Hi everyone,
It is the same around here, just as it has been since my hubby came home from surgery. It takes a lot of time to get things done, but I am making it work… but just no time right now to sew. Actually, my heart isn’t there yet, but hopefully soon. I did get some new pictures from Cindy and also from Karen, so they will be coming up soon.

Jeanne- I’m celebrating you this month with my RRFF doll in one of your outfits! It’s the perfect transition ensemble from summer to autumn. In September I’ll put on the matching skirt with some loafers and she will carry the basket of harvest vegetables you also created. Everyone: Jeanne created the romper, blouse, hat and shoes (plus a skirt and basket not seen)! Truly one of the best outfits from one of the best seamstresses in the whole world!
Thank you Jan… I think you let me know every year how much you love this outfit and each time I read your words, I get sentimental about it. It was one of my favorites to make and I’m SO glad you have been enjoying it. I’ll show your pictures and then maybe a few more that I have in my archived pictures. Is your doll, Evelyn? I really liked her and almost wish I had gotten her. She reminds me so much of my 8″ Betsy McCall doll I got when we were in Italy.

I added a waistband onto a gathered skirt and made a tab at the end of the band, so it reduced the bulk of the gathers. There is one snap to hold it in place. The waistband just meets the other end and the buttons are only sewn on for decorations… I didn’t want the shiny silver snaps showing when Stella was wearing it, so I left them off.
It easily stays onto of the back piece, OR you can separate it just a little bit and show the romper underneath…
BUT…that’s not all… you can turn it around so the buttons are on the backside…

I can see why you like this ensemble so much–it’s so versatile! You can mix and match in so many different ways.
Jeanne, maybe you should make something on this order again some time. Find a nice print to use for the romper and skirt, and then add the coordinating blouse, etc. If you need an idea to get you back in the sewing room….
Having been thru so many illnesses and surgeries with my own husband, I totally understand what you mean, about taking so long to get things done. Especially when Ron had the temporary colostomy; we never knew when that might need some attention, and although I got pretty good at changing the wafer, etc., it did take time! And, as a friend of mine remarked in an email today, sometimes the medical stuff can feel like a fulltime job! So, no hurry on the sewing. Just thought I’d throw the idea out there.
I am happy to report that in Spokane all evacuation orders have been lifted, and people are being allowed back onto their properties again, to quite literally sift thru the ashes to find whatever they can. People have found pictures, knickknacks, even the lady’s mother’s wedding ring! (Her mom had passed away some time back so this was especially poignant.) I think the fires are close to 100% contained now. At 6 p.m., one was 73% contained, another close to that and the third was 93% contained. Thank you for all the prayers on behalf of those affected by the fire. My friend’s property wasn’t touched (the lady I know from Expo who raises sheep).
It looks like I’ll be changing BP meds again–the new one they gave me wasn’t bringing it down enough but, more than that, it was bringing my pulse rate down too far. The nurse will be calling me before lunch to let me know what the doctors decide. (Of course, my own cardiologist is on vacation!!)
you are right Charlotte, the daily and nightly home medical care takes a lot of time, and being careful too.
I hope you can find a better medicine. Getting the meds right for you can be tricky and we get a whole new set of side effects.
The fires are so sad. It is just devastating for too many people
Oh Jan, what a sweet doll and she looks just darling on that outfit! Try as I might, I don’t really recall that outfit ,except the hat does look familiar. Maybe it was before I bought my Sara, and was not paying attention to RR dolls at that time, but that outfit is just perfect for this time of the year, and so versatile! It could even be a back to school outfit! Take the blouse off, and it is a sundress! I love the cropped pants too, perfect for a trip to the farmers market!
Is your doll Evelyn, the Fortune Teller? She. Is so sweet looking and I love her hair too!
Thank you so much for sending those pictures to Jeanne, and to Jeanne showing us hers too! After seeing Jeanne’s pictures, I am beginning to remember that outfit. Putting it on a different doll gives it different vibes, which is why I try that here and have my dolls wear each other’s clothes.
Charlotte, I am so happy to hear that the fires are getting co gained now and the worst seems to be over. We have friends who’s so. Lives east of Spokane and they, thankfully, did not have to evacuate, but it was scary for a time for them.
And the heat just keeps coming here! This weekend will be in the low 100’s with the heat index from 105 to 110! And no, this isn’t Arizona!
I’ve been watching your heat. We don’t seem to be getting it here at all. In fact, not sure we will even hit 79 today. I’m not complaining, but the tomatoes are not producing. Keep cool. 🙂
What a beautiful doll and outfit, Jeanne and Jan. I don’t remember this it may have one of the times I was on a trip or convention. I love it all from hat to shoes and the extra skirt. The colors are just gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing.
Charlotte, thank for sharing the good news about the fires. I hope where other fires are burning they are getting controlled. I hope you get right with your doctor.
Peyton has to go to the dentist this am so I think I will work on some silver things I have neglected and also today is the day I make the cookies for our church free meal tomorrow. We will have breakfast when he gets back and he will be refilling the birds foods. I will be getting my hair trimmed this afternoon, then get dinner going. What an exciting day, LOL! I am just grateful that we can get around as we do at our age!
Jeanne, I know your life has been so different these days but you are such a good person and will do every thing right. So many prayers are going up that surely things will get better soon, please God.

