Thank you, everyone, for all the wonderful names you thought of for Kathie’s Kestner doll. Now she’s got the hard task of choosing a name from the ones suggested or coming up with something else that she thinks fits her girl. Thank you again. Once I saw Kathie answering a few comments, I decided to let her, and I decided to sew!! :o)
You’ll never guess who gets to model my first Fall dress? Well, 3 guesses and I bet you might figure her out!!!
Actually this time I picked the fabric first and was thinking “out loud”…hmmm, I wonder who would lokk good in this? And the next thing I know, Addy wiggles from the back row of the dolly shelf and appeared on my cutting table. All smiles and looked at me with those dark brown eyes of hers. :o) (Really… that’s how it happened!!!) :o)
It is a pretty gold, green and burgundy plaid homespun cotton fabric. I’m trimming it in black. There is still plenty to do, but most of the time consuming parts are finished….except for sewing on the snaps! :o)
I used a piece of that pique fabric that has some texture to it. I looked in several books of mine and even though a black collar might have looked wonderful on this plaid, most Civil War dresses had small white collars.
It’s going to get “fancier”… just wait! :o)
I’ll work on it some more tomorrow and see how much I can get accomplished.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
That is such a good color combo on Addy! Can’t wait to see what you will do with it, Jeanne!
By the way, I read the comments and, regarding that tiny doll that Kathie’s Kestner was holding, as I recall it was sold by Daisy Kingdom, probably back in the 90s. Made a cute little accessory for somewhat larger dolls, too. I do miss Daisy Kingdom; they had a wonderful store in Portland, as well as beautiful fabrics, their own pattern grouping thru Simplicit”, and even produced some vinyl dolls (one was named Daisy, can’t recall the other ones) and even some lovely doll clothes! If you google “Daisy Kingdom dolls” you will see some pictures!
I loved Daisy Kingdom too and my daughter had several outfits made with those patterns and fabric. I still have the patterns and some of the fabric. It might appear sometime in something I make and post. Also, I made Christmas dresses for my daughter and myself out of the red plaid fabric with flowers, and vests for my husband and son out of the red plaid coordinating fabric. We wore them to a restaurant one night and they thought we were a singing group.
HI Charlotte,
I’m glad you like Addy’s dress so far…wait till you see it tomorrow! :o)
I too, remember those Daisy Kingdom dollies too! Sweet, sweet, sweet!
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Perfect fabric for Addy. Thanks so much, Charlotte, for the information about Daisy Kingdom Dolls. I looked it up right away. They are really cute. Some of them are very large too. Your followers are so knowledgeable, Jeanne. Canβt miss asking a question of this group.
HI Susette,
I feel the same way about all you ladies out there following my blog. I feel like I could ask ANYTHING and someone would know the answer!
I probably still have some Daisy Kingdom fabric in my stash if I searched for it. :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Doesn’t that fabric just look like everything you love about Fall? She is going to be so pretty in that dress. What all do you have in mind for hats or ribbons and accessories? Can’t wait to see.
I did look up Daisy Kingdom…so miss their beautiful designs, fabric and patterns. Little girls looked so adorable in those dresses. Daisy does look like my little vintage “Made in Japan” Bisque. Did Daisy Kingdom make a small doll like their big vinyl one? I saw a Scootles..he’s so cute too!
HI Kathie,
The fabric truly speaks of Fall, doesn’t it? I just loved it when I got it, but I only had enough for this one dress, and barely at that!
I’ll have to find some of my older pics of Daisy Kingdom dresses I used to make for little girls.
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
Yes, Kathie, Daisy Kingdom did make those tiny dolls to look kind of like their big ones–all with an old-fashioned look!
Why of course, Addy is next! Such a pretty fall looking fabric that looks just wonderful on Addy, Jeanne! I love the black accents and can’t wait to see what comes next!
I second Susette on saying your readers are so knowledgeable! That was a wonderful site to look at, and I learned a bit today about dolls!
Hi Linda,
My pictures last night kind of make the black trim look a bit brownish, but it’s super black and looks really nice in person.
I would agree I have the best, sweetest, friendliest AND most knowledgeable readers ANYWHERE! I always learn something from someone!
Blessings, Jeanne
P.S.
Little Miss Kestner chose her name!
She looked at the list and was fond of all the choices. She giggled when she saw how many she had to choose from and said to ” Thank All Of You! but she said ” Emma Kate” was her favorite.
