, but out here, a few inches of snow is a very big deal because (1) we don’t get it very often so people forget how to drive in it and (2) we have some incredibly long, steep hills, which are virtually impossible to drive either up OR down without major problems! Tonight, on the 520 bridge across Lake Washington, there were 30 separate accidents in a short space of time–to the point where they had to just close the entire bridge! The bridge apparently had become very icy, and, as I said, people out here just don’t know how to drive in/on it!

I think I still need to send you pictures of the latest LD swap–both sent and received. Will try to get that done in the next couple of days. I need to head off to bed here shortly.

  2. Oh Jeanne, how WONDERFUL it was to open my email this morning and see the blog! Hallelujah! Just what we need, and you must know that you have been missed very, very much!

My goodness, I sure do hope things get better from here on out with your injuries! Yes, I would also go to see a hand specialist to see what could be done about your thumb. That’s your right hand, isn’t it, the hand you sew with? Of all things, I have developed what they call trigger finger on my left hand, the wedding ring finger, and will have to do something about that. It doesn’t straighten out unless I manually pull it out, and it hurts when I do that, so fun times here! A hand specialist will have to fix it. Of course, I’m left handed too, to make it more fun! I certainly feel for you.

And George! Thank the good lord he is fine and things turned out well for him. You didn’t really need that on top of everything else!

I do think your mother should also be in a wheelchair. I guess it is hard to see her go downhill and not really be able to do much about it. The love and compassion you and your sisters and brother have for her is extremely touching and I’m sure she feels that too. Why do all these things happen to such good people?

So getting back to sewing! It is so encouraging to hear you say that! I would send some pictures to you, but don’t want to overload you with pictures, since you have some from others, and it takes time to do that. We all want to see you sew again! Any ideas on what you will be making? Valentines Day is just around the corner!

  3. What a welcome surprise this morning! I hope everything will continue to improve. I’m with others on seeing a hand specialist. There’s a reason for the designation “specialist.” Thanks for keeping us all connected through the tough times. We’re all with you ❤️🙏❤️. Thanks also to the followers who have commented and sent pictures and to you for taking the time to post them.

  4. What a wonderful morning! Was getting very worried that St. Louis was bad news. So happy to hear it wasn’t. Count me with those pushing for an appointment with a specialist. It is not just a hand, but your living too.
So sorry to hear that mom isn’t improving. The swallowing becomes so difficult. My uncle who died just a couple of months ago at 92, had the swallowing problem too, and he did not have dementia. They began pulverizing his food and that seemed to help. Know your mom has the best care and a loving daughter nearby too. Hoping that a return to normal at home will lift your spirits and make that creativity flow. 🙂
Looking forward to seeing photos from everyone. That Renwal is so fun as well all of the dollies out there.

  5. Good morning Jeanne, such good news about your husband. I’m thinking of your dear mama. Glad all of you can spend nice time with her.

Take your time healing. I’m sure you will be able to tell your own limits once you open your sewing room door.
    Take care and keep warm!

  6. Welcome back!!!

One of the things I dislike most about Microsoft Edge is that it doesn’t allow you to control your e-mail much so even the mail from my contacts goes into my junk mail. I’ve checked and people say there is no way to fix this. So, I have to go through my junk mail several times a day. I was doing that this morning when I came upon a message from I Dream of Jeanne Marie. To say I was very excited is an understatement. I hurried to finish my task and go to the blog. Jeanne is back and getting ready to sew!!!

While being excited to see you back, I was sorry to hear about your mom’s decline and the fact that your thumb is still giving you trouble. Add my name to the list of those who hope you seek a specialist. Not having the total use of your thumb is not an option for you. Hopefully you can have the problem fixed and really get back to normal.

I breathed a sigh of relief over George’s test results. I was not on the blog while he was going though his surgery and recovery, but I have read some of the past blogs where you mentioned it so I know this could have been a bad situation indeed. We, your faithful followers, couldn’t pray for good results because we didn’t know, but we probably have some rollovers from praying for the well being of others so the Lord applied them to your family. He always knows where prayers are needed.