Jan, your weather is too hot! Do you have high humidity too? Here in Northern Virginia “it’s not the heat, it is the humidity” is quite relevant. We have had temps in the 90’s but they are taking a dip for a few days starting today, Those tremendous storms move from Michigan and Ohio and then go straight down to Tennessee or hit the western part of West Virginia. They are getting pounded!
I am kind of for all of those in that area just getting pounded.
Jeanne, I am happy to know that life is calm for both of you. Let us know if there is any way we can help. I am so happy you are finding a few moments to post others shared treasures and photos. We are all feeling content. I hope George is getting around a little. Hopefully using a walker or rollator just for safety.
Jan, I love your doll! Thanks for sending these pictures, You got a terrific treasure hand made by Jeanne! This outfit is beautiful. I love the fabric. It looks perfect for your dear doll.
Yesterday I made some banana blueberry bread that did not rise properly, I think I added too much flour. It tastes okay, not fluffy.
I also did a lot of sewing of “bow blocks” I was on a roll and did about 6 side parts, running them through the machine. I was also occupied with other random chores and thinking I was a great multi tasker on fire with focus. Well, all of the side blocks, I discovered in the evening had some misplaced corner pieces… and I did not notice any of this horror until I have all of the side pieces completed and started sewing on the ribbon parts…. and something did not look right. Today I will do some unsewing, well, a lot of unsewing. Then I will try to figure out what to do with the parts cut off, either start over and use the pieces to make a different block, or some other fix. Silly me.

