Miscellaneous Monday…

Hi everyone,
We are feeling a bit blue since my hubby’s younger brother, David, lost his wife last night. She passed away at home with David and their dogs beside her. We are still a bit numb to the news and it’s hard to even believe. We are asking the Lord to comfort David in a way he has never known before, and hope you’ll agree with us.

My hubby had his last surgery on Thursday and the surgery went well. We can actually see a difference in the swelling in his leg already! BUT… later through the night he had chills and a low grade fever around 101. We didn’t think it was due to the surgery because he said his leg felt pretty good. I woke up Friday and planned to go to the Food Pantry as I usually do, but my throat was a little raspy. I just decided it was something in the air, and went to work. I worked and felt okay the whole time I was working, but I kept having to suck on some throat lozenges to keep little coughs at bay. When I got home and sat down I felt awful… I felt all sluggish and clammy… so I did the few chores for my hubby he needed done… walking Reuben, collecting the eggs, and closing up the hens. I told my hubby if he was okay, I was going to go to bed. I got in bed at 9:30 and then I started having chills and a fever… again just a low grade 100+. I thought maybe I was just tired. Well, I had chills and a fever all night, until about 4:30 when I woke up drenched. I guess my fever had broken.

So we’ve both been under the weather for a few days. I have a cough with mine and my fever has returned tonight. I’m going to bed again and hope when I wake up tomorrow, I’ll be good as new…

There was no chance of me getting anything done in my sewing room, so I told my hubby I’d have to ask you all a question, so you can at least chat with each other today. I asked my hubby to think of a question for me… This is what he came up with…

“Now that Easter is over, what is the next project you plan on doing? Maybe one you WANT to do, or maybe one you DON’T WANT to do. Let’s see what everyone has on their plates…

I will see you hopefully Tuesday morning!
Blessings, Jeanne

O Jeanne, I’m so sorry to hear that your sister-in- passed away. What a hard thing for David and the rest of the Wiedlocher’s, after already going through another funeral recently. My prayers and sympathy are for you and George.

    I’m a
So sorry to hear of your and George’s bout with colds and what infections right in the middle of all this going on for you. Take it easy and don’t worry about us!

As far as the question of what we want do and don’t want to do, well, I still need to put my Easter decorations away, and outside, I need to get those doggone helicopters from the trees off the mulch and raked up from the yard. Trouble is, it keeps raining so you never can really get to the point of finishing anything. Looks like today might be good for outside work, although it will be ind the upper 80’s for us. Let’s hope I get somewhere in cleaning up all that mess!

    1. yes, those doggone helicopters everywhere, I did not know I was the only one annoyed by this nature provoked predicament. They look like cicada wings haha
I am waiting to mulch the back yard, hoping the wind will blow it all away, but honestly, I can mulch right over them. I mean, we are putting the house up for sale sometime soon. I need to get the agent out this week even though the house is still stuffed with our STUFF.
Either case, cleaning up those pollen and seeds is annoying. They do not change color or get nice and dark, no! they look like bits of hay haha

  3. All of you have been on my mind this past week-end with your dear sister in law, losing her hubbs
last week, and now this so shocking news! Oh so so sorry. 💔💔 I wish I could run over and help! It sounds like George picked up a germy bug and you did too. Stay low and quiet this week focus on rest and hydration (old nurses…. we are so annoying aren’t we?) Gatorade is good. go slow.
This is not surprising, Jeanne, there are a lot of little sneezy, fever, coughing headache germies going around. Sometimes we do not think we are sick, just tired, or pooped! but there are some head colds lingering, I know so many.
Additionally, grieving is acceptable, and you are embracing it. that right there is very mentally exhausting.
I wish I could come and help. Do the very minimum and please monitor each other. Do not hesitate to call the doc if you feel things are going down hill.
prayers and blessings for good rest

    Dear Jeanne,

I am so sorry for the loss of your dear sister-in-law. May God show her mercy and let the perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

I hope you and George get plenty of rest and take it easy for a while. J took the oldest two to work with them since they are still on Easter vacation, and then I think they are going to try to catch minnows. A and L have already informed me they have taken their afternoon naps (on top of the dirty laundry pile) and they seem to be glad that is taken care of. Ha. After I can set Dominic down, I am going to do battle with the wash.
May God hold you close and may the peace that only He can give surround you especially during these trials.

