Hi everyone,
My back is better so I’m hopeful that “well” is just around the corner. Man, when your back hurts, it affects just about EVERYTHING you do, or try to do! I hope and pray all of the back issues from all the readers on here, get resolved soon!
I have a few miscellaneous things to share today!
I sold the blue and pink swim suit today… YAY! I didn’t find time to get the other swim suits listed on Ebay… Boo Hiss! But kind of decided I am going to try and get a pair of flip flops made for the other suits… and actually had a pair of blue ones made for the suit that sold, but they only wanted the suit. Here are a few pictures of the flip flops.
Sunday, a friend at church brought me a present… I was SO surprised to open up the tissue paper and see it was a doll wig… A MONIQUE doll wig! A size 10-11 doll wig… that’s what size Mae wears! It was dark brown and curly and brand new… still with the net on it! Joy said she bought it for her Terri Lee doll but never used it!
So when I got home I tried it on Mae and it fits perfectly!
It’s different than what I have for her, so I was trying to think how can I use this and with what kind of an outfit.
It really has the curls doesn’t it? It’s a synthetic mohair wig by Monique and they are the BEST wigs!
I took the felt hat off Violette and put it on Mae’s head I think it will be cute with a Fall dress or jumper with a felt hat like this. I’ll let her curls frame her face and the brim of the hat.
My sister, Cindy, went to an antique shop while traveling, and look what she stopped to take a picture of; this Vintage Singer sewing machine.
Isn’t it cute?
My hubby got the chicks moved to the back of his shed, and I took some pictures, but forgot, they are on his phone, so I’ll have to send them to my phone to share them with you. It was nice to get the little cheepers out of the living room. They were making a mess with the shavings in the cage.
Well, I still have Anne’s pictures and Barbara sent some pictures today, so I’ll share those tomorrow and Monday maybe.
I need to get to bed…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I’m so glad your back is feeling better, Jeanne. Hope it continues. I’ve had back problems off and on–muscle spasms when I was younger, but the last few years it’s been my lower back, ever since Ron accidentally fell into me and knocked my flat on my back on the concrete. Yeah. That did it. (The next time I suggested he use his walker, he did!! 😂) And every now and then, it reminds me that it is still there, and then it’s time for a few more PT sessions.
Well, I was kind of wondering if you were going to make some of your flip-flops to go with the swimsuits. I have a few pair, and they are sure cute. I think I need to make some swimsuits now, too!!
What a wonderful wig for Mae, and yes, that hat is just perfect on her, with the curls. A back-to-school outfit would be nice. I have always loved jumpers so that would be my vote.
What a find! That is a child’s sewing machine (if you look carefully at the picture on the instruction book, it is a child using one). Those are worth a bit these days, I do think, and this one appears to be in wonderful condition.
By the way, Barbara, I responded to one of your comments on yesterday’s blog.
I read your comment from yesterday. Thanks. I usually have avoided patterns that call for elastic shirring but your explanation seems so simple I might give it a try now.
So glad you are doing better with your back, Jeanne!
Those flip flops are darling! Are you selling them, or pairing them with another swimsuit that you have already made? They would make a cute accessory for the swimsuits, and could be worn with other things . Of course, the price might go higher for the suits with them included?
Mae’s new wig fits her, not only physically, but also fits her personality! Yes, a cute little fall outfit for her with a hat, showing off those cute curls, would work very well! However, she really doesn’t look old enough for school, maybe pre-pre school? Is there such a thing?
That is a perfect little sewing machine for little girls, but to tell you the truth, I would be a bit intimidated if I received that as a child! It doesn’t really look like a toy, but the real deal. I remember getting a toy sewing machine, and you had to physically turn the wheel to do anything, plus the so called “needle” wasn’t really a needle, so you couldn’t really sew on it, just go through the motions. At least it was safe!😊
Hooray, your back is improving!! That is good.
Yes, I agree, back pain is draining!
Your bathing suits are going to be flying off the shelves!
Mae’s new wig is perfect for her. I have always loved brunette hair, this curly shiny one really appeals to her!!
The sewing machine is really cute, it says it is electric? This is really a teeny tiny machine. It looks like a treasure indeed!
Another warm day but not too bad in Northern Virginia.
I will attend the “craft and chat” again in the neighborhood, this time just sort of out of obligation, and I hope to find some more attendees that sew. ….
Then I will come home and play in my sewing space, maybe iron something!
I moved the two narrow (two feet wide) shelves that support my ironing “board”
and assembled that in my new sewing space. It looks great.
Happy Thursday already!!
Oh yes, the flip flops are very fancy! Such cute toes for these little gems
Good news, Jeanne, about your back! Prayers it will continue to get back to normal. So good to see you Mae, and want a great gift from your friend! Looking forward to seeing her wearing it with an outfit!
The tiny sewing machine is adorable! I wonder how much it cost! I would have bought it for my granddaughter!
Chick, chick, chick! I want to see the chicks!
I am still having to rest between doing stuff, but at least I can do stuff.
