It’s ALL about those American Girl dolls… AND a few kitties!

Hi everyone,
My weekend was too busy and Rebecca is laying in the same spot she was on Friday. I did try to figure out what I was going to make for her head covering, but nothing was made yet.

Our Hayride/Taste of America, that was going to happen on Saturday evening, was postponed because of the 80% chance of rain. It was supposed to rain right when we would be setting up, so with a lot of phone calls made, it was planned for Sunday night. As I write this on Sunday afternoon, it’s sunny out and 55 degrees. The evening is supposed to be in the low 40’s. It will be chilly, but it beats the alternative of carrying an umbrella around. We just told everyone to bring a warm jacket. It will be late when we get home, so I have already planned something else for Monday, but will try and show my pictures from the evening Tuesday if possible.

I did have 2 ladies who saved the day for me.

First up is Paula… she got a new doll! (EVERYONE CHEERS!) She’s an American Girl doll, #21.

I was hoping to change her clothes but have been so busy. I brought out about 6 AMG dolls and clothes to California (a lot of yours) but they’re not all unpacked. I miss my doll room and what’s in it, so when we came back out here, I made an area in a room for some of my dolls and accessories. And after just purchasing this doll, I had her sent out here instead of to Ohio. I just haven’t had time to dig out the outfits yet still in boxes I sent out here. I decided to just take a picture of her even though she’s still in her box.

Linda, now your Susan can have a twin in California! Maybe they can be pen pals.

Thanks Paula. I have looked at her several times before, and thought she was a real cutie. I loved her hair in the pigtails. Thanks for sharing!

Next up is Laura with something for the kitty lovers on here.

Hi Jeanne,
I know these will be late, but I was too busy yesterday to get them sent. Hopefully, the Sofa Sisters won’t mind.

First is Sir Oliver Knightley, known only as my precious Ollie most of the time. He is a Black Bombay kitty, also called a Parlor Panther.
Just him and with some seasonal toys.

He rescued himself by showing up a few days before I was catching my precious Dancer Tuxie boy and being pure black and October, in he came.🥰🤣😹🐈‍⬛

This is the costume I submitted to the AGPT doll board contest two years ago and won.

Milagros “The Knight Stalker”

And this is the one I’ve submitted for this year’s contest.

Galilee “The Copycat”.

Thanks for letting me share them.
Blessings!
Laura

Laura, I bet your kitties are the most spoiled cats I know! Alos, I bet they are the most LOVED! :o)
Thanks for sharing them with us!

I’ve got to go stir my caramels to make sure they are smooth and melty! See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Rain? We never had rain Saturday night! It was nippy out when we went to church Sunday morning, but we didn’t have rain that I could see. I hope last night was good to go for you, Jeanne! We will be looking forward to some pictures!

Well, Paula, your new doll is absolutely darling, if I do say so myself! Yes, Susan is one of my very favorite dolls, and Molly’s friend, who always shares in her adventures and scenes. What are you going to name her? She looks brand new in her box, although she has been retired severl years now. Has she been sent to the doll hospital, siince the white box is what they use to sent them back after getting refreshed. You will love dressing her and her hairdo is darling!

Laura, your kitties are adorable! I had a kitty that looked almost like your Dancer, and we named him Boots. He was the most loving cat you can imagine! Ollie looks beautiful sitting on his “throne”! What a regal cat!

I love your dolls in their Halloween finery! That drress in the first picture is just beautiful! I have never seen that anywhere! Did you have it made? This year’s contribution is really creative! I hope you win!

    1. Oh dear! Charlotte hasn’t chimed in yet, and I hope she is ok. She mentioned that she fell in the last blog, so I am hoping she gets back with us. Get well, Charlotte!

    2. You know I’ve been looking for this doll ever since I saw your Susan!! To have finally found one was so exciting. I love her puppy tails – she just looks so sweet.
I always enjoy seeing your group pictures- one of these days I can maybe do a school scene!

    3. Thank you so much, Linda! I appreciate the sweet comments on my kitties. Boots is a cute name. Tuxies are so dapper and Yes, Bombays are a very regal cat. Both of them are super affectionate.

Thank you also for your kind comments on my costumes. No, I didn’t have that dress made. I had to get something different since I had submitted the AG Medieval Princess the year before and you aren’t allowed to re-enter. re-use the same one. It was this one.

If for some reason the link doesn’t work just type
Little Adventures Medieval Princess Doll Dress into Amazon. They have quite a few princess dress options.

  2. Charlotte Trayer

Poor Rebecca, lying there all forlorn, waiting for her outfit to be finished so she can model for us again!!

Rain? You want rain? WE got rain for Halloween–pretty much buckets of it, and thus only 6 trick-or-treaters. But the best one was the first one–my great-grandson, Skyler, with his mom and dad!! Lots of hugs and kisses from the little guy, and hugs from mom and dad (dgs Eric), too! That made an otherwise terrible day (read on) turn out just right.

I am another of the sofa sisters who has AG #21! That’s my April Eleanor!! I just love her. Paula, yours is really beautiful. What are you going to name her? Or maybe she’s already told you her name?