    Love and Prayers,

    Karen and Family

I remember those days, Karen! The wash is everything and takes up so much time, only to get dirty again! Someday you WILL get caught up, believe me!

And to the others, I tried to change my mistake above, to no avail, so please disregard it!

Oh boy, not what you and George needed at all. If I were to get a 100 plus temp, not good for an adult, I’d be on the phone with the advice nurse at Kaiser asking for information on recent outbreaks. But, sounds like you and George have whatever it might be under control. Hope for a quick recovery and that you both are feeling better even now.
And so very sorry about another death in the family. My thoughts are with you both and your relatives to the east.
On another note, my last minute order with Ruby Red, appears to be on the last plane out of HK. Well, to make it here before the tariffs begin if they actually do. So, I’ll be watching FedEx updates to see what happens today.
Now that my little 5.5 inch doll is onboard a plane, I need to find a pattern or two that will fit her. She is supposed to come with a pattern which should be helpful. Charlotte, already has her Dazzle, I think. I wonder if she is making her a dress?
We actually had some rain although not much, over the weekend. So late yesterday, I was back to pulling weeds. So much easier with the ground a little wetter. I’m almost to the artichoke plant! Hoping to cut all of the blackberry trying to take over there. We do love our artichokes. 🙂 And so many more weeds to go.
Take care and stay well everyone.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

You have artichokes! How great. I love artichokes but getting them from the grocery store is dicey. Having them home grown would be great. I know there are patterns for the AG Minis but you’re doll is even smaller than that.

    2. Charlotte Trayer

No, I don’t have my Dazzle yet, but she has been shipped! And, yes, she does come with a pattern. I will probably make something with it first, and then see what other patterns I might have that would fit. Being as she is so tiny, I may not make too many things for her.

  6. Susette from Southern California

So sorry to hear of your family losses. I know your presence was a comfort to all.

Please don’t hesitate to be seen for evaluation of the symptoms both of you are experiencing, especially given the recent procedure George had. Maybe a throat swab wouldn’t hurt just to make sure it’s nothing more serious.

I’ll be removing a Japanese maple tree from a container that has given up from one corner of the patio. The other three are fine. The orchids are close to being finished blooming for the year.

Evelyn the Fortune Teller doll is being mailed from Happily today, so looking forward to receiving her.

    1. Bonjour. Je l’attends aussi ,je la trouve superbe ;mais la commander depuis la France est un vrai sport ..! Les gens de chez Happily ,sont charmants et efficaces. Mais le voyage est long…

Jeanne, I am so sorry you have had yet another loss in your family. My prayers are with you and George’s family and may your sister-in-law rest in eternal peace. I am glad George’s surgeries are over and hope all is good to go with him from now on.

And I’m sorry to hear you and George are under the weather, and hope you feel better soon. I have bouts occasionally with 24-hour viruses. That’s all they usually last and I’m good to go pretty quickly. Hopefully you and George will be over your bouts shortly. You may have picked something up in the medical facility. I remember when doctor’s made house calls but since they no longer do that it has been necessary to drag yourself to the clinic and wait and wait to be seen thus exposing yourself to other peoples’ illnesses. It seemed every time I took my children for a well baby check-up they ended up bringing something home with them. I was thankful they were healthy and didn’t need to be seen often. One good thing that came with COVID was the ability to see your doctor remotely so you don’t have to show up in person all the time.

Projects, hmmm. Well Saturday I started a dress for my Mini Bella (Brianna). It was to be a cute dress with mock smocking. Things started out okay but when I went to use the decorative stitches on my machine they are not stitching out like they are supposed to. Have no clue why so I will have to take a trip to my sewing machine people and see what they say. They will probably try to sell me a new machine for a huge amount of money. It’s my Husqvarna Viking Ruby sewing/embroidery machine so I’m not in the market for a new machine any time soon. But the machine probably does need an upgrade. I just have to bring it to the room where my computer is to do this, but that shouldn’t have anything to do with the decorative stitches that are programmed into the machine. On top of the decorative stitching problem, I could not get the gathers tight enough to fit the bodice. After a couple hours of sheer frustration I trashed the dress completely. I rarely do this but this time no save was available.

