Don’t you love surprises? Well, the good ones…anyway! Some of my best ones come in the mail. You walk out to the mailbox and open it up and there’s a box with your name on it!! Instantly, you do a double take to make sure it really is for you! Then you glance at the return address and get the biggest surprise of the day… it’s one of your blog readers, and they’ve sent you something. You race into the house and grab the scissors to “carefully” but “quickly” open the box! :o)
This happened to me early last week, but I’m just now getting a chance to show you. It was wrapped in the prettiest wrapping paper!
Kathie sent me these wonderful kitchen towels for my new kitchen…that’s going to be finished one of these days. I promise you and I promise myself!
She said she was shopping at Kohls and thought my kitchen would like them. Wasn’t that nice of her to think about my kitchen. I thanked her and told her I couldn’t have picked anything any nicer to go in my kitchen if I had done it myself. Some of them are nubby and some of them are like velour…so soft and comfy feeling… my dishes will LOVE them!
They look wonderful with my countertops! I just love them and WILL use them. Kathie told me I HAD to… so did my sister, Cindy! So I will!
Then last week I found myself at Hobby Lobby and the clocks were all 50% off! YAY!! Don’t you just love a sale when it’s for something you NEED!
I needed a clock and wanted a fun one… something to go with my fresh newly painted kitchen wall. We’ve had a clock up above my kitchen window for the last 14 years and we still find ourselves looking up there to see what time it is. I’m going to have a new pendant light hanging down to my window so I decided to pass on the clock above the window.
However, there wasn’t any reason I couldn’t put a clock on the wall between my window and the back door… like I showed you with this clock a while back…
I decided on a cute one… at Hobby Lobby. It’s the turquoise one above… but here’s a better shot of it…
…and I tried to get a shot of it where it will be, but I couldn’t do it by myself. I haven’t hung it yet…too busy, but soon I will… that is if you all give your approval! :o)
I like that turquoisey blue color and want to sort of use it in spots…in my kitchen… :o)
Well, that’s going to be it for today… We had to meet with the septic system guys out at my mom’s house this morning and didn’t get back till after 2:00. My day disappeared pretty quickly after that. So this was all I could do for you today. I did make it in my sewing room this evening. Rebecca had some pants that needed to be “fixed” so she could wear them tomorrow. It felt pretty good to sit in my sewing chair!
Thanks everyone,
See you soon,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a lovely surprise package for you! And for your new kitchen!! They look really nice against your new countertop, I agree!!
I’m glad to see you finally found the right clock for your kitchen, too. I remember we discussed whether the color of the face of that other one was just right with the walls, countertops and cupboards. I think adding that touch of turquoiey blue is much better than just a plain dark borrder, and will probably help the dial color to work well with everything else.
You know, I totally understand–after the month or two you’ve had, even a little mudane mending is a welcome foray into the sewing room!! As you said, it just feels good to sit in your sewing chair again!!
HI Charlotte,
YES, surprises are wonderful!!! You might know a thing a two about that!!
I was just looking online at Buffalo checked fabrics and found one in a spa blue, which might look kind of nice next to my clock. I thought I might go with taupe checks but this blue really tugs at me….hmmm…
What was nice about sitting at my machine was my sewing machine worked and I remembered how to use it!!
Thanks so much, Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
How very nice of Kathie to send you those wonderful towels! We all need a pick-up in the kitchen now and then, and that’s a perfect way to give the kitchen a new look! It also reminds me to run over to Kohl’s and get some for my kitchen! They work perfectly in your farmhouse kitchen, and you can always think of Kathie every time you use them!
I ,too, love that beautiful clock! What a perfect color to use and brighten up the wall! It is so different, not just a plain, black and white clock, and it’s unique shape and color give your kitchen personality!
It seems that we all have those days when we don’t feel we accomplish much, or they just slip by before we know it. But the day will come when we will be able to get back on track to do what we love to do, and that will happen to you too, Jeanne! Keep on keeping on!
HI Linda,
I think everyone loves new kitchen things…my mom has kept the Christmas dish towels you sent her on display in her kitchen since she unwrapped them. Every time I walk in her apartment, I think of your kindness!
It was very nice to receive the towels from Kathie. I really do love them.
I like my clock too and can’t wait till it’s up on my wall. I think the pop of color it brings to the kitchen will be nice.
Well, I was just sent the papers with the buyers agreeing to buy my mom’s house, so it looks like it’s a done deal. It might be over pretty soon. It’s starting to feel weird that momma won’t own that house anymore…
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a lovely and very thoughtful gift from Kathie to you, Jeanne. It all adds to your “wellness meter” inside. Generosity and friends go so well together.
Your choice of a clock is just what I think I would have chosen too. I’m glad you found something you really liked.
And, one of these days the remembrance of all the work you did at your mom’s house will be just memories. I’m glad you both have had the energy to work with all the multitude of tasks that you’ve accomplished this year. God’s grace has been sufficient.
Blessings.
HI Becky,
You’re so right about generosity and good friends going together. You’re right again about making me feel better too. Oh, not so much my back, but my heart…everyone loves to feel loved! I did and I do! :o)
Yes, God’s grace has been VERY abundant in our lives this year. It doesn’t surprise me how quickly things have fallen in place with momma’s house. He truly is a good, good God!
