Nyssa gets blue this time around…

Remember all those choices I gave you a month ago for Nyssa’s next dress? Well, I guess I turned a little fickle tonight as I was trying to just decide on something and surprise you! And I did! I looked at those choices from before and was trying to make a Easter dress from that Bohemian dress pattern. Somehow I just wasn’t feeling it so I changed my mind and decided to use a pattern from Marsha at Trentsation on Etsy. She’s a friend (an internet friend, but dear to me) of mine down in Texas and she drafts the sweetest patterns. I’ll include a link to her Etsy shop HERE.

I made this dress up for Nyssa once before in a red print and it was so darling on her. Remember this one?

Well, I found a blue hat in my stash and so I started looking at blue fabrics or fabrics that had blue in them as a predominate color. I wanted this to be a pretty Easter dress and this is what I came up with…

So here is the start of it in blue…

I didn’t realize it when I was putting it together, but that’s the exact same lace as I used on the red one… I tried a smaller, daintier lace, but it didn’t look right so I took it out. I did get the sleeves sewn in but they aren’t stitched at the under arms so they look a little funny…

Well, that’s how I spent my evening… how about you?

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

As soon as I saw that pattern, I thought, yes! Perfect for Easter!! That fabric is perfect, too….it goes well with the hat, and looks lovely on Nissa.

My Viking #1+ is scheduled to be back at the Viking store tomorrow–yay!! However, I really am not without machines–I own five, plus a serger! It’s just that this one is my favorite!

Earlier this year I was using my little Babylock 2300 to sew on sweater fabric–made two sweaters for myself. Then I switched to my new-to-me Singer Featherweight (1948 vintage–almost as old as I am!) and am making Rare Bears (to donate to Rare Science, for children with rare diseases). I have one finished, and one almost done, with fabrics chosen for a third one. However, before I get that made, I need to make my top for Expo next week–my friend and I bought the same fabric last year, and Thursday is going to be our “twinsie” day!! I do have the top cut out and all the dots, etc. marked, so it’s ready to sew.

Most of the snow is gone now, but there is still some talk of flurries or snow/rain mix, at least in the early morning hours, so I am praying that it doesn’t snow before Bill had a chance to get all the sewing machines delivered that he’s been working on for the last couple of weeks. (He delivers to a number of Viking stores-inside-JoAnn’s in the area.)

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Yay, I’m glad you like the looks of Nyssa’s new dress. I thought this blue would look very Eastery!!
It sounds like you have all the machines covered and one for just about everything! I do hope you get your favorite back tomorrow!

      Thanks Charlotte,
      Have a wonderful weekend,
      Blessings ,Jeanne

    2. Charlotte- how ‘big’ are the rare bears? I used a Viking 1+ for *years* and even bought a 2nd ‘back up’ one. Then, I bought a Topaz 30 to use – the 1+ almost never got used, so, I gave my ‘back up’ machine to my son. When I had to take my Topaz in for service, recently, I had ‘such a time’ trying to sew on ‘good old faithful’! LOL!!

  2. A perfect pattern for Nyssa, she is a somewhat elongated gal.
Your red dress is very cute and just a wee bit edgy, I love it. I am sure though that you will have just as much success with your pretty blue creation.
Thank you for your link to the etsy shop. I hadn’t come across any of these patterns. Actually my heart did a little leap, I am (desperately) seeking a pattern and thought this might be the place, sadly no.
I’ll send a photo of the dress. Scoop neck, cap sleeves, biggish rounded collar and a high – ish waist. Someone might have come across it.
I’m thinking of buying one (dress) and unpicking…….Or trying my hand at drafting.
Your regency Caroline dress is amazing, Caroline’s hair is too.
Can’t wait to see the beautiful blue creation.

    1. Jane.. have you ever checked out Adams-Harris patterns? Olive is so creative and she has many for all sizes of dolls, plus some freebies!
She used to design stage costumes for Blonde and other rock Stars:)

      1. Hi Shara
I love looking at those Adams-Harris patterns too!
Thanks for the reminder about them.
        Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Hi Jane,
Thanks for your compliments on Nyssa’s new blue dress. I’m glad you are liking the looks of it.

I will try to remember to show the pictures you sent me so everyone can see the dress pattern and maybe know where to find it.
You are wanting it for the Little Darlings size, right?

Thanks for the compliments on Caroline’s dress too!
      Blessings ,Jeanne

  3. Oh, Jeanne, this blue dress is going to be just perfect for Nyssa! She does seem to be one of your dolls that can wear the edgier dresses and outfits, but this is one that will make her look sweet as Easter candy!
How perfectly the hat matches, and the lace is exactly what works for the dress. I noticed in the picture of the website, the dress was modeled with bows on the sides of the shoes, which makes it look so sweet! I might try that sometime with Betsy, one of my smaller dolls , well, the smallest doll that I have. I don’t think that would work for 18 inchers. I know you don’t sell shoes either with your doll clothes, but it is a cute trick that could work, and then having a big poufy bow attached to the hat! That might work, then again, maybe not. Will she be holding a bunny and Easter basket?

