Are you ready for some Colonial Charm?

Were you ready to bid Monday night on Noel’s dress set and saw that it had ANOTHER day before it ended? I got my days mixed up and thought it ended Monday, when in reality it ends this evening… Tuesday evening! All I say is OOPS! Sorry about that…
If you want to see her dress again you can click on the picture at the right or you can click HERE.

Okay, now that we have that cleared up…how about some pictures of Felicity’s dress again… this time with the skirt attached! My hubby came in my sewing room this evening and he knew it was a Colonial dress from just looking at it and he loved the fabric! I told him YOU ALL picked this print… then I had to tell him how… :o)

This is about as Colonial as they come… and it was a very nice pattern to work with … Thanks Eve!(KeepersDollyDuds)

Felicity was kind of prancing around on my cutting table saying, “Take more, take more!” I told her I had enough pictures, but there would be more to come when I finished the rest of the pieces to the set. She got really excited at that!

My doll is one of the original Felicity’s and she’s got a pretty chubby body, so I sewed 4 snaps on the back bodice to hold it closed.
The inside is pretty neat too… all the edges are finished off…

I found a piece of burgundy wired ribbon that will work nicely if I make her a hat and decorate it or if I just use it to tie in her hair.

There are still things to be done to go with the dress, but the dress itself is ALL done… let’s see, what could go with a Colonial dress… a fichu, a reticule, some pantalettes, a petticoat, a hat, a round eared cap, a necklace, and more… I’ll see what I come up with.

I hope you are enjoying seeing this dress come to life!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Felicity’s dress is just lovely, and really quite elegant! Can’t wait to see what else you do!!

    1. Thank you, Charlotte!
Felicity does look very grown up in this dress…it must be wonderful to be 10 and have such a pretty dress!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Totally agree with Charlotte! Pretty impressive that George knew you were creating a Colonial dress and he likes the fabric. I think I would have fallen off my chair.
So glad to see you are getting back to your sewing room, I know that is my happy place too.

    1. HI Leigh,
I was surprised too, that my hubby recognized it as a Colonial dress. Usually he goes for the bolder colors so this one really must be nice for him to have liked it.
Aren’t sewing rooms wonderful? I just love mine!!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I am third to agree, Jeanne! What a lovely dress for a lovely doll! I love the fine detailing on the dress, and am surprised to see the lace stand up around the neckline! The inside of the dress is immaculately sewn to perfection! I never could get anything to meet together so perfectly like you do. Well, that’s a no-brainer!
So George likes the dress too! Whoo hoo!!

We are getting a new driveway and sidewalk today, they are now grinding up the old concrete, and I am having a hard time concentrating with all the racket!

I too, cannot wait to see what is in store for this lovely outfit! I can’t figure out where the fichu would wrap around her neck, but see where it would be under the strips on the bodice. A lovely hat and a pretty reticule would look so pretty with it, and I thought maybe fingerless lace gloves, but wonder if they would clash with the lace around the sleeves, unless you found some pretty burgundy lace to make them? That might be hard to find.

Whatever, I will for sure, be watching for the next steps you take! It won/t be long!!

    1. Just thought, maybe a burgundy reticule instead of making it in the same fabric of the dress would look good. Then maybe no burgundy gloves. Thoughts?

      1. HI Linda,
I’m so glad that you like Felicity dress so far. I suppose you could flatten out the lace and wear it turned down if you like, but the fichu kind of keeps the lace standing up when worn with the dress.

If you have trouble getting your lining to match up with the front piece, you could cut your lining on the bias…that way it has a little bit more give and makes it easier to match up on the inside.

Congrats on your new driveway…we could use one of those…well, actually just a load of gravel.

I’ll have to wait and see how the fichu looks and then decide what else to put with the set…I have plenty of possibilities to work with.

        Thanks Linda,
        Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I’m for a hat. I love those big hats over the delicate lace caps and I love that wired ribbon — a lovely color for it. The size of the print pattern is wonderful for this dress. When I first saw it, I didn’t realize it was so small and perfect. I still love the gold, but this is a winner.

