I’m just about ready to sew on 16 tiny buttons…

I’m sure you were hoping to see those tiny yellow buttons marching up and down the front of Addy’s newest Civil War dress, but *alas* it didn’t happen… maybe tomorrow. There was too much finishing work on the inside to get them sewn on. Since I drafted the pointed front on her bodice, I had to figure out how I was going to finish off the inside…let me just tell you I was making it up as I was going along. :o) So this will be sort of a “technical” post, sort of a tutorial, and if you don’t sew, it probably won’t interest you in the least, but I’ll show the end result and maybe that will put a smile on your face…

I started out with a duplicate front that I cut out and interfaced it for a little bit more body especially with those points.

There was LOTS of pinning to hold everything in place…and LOTS of basting too… because I was getting stuck too much!

I didn’t attach the inside lining all the way to the armholes as it would have been too bulky and tight, but I fastened it at the bottom and the top neck and shoulder edges and the bottom of the sides…maybe you can tell from these pictures…
The snaps are all sewn on too! All 5 sets of them! :o)

So it ended up looking like this…

Now don’t laugh at this last picture, but Addy has “Certainly” taken better pictures… maybe because it was too late…but she has that deer in the headlights look to her eyes!

Well, hopefully most of the handwork is done and I can move along a little quicker now!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Ha ha ha! You’re right! Poor Addy Does have the “deer in the headlights” look in that last picture!! That made me laugh

Her dress is coming right along, Jeanne, and is going to be wonderful when it’s done!

I almost hate to say anything (and feel free to delete this comment if you wish) but doesn’t it seem to you that the right-hand point (on Addy’s right side, that is, our left) is just the tiniest bit longer than the other one? I looked at the picture of the inside of the garment, too, and….I don’t know, maybe it’s just the angle of the picture…..and of course I don’t have the garment right in front of me, but….. Well, by now you know how picky I am about my own sewing, and I know how particular you are about yours, too. It could just be because it’s against her “skin” rather than over the skirt, but, for what it’s worth, I thought I’d say something.

I actually got some sewing done today, but for our smocking Wee Care project (bereavement gowns), so the dollies are having to wait again! I’d better at least get something new cut out for them pretty soon, or I’ll have a mutiny on my hands!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I thought the one side was longer too, so I folded it in half and it was the same, then I even took a ruler and measured it…it was the same…I think it’s an optical illusion with those yellow flowers being slightly on the one side at both ends… when it’s placed on top of the skirt I doubt it will be noticed even if it were off.
Yes…you better get something started for Your girls!!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Oh gosh, Jeanne, I wish I had your patience, not to also say, you expertise in sewing, to spend that much time on a doll dress! It is turning out just darling, and I can’t wait to see those buttons dancing on the front! You said “marching”, but I am thinking “dancing”! Doesn’t matter, I just can’t wait to see them there doing their thing!

I don’t know, Charlotte, about the one point being longer, it seems to me it is the way the print is, and where it ends on each side. They do look even to me!

I am in the thick of taking down my Christmas decorations, and need to get it done sooner rather than later. The ATT man is coming to change us over to U-Verse from Direct TV, so tomorrow afternoon should be fun! So much to do, so little time!

    1. Hi Linda,
Ok….We’ll call them dancing buttons! 16 dancing buttons…I just hope I don’t lose a single one or it will throw off my design…

As I told Charlotte…I even measured the sides…I do believe it’s an optical illusion…from the print…
I hope you managed to get your Christmas decorations down today…it was nasty here today…rainy and super windy…

      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I love how you do your finishing details. Your outfits are as beautiful in the inside as the front side. Addie is going to look so pretty modeling the finished creation… can’t wait for her photos ❤️

    1. Hi Shara,
Thank you for your kind comments Shara! I appreciate them coming from someone who sews and smocks as nicely as you do!!!
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. What an accomplishment! All of those snaps alone would have done me in. I got out my microscopic glasses to examine the dress points. In my opinion, one is rounded a bit more than the other making it appear longer/shorter, pointier, than the other. But, it is a microscopic difference in the shape. Once the buttons are on, I don’t think it will be noticeable. In the last photo, I think that Addy is just startled that she was caught without her bloomers. 🙂
I need to dig through the old paint cans in the garage and see if I can find some paint to repaint the attic access closet and new hatch cover. Then at least we can put a few things back while we await the inspector’s visit in the future. Looks like today may be without rain so things can dry out. Our neighbor never made it home from the Sierra’s. They closed the highway because of whiteout conditions so presume they got a hotel for the night like most everyone else. Back to school today for our local kids.

    1. Hi Joy,
I laughed out loud when I read you got out your microscopic glasses…YOU should be out next 4H judge… that just struck me funny…

Good call on the look on Addys face because of missing bloomers… could be…. :o)

I bet you are almost excited to paint so you can put things away….I sure would be…

We got your rain today and lots of wind!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I may not understand a lot of what you’re doing even if you’re explaining it but I certainly appreciate anyone who does anything as well as you. It’s your profession and talent that I appreciate so much. You know what you’re doing and you improvise when you have to. Your sewing work ( and about everything else you do) is always precise and perfect.
I’m loving the look of Addy’s dress. Can’t waut to see the yellow buttons.

    1. Thank you Paula,
I knew today’s post was kind of technical, but I didn’t know any other way to show how it was put together.
Thank you for your kind compliments!
I hope to get the rest of the buttons seen on this evening! Maybe the next time you see it, the buttons will be dancing down the front.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I’m not sure total perfection is possible, only near perfection. I do admire you for always striving for the very best, though. I’m looking forward to those buttons and agree with Linda that they’ll dance on that fabric. I think I’m really going to like the curved back. And you think you’ll add pantalettes to this this outfit. High button shoes or pretty flats? A bag? or a basket of something nice? A hat or a bonnet? Addy has so much hair that that’s an important decision.

Speaking of exacting sewing, a friend sent me a link to a Pin of a quilt. Let’s see if I can pass it on. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/822681056909806547/?utm_campaign=popular_pins&e_t=6213b88bd171402cb0fd10497d6d5e09&utm_content=822681056909806547&utm_source=31&utm_term=10&utm_medium=2012\ I had to cut and paste, but it’s worth the extra bother.

    1. What a fabulous quilt. I love the colors. As I started looking at other quilts when I clicked on it, and there is a beautiful one of birds on cream that is also amazing. Such wonderful works of art. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

    2. Hi Marilyn,
You, too, will get to see those dancing buttons hopefully tomorrow!
I think there WIILL be pantaletes and the pale yellow boots DO button up!!

Wowsers!!! I loved those quilts…I was always going to make a spool quilt so I absolutely LOVED that one!!!
      Thanks for the link!!!
      Blessings, Jeanne
