Some “Green” from Sofa Sister Sissy…

REMINDER:
The Easter/Spring dress set I made for Kit (Kate) or Molly, ends this evening on Ebay. You can check it out by clicking the picture at the right side bar, or you can click HERE.

I’ll share just a little bit and then Sissy wonderfully sent some pictures of her girls dressed up in their St. Patrick’s Day attire. They look adorable… don’t miss them.

My sister, Cindy, sent a box to me… with guess what inside? Of course, fabric… these were some smaller prints she found and thought I might like… I do! If you click on the pictures they will enlarge.

Oh, I almost forgot… look what my hubby helped me put up… well, actually it was my idea, and I marked where to put the screws, but he put them up… I made these counted cross stitch pictures for my mom and just had them up in the attic… Cindy suggested I put them on the side of my pantry sometime… and today was that day.

My thumb is slightly better and I hope in a few days I can use a pair of scissors again! I used the “time off” to organize in my sewing room… just lightly using my right hand. I am still amazed at HOW MANY things you do that uses your thumb.

Marilyn told a story about falling off the bed and not really being able to get up, but having to crawl to a chair to push herself up… I’ve had to do that before… but Friday night when I fell out of bed… (I still can’t believe I did that) and hit the floor… I was in agony over my thumb hurting, but at the same time I got a charlie horse in my left calf and couldn’t get up for a little bit… It was a bad night all around…

It’s no wonder Susette knew that cake was a bowl of Ramen… I should have known she’d know the answer…
The cake is all gone now… it was TOO sickening sweet and RICH… the cake was chocolate, but the buttercream icing that was on the cake, was BLACK AS BLACK COULD BE. I guess it was supposed to be the bowl… Well, that was too much black dye for us… it was like black joint compound.

Barbara, I hope you enjoy your stroganoff as much as we did ours. We’ve made it with beef steak, but my hubby prefers it made with hamburger… and lots of garlic. It was so creamy and wonderful… I had the last of the leftovers tonight. Kristoffer took some home and my hubby said he ate too much last night, so he let me have what was left. It was yummy!

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Karen on her pregnancy! I bet your girls are SO excited…another sister or brother… If you have a boy, they won’t know what to think! :o)

One more thing… I am very delinquent in asking if anyone else wanted to say anything more about or Sofa Sister, Kathie, who recently passed away. I was going to gather up all your comments that most of you have already left and send them to her family.

I am trying to decide if I have time to do another doll dress before Easter or if I should just sell some accessories…

Okay… now it’s Sissy’s time to have to have the spotlight. These little outfits are so sweet on her My Meadow girls…

See, I told you they were adorable… Thank you SO much, Sissy! I hope your girls enjoyed showing off their St. Patrick’s Day outfits!

I will see everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I see you’re up to five bids on the Easter outfit now!!

How sweet of Cindy, to send you those fabrics! She must have somehow known you needed a little pick-me-up!!

What a nice way to showcase your counted cross stitch pieces you made for your mom! Those things do get more special with every passing day, and should be out where you can enjoy them!

Do you have a wrist brace you can use while your thumb is healing? That might help keep it supported and maybe less painful. I sometimes have trouble with my right wrist, and I found that wearing mine during the night (when my wrist acts up) is really helpful.

Congratulations to Karen and family!! Your baby is fortunate to be joining such a lovely family.

Sissy, your dolls and their outfits are just adorable! I think my favorite is the dress on the little blond on the left of the third picture.

Thank you, Linda! ๐Ÿ™‚ The girls are very excited. My husband started searching for a larger vehicle pretty quickly.

  2. Linda in St. Louis

Starting from the bottom up, Sissy, your dolls look adorable in their St. Paddy frocks! I love those bubble suits with the different patterns! Looks like an Irish garden party, and they each found their pot โ€˜o gold!
That last picture looks like an Irish chorus line! What sweet pinafores! Did you make these?

Karen! So exciting to hear you have a new little one coming! Congratulations to you and your husband! Iโ€™m sure you have a lot of little โ€œhelpersโ€ lined up already!