I’m sure that George appreciates all of Jeanne’s nursing expertise. I sure hope that you have a helper coming in to give you a break now and then and are calling for some take out occasionally too. How is the hunt for a specialist going? Hope that you have had some responses from some of the best.
Jan’s outfit by Jeanne is a perfect style for this time of year. I’m so glad that she shared her cute girl wearing it too. I would love to have a jumper like that but in a navy print or just navy and a regular peter pan white blouse with puffed sleeves underneath that could be for now and fall as well. I’ve been searching for patterns. Thanks Jeanne and Jan for sharing today.
Yesterday, I worked under the upper deck clearing out everything and tidying up plant/weeds wise. It rather unnerved Callie Cat who was up on the deck above. She couldn’t figure it out. She kept hanging over the edge and meowing at me below. I wasn’t in the proper place, I guess. I really was doing the clean up for her as she has been picking up tons of those awful stickers in her fur. Of course, she is a kitty that doesn’t enjoy much petting so other than a quick pet and hoping that I’ve gotten one sticker before she makes a turn to let me know I had better stop, I haven’t been much help with her problem. Anyway, half of the under deck area is done so it will be on to the rest today hopefully. That spot is in the shade which is nice.
I forgot to mention that yesterday morning, other person cut down four huge overgrown juniper bushes at the other house while I trimmed back roses. Then, we cut up the juniper and packed the yard can there. But, all of the heavy trunk parts wouldn’t fit in the can so they are are in another can awaiting pick up next week as we had so much debris. Didn’t walk but I think we got in enough exercise. 🙂
And this morning, I received tracking for another RRed. She had to make the trip from Chicago to southern CA, after her arrival from Hong Kong, but I suspect that she should be here in a couple of days. She is the one that I would like to dress in that navy jumper and white blouse for fall. I don’t think that I’ll be able to make a jumper/blouse in two days though so she might have to wear the outfit she comes with for awhile.
Oooh, you and other person are really getting down to business and accomplishing a lot! That is great! No pesky insects to nibble at you? The no see-ums love me and think I am a donut or something. Same with mosquitoes. So happy that both of you are keeping busy and for the neighbors “looking busy” … no mischief from either of you!
I am excited about your new RR coming… probably by Friday I hope!

Well, we are drying off after the huge thunderstorm Monday night and the absolute downpour yesterday morning for almost an hour and nearly all day of rain yesterday. It was most welcome though and now things are fresh and look green again.

Joy, your comments about the tomatoes surprised me, I guess we have developed seed that works for NZ. If we relied on regular temps above 30C we wouldn’t have any tomatoes in the garden! 30C is really hot for us, usually our summer temps are between 22 and 25C. 25C is about my limit. anything over that is getting too hot. At 30 I turn on the AC and draw all the curtains to keep out the sun. Over that and I melt! Rosemary, we rarely get humidity in Christchurch, though they do in the N. Island, particularly Auckland and Northland. I can’t wait for summer, I am tired of wearing winter clothes.
Jan your doll is gorgeous, she is so pretty and Jeanne’s outfit is wonderful.
Well, I did go to the pool yesterday. I got there at 1.15pm and I wasn’t allowed in until 1.45pm as there was an Aquacise class going in the Hydropool. The swim pool is too deep and too cold and the other pool which is mainly for the children anyway was full of school children having swimming lessons. I sat in the spa for 1/2 an hour which is 15 mins more than you are supposed to (for health reasons, not pool rules). I plan to go again tomorrow (Friday) which will make the physio happy, she was really pushing me to go back. I used to be able to swim quite well but find I can’t now, (which is why I don’t like the deep water) it is like being 8 or 9 again. I thought it was a skill you never lost like riding a bike. I guess it is another aging thing.

Interesting about the temp and tomatoes. Usually, the tomatoes here would be ready in gobs, but nope. We’ve gotten a lot of cherry tomatoes, but only a couple of other larger ones. Yesterday, I cut the concord grapes. They smell so good when ripe. Now, usually, they don’t ripen until September. But, like the wine grapes here, they are early too this year. Glad I was able to save the grapes because the whole vine somehow came loose from the fence and kind of fell over. We think it was a racoon or possum that did the damage, but not sure. But, I hooked the vines back to the fence, and hopefully, all is well.
Whoa, Anne, I have not been in a pool in ages. I do not own a swim suit. I hope I can still swim. …. maybe it is like playing the piano, you get kind of sloppy if you do not play regularly (that would be me). I used to swim quite well too. I hope you make it back. I would say, at present we have very warm weather and humid.. almost 90º or 33ºc and it was quite a lot warmer last week! I hate that kind of weather and I am so grateful for central air conditioning. We do not keep it freezing cold inside our house. Often depends on the humidity, but we like it at 76º or 78º inside… any colder and KittyPrincess starts crying.
I hope you have warmer temps from here on out.
