Just a simple request… could a couple of you try sending me a quick email with just a random simple comment using the “Contact Me” tab at the top of my blog post? I’m trying to figure out something and need your input to see if it is working for everyone. Thanks!
Well, well, well… I finished the dress part of Felicity’s newest outfit! I can hardly believe it! She looks very pretty in it and wanted to show you what a “real” Colonial girl would have looked like 250 years ago! I really wish I could have gotten this totally finished in time for the Celebration of America, but that didn’t happen, so it will just have to be “Another Pretty Dress” hanging in Felicity’s closet waiting to be worn on some special occasion.
Let’s see what I did:
I hemmed her dress by machine since my thread matched perfectly. If it hadn’t, I would have hemmed it by hand.
I found some silk ribbon in my stash that worked very well with the French knots I made around the neckline and added dainty little bows to each sleeve.
Felicity’s hair had been pulled up in a clip and when I let it down, she looked so pretty, so I just pulled it back away from her face on each side and added a clip at the back… (just for now!)
This is what she looks like from a distance.
I found a slip I had previously made and put it under her dress. It’s pink, but it has the right amount of fullness to hold her dress out wonderfully.
She does look very Colonial now, don’t you think?
I’ll see what else I can come up with…

I tried a random email thru your “contact me” button, and it didn’t work. At the bottom, in a little box, it said, “Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.” I tried clicking the button three times, and the same thing happened.
Felicity’s dress is just lovely, and the bows on the sleeves are just the right color. I doubt she would have worn a tulle petticoat (I think it might have been muslin or even flannel, in the winter) but this one is pretty and it does a good job of holding her skirt out the right amount, so I would keep it!
It’s nice to see you getting back into your sewing room again. I take it your neck is somewhat better?

I love Felicity’s dress! While the petticoat would not be what she wore back then, it certainly does the job! Beautiful dress on a beautiful doll! Maybe a little pinner hat to go with it?

Didn’t know what to expect today, and what a thrill to see Felicity’s dress in it’s finished state. Good job Jeanne. The slip was a bright surprise, but I’m sure that Felicity loves it. What girl wouldn’t? Now, on to photos in the yard and listing, but watch out for those carpenter ants. I didn’t try the contact button, but figure enough have without success. Always something seems to happen. Life, I guess.
I was back at it digging out some tough weeds yesterday and was watching a mud dauber wasp land and gather adobe for it’s nest somewhere. Very interesting to watch. Brings me back to my childhood when I would watch ants for hours, according to my mother. She thought something was wrong with me. Who knows, maybe she was right. 🙂 Anyway, I looked up the dauber and found that they are very helpful if you don’t like spiders. because they capture them, paralyze them, and then stuff them in their nest for their hatching larva to eat on. I hope that the one I saw finds a lot of spiders around the deck as spider webs keep returning everyday after I sweep them away. 🙂
I checked this morning on my Jolli Ruby Red kids and they are now up here in Newark. So, that means a delivery very soon. Maybe tomorrow. I’ll send Jeanne a pic when they arrive. I think they are pretty cute.
My parents thought there was something wrong with me too. Whatever…🙄 we are still behaving.
Cool thing about mud daubers. I am not sure what is going on way up on the neighbors fascia on their house – some kind of nest…. I severely detest spiders. The only ones I can tolerate are the super tiny ones that are about the size of a molecule. haha

Thanks for the info on mud daubers. I get them in my garage and get tired of breaking up their nests when they are on something I don’t want them on but I didn’t know about the spider thing and I’ve got plenty of them. I know mud daubers are not harmful so am okay sharing garage space with them but not so much the wasps that tend to look similar.
I too ordered a Jolli, Uma. Can’t wait to get her. I also ordered her a pink pleated skirt and pretty white blouse.
Uma is arriving here soon, hopefully. I know that I bought her a sweater and some shoes. I don’t think that I saw the skirt/blouse. I’ll have to check again. Hope that you can get a pic when yours arrives. 🙂 The mud dauber wasps here can sting if provoked, but they don’t attack or bother you at all. Unlike yellow jackets which I detest!
Here it’s red wasps and you really don’t want to mess with them. I had Morning Glories that were growing up the side of my house and I was going to pull them down. Sean said mom you might not want to do that right now. When I looked closer I could see they had made a nest in the Morning Glories. Those darn things will nest anywhere and they are mean.
I don’t think we have those here. Good call from your son. We have a lot of the paper wasps that make the round hanging nests under the eaves, but they don’t attack. 🙂
Love Felicity’s ‘colonial’ style dress! I’m in process of consuming (via the Audible app) a long book about the American revolution and Felicity’s dress makes me want to make one for myself 😀

My Felicity needs some attention to her hair. I did find her little curls in the front near her face. Maybe it is good that they stay hidden most of the time so they are protected from getting frizzy.