So now she is Emma Kate Kestner
Oh, oh, oh! Thatβs the name I picked for her! It fits her to a βTβ, Kathie! I guess I can be her fairy godmother now??π
Well congratulations to all 3 of you… Kathie, Linda and Emma Kate. Congratulations on picking the winning name Linda… Congratulations to Kathie on listening to your new little sweetheart and giving her the name she liked best! And congratulations to newly named Emma Kate! You are sure to be loved! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, I love that fabric. When I was making back-to-school this year I realized how little fall-like fabric I have and most of it would work best for my 18″ Gracie, but I was sewing for the smaller dolls and most of it didn’t work for them. Addy looks beautiful in this fabric. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
I find here in this part of Colorado the internet is worse than the old dial-up. First thing in the morning is the best time but later in the afternoon and evening I usually can’t even get on. And if I can, I often lose it.
Emma Kate is a lovely name. One of my rescue dolls is named Emma, but I don’t have a Kate. Surprising because I love the name.
HI Barbara,
I have too MUCH Fall fabric… and it seems I never get enough Fall dresses made before I have to turn my attention to Christmas ones.
I think you’ll like Addy’s dress tomorrow! I do and she does…
Thanks Barbara,
I hope you are enjoying your stay in Colorado… except for the slow internet! This too shall pass! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
I forgot to add this to my previous comment. Congratulations Kathie on the new addition to your family. I loved Callie too and am glad she is staying in the family. Send pictures!
Dorothy L Pixie Faire has some wonderful AGAT patterns. I do not have an AGAT but use the patterns, with a few adjustments, for my 16″ Emma.
Hi again Barbara,
I was going to suggest Pixie Faire too…
Thanks, Jeanne
Well, lucky Addy. The bodice of the dress looks lovely on her. Can’t imagine where you found that matching lace trim. It is becoming very difficult to find nice trim as I was just looking at Joann’s and the only thing they had was one kind of 1″ and it was in white. π Wondering how a skirt on the bias might look? May take too much fabric though.
Well, they decided not to cut the power here yesterday as the wind died, but now we’re up for today. So, we have everything open and fans going until it starts to warm up. Then we wait until they decide in their infinite wisdom whether or not to shut off power to thousands. Hopefully, I’ll have time to dry my hair before then. π
I forgot. Yesterday we got our flu shots! So we’re good to go. π
HI Joy,
Congrats on your flu shot… I got a letter in the mail for momma to get one… I have to give them permission.
I found the black lace trim at some antique store… It’s pretty nice… I think I have 3 different kinds.
I’ll show you how many scraps I have left… about 4 square inches… Yikes. I couldn’t make a mistake on this one… no scraps to repair it. So there was no way to cut the skirt on the bias. I was going to cut the bodice on the bias, because it was an uneven plaid, but didn’t have enough for that either.
You might have to go outside and let the sun dry your hair. :o)
Thanks Joy,
blessings, Jeanne
Horrors on the hair! Without the dryer I turn into a poodle.
But, we may have escaped the power shut down. Next county, not so much. π
Joy,
One time I got a perm and it turned out WAY too curly… George said I looked like a wet cocker spaniel when I washed my hair and tried to let it dry… with gel…
:o)
Jeanne
I love that plaid. Itβs like a pile of colorful autumn leaves seen from a distance. ππ
HI Julia,
I might have to dig out my Fall leaves and have them around Addy’s feet when I take her Ebay pictures. I’m glad you like her dress! Doesn’t she look pretty in those colors?
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, I love Addy in this bright color. I think she looks wonderful in bright colors.
I am happy that Kathie now has a name for her sweet doll. Emma Kate is a lovely name and it definitely suits her.
I have a question for the blog family. I am thinking about getting another Iplehouse bjd doll at the end of the year. Does anyone know someone who does Face-ups for these dolls? I am thinking about getting my doll unpainted.
HI Dorothy,
I think Addy’s dress in these colors looks wonderful on her too. They are really bright but still Fall-ish! I’m glad you like them.
You might try looking on Flicker… sometimes I just type in artist faceup and it brings up lots of doll pictures done by various artists… Of course I don’t know anything about them…
Oh, April Norton painted my little Navi… She does other dolls too… the Boneka dolls and a few others I’ve seen her advertise…
Thanks Dorothy,
Blessings, Jeanne
