I’ve been searching in my email for pictures ladies have sent me a while back and I FOUND them! Yay! We all to see what everyone else is doing so here’s your chance to find out what’s happening from Seattle to St. Louis and beyond!!!
Charlotte’s been working on some gifts for her great-nephew and they are so sweet…Rurik is one blessed little guy…
Charlotte said:
This first picture has all of the gifts I made for Rurik.
(If you click on the pictures they will enlarge)
The second picture shows the bib and receiving blanket I made–I used 100% cotton interlock; the bib is an old McCall’s pattern, the blanket is simply a square of interlock, hemmed. Since interlock is usually pretty wide, I use leftovers for a bib, gown, etc. when I make blankets. Rurik’s daddy is career army, so I figured the camouflage trucks would be fun!
The first picture is a close-up of the label I put inside Rurik’s blanket. I would have liked to use one on each item, the company no longer is in business, so I can’t buy more, and my supply is running low! It says “Made especially for baby by” and my name.
The second picture shows the blanket and it’s lining. The fox print is double-gauze, the lining is flannel, coordinates I bought recently at JoAnn’s.
The first one is of the romper I made. I used an out-of-print McCall’s pattern (let me know if you think people want the numbers) and some 100% cotton interlock print I had on hand. What little boy doesn’t like dinosaurs?! I chose the view with cap sleeves, to protect his little shoulders from the sun.
The second picture shows how I packaged everything. It was fun to coordinate the wrappings!
Tonight I got a picture of our new great-nephew, actually Wearing the romper I made him, and lying on the one blanket I made for him, too!
Okay…so that’s what Charlotte has been up too… she’s been busy, hasn’t she? Thanks Charlotte! Those were LOVELY gifts!
Now let’s move to St. Louis where Linda is showing off her doll room… I didn’t realize she had one… hence the pictures!!! :o)
Here’s what Linda had to say about her pictures…
The first one is , or was, my daughter, Jennifer’s room. The other was my son, Brian”s room. They sure can’t move home again! These are just the corners of the rooms.
The next is the newer scene of the 40″s girls. laura said something about looking at what I had sent last year, and I thought, it was almost the same, so I changed it up. I found sticks in the yard, and put small marshmallows on them, since I didn’t have enough AG ones. It worked!
Thanks Linda…as always…so much fun to scrutinize your pictures and see what all you have on display! :o)
Now, racing back across the country to California, Susette has a tip for those who chimed in a while back about the patterns being multi sized. Here is how Susette solved that problem…
She said:
Someone mentioned the other day about patterns having so many sizes in one envelope. Simplicity 8180 has three and four sizes for both men and boys in the same envelope for shirts, shorts and a tie! After finally finding all the pieces, this is how I use cuts like clipping curves and fold back and under so I’ll be able to use the pattern again as Krish grows.
We will be visiting the NASA Exhibit in Houston where his granddad was assigned for three years in the late 1970s, so the fabric should be a hit. Good for school too. The pattern has “3 Hour” on the front of the envelope. That gave me a good laugh as I’m much slower, I’m sure. I should keep track of the actual time and not the fooling around time. Already took half an hour to separate the pattern pieces!
Thanks Susette…I’m sure someone will thank you for this tip! The fabric is sure to be a hit!!!
Across to Omaha, Nebraska, let’s see what Kathie is up to…
She wrote me the sweetest email and titled it Kissing Cousins! If you didn’t remember, she bought my Callie Rose to be best friends with her Lilly… (I mean cousins, not just friends!)
This is what Kathie had to say…
I think Callie Rose and Lilly will be best friends or at least kissing cousins. They look so sweet together!
Callie Rose could be in pain because I had to heat her feet and shoes to get them on her ! lol
The yellow dress I won at a doll show.. it is meant for a Bleuette but she squeezed into it.
Speaking of Bleuette… how come you don’t sew for her? She has a huge following. Maybe the clothes and patterns are too simple… the patterns were designed for little French girls to learn how to sew.
The white dress is a Boneka.. from the UFDC Convention.
Thanks Kathie… they look very happy together. Thank you for giving Callie Rose such a nice home!
Well, speaking of the Bleuette dolls, I DID make an outfit for a dear friend once… She sent me her doll and a picture of the outfit she wanted. It was called Brittany…and this is what I came up with. I was pretty proud of myself…the jacket and boots were made from wool felt. It looked pretty much like the picture.
Well, I guess that’s enough traveling for today…
Hope something you saw today made you smile…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a nice surprise to see my pictures in your blog tonight! I’m glad you waited to post them until Ashleigh sent me a picture of Rurik (yes, that’s his name–he will forever be spelling it for people….) wearing the romper. I was beginning to think that I would never see him in it–but he finally grew big enough to wear it. He was born April 10th.
I have to add, I originally sent the other pictures to Jeanne in several emails, which is why there is more than one “first picture” and “second picture” I should have just numbered them sequentially, regardless of the emails I sent them in!!
Linda, I love your doll rooms and your displays; lucky you, to have all of Molly’s kitchen furniture!! Molly was my first AG, and I love all the things you could get for her. I have some of her clothes/shoes, and I do have her trunk, but that’s it. Of course, she has lots of non-AG clothes and accessories that I’ve either made or bought!!
