It sure was fun seeing and reading all the comments under the post yesterday! It truly warmed my heart to see how happy you all were chatting with each other! Thank you for “missing” being together and sharing what you have been doing.
Just a quick sidenote… I saw all the comments about cataract surgery and thought I’d tell you about when I had mine a few years ago.
I had worn mono-vision contacts since I was 16. One contact was for distance and one was for closeup. Hard, soft, gas permeable lenses…I wore them all. So when it came time for my cataract surgery, it only made sense to get lenses that worked like my contacts always had. I’ve been told it’s more of a brain thing than an eye thing…your brain just figures out how to look forward and see close up and distant combined. It worked perfectly for me… George calls my eyes bionic… just my two cents worth.
Linda had some pictures to share and I thought it would be a great way to celebrate being back…
Jeanne, I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy seeing the pictures of others when they send them into let you know what is going on at their house! Rosemary’s quilts were just beautiful, Karen’s children are darling, and I really enjoyed their sweet artwork! Then too, Marilyn’s contribution about blue butterflies was excellent!
Here at my house, we are finally getting fall decorations out, because for one thing, it IS fall, and the weather has changed dramatically! Hope these will help!

Here are the 40’s girls, having fun at the pumpkin patch. Betsy is roasting marshmallows while Molly is entertaining everyone on her guitar. Susan and Ruthie are about to head out to pick apples. Later on they will go on a hayride!
Here is my hutch, decorated for fall. I bought a couple of gourds at the grocery store, and had all the rest.
Here is my tray I put together in the living room. My daughter gave me the autumn angel, and everything else is from Hobby Lobby, plus things I had.
Not my dining room table, but Felicity’s! My dolls never seem to go hungry.

It was so nice to see all the wonderful comments yesterday, Jeanne! Just like old times! You really don’t miss what you have until you don’t have it anymore, it seems! I enjoyed seeing names we haven’t seen for awhile, and even a new name, “Remove Me”! 🤣. I just knew it was Joy, and thought she was playing a trick on us! So glad it was just a glitch!
Thank you all so much for your concern and information about cataract surgery. It is turning out to be a bit more complicated than I first thought, so I will have to think it out carefully before I do it, which will probably be next year. Jeanne, your experience sounds like what I would like to have, but you seem to be one of the happier ones.

Thank you for your photos of the adorable dolls and your lovely home dressed for Fall. No sighs of Fall here in our part of the south. I was working in very hot weather on Wednesday, but this morning it is a bit cooler.
Thank you, Sissy! I know how you must feel, since we were feeling the heat only a couple of days ago! What a difference a few days make! I wanted to get fall going here, so I just decided it was time, and amazingly, the cooler weather came when I put my dolls in fall clothes and got my house decorated!
Yes Linda, I also gained a lot of advice and experiences about the surgery.
I think I have a lot of new information and thoughts to go over before I have to have my cataract surgery.
We will figure it out together, Rosemary!
I forgot to mention how much I love your hutch display and the lovely decorated tray. I don’t usually keep displays up long but this year I have managed to keep my Christmas village up on the dining room table and my Christmas tree is still up. We light the village because we love seeing that but the tree stays unlit for awhile yet. The tree is up because I have to take the village down to undo the tree and just didn’t have it in me this year. But come December 1 I’m sure I’ll be over the moon not to have to put it all up again. Fortunately our dining room is not used much so none of this was a problem.
Thank you, Barbara! Now you have no excuse why you haven’t sent us a picture of your village and tree! I would love to see that! I keep all my Dept. 56 scenes up all year round! They are in various places in our basement family room.