I’ve been spending the days since the holidays reworking my sewing room. Ambitiously rooting out corners and making myself find places for things that have been sitting out for awhile. It’s actually looking pretty good. But it is small, and I do a lot of different things, so I need to maximize the space however I can – lots of cabinets and shelves and plastic boxes on floor dollies. I really should move my sleeping quarters in there and use my master bedroom for my sewing. It’s much bigger. But it has four marvelous windows (two of them in the corner) and, while it would be great for creating, I’m just not willing to give them up as bedroom décor goes. They tend to maximize window treatments beautifully.

I haven’t been sewing since I made the Christmas dresses but, since I’ve now finally found the top of my cutting table once again, I have three projects lined up. A jumper/top/coat set for Sofie, a sleeveless romper and jacket for Lolla, and a pretty blue Easter dress for my Paola Reina Cleo. After that I will need to work in some projects to sell at our church Fall Festival in October. I’m trying to find things that will sell well, but unfortunately it seems most people come to look rather than buy. It might be that even in October the day can be miserably hot. Unfortunately from October through April the weather here is totally unpredictable and from May through September while it is predictable – hot and humid – no one wants to plan anything outdoors if they can help it.

I hope things will be getting better for you and your family, Jeanne. I will continue prayers for you all (or as we say here in Texas y’all).

  7. Welcome back! Such good news about George and I’m so sorry your Mom is failing. That is so hard to watch when nothing seems to help.
Maybe it is time to see someone specializing in hands. If it is arthritis sometimes a shot will help.
Hope sewing again will make things seem more normal too.
I did have some doll activity …the 3rd Virtual Doll convention happened and since it was filmed in both London and Paris I saw places and Museums that I would not have seen otherwise. My vicarious European vacation :0) Hankie dress lesson that was fun and many classes.
Hope the rest of the week will be good

Dear Jeanne, we are so glad you are back and heading to the sewing room. I am sure that your girls missed you but probably not so much as we did (laugh).

I am sorry to learn of your mother’s ill health. I am glad you had your sisters around for comfort. I am glad your husband is doing better and you are doing better.

    Prayers continue.

  9. It’s so very good to have you back and know you’ll be sewing, too!! You were greatly missed!!! Glad George’s test came out great and you’re healing well. Yes, get the thumb checked out. Sorry about all going on with your mom. I’ll keep praying. Getting your ‘creative self’ going again will be very good for you health wise, too. Soooo glad you are back!!! Lots of Love and Big hugs, Ali

  10. Nice to have you back even if slowly. You’ve had a great deal on your plate this last month.

Must have been a worry about your husband and go new from the Specialists. Hope he is feeling better. Super news that your healing but not the pain in your hand. I fell two years ago and smacked my wrist/hand on the metal framing that the sliding goes back and forth on. I hit hard and ended up in the ER. They did test and told me after a few days to see a Hand Specialists. I was lucky to find a great one and he had the tests done again once the swelling went down. A follow up appointment he suggested shots and I had to go back two or three more times. It feels much better but due to age and osteoporosis it never healed perfectly but the pain is barely there and only bothers me if I move the wrists and pinky finger in a certain direction. It might be good to get an appointment with a hand specialists.

So sorry to hear about you Mom. I a fall issue due to medical reasons, though not Vertigo, and I am suppose to use a cane at all time. Maybe you need to talk to the staff and tell them your mother isn’t allowed out of bed without assistance. Even then she should have a wheelchair. I’ve been in and out of the hospital and to rehab and each time there is fall alert on my wall chart and I am not allowed out of the bed with a CNA. The beds are our hospital have a setting on them and if I darn stand up and put my feet on the ground the staff is alerted. A fall at her age is so dangerous. Not eating is never a good thing and I hope they are making sure she is getting feed even if her food has to be puree or those bottles of drinks like Ensure.

    Blessings, Sandra
