The fountain is back together… the tomatoes are taking off… and Ten Ping looks sweeter than ever!

Hi everyone,
Well, it seems like everyone enjoyed seeing some dolls in the post yesterday (thanks so much Cindy!) … even if we didn’t know half of them, it was still fun to see sweet little faces in dresses longing for someone to fall in love with them and take them home. I hope some of them were bought today! :o)

I do have a sweet little girl in a pretty pink and white dress to show you. I’m still not finished, but I did get the bows added to her shoulders and a tiny little slip made. Ten Ping found this flowery pole in the props box and wanted to model by it tonight. I still have a few things left to do before Ten Ping’s set will be listed on Ebay…

I was busy helping my hubby with getting our fountain put back together… If you remember, back when we had that terrible ice storm a few months ago, we lost our huge Heritage River Birch tree…

… the branches were so heavy with the ice, they broke off and fell smack dab onto the terra cotta fountain we have in our courtyard. The fountain miraculously didn’t break or crack, but just broke apart where each section was attached to the one below it.

It has been sitting in the courtyard like this…

…even under the water from a thunderstorm recently that left us with our “cement pond” filled to the brim. You can also see the stump of where the tree was cut down. I took a couple pictures of where my hubby cut it down as much as he was able without a grinder. I took the yardstick we were using today and measured how wide the tree’s base was… over a yard wide. It was a BIG tree!

Well, it was pretty warm out today (in the 80’s actually) and my hubby decided we were going to try and get it stacked back together. When the branches hit the fountain, they must have pushed the blocks we had the fountain sitting on, down farther into the ground, because we had a crazy time trying to get the base of the fountain level… with much trial and error and “shims” we got it as level as possible.

My hubby was not happy I was going to show pictures of the fountain, WHEN HE HADN’T USED HIS WEED EATER YET! It’s been too wet…

There were 5 pieces of the terra cotta that had to be leveled each time we added a new layer…

My hubby used a silicone caulk to put it back together… he knows his caulks and this is the one he picked. When we got all the pieces stacked on top of each other, we had to quickly put the pvc pipe down the center hole and have it come out the bottom. It will have to dry before he can do more… the shims will have to be replaced with something that doesn’t show.

Then he can hook it up to the pump and make sure it works. The fountain needs a nice scrubbing… that will probably be my job..

One of the times when he went back to the garage to find something he needed, I took a few pictures of his raised bed garden… it’s just tomatoes on the right side and cucumbers on the left…

The wind was so strong recently, it was bending our fence and trying to break our boards, so he has them braced for now…

Who spies Reuben? The hens? They were both curious when we were outside today.

Well that was my exciting day… hope you did something fun too! I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, Ten Ping’s dress is adorable! The shoulder bows give it a sort of 1950s vibe, I think. So cute!

You and George made good progress on the fountain today. I’m so glad it was fixable; it’s one thing to just have to stack the pieces again, and quite another if any of those pieces were broken.

Soon we will be seeing pictures of fresh veggies on your table!! I love home-grown veggies, but I am certainly no gardner.

Jeanne, those bows on Ten Ping’s dress are adorable, and make it look so special! How did you get the ribbon to stay down and not stick up when you attached the bows?

Those veggies are really looking good and you will be having some wonderful salads in the near future! Your yard looks so big, how big is it actually? Do you have more than an acre?

What a lucky turn of events that the fountain did not sustain any damage other than getting knocked over! It looks beautiful now, and I wonder if you ever had it hooked up with water?

Finally we are looking forward to a couple of days with no rain, but the Memorial Day weekend looks soggy, at least for us! We still don’t have the patio set up! This is ridiculous!

Left a note late yesterday. Maybe check out the doll I found. Still not sure if it is the same one you may have had. πŸ™‚

No Joy, my doll had more green in her outfit, but that is really am Ute one! Love her hair too!