You asked about how our evening went. Ha! Ha! Well, my evenings are not as up to snuff as yours are. I’m more of a morning person, and get the bulk of my things to do done in the morning and early afternoon. Evenings are a big bunch of nothing!! After cleaning up the dinner dishes, my day is done! I certainly feel like a slacker in that regard when I hear about all that you do in the evening, and I’m probably snoozing away! 😉

    1. Hi Linda,
I haven’t even looked at any accessories or toys to see what might work with this pretty blue. I’m not sure what she’ll use with it.

Oh, Linda, you are NOT and NEVER will be a slacker in my book. I think you get the house cleaning award from me…
I hope you enjoy the weekend!
      Blessings ,Jeanne

  4. Marsha creates the most adorable patterns! I have this one too.. the mini sweetheart neckline is perfect for Nyssa as is the blue color. White scalloped edge Swiss eyelet would also be a pretty trim if you didn’t want to duplicate the red dress:)
You always make the most beautiful outfits.. know this one will be as well!

    1. Hi Shara,
I just love Marsha’s patterns and how they fit.
Her instructions are so clear and it’s a pleasure making them.
I looked for some Swiss Batiste but only had the kind with one edge and nothing to go down the front…
      Thanks Shara,
      Blessings , Jeanne

  5. The blue looks lovely on Nyssa. Blue roses. I wonder what Luther Burbank might think? Anyone remember him? Hint, he lived in Santa Rosa. 🙂
Wonderful pattern too. I have one of the Trentsations for the Dumpling Meadow girls. Definitely something to add to the future pile around here.
Here it is Friday already. Have a creative weekend.

    1. Hi Joy,
I was going to Google Luther Burbank, because I didn’t know off hand who he is, but I just decided to play dumb!! I’m guessing he’s a singer who sang Blue Roses.
I saw one of Marsha’s Dumplings patterns that I just might have to get…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Nope, Luther Burbank was called the plant wizard. Hybridized tons of plants including the Shasta Daisy. And the thorn less blackberry of which we are trying to rid our backyard as I speak. Well, a few days ago. He actually had Henry Ford and Thomas Edison come to visit him here. You know, those inventor people. Look him up. 🙂

  6. I love your choice for Nyssa’s Easter dress. The blue fabric is lovely, and, of course, she needs an Easter bonnet. The pattern is very nice and is so perfect for Nyssa. The red dress as absolutely lovely. Nyssa is a wonderful model for just about anything you make. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

As for what I did/do with my evening(s). Thursday night is Chorale rehearsal, but most nights I watch TV with hubby and crochet. If I’m under pressure to finish a sewing or embroidery machine project, my sewing room is adjacent to the living room so hubby doesn’t feel too lonely. I usually crochet afghans. Everything pretty much used to be crocheted with either 4-ply worsted weight yarn or No. 10 crochet thread, but now there are so many beautiful yarn possibilities out there but I still have a ton of yarn from the old days I need to use up. Often I crochet doll clothes. One year I made Easter outfits for my 18″ BAB Bunny, my 18″ MA doll and a 7″ bunny I got one year at BAB with an outfit I bought. I used the same pattern just changed the hook size and in the case of the small bunny I used No. 10 crochet thread rather than a No. 4 worsted weight yarn. They are all different colors with added trims. They turned out very pretty. I made my 18″ Bunny and my MA Christmas dresses a couple years ago using worsted weight for the top and the fancy yarn usually used for scarfs for the skirt. They turned out really nice.

Thanks for both the link for Trentsation and the mention of Adams-Harris Patterns. I’m going to check them both out.

    1. Hi Barbara,
I’ve had that blue fabric for years and think I may have made my Katie Efanbee a dre from a very long time ago. I just love the simplicity of the print.
My sewing room is off the living room too. so I can still chat with my hubby if he is out there. There is an opening in the wall where a window used to be.
A seamstress can never have too many patterns can she?
      Thanks for sharing Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. What a sweet blue fabric, so perfect for Easter and how fortunate that you have a blue hat to match. That is just a darling pattern also. Everything goes so well with her blue eyes. I’ll enjoy seeing how this one comes along.

    1. Thsnk you Laura,
I’m glad you are liking the looks of Nyssa’s new blue dress. I can’t believe I had a hat that worked. I was busy all day but I’m hoping to get in my sewing room for a little while tonight.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Hubby and I spent the afternoon in town doing paperwork, running errands, getting groceries. I finally got a curtain rod I like for the new curtains over our full length glass French doors. Then I did laundry, made clam chowder and hubby and I ate and watched a movie. It was very relaxing.

  9. Jeanne I always love all of your creations and read your posts every day. So happy you are enjoying the pattern. Thanks so much for endorsing my pattern and shop. Coming from you it is a huge compliment! Also thank you Shara for loving my patterns!
    God Bless
    Marsha