What beautiful counted cross stitch pictures you made, Jeanne! They are a perfect fit for that place you hung them, and such sweet memories they must bring to you!

What fun to get a box of fabric! Cindy knows you VERY well! That second print, the one with the pink background reminds me of cherry blossoms, and looks Asian to me.

Thank you, Linda! I really enjoy making them, Yes, I made the pinafores. I have collected vintage hankies for years and make dresses or pinafores from them, mostly hand sew because they are so delicate.

Jeanne, I am praying for a speedy recovery for your sewing hand. Those are great doll sized prints that your sister sent.

Karen, congratulations on your new baby.

Barbara, I did reply yesterday to your question about shoes for Boneka.

Sissy, those are adorable outfits. Do you have an online shop where you sell your outfits?

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Thank you, Debbie, but no, I sell them on face book or through orders. I am happy to work with customers through orders as we work on which fabrics, styles, etc.

Dear Jeanne and fellow sisters, there is a sad story about these outfits. All seven are orders from one customer. We had such fun picking fabrics and hankies and trims. Unfortunately, before she dressed her dolls for St. Pat’s Day, she fell and hurt her back so badly that she has not been able to dress them. I showed them on the face book page and told who they belonged to, so at least she could take credit for them.

How sad but how wonderful that you showed them for her. I hope she is feeling better soon. A back injury can have so many lingering effects.

After reading yesterday’s comments, who would have thought beds could cause so many injuries. Well, I guess they can. So, please be careful everyone.
I’m glad Jeanne chose to display her cross stitches. Much better than languishing in the attic for sure.
Always nice to receive new fabric. So kind of Cindy.
And did everyone see that Joann’s is in bankruptcy? I’d heard about their financial troubles, but stopped in at ours the other day. Well, looks like a definite downsizing. So many empty spaces in the fabrics. Buttons not refilled. And generally, not like it used to be. They say that they haven’t bounced back after their growth during the pandemic, but the one here was always very busy. I actually walked out without buying anything. That has never happened to me before. Very sad as I suppose I’ll have to buy notions online now.
Loved seeing Sissy’s great accomplishments. My favorites are the pinafores, so delicate, and the variety of green accompanying dresses are perfect.
And it won’t be long at all until Karen’s family will be welcoming a newbie. As they say, always room for one more. Hope she saved the crib. ๐Ÿ™‚

I saw yesterday where JoAnn’s was in Chapter 11 but they said they don’t plan to close any stores just yet. They feel they can reorganize and come back but that may be why shelves are empty right now because they can’t order more until they get things ironed out. I must confess that I haven’t been in JoAnn’s for ages because the closest one to me is about 40 miles away and I miss out on a lot of their same-day sales for that reason. I ordered my Tana Lawn from them online but often I can’t find what I’m looking for on their website so I go elsewhere.

  6. Jeanne, I hope you heal quickly! Sissy, your dresses and pinafores are in deed adorable; thank you for sharing them with us!

  7. What adorable outfits made for St. Patrickโ€™s Day! I especially love the dresses at the end. Itโ€™s cute too that the first three have their pots Oโ€™ gold. Thank you Sissy for sharing the pictures!
And congratulations to Karen and her family. Iโ€™m sure everyone is excited and looking forward to the new little one.
Jeanne, sure hope your thumb heals quickly. That has to be painful. And youโ€™re right, we just donโ€™t realize how much we use our appendages.

Thank you, Jeanne! ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes, the girls are very excited. Marion and Rose drew family pictures including the baby. They were very sweet.

The fabric of your sister looks lovely…
You did a great job on the cross stitching for your mother. They look nice hanging there… Charlie horses are horrible…. Sissy’s dolls look very sweet, each with her own personality. Happy feast of St. Joseph and the first day of Spring! It snowed here a little yesterday.

A big congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family. I do like the name David if it’s a boy. But then I might be partial to that name because it is my hubby’s name. But I’ve always liked the name.

I think I remember Marion saying after the birth of Lilly that the happiest days of her life are when she has a new sister. But I know she’d be over the moon with a new baby brother too. She seems like the most amazing big sister.