Yesterday I made some more peach jam. It is the kind you put in the freezer, no cooking. It isn’t that hard to make and it is so good! I also make strawberry freezer jam in the winter, when the good strawberries from FL come out.
The peach jam recipe is different from the ones that come with the box of stuff you add to make it thicker so if any of you would like the recipe I would be happy to share it. the Peaches are so plentiful and good this year.
Glad you are feeling a little better or at least well enough to make what sounds like delicious jam. I’d love the recipe. 🙂
I guess I wasn’t clear on how Jeanne was going to sell the swimsuits. So Ebay it is. 🙂
That was kind of Jeanne’s friend to gift her with a Monique wig. Mae doesn’t look bad with the dark hair, but the style reminds me of an older lady. My mother used to wear that style, and probably a similar hat in the 50’s. I like Mae with straighter hair and those little pigtails are awfully cute. 🙂
Loved seeing the baby Singer. They have gotten out of my budget range now though. I wonder what the price was on that one? Couldn’t see a tag.
Looking forward to the latest chick flicks from the shed. 🙂 And Anne and Barbara’s photos too.
Here, more nice cool weather. I haven’t made anything with the zucchini yet, as my stomach just hasn’t been in the mood. Maybe today. We’ll see.
Hard to believe that it is almost August. Everyone around here is shopping for back to school as school starts here soon. No longer is September the back to school time. Seems strange.
You’re remembering when we used to start school the day after Labor Day. I thought everyone did that but I could not believe it when I moved to Texas and school started in August, the hottest month of the year, especially in the days before A/C. It had something to do with the harvest. I think the kids started school in August then had off for a while for the harvest and then back to school. For a long time Texas was largely agricultural. Now most of the ag land has been taken over by developers yet the kids still start school in August, often mid-August, which is really bad for those participating in football and cross-country.
Yeah, when other person and I were growing up, school started after Labor Day. Except when farmers would contact the school district because they had crops coming in and needed help picking. That often happened and school would be delayed a couple of weeks. We were always joyous about that! Students would be out helping by picking prunes or apples. I know I picked prunes. Not fun. And other person cut grapes at one time. The starting school in August thing here started a few years back when they wanted to align the start and ending dates with colleges. So, now school ends by the end of May and starts up again in August. Of course, the warmest months here are August and September. Go figure. At least kids can wear shorts to school now. 🙂
So that’s why they did it. What colleges have to do with the start and stop of school for elementary, middle and high school I don’t really get and no one that makes the decisions ever asks those of us who don’t have kids in college what we think. It’s really hard trying to keep kids on task when the pools are still open for another two or three weeks and they have to sit in school all day and then do homework after. Sometimes I managed to get the kids to the pool for an hour or two before supper but unless you have regular access to a pool it costs too much to do this. At that time we lived in a subdivision where our maintenance fees paid for the pool so we could go whenever we wanted for as little or as long as we wanted without paying to get in each time Here in Sealy it would have cost each time we went but by the time they built the pool my kids were out of school.
I forgot to mention that only elementary – and I’m not sure all grades – are allowed to wear shorts here. A few years ago they allowed the high schoolers to wear shorts but with restrictions like knee-length, no spandex, etc. But the shorts kept getting shorter and spandex started showing up so the policy ended. Which we found out after we had bought Andrea several pairs of knee-length shorts to start school. We had a back-to-school shopping do-over that year.
Joy, I am with you on that head of curls on Mae. I think it perhaps be worked on a bit so it isn’t so heavy.
As for the peach jam, I will be happy to send you the recipe but can’t find your email. here is mine so just send it to me.

Several of my dolly girls have I Dream of Jeanne Marie flip-flops. They are so cute. Flip-flops with the swimsuits would be great but I guess it does up the price a bit. Mae’s wig is really cute, especially with the hat. I love the color of the wig. Can’t wait to see what you make her for fall.
I know what Joy means about back-to-school shopping. When I took Jaiden to buy her some shorts for camp almost all the shorts were gone and back-to-school attire had taken their place, even though it’s hot here until the end of October. School should not start until the day after Labor Day. One year Texas tried that and everyone loved it, but then they shelved that for the idea of having breaks throughout the year. I think they were shooting for year-round school. Problem was if you had children in the three different levels you couldn’t take a vacation because there was always a child in school. High school had to stick to the schedule for UIL which was the traditional school year but elementary and middle school schedules were all over the map. I think that stopped after about three years because parents were coming unglued and were about to descend on Austin with a vengeance.
Still very hot here today but we are supposed to get some relief for a few days starting tomorrow. The storms that were along the Gulf coast a few days ago went up through Chicago and back around to the Gulf again so we are supposed to be getting some rain from that tomorrow through Sunday. Our cooler temps will still be in the mid 90s but the heat index, which has been over 100 for a few days now, will be more like the actual temps. Better than nothing in July in southeast Texas.
In Wisconsin, they passed a law years ago that school COULD’NT start until after September 1st! Here in Arizona, my grandkids go back at the end of THIS month!! And my daughter (teaches high school) also starts SOME TIME in the next week!! (now where is that shock emoji?)