    Good luck on tonight’s auction.

    1. Thanks Marilyn,
I’m thinking a lacy round eared cap and a straw hat might be in order…this dress is pretty dressy looking so why not fancy it up more…
George came in my sewing room this morning and was “fingering” my straw hats…so maybe he knew something I didnt!

      I can’t believe I messed up on the day Noel”s dress ended…oh well…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I’m loving the burgundy accent this morning. Looks so rich. Can’t wait to see what you add as finishing accessories. Good to see George is up on his eras.
We actually have rain today. Very welcome I might add.

    1. HI Joy,
Now that the dress is completely finished, I’m ready to see what else looks good with it…
I like your line…”glad to see George is up on his eras!” That made me laugh…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Dear Jeanne, I can just imagine Felicity jumping around posing for pictures.
I am wondering what prop you will use in your photos. I am trying to remember with what type of doll girls from this era played.
I like Joy’s play on words also!

    1. HI Dorothy,
I’ll have to dig around in my props and see what I come up with…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I’ve wasted so much time this morning looking for a picture that showed up on my Screensaver in the last day or two. It was of a woman in a dress with much the same fabric pattern and style as Felicity’s dress. I was taken at a Civil War Reenactment performed in Huntington Beach Library Park some years ago. It really looked more colonial. I’ll keep looking. In any case, Felicity looks wonderful in her new dress and can’t wait to see it with the wonderful accessories you always come up with.

    1. HI Susette,
If you find the picture send it my way. I know how frustrating it can be searching for something and not being able to find it.
M glad you’re liking Felicity’s new dress. It’s been a while since she got anything new…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. How very, very pretty Felicity’s dress is, Jeanne. Your work is always a delight to view.

I am still getting your posts a day late. I just got the October 1st e-mail (on the 2nd) and went to your site and found this posting….so, that’s the status from my front.

But, I am super thrilled just to read your blog anytime. Your work is amazing.

    Blessings.

    1. HI Becky,
It seems you aren’t alone in getting the posts a day late. A good friend here in town gets hers a day late as well…ugh!!! I am going to see Sarah tomorrow…maybe she can look at my computer and find a setting that is wrong. It really would be nice to have this all straightened out.
Thank you for your kind compliments on Felicity”s dress…she’s such a pretty doll!!!!
      Thank you, Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. The dress is beautiful, Jeanne!!
I get the email from Mail Chimp a day late. The email still comes for me from WordPress, and it’s right on time! I don’t need to have both delivered. Can I unsubscribe from Mail Chimp without causing problems?
    Hugs,
    Ali

    1. HI Ali,
I’m not sure exactly how it all works…the Word press and the Mailchimp…I do know the Mailchimp is the one I have everyone’s name and email address on. It’s the service that I thought sent all my posts out…but I’m supposed to see Sarah tomorrow so maybe I can ask her…
I’m glad you like Felicity”s dress.
      Thanks Ali,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. The Sage and Green wasn’t my first choice but after seeing it on Felicity I am loving it. I was afraid it was too pale for her skin color but I was wrong.
Love the dress and the design. I think I have that pattern or it’s on my wish list. Now I am going to have to check my pattern boxes.

George scores big time. That he know it was Colonial is amazing. Maybe he’s a secret AG doll designer. I can’t wait to see the finished outfit. I love the burgundy ribbon with the dress and that is perfect.

I am still getting the emails late. This one hasn’t shown yet but I usually don’t wait and come right to your site first.

    1. HI Sandra,
I’m so glad seeing the fabric made up changed your mind about the fabric. It’s very pretty in person…my camera can’t quite capture just how pretty it is on Felicity.

I think all my doll sewing IS rubbing off on my hubby!!! He does help me think of the story lines sometimes.

      Thank you Sandra,
      Blessings, Jeanne