Felicity’s dress is just beautiful. Scratch all my comments about the collar. I ‘m sure it was just the super close up that made me look twice. Love the bows on the sleeves. I always like that touch. Felicity looks very colonial until you get to the shocking pink tulle petticoat. LOL We always knew she was a rebel though. Believe it or not, she might have had something close provided she could have gotten it from England though I doubt in a vibrant pink.

Felicity’s dress is beautiful. The bows really add to the darker color of the dress material. Love her pink netting underneath. Even though it’s a colonial dress, could it be used as a civil war dress? Probably better to stay with colonial.

Today I’m going to play Mahjong with several ladies in our neighborhood. I’m just learning and it’s quite an involved game, but I love the challenge.

We left home at 7am and are finally settled in to our place. Peyton is napping and I will join him soon. The group will be going out to eat later that usual for us, but maybe a nap will make it ok. The fun starts tomorrow with the boats. Praying for good weather.

I have been on and off the blog lately sometimes commenting but most times lately just catching up with what’s going on but missing a lot of good conversations. Trying to comment on things when it’s another day gets confusing so I’ll mention what I can remember.
Darning is definitely an art and my mom was good at it. But it takes patience. Most people don’t know that it involves weaving and not just pulling two sides together and sewing. Doing that would be painful to wear and cause a lot of blisters. I have a darning egg that has been handed down through my family. It has a handle. I’m going to see if perhaps it comes unscrewed to store the needles as someone mentioned. I never noticed.
Jeanne your backyard is a haven of loveliness and you and George must have hours of pleasure just looking at it. I love your Hibiscus. I didn’t have one with the large flowers and I lost mine during one of our freezes. How do you keep yours alive during the winter?
Charlotte, I am glad your car is in for repairs and that you have another to drive in the meantime. I loved the conversations on cars. Very informative and often hilarious. I love Snapdragons and yours are so pretty and colorful. My parents grew them in our yard when I was growing up and we kids used to love opening the “mouths” and hooking them on our fingers.
I have been somewhat out of commission lately due to PT and Chorale. It seems I have spent a lot of my days preparing for PT, going to PT and recovering from PT as well as relaxing so that I can go to rehearsal on Thursday evening. It’s amazing how little you get done when you are trying not to overdo things. But the concert was last Saturday and it went swimmingly. The man who records he concert and does our CDs also sends the music files to us through Google so I have had a chance to hear the concert. I was pleased. And for the first time in years Sean and his family were there as well as Jason and Stephanie and a couple from church who always come to the concerts. It was a dinner concert and the tables seat ten and we had ten so everyone at the table was my guest and that was fun for me. I’m glad for the moment to have one item off my agenda and hopefully when we start back up in September I will be more back to normal.
As for PT, I have a wonderful therapist that I hope I can keep for the duration. I’ve been approved for 16 additional sessions one of which was yesterday. My therapist is an amazing diagnostician and he has me do things to determine my progress and then adds things to help it along. Some nights I don’t sleep as well because of changes in my body but last night was pretty good and I’m beginning to notice the subtle changes necessary to get me back to normal such as I’m able to stand up straighter.
I love Felicity’s dress. Everything about the dress is very pretty. Can’t wait to see what comes next for this ensemble (since I’m sure it will be one).
That is great news to have more PT approved and that your therapist is a good one. Hope you see lots of progress. Excited for you.
Thanks, Joy. I’ll be glad when I get stronger and can move easier on my own and stand longer but I have 15 more sessions to have that happen and I have use of the gym during that time and will sign up for the wellness program after.
I tried the ‘contact me’. It said ‘thanks for your response’ but I couldn’t find it in my sent folder. I have tried again and I will check when I have finished my post.
The dress is lovely, perfect as always. It is a shame it wasn’t finished in time but I am sure your loyal customers won’t care, they will love it anyway.
I slept in this morning. I woke up to a light shining in my bedroom and it was the sun! It was 8.15. It is already 9.25 so I need to get moving.