Susette, that’s a good way to handle multi-sized patterns. Thanks for the clear pictures–very helpful.
Yes, Kathie, I do think Callie Rose and Lilly are fast on their way to being best friends!! I would imagine they will raise some kinds of mischief at times, though!! 😀
Jeanne, the Bluette outfit is lovely–lots of nice details.
What a fun post this was!!
Dear Charlotte, Rurik is so sweet. What does his name mean? Did you suggest the name for him?
Thank you. We hope some day we’ll get to meet him! (They live in NC and we are in the Seattle area.)
No, sorry, I didn’t suggest the name. I think (if I remember correctly) it’s a Russian/Old Norse name, and was the name of a Viking prince, and founder of the Rurik dynasty. (according to Wikipedia and Britannica) I believe it means “new fortification” or “new city”, from what I’ve been able to find.
His mom and dad both did a lot of studies in Russian language in college and are very interested in that sort of thing, and his dad (my nephew) is half Swedish. So, it fits with their backgrounds, somewhat, anyway!
Hi Charlotte,
Thank you for sending your pictures and it did work out perfectly that you received the picture of Rurik wearing his little romper.
It was a post with something for everyone… sewers, non sewers, collectors, and some prop fun!!
Thanks Charlotte
Blessings, Jeanne
Nice trip, Jeanne, going from one end of the country to the other! You have some talented ladies reading your blog, but not me!
Charlotte, those sweet baby bibs and blankets are SO nice to have! You did a wonderful job and I love all the cute little prints, just perfect for a baby boy! I absolutely love the picture of little Rurik wearing the dinosaur romper! He is such a cutie pie! Where did they find that name??
I too have a few of those personalized labels, but mine only say “Made with love by Grandma”, so I have only a few people to us them for!! 🙂 I believe the last item I used them with was a christening gown and jacket!
At the rate I’m going, I probably will never be able to use Susette’s tip, but if you do sew, that’s a winner! She always has such good ideas!
It was so nice to see Callie Rose again, and with her kissing cousin, Lilly! Kathie certainly knows how to dress a doll, and they are so cute together. I’m so glad they get along so well!
That is a really wonderful outfit you made for the Bluette doll. I can’t get over the impeccable detail of the outfit, and all the embellishments that make it one of a kind! The hat and boots are wonderful! Love that picture at the end too! Which one is the doll???
Dear Linda, I love your doll rooms and especially your little Alexander dolls. I collect them also.
Hi Linda,
Thank you for YOUR pictures today too! It’s always fun to share lots of different things from lots of different readers.
I think I might have the picture of the Brittany pattern somewhere, but I may have sent it back with the doll.
I enjoyed seeing your dolly room…I dont think you’ve ever shared that before…have you? I thought your dolls were just posted all over your house…but I knew you had a wonderful closet with lots of things in it.
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
after 78 days away from home, computer, the blog, and my ag’s, i’m home, typing with one finger and catching up on Jeanne’s posts. i need a slideshow of the summer dresses.
Welcome back, Marilyn! We missed you!
Welcome back for sure! We’ve certainly missed your wise and knowledgeable comments and presence on the blog. So glad you’re better now. Enjoy the blog now on a daily basis.
Dearest Marilyn,
OH, OH, OH… you’re BACK!!! I’m SO thrilled… this has made my day and it’s only 11:30!!! We have MISSED you so much!!! I have missed your sense of humor, your wonderful comments, your research for us all, your thoughts on so many things… It may have only been 78 days that you’ve been MIA, but it seems much longer to me!
Welcome back and please take it easy…as I’m sure you are!
I just might have to get a slideshow together in honor of your return.
We love you bunches!
From Jeanne and the rest of my clan!
Thank you Jeanne and girls for sharing your pictures with us! I always love seeing other doll collectors/enthusiasts and what dolls they may have and how they store or display their dolly groups. Also, I love seeing the sewing projects many of you work on. Makes me wish I could sew too!
Linda, your cabinet book shelf is really neat. Large enough to display scenes. It’s a perfect set up for a bedroom.
Jeanne, what a sweet and pretty picture of you and your friend’s doll. The whole outfit you made the Bleuette doll is quite elaborate. Very eloquent too.
By the way, you look so pretty in red.
Have a nice day, everyone.
Hi Paula,
I love seeing everyone’s pictures too. It’s fun when I get to share things from everyone else and not just what I’m making it doing.
By the way, red is one of my favorite colors.
Thank you,
Blessings, Jeanne
Wow, where to start today. So many wonderful things to view.
Charlotte’s gifts for great nephew are perfect. I’m sure they will be greatly appreciated especially as they came from such a kind relative. Little Rurik is one cutie for sure.
I really like how Linda has tastefully included some of her dolls into different rooms. Not overwhelming but adds a fun element. Too bad we don’t have any spare bedrooms. Our two extras, one office and the other which has become the overstuffed doll room are not enough. Which reminds me, I need to clear off the bed in the doll room and find a place to stash everyone until expected guests leave town.