  3. Wow, your property looks beautiful. Does the fountain sit in the “cement pond” or just elsewhere? I do see Reuben, he is one happy fella with his domain to survey and admire.
TenPings dress is so cute! I love it
The tulle your daughter found is perfect! I love it
This dress will be gone in a snap!
I hope all of you enjoy a happy sunny day. Here it is dark and rainy, and will continue into tomorrow evening. I will fill up my car for the zillionth time, no actually, it is the 5th time, but zillion might be attainable.
Hubbs picked out a washer and a dryer, that I approved of πŸ˜€ , to be delivered to the new house.

Dear Jeanne, Ten Ping’s dress is adorable.

It looks like you and George are really getting your yard back in shape. I look forward to seeing more photos.

I missed yesterday. I will go back and look at Cindy’s doll photos. I will be sure to send the link to my club members who enjoyed visiting the antique shop last year.

Love little Ten’s new dress. The bows are the icing on the cake. Well shoulders. πŸ™‚
So excited to see the fountain progress. Here I was thinking that it had cracked and needed recementing, but fortunately, only came apart at the seams. I wonder if George, in his search for caulking found anything that would glue back together a piece that cracked off from the fountain we have? Not sure what to use to repair it. Probably, something that repairs cement, but not sure. Maybe caulking works like glue? Don’t know. It is certainly not as elaborate as the lovely fountain at your place, but I’m thinking of using it to make a garden of sorts similar to those great ones that Susette has on her patio. Another project after the weeds are gone from around here. πŸ™‚
This afternoon, we’re off to get a second Covid shot. This should hold us until the fall since the ones we had last fall have lost their potency, as they say. They are recommending the second booster for those our age. In our 70’s. Maybe younger folks too and definitely those older.
Another warm day today, but I hope to get some more weeding accomplished. I’ll be so happy to see that full yard can disappear today. And the garbage company picked up out old water heater by the curb at 6:00AM this morning. So glad to get that out of here as well.
I wonder what Jeanne is planning for the next outfit? Will it be for a big girl, one of the tiny ones, or somewhere in between? Guess we’ll find out. πŸ™‚

I’m glad your fountain did not suffer any real damage. Terra cotta can be pretty unforgiving when it falls so I am surprised it wasn’t worse. You do have an amazing yard.

Ten Ping’s dress is the cutest and she looks so adorable in it. Can’t wait to see what comes next.

I am totally perplexed as to how someone (that would be me) can have boxes upon boxes of trims but absolutely does not have what is needed to embellish the dresses
I’m working on. My yellows are the wrong color for the one dress, my greens are the wrong color for the other dress and white will only work on the one dress and then marginally. I want to use what I have and not add to my “collection” of trims. I’ve settled on some buttons for the front of the one dress and a trim and bow for the front of the other but neither is what I pictured when I was picking out the fabric, which is already cut out so I’m committed. I think the dresses will be cute but not what I pictured in my mind. Usually if I can’t find exactly what I want I can find something that will at least work. This time I’m limited.

I’m on my way to the chiropractor this morning. I was sitting on Sean’s sofa watching a movie while grandkid sitting Saturday evening and that sofa does not work for me. Sean loves it so a replacement is not on the table. He said I could use one of the dining room chairs, but he has one of those higher tables so my legs dangle and that doesn’t work either. What happen to the days when I never had to think about what I sat on or how long I sat or stood. Hopefully I’ll feel better soon. Dionne and I are going for massages Friday afternoon (Mother’s Day gifts) so I’m hoping to be good to go by this weekend. Have nothing planned and it’s supposed to rain on the holiday but I hope to get a lot of sewing done – comfortably.

Wow, Barbara, I see two ways that we are similar when I read your note. I have the same trim problem you do! SO many ribbons and trims and have to stop by Hobby Lobby any way to find something that works.
Then there is your problem with the couch. Yes, I would sit on ours while hand sewing and watching tv and my back would scream when I got up. Then, several years ago when Peyton had back surgery, we had to buy a recliner. When he no longer needed it, guess who took it over! ME! and it is a life saver to my back. He doesn’t like sitting on the couch either so we ended up getting another recliner, but we are both happy, that is what counts.

Jeanne, of course I love Tin Ping’s sweet outfit! I can’t wait to see the hat! So good to see the shoes too. I love your yard and so glad the fountain is getting back together. George is so good an fixing things, and so are you. What a great pair!
