Hi everyone and happy Monday,
I thought you might like to see our resident-over-achiever-costume-designer…. ROSEMARY and what she came up with for her costume for the neighborhood Halloween party!
Dear Jeanne, I hope you and George are doing fine and George is feeling good. I hope you are getting sunshine. Sunshine is so good!!!
Yay, Halloween is over. Ours was pretty quiet… well, no trick or treaters in our old people neighborhood. So, Rex and I went to a small “party” with a section of neighbors around us. It was not very well attended but that is okay. It actually makes it less noisy, confusing and chaotic with only a little over a dozen people. Amazing how when we get older and all talking together and laughing and distracted, we have to be careful not to fall and break a hip! 🥳
Each of us brought some food. I had some frozen mini quiche things from Costco, and added a spoon Rao’s marinara sauce on top of each little quiche and some mozzerella on top before baking them. I also made rice krispies treats. Other people brought yummy snacks. All of us gobbled up all of the snacks. The gathering was held on the trail behind our houses and we had a fire pit and another table marshmallow roaster kind of fire thing too. I have not had toasted marshmallows in years!!! They were so yummy. Ingredients were available to make s’mores but I just ate the toasted marshmallows.
I know some neighbors took photos of those of us that dressed up. Everyone made some effort.
Of course I over did it and easily won first prize. When I get any photos, I will send them on.
Elizabeth and Joe were dressed up as an Orange CAUTION cone and Joe wore a reflective workers jacket. Others just wore some western wear, but there were some amazing masks of birds, and other cool things. I loved the efforts, and fancy cowboy hats too!
I admit, I made my costume very hastily, I went to Walmart on Friday afternoon, picked up a sweatshirt that was YELLOW because I thought it would dye easily. There were no Green hoodie sweatshirts in any of the departments, so I had to make some hasty decisions. I bought green dye too.
At home, I made a big tub of dye on the driveway, and put the sweatshirt in. Then I went upstairs in the storage room and rummaged through several boxes of Christmas decorations. I wanted to use the cheapo plastic Christmas balls I usually use outside or other weird ideas. I found them.
I sewed each one on, one by one, it was tedious and not so enjoyable. I used high-quality DMC floss, and that was kind of a dumb idea maybe (wasteful of high-quality sewing thread) I wanted to put some special wooden ornaments on the shirt but …. it was just a neighborhood gathering so no need to overdo and put precious ornaments at risk. So, this is it. I hope all of you get a laugh.
Hubbs took so many photos so here are the ones that turned out okay.
I love you and George and I love all of the Sofa Sisters.
I hope these pictures make you smile.