I’m going to try Susette’s pattern technique next time I’m using an all in one pattern. Looks promising. 🙂 Krish is going to love that shirt!
Kathie’s girls are very stylish. And Callie Rose is quickly learning the woes of fashion with the shoe stretch. 🙂
The Bleuette outfit is wonderful. Maybe one similar would be a fun winter outfit for any of the girls for which you sew. Looks like a lot of work though.
And a big welcome back for Marilyn! Sounds like a bummer summer, but fall will be swell! Missed your wonderful comments.
Thanks Joy,
I’m so glad you enjoyed the various pictures shown today. I enjoyed sharing them with everyone.
If anyone needs a doll room, it’s you…maybe you can add on! *wink* *wink*
Yes, it is wonderful to have Marilyn back! Somehow my blog just feels better with her back!!!
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a great gift for Rurik, especially the one with the camouflage road graders! What a handsome little boy to receive the most thoughtful gift.
Linda’s doll rooms are amazing! What a wonderful collection! It takes a while to realize how much detail is in her scenes and the room decorations. Thanks for sharing the wonderful pictures. Kathie’s dolls are perfect together. She went to the right home.
Jeanne, that outfit for the Bluette is amazing! What a lot of work and the perfect fabrics for each item. Your friend is very fortunate to be a friend of yours! Did you have any kind of pattern for any of the pieces, Expert?
It’s a good thing I did my pattern trick as I needed it sooner than I expected. Krish’s mother had said he was wearing a size 6. The patterns don’t compute that way, but halfway through, the shirt started to look pretty small! So I cut out another one by folding under at the second set of pattern markings. I should have looked at the height instead of trying to estimate the size but I’d never even noticed the height specification before. That 1/2″ on each pattern piece makes a HUGE difference in the shirt, 2″ in the waist alone and an inch in the shoulder on each side. I’ll try to convince his Mom to keep the little shirt for a grandchild someday, ha, ha. Thanks to everyone for sharing pictures.
Hi Susette,
I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures today. Thank you for YOUR contribution. It’s always fun to do a post with s variety of subjects…
I honestly don’t remember if I ha a pattern for the Brittany doll outfit. I haven’t looked in my patterns to see if I still have the picture. I just remember a color photograph of the outfit, showing what colors everything should made from. I do remember it was quite an undertaking…and I was nervous to show it to her when I was finished. I do remember she liked it.
Maybe Krish needs a “little brother!” :o)
Thanks Susette,
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, what wonderful photos from the blog family!
I love Charlotte’s baby things. The little guy is so cute.
It looks like Callie Rose is very happy with her new cousin and her new home.
Yesterday I went to see the Downton Abbey movie. I loved it. I had not seen any of the TV episodes so it was all new to me. I will definitely get it when it come out on DVD.
Hi Dorothy,
Glad you enjoyed todays pictures! I did too…
It sounds like the Downton Abbey movie will be a big hit. I’m glad you enjoyed it… I’ve watched a few of the episodes but not on any order, so I’m not sure what was going on and who was who…
Thanks Dorothy,
Blessings ,Jeanne
Thanks for the National Tour!
Charlotte, What fun pictures….and that baby…what a “ real doll” Your items are so practical! They will get worn and appreciated!
Linda you have such a talent for display! The way you have them displayed is so nice, not crowded as I tend to do.
Susette, that is such a smart way to use all the sizes on the pattern. So already you can use the larger size🤗
Marilyn, welcome back! Hope everything will be back to normal soon😌
Jeanne, That Bleuette outfit is beautiful! I have some copies of the original patterns if you want them☺️
Yes, Callie Rose seems happy…she’s going to need a warmer outfit soon though…it was 45degrees here this morning. Yikes!
Hi Kathie,
I think that one Brittany outfit did me in…I don’t think I need the pattern. :o) I might even have the pictures of it around here. I should look.
45 degrees??? You better make that girl a coat!! Its supposed to start cooling off around here tomorrow. It sure was hot and humid here today!
Thank you Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
What wonderful gifts you made for your great-nephew, Charlotte. Those will be so special to use and then put away for his own child someday. He is just adorable!
Linda, you doll rooms are wonderful. So nice to have a place to set up things and keep them on display. I always enjoy seeing what you have out at a particular time. Your autumn bonfire scene is so cute.
Susette, what a great idea on how to use a pattern again and again. I always think the time listed means if you can cut out and sew at a breakneck pace. You probably have to cut with a rotary blade as opposed to scissors.
What sweet little cousins you have there, Kathie Their dresses are lovely. I, too, like to place certain dolls together. My renamed Caroline and MG dolls are cousind, along with my re-wigged Nellie. Nellie is mine time traveler though, so she’s also Samantha’s friend or stands alone in pioneer days or the 1930’s.
What a sweet outfit for that Bluette doll, Jeanne. She looks like a different version of Madeline.
Thank you Laura,
I was happy everyone enjoyed todays pictures. I was fun to see what Charlotte HAD made, what Susette WAS making, how Linda had her doll room set up, how Kathie showed her girls loving on each other and HOW WONDERFUL TO HAVE MARILYN IN THE MIX OF IT ALL!
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
