Hi everyone,
A few suggestions from many of you let me know I was on the right track, just not the same color. I had already picked out this very lightweight blue. It’s almost like a hankie fabric… very thin and delicate. It takes extra time to sew fabrics like this, but it’s generally worth it in the long run. Molly certainly wants me to continue.
I added some blue buttons on the bib and made them look like flowers using floss in the same colors as the fabric.
I added some dainty lace on the straps.
The dress and pinafore haven’t been hemmed yet… saving that for last to make sure I get it right.
It ties in a bow in the back…
I found a gold rayon ribbon I can use for a bow at the neckline. It’s a perfect match!!!
Well, that’s what I got done today… I had another full day…and a long phone call from Rebecca and Karn this evening.
I guess I’ll see what I can get done tomorrow…I don’t know of anything I have to do… so maybe sewing will happen… I hope so!
See you tomorrow.
Blessings,Jeanne
Oh, i do like that light blue pinafore! The white lace is perfect on it, and the “flower” buttons are a nice touch, too. Isn’t it great that we sometimes just “happen” to have the right color of ribbon in our stashes?!!
Belated birthday greetings to Susette.
I will make sure to share pictures of our twinsie challenge. I have some of previous years that I could send Jeanne, too. Thanks for the interest.
Oh Jeanne, how darling that pinafore is! I just KNEW you would do something that would make the dress special, and you did! That is just the cutest outfit ever!
That said, I am not a fan of the bow! Either it is too wide of a ribbon, too large, or the color is too intense or just something, but I would not use that bow! Maybe if you made it so that can be removed at will, so that the buyer could do whatever they wanted with it. I actually think it looks better without the bow or anything up there. Well, we will see what others say, but for sure, you have a winner here!
And a belated “Happy Birthday” to Susette! Since I am late with that, I hope there is a piece of cake left for me!! 🙂
I agree with Linda that the bow isn’t necessary or should be a lot smaller. I’d like to see the pinafore an inch shorter so the great fabric choice is far more visible. The pinafore is so well designed and detailed. The button treatment should be the star of this outfit.
Still raining here. Thanks for the birthday wishes yesterday.
I’m so glad Jeanne went with the pinafore. Love the blue and the buttons. It is a sweet outfit. That said, that neck ribbon just jumped out at me when I saw the pic. Way to big. Wrong color. Wrong type of ribbon. If a ribbon was removable, and perhaps a quarter of the size of current one, maybe. A tiny delicate much thinner, softer ribbon in the same blue might work. I wouldn’t use anything in the gold color. Takes away from the adorable outfit. If you look closely, the background outlining is a dark green/brown, I think. Now, that exact color with a narrow small bow would work or even a white tiny bow. This is a wonderful outfit. Some AG is going to be so happy.
Please tell the rain to STOP now. We have more than enough. Yesterday, it was dumping buckets yet again around here. More waterfalls on the steps and lakes behind the retaining wall and in front of the garage. Thought we were through for the day. While I was in bed watching tv, there was an extremely loud bang that shook the house. I was sure a truck coming down the hill had hit one of our sycamore trees. Hopped up and about ran into other person. He had seen the flash right before and knew it was lightning/thunder. I’ve never heard one so loud before nor in February. Usually a summer thing if we have any at all. Be glad to share water with anyone in need because we are full up around here.
And I forgot. A big belated birthday to Susette, yesterday. Hope it was delightful. 🙂
No takers here on the water. We have finally dried out from our continued deluges a couple weeks ago. The yard desperately needed mowing since the rain was making the weeds and clover grow a lot. Jason finally could do it yesterday without fear of the riding mower getting stuck.
The blue pinafore is perfect and the lace is really sweet. I think the gold ribbon at the neck looks stunning and pulls it all together. Maybe the temporary tie and straight pin are throwing everyone off. Just wait til it gets your magic finishing touch. Funny but the only thing I’m not crazy about is the white collar, but it does go well with the white lace. I like the idea of her hair loosely pulled back from her temples and a bow holding it. Can’t wait to see it finished.
I love this pretty little outfit. The fabric you picked for the pinafore is lovely and I like the lace trim. I’m up in the air on the bow because of its size. I think it takes away some from the clever button treatment but I do like the color. This outfit is definitely a winner.
I was thinking of a vest for added blue, but this is better. I like everything about the pinafore, especially the buttons. Molly generally has socks, but I think knee socks or thigh-highs would be pretty here and would make the dress work for several eras. Maybe socks and thigh-highs?
It’s such a cheerful dress.
The pinafore is perfect and the flower buttons are a lovey touch as is the lace trim. Blue was a super choice. I agree that the bow is unnecessary and detracts from the pinafore. Funny as I too would have made the collar in the same fabric as the dress. Yes, it should also be a bit shorter to show of the dress fabric more. I’m sure you always love our varying opinions on things. Too bad you no longer have Kit as this would look beautiful with her blond hair and blue eyes.
Yellow and Blue were my dad’s faves and they always make me think of him. You hit it for sure with the pinafore, it really pops. I am on the sofa with most of them, the bow is too bright and too big! Looking forward to the finish.