Laura, your cats are lovely. When I was growing up, my brother was severely allergic to cats, so there were never any cats in our house. We did have dogs, as Paul didn’t seem to have much allergy trouble with them, and of course Ron and I had a couple of dogs earlier in our marriage. So, no cats here, but I have known some really sweet cats that friends owned over the years.

The costumes are wonderful. Love the play on words, with “Copycat”!!

Now…a few of you did go back to Friday’s blog, where I made a late post about my “adventure”. This is what I wrote:

“I fell this morning (10/31) and ended up going to urgent care. I have a broken toe, but a lot of pain and numbness in my foot, so I think I may have damaged a nerve. I see a podiatrist on Friday.

“So….no lunch with Marika today nor dolly pictures.”

Then I added about Skyler coming for trick-or-treating. And on Saturday my two youngest grandsons, Alex and Jacob, came for a visit! Daniel came while they were here (he’s been down every day since my fall, and even stayed Friday night), and I sent them out for sandwiches from Subway, and we all had a late supper together. So, despite the injury, it turned into a pretty good weekend!

I didn’t go to church Sunday but Daniel came down, and I drove and he ran my errands for me so I didn’t have to get out of the car and do a lot of walking. He even toted my laundry up and down the stairs for me!

I’m happy to report that my foot is less painful and less numb; however, it is starting to get “colorful”!! 😂 Of course, I DO like purple….

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Charlotte, I am glad your toe is better. I am glad you had help with you errands.

    2. Hi Charlotte, I didn’t realize you had a #21 – April Eleanor. She is such a cutie. What other AMG girls do you have? I forget some you have mentioned.
I’m sorry to hear you fell and injured your toe/ ouch! Hope it feels better each day – yes, the bruises start showing up. And, glad your son is such a big help for you right now.
I have fallen 3 times over a period of time and the reason is my sketcher tennis shoes! I’ll be walking and all of a sudden, my shoes stop me short, and there’s no catching me. Fortunately, I had people with me but my shoulders and arms have suffered. We also think my right wrist was injured during one of these falls – surgery will be in January.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Paula, my Sketchers shoes do that to me too! At least I haven’t fallen, but yes, they do “stick” to the floor sometimes!

    3. Oh, Charlotte, I am so sorry to hear about your toe. I broke my toe once as well and walking and doing things was not easy. I hope it gets better quickly.

Thank you for all the sweet comments on my kitties and costumes. I was very happy when I thought to do a copycat since it fits my kitty love theme so well.

    4. Charlotte, when I text, I’m always making mistakes. I get some of my mistakes, but some of the misspelled words turn into whole sentences that have nothing to do with what I’m texting about. !! It makes me wonder who is really texting? Ha ha!
I’m referring to my message below, I just wondered which AMG dolls do you have?

  3. Oh Charlotte, a purple toe 🦶🏼. Ice is good but heat is too, for circulation.
Sorry, being an olden nurse, I just can’t restrain myself from giving unsolicited advice 😂 I cracked my baby toe a zillion years ago tripping over my vacuum cleaner. I was working full time as a nurse and yes, it was horribly inconvenient

Jeanne, I hope your festivities and gathering were a lot of fun. It is so fortunate you could reschedule!

Paula, your new girl is beautiful! I love everything about her.
I just got the AG seasonal catalog in the mail and looked over the pages. They don’t put prices in the catalog anymore, that is amusing. I am amazed they have a car and a motorcycle now. Mattel and Disney just can not restrain themselves. 🥹

Laura, your kitties are adorable. I love them. I love kitties and yours look excessively pampered and loved.

    1. Thank you so much, Rosemary! Yes, my kitties are indeed “excessively pampered and loved”. The dogs we had first were just the same.

    2. Thank you Rosemary- Katie is so pretty and cute.

I noticed that the AMG magazines don’t show the prices too. I don’t get it?

  4. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, thank you for sharing photos of Paula’s new doll and Laura’s cats.

FYI – UFDC (United Federation of Doll Clubs) has a Zoom club for American Girl doll collectors. You can reach out to Regional Director, Joel Hoy, at ufdcrd5@ufdc.org if you are interested.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Laura, you are welcome. I don’t belong to that club. I only have one American Girl Doll, Addy. I do have a few other 18-inch dolls, though. I am getting ready to donate them to a friend who is starting a house museum.

I have: Journey Girl, Key To My Heart, StarDust/Just Pretend, My Imagination, StarPath, Espari/Lotus, Magic Attic, and Madame Alexander’s Favorite Friends.

  5. Joy in northern CA

Sorry that the big student event was postponed, but looking forward to some pics of it from last night.

Paula’s #21 looks so sweet standing in her box. Hope she gets a out soon and gains a name too. Congrats! She’s a cutie. Thanks for sharing Paula and Jeanne. ‘
So fun to see a couple of Laura’s kids. Oliver and Dancer are wonderful. In fact, as a child, I had a kitty that was my first pet. He could be Dancer’s twin. His name was Flicker. Because I loved Flicks candy. 🙂 I loved all of the Halloween costumes, but that Copycat, is clearly a winner. Thanks so much for sharing the great pics Jeanne and Laura.