So I started another dress, got it nearly finished, tried it on the doll and it didn’t fit. I had used a pattern by this person before but it was for a bigger doll and I had no problem. The pattern says it is for a 7-8″ doll but doesn’t give any measurements. On top of that the suggested seam was 1/8″. You can imagine what happened with that. Yup, the fabric frayed some and put paid to the seam. I usually don’t need to use fray check before I sew, but with a 1/8″ seam I should have known that was the only way it would work with the fabric I was using. Obviously it didn’t fit the doll I planned it for so I tried others. It was too small for my Heartstring dolls which are some of the smallest I have, but then I gave Tiny Betsy a try. I think I can adjust it for her but even she will need ties in the back rather than snaps or Velcro since it doesn’t completely close in the back, just almost. I might try it on my AG Mini dolls. Maybe with a bigger seam the pattern might fit them because it sure isn’t fitting any of my 7-8″ dolls.

Today I will start a dress that is made for the RRFF Mini dolls and Ten Ping so I know it will work. I thought the pattern was not dressy enough for Easter but some of the testers did make it to look more that way with dressy fabric and sashes, so I’ll head in that direction. I need to do something so Brianna will smile again. I promised her a dress and I don’t want to disappoint her again.

    1. Charlotte Trayer

Oh, my, what a frustrating sewing day you had, Barbara! On the dress where you couldn’t get the gathers to fit the bodice, it could be the fabric was a bit thicker than what the designer used; also, I have noticed some fabrics just don’t gather quite as tightly as others. I would jot some notes on your pattern and perhaps cut the skirt pieces slightly less wide next time.

And then that dress with the 1/8″ seams. Goodness! Not fun at all! I think I’d be tempted to redraw the SAs to a full 1/4″, so you’d have a little wiggle room. You can always trim them down to 1/8″ later, if needed.

If it makes you feel any better, I had to manually rethread my serger three times tonight! I finally figured out what was happening–where I first start the thread in my serger, there’s a little something inside right where the thread goes in (for each cone); when the presser foot is up, it releases so you can pull the thread thru, and when the presser foot is down, it closes to keep the thread in its track. The one for the lower looper wasn’t engaging as it should. Finally, that third time it did engage, and it’s working fine now!

Good morning Jeannie. I’m so sorry to hear you and George are under the weather. I pray you both recover quickly. I also pray George’s leg heals without any issues. I am so very sad to hear about your sister in-law. Even though it was very difficult, I am sure you and George are glad you were able to visit with her when you did. I certainly will keep David and you both in my prayers.
As for your question, now that Easter is over, I’m looking forward to our trip to see our oldest granddaughter graduate high school. South Carolina in May will be quite refreshing from our wet chilly spring weather we get here in Western New York. I’m sad to say that this trip will be difficult for me. I haven’t said anything to anyone because it wasn’t my story to tell but now that my daughter-in-law has mentioned it on her Facebook I feel ok sharing. My son and his family had a house fire a month and a half ago. They are now waiting for the house to be gutted and the rebuilding process to begin. Hubby went down right after it happened but because of my parents and my youngest grand I wasn’t able to go. He said it was absolutely horrible. The fire started inside a wall in the kitchen and around 130 am my grandson woke up to darkness, as he sat up, he breathed in smoke and ran to wake everyone. We praise God that everyone made it out alive!

Hoping everyone has a great week and gets to enjoy time outdoors. Hubby bought me a Kwanzan cherry tree so that’s on the agenda for today!
    Happy Monday dear SS
    hugs Ingrid

Oh, Ingrid, I am so sorry about your son’s home. Thank God that no one was hurt. I hope they will be able to get it fixed without too long a wait.

    2. Charlotte Trayer

Oh, Ingrid, what a shock! The Lord was really watching over your family, for sure! “Things” can always be replaced, but people can’t! Praying that all goes well with the reconstruction, and also your upcoming trip.

Dear Jeanne, oh my goodness, you have so much on you right now. I am going to accelerate my prayers for you and George.