      1. Karen from Kentucky

Thanks so much, Barbara! You have an amazing memory! I remember one of them saying that. It probably was Marion. She is a wonderful, caring big sister. We are definitely fortunate to have her help.

I think David is a nice name, too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. A big congratulations to you, Karen! I’m sure your girls are super excited. Yes, it snowed here a little yesterday as well, but luckily nothing stuck.
What adorable dresses, Sissy! Those pinafores are the sweetest. The rompers are super cute as well.
It’s so nice to display those cross-stitched pictures, Jeanne, and they look perfect in your kitchen.
What a nice selection of fabric Cindy sent to you.

Dear Jeanne, hello. Here is a poem for Kathie’s family. I knew her, not just as a Sofa Sister, but as a member of the Little Darling Club we had on ning and now on I.O. She was a wonderful lady and will be greatly missed in the doll world.

A Poem For Kathie From the Sofa Sisters
by Dorothy in PA and the World 2024

    To say good-bye
    is a sad affair
    but now we must
    because we care

    we will miss
    your stories of dolly play
    and things you did
    from day to day

    we will miss the care
    you gave to others
    when we talked about
    our children and mothers

    we will save your seat
    on the sofa still
    memories will endure
    we know they will

And in the dolly world above
    we think of you
    and wish you love

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Wonderful poem Dorothy. It brought tears to my eyes. We will all miss her terribly.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, thank you for your kind words. We can cherish our memories of her time here on the sofa with us.

    2. Karen from Kentucky

That is a beautiful poem, Dorothy. Thanks so much for writing it. May she rest in peace!

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Karen, thank you for your nice comment. Blessings to her family.

How nice Cindy sent you such lovely fabric. And what a perfect location for the cross stitch you did for your mother. My sister, Beth, did a lot of cross stitch over the years and it was lovely. She did some beautiful things for my mother, one being an antebellum woman that must have taken her hours to do. When my mother passed the only thing Beth asked for was could she have the cross stitch of the lady that she did for our mother.

Sissy, your St. Patrick’s attire for your Meadow dolls was absolutely precious. The little pinafore dresses were so sweet and I love the rompers. My Dumpling Lolla has several of those rompers because they are so cute. And where did you get the little pots of gold? Love them.

As for the Boneka shoes, I had tried all the avenues mentioned but was unsuccessful. Deb’s only had one color shoe and the only others were sneakers. Not what I was looking for. Couldn’t find anything on Juju’s. I checked the Boneka site in Germany but they didn’t have what I was looking for either. A site in France I use had more of a selection but still pretty limited and they usually have anything I want. I contacted one of the sites I buy from and she said she was having trouble getting shoes for both Boneka and Kruseling dolls. Shoes for these dolls were made by a lot of people in Russia and their items are not available anymore it seems. But I did find out that Boneka dolls can wear L’il Dreamer shoes and since I have both dolls I tried the L’il Dreamer shoes on my Boneka and I have that option now. But the shoes for L’il Dreamers are pretty limited at the moment. A few years ago I could buy any shoes for any doll I wished. Not sure what’s going on. Thankfully it’s still easy to find shoes for Little Darlings, Wellie Wishers and RRFFs. Those sizes fit most of my dolly girls.

    1. Joy in northern CA

So, will 38mm fit L’il Dreamer and Boneka? I did see some on the bay in that size. But, probably not what you wanted. Very interesting about the shoe problem. I think it all started when those running Monique retired. So wish they were still around. They had everything.

  12. the sweet girls are adorable
Your thumb. You might want to go to an ortho doc for an xray, physical therapy, or at least an exam. Quite a few years ago, I was rolling down a hill (actually only about 6 years ago) with my grand daughter. For some stupidddddd reason I had my hands nicely against my chest but my thumbs were not tucked. They both got wrenched badly.
    It took WEEEEKS to recover.
Be sure to ice it when you can. Do not start heat until later this week.
I feel awful for you I know how that just happens…. even just rolling down a hill. ๐Ÿ˜›