Thank you Becky,
Blessings, Jeanne
Great gift from Kathie! Definitely use them. I tend to use two and the rest reside in a drawer. Guess I too should change up to the new ones rather than let them clutter the drawer.
And what a great find in the clock. 50% off is wonderful. It’s my favorite chippy blue too. Can’t tell about the size, but when the window/door trim are up, I think it will work. Wasn’t the other one larger?
So happy the house is about to close. Did the septic pass muster? Housing market is a bit quiet here. Not like a few months ago, but there are a couple of offers in the wind for later this week so we’ll see about our project.
Would love to see a machine smocking tutorial. I bought a pattern for a Wellie that uses it, but I’m a little nervous to try it. I’ve never really used any of my machine’s decorative stitches. I know maybe a collar with various stitches for those of us who don’t use the fancy stitches. 🙂 Just a thought.
Have a great rest of the week.
HI Joy,
The other clock I tried was larger, but didn’t have near the charm this one does. I put up some pieces of paper to show where the door and window trim would end and this clock fits perfectly between them. I can’t wait to get the trim up!
The septic tank didn’t pass the inspection…my mom never had it pumped out…even though it never gave her any troubles. Yesterday when we were out there with the septic people, they dug it up and the concrete tank was corroded and crumbling and full of sludge and tree roots. It was clear to us that a new tank needed to be put in…so we’re allowing the new buyers $5000 for it…guess that’s better than a new roof!! :o)
A machine smocking tutorial, huh? I might have to think about that…I’ve done it before, but a LONG time ago…
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Actually, that doesn’t sound bad at all for the septic credit. We’re fortunate that the old house here is on city water/sewer. But, we have other issues. Like the sag in the old part of the house because the concrete blocks were not cemented down and have shifted. Not horribly expensive to fix, but people want move in ready and all updated so we are hoping for someone with some fix it skills. We’ll see, someone was looking at it when we drove by a few minutes ago. 🙂
Dear Jeanne, how lovely to receive a gift. And yes, you must use the items.
I love the clock. Paris is my most favorite city. I would look at the clock and pretend I was getting ready to walk out and take a stroll down the Champs Elysees. Ah, Paris.
Bonne journée (have a nice day).
Thanks Dorothy,
New towels, and other kitchen things ARE really wonderful. I don’t know of anyone who wouldn’t love them.
That’s what I’ll do too…I’ll pretend I’m going to the Champs Elysees… whatever that is…I’ll have to look it up. :o)
Thanks Dorothy,
Blessings, Jeanne
I finally got the blog to come up. I’ve been trying on and off for about 6 hours, and now, here it is! And a nice one besides. Do you write any other kind? No. Good. We have that settled.
Those are such nice dishtowels. I especially like the honey one. I suppose that’s the one I wouldn’t use, but everyone is right — when you have something you love, use it, enjoy it, and remember it, don’t store it and forget it.
I think the clock will be perfect in your kitchen. It can take its place as souvenir of your grandmother’s first trip to Paris.
The Avenue des Champs-Élysées (French pronunciation: [av(ə).ny de ʃɑ̃z‿e.li.ze] ) is an avenue in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France, 1.9 kilometres (1.2 mi) long and 70 metres (230 ft) wide, running between the Place de la Concorde and the Place Charles de Gaulle, where the Arc de Triomphe is located. It is known for its theatres, cafés, and luxury shops, for the annual Bastille Day military parade, and as the finish of the Tour de France cycle race.
The name is French for the Elysian Fields, the paradise for dead heroes in Greek mythology. Champs-Élysées is widely regarded to be one of the most recognisable avenues in the world. Click for info and photos https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champs-%C3%89lys%C3%A9es If that doesn’t work, just go to Wikipedia.org and look up Champs-Elysees. There are pictures of German troops after the surrender of Paris, of French troops after Liberation, and of American troops in the victory parade, as well as several others.
HI Marilyn,
Cindy was having trouble getting my post to come up too…but she finally got it. Glad you did too.
I just hung up my clock… Cindy had to help me long distance! :o) Silly me… I don’t know what I was waiting on… it took one nail and one hammer to do it!
I did look up Champs Elysees and it’s beautiful and I think I want to go! Little shops to visit get me every time!
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
Glad the towels look good with your counters and they should wash well. Love, love the clock and that color works so well with your counters and floors too.
The house sold already! Whoopie! That was fast. Now maybe you can concentrate on some Jeanne time!
HI Kathie,
Thank you again for the dish towels! I really do love them. I have them sitting on my counter right now… too pretty to put in the drawer. at least for now! :o)
Yes, momma’s house sold really quickly. I think it would have been already closed on by now, but the people went on vacation and just got back.
Yes, now it’s time for me and it’s long overdue! :o)
Thanks again so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh those towels are pretty, and Kathie was so sweet to send them to you. I like the clock you chose. It will be so pretty hanging in your kitchen. The one you showed us before wasn’t nearly as eye-catching as the new one! Things are coming along nicely.
HI Carolyn,
I’ll have to show you the clock on my wall…maybe omorrow. I managed to get it put up and I can’t quit looking at it… I really like it.
Yes, it was very sweet of Kathie to surprise me with the towels. They REALLY are nice to touch. I am SO blessed by my readers!
Thanks Carolyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