I will just whisper 2 days. We can celebrate later in the month.

My project is chairing our doll club luncheon, which is really a tea. It will be on June 14, World Doll Day. The committee has finished most of the plans but there are a few things yet to do.

  10. Marti Wulfow Garner

I am crocheting clothing for my Ruby Red Galleria Lia (12″ In Motion Doll) I am using patterns by Lynne Sears for Ellowyne Wilde. I have to adjust the patterns, but they are working for her. I don’t sew and no one seems to sew for her.

  11. Jeanne, my condolences to you and George on the passing of your sister-in-law. And I hope you both are taking it easy after your bout of some sort of virus. Gain your strength back first.

My thoughts on what I need to do is my continual organizing of any place in our house that needs it. Downsizing at our age seems to be a normal job lately, done often. That’s part of my organizing, I guess. Some of it’s easy and some of it’s hard. A lot goes to donation places.

  12. I’m so very sorry for the loss of your sister-in-law. May God give peace and comfort to David and your whole family.
I hope George and you feel better very soon. Plenty of rest is the best for recovery.
Plenty of yard work here. I guess I’m one of the few that find the maple seeds enchanting. I always though of the seeds as fairy wings as a child. We have two maples so plenty of seeds. We don’t mulch around trees as I prefer the natural look of of them with grass to the trunks. They are so easy to just mow across in the grass where they tend to disintegrate.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Laura, I had to laugh when you said the maple helicopters are “enchanting”!
Not mine! They are ALL OVER, and do NOT disintegrate until maybe fall. I have to rake them up and then dispose of them. The squirrels do like the seed at the end of the wing part, but our neighbor had a dog that also liked to eat them, and had all kinds of problems with that. They choke on them. The grass doesn’t really grow around the trees here, because of the shade, and silver maples do not tolerate anything growing underneath them. I wish I had known more about them when we planted it, but it was a free tree that my daughter got from school on Arbor Day. I’m not sure if it is still,l done, but in Missouri all 4th graders got a tree to plant, which was nice, but I wish we had picked something else!

  13. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

My condolences on the death of your sister-in-law Jeanne. I am glad George’s swelling has gone down I hope it continues. Spring is often a time when lots of bugs decide on a last gasp before the summer! Take care of yourselves.
I have a very sore eye at the moment, and will probably have a black eye before the day is out. Here am I lying peacefully in my bed (fortunately with my eyes closed) and Pearl (the tabby) tore around the room, raced across the bed and her paw landed right on my eyelid! It’s amazing how heavy cats are when they look so small.
What I don’t want to do but really should before I go away, is clean up my workroom. Whether it gets done or not is debatable.
What I will be doing is planning what to take on my trip which is only a month away now. So looking forward to it.
    Have a great day

  14. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Oh, Jeanne, one thing is finished and other comes up. I am so sorry for your family losses. And now you both have the bug, same one that I had last week and gave to Peyton. He didn’t like the gift.

Finally we are back to the Y. it was back to Heaven for me to be in the water, but he had to get on the treadmill. No pool for him yet.

My plans are to finish the 2 sewing orders and then get to selling a lot of doll clothes and dolls.
God bless you and your family, prayers going up.

I am sending you my two pages of paper dolls with an explanation.

  15. Charlotte Trayer

Gosh, if it isn’t one thing, it’s another! (or three….)

I am so sorry about the loss of your sister-in-law. May God comfort all of you at this time of sadness.

Praying, too, for quick healing and a return to good health for you and George.

You know, I checked in last night, but it must have been too early as your new post wasn’t up yet. Then I got busy, and forgot to check back, so I am coming late to the game.

Project? What I did today–finished calling various accounts and getting Ron’s name off them. There were only five calls left to make (I think there were about 12-14 when I started last fall), and I decided I had put it off long enough. I had no idea how hard it would be. Even after 8+ months, it really hit me, and I had to take little breaks between calls. For the property tax, they said I could leave Ron’s name on the account as it would only mean one more piece of paper in title transfer if/when I sell this house, so I did. And one account we kept in both names but the bill comes just to me.

I still have a small smocking project to finish, and then to get back to a couple of the Missouri Star Christmas box projects I started earlier this spring.