Sorry to hear about Charlotte’s accident. Nothing can be so bothersome as a broken toe. Hope it heals quickly and the pain subsides soon. Glad you had such fun trick or treaters. 🙂

We have rain headed down from the north on Tuesday night, so other person was back to deck railing repairs yesterday. Very tedious to replace something that was installed so many years ago. I did yardwork and of course, that is unending. We’ll see how it goes today.

Other person found an old photo the other day and we were both laughing. It’s one that I took of him, my dad, and his dad all up on the roof of our house back in 1985. Other person had taken off a week to put on the new roof and the dads joined him fortunately. Well, ended up being a lot more difficult as there were a couple of layers to remove first. Glad they could help as other person’s vacation was over and he had to go back to work with the roof unfinished. Both dads kept at it though and other person helped after work until it was finally done. No more leaky roof. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, Joy! How neat you had a Tuxie as well and what a cute name. I appreciate the sweet comments on my kitties and costumes.

  6. Thank you Jeanne for sharing my picture of #21. That was quick and I’m glad you were able to use them so fast. And it is nice to share with Laura and her beautiful kitties.
Sorry about the switch in your fall event but it sounds like it worked out!

To all those who asked questions about the AMC #21 – I was lucky to find her, and she was mint in her original box! She’s no longer #21 but rather a sweet little girl from Scotland and her name is Katie Skye Lochlan. She is good friends with Molly and about 5 other AMC girls and I’ve made their era the 50’s. I have enough of Molly’s jumper sets for school uniforms! She was expensive but I had a gift card from eBay from my son and my I made it an early Christmas gift from my husband! He was okay with that!
I really loved Linda’s Susan and had been looking for just the right one. Still need to go through the clothes yet and choose something just for her.
Thank you girls for your comments on Katie.
And Laura, you do have the most beautiful kitties. And I’m glad they live with you- always loved and protected. And your costumes – I just realized the armor is made out of aluminum foil!! How clever- did you make it? It’s fabulous!!

    1. Thank you so much, Paula! Yay!! I was hoping we would share the limelight for today and we are!
Love seeing your Katie again and I love the middle name you’ve chosen. Obviously, a tribute to the Isle of Skye. See. I told you everyone cheers when a new doll arrives.
Thanks for the sweet comments on my kitties. Yes, they are very loved and protected.
Yes, the armor (that’s Gilead under there) is aluminum foil. I was thinking how to “sew” a knight costume and then the foil idea came to me. It was very easy to just mold around the doll and then I only had to make the helmet and shield.

  7. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Well, I am late today. I read and saw from Jeanne, then I had a phone call from my son and couldn’t write before we got ready and left for the Y. I have enjoyed all your notes and loved the new doll, Paula. I think she is one of the pretties AG I have seen. Happy for you!

Laura, your kitties are adorable and it LOVE Dancer. He is so black!! Your outfits are great! So smart to make the armor in foil! and the “Queen” is lovely. Your copy cat should win as well. Such a great idea. Thank you for sharing!

Charlotte, I hope your toe is better today. So nice that you have help, what a loving group! I was running to the phone in the dorm when I was in collage when I hit my little toe on the door edge. It hurt like crazy, so I know how you feel. I couldn’t wear my shoes and had to wear flip flops in mid winter going to class with a purple toe. I hope yours is much better soon.

Thank you for the photos, Jeanne. Looking forward to seeing your photos of your party.

    1. Thank you so much, Sissy! I appreciate your sweet comments on my kitties. Actually, Ollie is the pure black one and Dancer is the Tuxie ( a dancer in a tux with tails).

I’m glad you loved my costumes as well. They were fun to make. A creative diversion is always a good thing.

  8. Barbara in SE Texas

Such beautiful kitties. And I love their names. And the costumes are perfect. I love the Copycat theme and the Knight Stalker is hilarious.

Jeanne, I hope your hayride/food festival went well. Being from the northeast, 40 degrees for a hayride was welcome, especially if a lot of people were onboard.

Hubby had totally lost the hearing in his one ear so he went to the doctor Friday figuring it was probably needing cleaning. This has been a problem of his forever but he just assumed he was losing his hearing so he hasn’t kept up with it like he used to. He should have because it took a major effort to get the job done causing a lot of trauma to his one ear. When he came home I asked him if he wanted to take something for pain in inflammation. He said no. By the end of the afternoon he and I were both back at the doctor. Me because he could not drive, him in mortal pain. He hates pain and panics when he is in pain and wants an immediate fix. Then he was convinced he had a major infection. I said it was too soon for that. Like he took a pain pill ten minutes ago and it’s not working. The doctor checked out his ear and everything was good except the pain and inflammation. He gave him an oral antibiotic and drops for his ears just in case and told him to take something for the pain and relax. They had put so much water in his ear that it drained for two days because he sleeps sitting up so it couldn’t drain. Finally he listened to me and tilted his head and sure enough it stopped shortly after that. When he feels well he is amazing, when he doesn’t he focuses on it. Fortunately he feels well most of the time.