We are so deserving of these cooler days, I hope everyone can enjoy this. I know there are still a few way too hot pockets in the south. Weather has a mind of it’s own. The weather guessers and experts are always thwarted by last minute dances Mother Nature likes to do.
I think I might go out for a long walk around the neighborhood today and take in some of this breezy air.
And here we are at Friday. I will be sewing all week-end because that is what I want to do!
Thank you, Rosemary! Well, I really do owns the lighting on the doll scene was better, but that day was gloomy, and I just had to do with what lighting I could get. Really it is very colorful, much more tha. What it shows. I leave the displays out, so I am not really fixing up a scene for a picture, I just take a picture of what is there. I love Molly playing the guitar too! I thought the cowgirl outfit was a cute touch to the scene!
Oh yes, we are enjoying cooler days! Good for you to sew all weekend! You do what you want and what makes you happy!
It was fun yesterday to hear what’s been happening with everyone. And what a treat today to see Linda’s fall extravaganza. The girls are so cute and ready for adventures. Love the pets and all of the little extras. So fun. And then, the lovely displays. I always have to enlarge Linda’s work to capture each item in her amazing vignettes. She has such great artistic flair. I love the display on the hutch. I never would have considered adding the white to enhance everything in the display. The candlesticks and the soup tureen really add to the display along with those lovely fall leaf design plates. Wow! And then the tray! What a wonderful way to catch a display. How fun to have the beads/fringe drape out of the tray for extra interest. I can only dream of being so talented. It was fun to see the doll fall table as well. The doily and special treats are so inviting. A big thank you to Linda and Jeanne for sharing. Loved it.
We ended up rather warm yesterday, in the 90’s, but it cooled down later and I managed to get back out into the yard and pull out more overgrown bergenia plants. They have long overgrown their rock boundary, so regaining part of the path has been nice. I think I’m about half way done. Then, with a few days of cooler weather, we’ll be back in the attic at the other house. Really want to get more done there before the new roof goes on.
And, I do have a package out for delivery today. I have my doubts about the arrival as other person has been on alert lately. But, we’ll see if I get caught today. 🙂
I forgot to mention yesterday about how much I enjoyed Marilyn’s butterflies. I had to look them up and found that we too have them in certain parts of our area here in CA. I’ve been trying to figure out where to go scouting. Might be a little late to see them this year though. 🙂

The two white candlesticks belonged to my in-laws, and they were on their fireplace mantel. I always admired them, and they were left to me. The soup tureen was one I bought from Penney’s years ago, to sort of go with the candlesticks. Yes, the white does show up so well with the dark pine of the hutch. I am always changing things around, and love to decorate! I guess it helps that I have an artistic bent, and the time to do it!
The dolls are always having fun here it seems, and I wanted to have then on a hayride, but no room for the wagon. This scene worked out great for them, plus I got to use the guitar I had. I should have put a battery in the campfire, but too much trouble just for a snapshot! We pretend around here a lot!

As long as it’s warm and sunny and there’s an isolated place you can go, you might be lucky. Ours were near a marsh. See if there’s a Sierra Club or some nature group near you. Someone there might know a butterfly expert or where saltbush grows near you.
Super to have you back. This is a perfect way to reach a lot of doll people, so here goes.
I bought a pair of AG sandals on Ebay. They were coming from Canada. The total was $37.30 — too much, but ok — Canadian postage plus tariff fees on used goods. When they arrived, UPS wanted $41.50 more. The tariff wasn’t included, and used didn’t matter.
The UPS deliveryman was very nice. He told me I could just refuse the package. I said I’d be happy to pay return postage. He said it was unnecessary, and that they were getting a lot of refusals right now.
If you are buying from Ebay, check the location. If it’s not from the US, be aware that you may be charged more in tariffs than the value of the goods plus tax and delivery fee. We’ve been told that foreign businesses will pay the tariffs. I certainly wouldn’t have wanted the seller to pay more for selling her item than I paid any more than I wanted to pay that much more myself.
Currently, the only solution is to wait until sanity returns before buying from our Canadian neighbors and friends. But if you have bought, you can refuse the package. You are not stuck.
And with that done, I’m glad to see everyone back. I’ll go to yesterday’s comments and start catching up
A beautiful autumn doll scene, Linda. I hope the girls get lots of apples. We went each fall for many, many years to a local orchard to pick apples. There’s an even closer one to get pumpkins and gourds. Love Ruthie’s and Susan’s little bags.
Your hutch looks lovely. I really like the candlestick and soup tureen. The tureen is similar to my grandmother’s casual china in later years -Metlox Poppytrail Antique Grape. I have it and love using it for Thanksgiving.

Thank you, Laura! I really love fall and all the fun things you can do outdoors without sweating buckets! I remember taking my daughter’s Brownie troop to an apple orchard and pumpkin patch. What fun that was! That is what I was thinking of when I did this scene.
While I decorate my hutch for every season, I really like doing it for fall, since it looks like a fall piece of furniture! Fall colors make it look so pretty and show off the hutch so well. My everyday plates are white, but I bought those leaf plates at Pier One to decorate with.

