What does “The Flash” have to do with making doll shoes?

Thank you Dorothy L for supplying us the missing link to the rag dolls my friend has. I hope she found some interesting writeups about Edith Flack Ackley… I know I Googled her and found some wonderful dolls made from her patterns… Joy found a great video and I’ll post the link for it. I think we all learned something new today… except for maybe Dorothy! Thanks so much! :o)

Edith Flack Ackley dolls

I watched the video (You can move the slide bar at the bottom of the video if it gets too long for you…) and it was quite interesting… Now I’ll be watching to see if I see one somewhere… not that I need one, but there’s just something about learning about something you didn’t know and then finding it…

Okay… now about my title for today… Do you all know who The Flash is? He’s an action figure and that’s ALL I know… except he is a great helper to me in making Little Darling shoes. I searched and searched for shoe lasts (or molds) for the Dianna Effner Little Darling dolls and couldn’t find any…and when I did happen to spot some that might work, they were VERY expensive. They look like something like this…

doll shoe lasts

…and they help you shape the leather around the shape of the dolls foot…

Well, one day recently, I was in the Goodwill and saw these action figures… (remember Lizard Guard?)

He’s in the bushes now, but here are his legs after I broke them off his body…

His feet were almost the perfect fit for the Boneka 10″ dolls… I just had to round off the toe…and here they are finished…

Well, The Flash had boots on and they were the perfect fit for the Little Darlings feet…

Let me show you… Here he is standing on my island in the kitchen…

My finger got in the way, but here is a slightly better picture of him…

Here are the shoes I was making on The Flash!

They were a perfect fit and had the perfect rounded toe…

They work well with or without socks…

I’m such a cheap skate… but I can buy more dolly stuff that way… :o)

Well, that’s it… I was doing my business taxes today… ALL DAY… and I need some sleep…

I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Thank you for sending the link to that video, Dorothy L.! I will try to watch it tomorrow or the next day; for tonight, I need to get to bed pretty soon now, as I am falling asleep sitting up! I guess I’m tired!

No I can’t say that I know who The Flash is, nor LIzard Guard. He does make a good shoe model though!! Looking forward to what come next!

I’m heading to bed. Talk to you later.

I think Charlotte fell asleep before she signed off!😊

I know next to nothing about action hero’s, but have heard of the Flash somewhere along the line! He does make a good model for making shoes, and I see that a little “someone” is going to get a new pair and a pretty dress too!

I haven’t checked the video yet, but that’s on my list for today!

    1. Hi Linda,
I think Charlotte fell asleep too… I know I shouldn’t laugh, but I laughed out loud when I saw that last bit of jibberish…

Yup…and I didn’t see it till I looked tonight! Usually I do a better job of proofreading!!

    1. Hi Beth
I have just shown steps of what I’m working on but not necessarily a complete tutorial. There are LOTS of videos on You Tube you can watch… I have watched MANY or maybe all of them multiple times…

Love that green leather. Besides the big green day coming up Sunday, the shoes would work for a forest scene and of course the winter holidays. I picture them with red/white striped socks. Fun.
I did find the video very interesting when I sent it to Jeanne. It even shows some of the original doll kits that Edith made and sold. Her husband died young so she had to figure out a way to support herself and her young daughter.
I actually filled a can with weeds yesterday. So many more to go though. Spring has sprung around here. 🙂

  4. Good to see Lizard Guard is still being vigil! Ever so faithful! He looks so funny out in the bush!
And Flash is doing his job too.
Wonder who will be up next with shoes.

Charlotte must be very tired. Hope she got a bit of sleep.

  5. Thanks to Joy and Jeanne for providing a link about Edith Flack Ackley, I’m technologically challenged when it comes to stuff like that, lol! So I think the suggestion of a shadow box display was perfect.
Love the shoe results, once again “the Flash” and “Lizard Man” are on it doing whatever needs done.
    Have a good day all.

    1. Thanks Dorothy,
What a fun video and thanks to you, we ALL know about Edith Flack Ackerly!!
Lots of smart cookies on this blog!! You get an A+ from me!!

Joy thinks it’s spring. I’m looking out at about 10″ of snow, which is due to continue falling for the next 20 hours. There’s a small nearby park with a big grassy hill — we’ll have a street full of cars bringing kids with sleds. Trees at the bottom of the hill are padded to protect them and poor sled drivers.

Carbondale news! The April 8 solar eclipse will enter the US in Texas and exit through Maine following a path 4000 miles long and 115 miles wide. Carbondale is right in the middle of the 115 miles. Jeanne may get some good pictures for us.

And on to The Flash, who is a member of DC Comics Justice League, which also includes Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Here’s Wikipedia:

The Flash (or simply Flash) is the name of several superheroes appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert, the original Flash first appeared in Flash Comics #1 (cover dated January 1940, released November 1939).[1] Nicknamed “the Scarlet Speedster”, all incarnations of the Flash possess “superspeed”, which includes the ability to run, move, and think extremely fast, use superhuman reflexes, and seemingly violate certain laws of physics.

Thus far, at least five different characters—each of whom somehow gained the power of “the Speed Force”—have assumed the mantle of the Flash in DC’s history: college athlete Jay Garrick (1940–1951, 1961–2011, 2017–present), forensic scientist Barry Allen (1956–1985, 2008–present), Barry’s nephew Wally West (1986–2011, 2016–present), Barry’s grandson Bart Allen (2006–2007), and Chinese-American Avery Ho (2017–present). Each incarnation of the Flash has been a key member of at least one of DC’s premier teams: the Justice Society of America, the Justice League, and the Teen Titans.

Thanks for the Flash info. All those characters you mentioned were costumes that characters wore for Comic Con etc. on the Big Bang program. Sheldon and company loved them. 🙂

    2. Hi Marilyn,
I hope your snow has stopped or let up some…
We have had the absolute mildest winter so far… hope it’s done.
Yes, Carbondale is the Centerpoint for where the eclipse makes that big criss cross on the whole nation. And it was back in 2018 too…
They are expecting 100,000 people here.

Now I know about The Flash… and a few other Super Hero’s… thanks to you… good work!!
      Blessings, Jeanne