I will be heading out to lunch soon but wanted to get my comment in sooner than later. I love, love, love Linda’s doll scenes. So much detail and she actually gets it all done. I’m still trying to get back to sewing and creating scenes. My massage therapist (a man) is also a photographer and he had me send him some of my doll photography. He loved seeing them. I think he will be a big help in getting my muse back.
Still hot here. Linda, wouldn’t mind if you sent some of your perfect weather this way.

I would love to send you some of our cooler weather! Right now it is 1:30 in the afternoon, and is 73 degrees! What’s even better is that it actually feels like 73. Gone are the days when it would be 98 and feel like 110! What a difference a lower dew point and humidity make!
So good to hear that you are back on for comments. I haven’t looked at emails all week…had the Fluzone Hi-dose vaccine at CVS last Saturday and did not handle it well and I will not want to repeat that bigger dose next year. I didn’t know they had administered the larger dose meant for seniors over 65 until I read the sheet of paper I was given for my records. By Sunday I had a really stiff neck and an extremely sore arm…by Monday, a fever of 102.5 with shivering chills….could not stop shaking. Plus muscles hurt, no appetite whatsoever, a headache 24/7 that only Tylenol helped and an ice pack on my head, round the clock. My spinal stenosis would throb for several seconds whenever I turned over in bed and it only throbs whenever I torque it too much getting in and out of the car. I’ve lost almost 5 pounds from not eating much of anything…only bananas sounded good or a mango fruit cup…plus lots of water.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, I fell out of bed on Tuesday night around 10:15. Evidently I was sleeping too close to the very edge of the bed and needed to get up in a hurry to go use the bathroom, and when I went to lift my legs out from under the covers to plant my feet on the floor, and reaching with my left hand for the edge of the mattress like I always do, my hand went into just “air” and I knew I was falling. Smacked my head on my night stand as well….daughter was not able to get me up from the floor, so firemen/paramedics came and had me up. Thankfully nothing was broken, but leg and hip muscles have been so VERY sore. It is getting better with each passing day.
Oh, I am so sorry that you had such a bad reaction. But, very glad that the firemen were able to get you up after the bed accident and that nothing was broken. Yikes, definitely check with your doctor about that shot. It should be documented and the company who made the shot dose notified. Was it Pfizer? Other person and I both had our shots last week. We had both the senior flu and Covid shots. We could definitely feel the arm being sore and had a slight headache, but nothing serious here.

I realize I forgot to comment on Friday’s blog late Thursday night before I went to bed. I had gotten a call from my grandkids in Missouri (the ones who lost their mom in June) very late that night, and although I had looked at the blog, the phone call distracted me enough that I forgot to go back and comment. And I am usually the first one to do so!!
Linda, thanks so much for sharing your pictures with us! Your autumn decorations are really lovely. Molly’s cowgirl outfit reminds me of the one I made for my own Molly a few years ago. The main fabric is a suede-like fabric in a black and white “pony” print (in other words, large freeform spots like a pony has spots), and Molly’s blouse is also red gingham, like your Molly’s is. They could practically be twins!
Your white candlesticks are lovely–I can see why you’d want them! I have a couple of little things that were my in-laws’, too, and they are special to me. One is a little strawberry-shaped container for jam; the other is a blue pitcher Ron’s mother made in ceramics. Small and not very elegant items, but I love them.
Thank you to everyone for your kind expressions of condolence on the loss of my friend Liz. That is three people this summer–first my former daughter-in-law Sarah on June 14th (Isaac and Lily’s mom), then my good friend Mary Rose, who was 86 and in poor health–it was her AG doll Kristen that was the first AG doll I had ever seen in person, and it’s how we met–and now Liz.
Oh, it’s just so good to have our blog back to normal, and all our chatting back and forth! I really missed it!!
Oh Charlotte, no worries about being late! I did wonder where you were, and hoped it was just something that came up, but here you are and I quite understand why you forgot! A call from grandkids trumps anything else! I hope they are adjusting well after losing their mother. How old are they?

Hi Linda. These two grandkids are 19 (Lily) and almost 25 (on Tuesday–Isaac). Isaac is working hard to provide for his sister, who has a handle on a new job soon. I think they are hanging in there; so glad they have each other, anyway. (The main thing of Ron’s that Isaac wanted after he died–they had talked about it, even–was his Bible. I haven’t asked lately, but I hope he’s taking some time to read it now and then. He is turning into a pretty nice young man. He flew out here to be a pallbearer for Ron.)
I will see if I have a picture of Molly in her cowgirl outfit and send it to Jeanne. If not…Halloween is coming soon, so maybe she will be a cowgirl this year!!
