Sister time, shopping time, sister time….

My sisters and I are having so much fun and it’s been wonderful spending time together again. We love being together and today we were… it was “shopping day” and shop we did!!!

We went to several thrift shops and tried on shoes and boots and coats and jackets and sweaters. We laughed at each others choices sometimes and were constantly holding something up and asking, “Do you like this?”

We all found things we couldn’t leave without, so everyone was happy!!

Deb made some spaghetti sauce before we left this morning and it was finished in no time when we got home, and it tasted SO good. We had shopped up an appetite.

One of the thrift shops we went to was called Red Racks Thrift Shop and it was HUGE!!

I thought you might like to see it for yourself…

Look at the boots…

This was just the BLACK boots… and across the aisle were the rest of the boots…

Here were just “part” of the shoes…

Around the corner I found a few dolls…

Here was every kind if art and hobby supply you could imagine… I actually passed on everything! :o)

They had more jeans than you could imagine….

They probably had one of everything Walmart has in their toy department…

It is really nicely laid out with every department you could want… furniture, vintage clothing, kitchen ware, electronics, books, home decor, and many more. Most of the rows of clothing had little groupings of trinkets and such very nicely done above them… like this…

Tomorrow, Springfield is expecting snow, but we are still hoping it doesn’t keep us housebound, but if it does, we might just put on our jammies and eat popcorn by the fire.

I will see you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I’m sure your mom would be delighted that you girls are staying close, and having sister outings from time to time. So often, once the parents are gone, the children drift apart.

Thanks for sharing pictures of that enormous thrift store!! It looked to me like most of the dolls in that one picture are porcelain, although I Think that might have been a Madame Alexander (in the purple gown, lower left). There were also some dolls in the display of toys; at least one Cabbage Patch Kid, and not sure what else. Fun!!

Kathie, I’m so sorry about the loss of your friend. Been there, done that more often than I’d like. It’s never easy.

Since everyone has been talking about their weather, I thought I’d mention to you that the greater Seattle area is experiencing colder than usual temperatures–currently (3 a.m. but to me it’s still Thursday) it is 20° outside, and expected to get down to 13° by this time tomorrow! Our high for tomorrow (Friday) is expected to be 25°! This is exceptionally cold for us; we rarely get much below 30, and that’s usually at night. In addition, this afternoon we had a little snow. It was enough to make things look pretty but roads stayed bare and wet–but now, of course, ICY!!

That’s quite a store. Seeing it reminds me of the closet here that I’ve been working on for what seems like forever. Curious about the boot prices? Reasonable? And shoes? I donated three huge boxes of mostly unworn shoes recently. Hope the Forgotten Felines Store here makes a bundle. Everything is certainly laid out well at the Springfield store. Curious about the vintage clothing. Probably like what is left in my closet. 🙂
Thanks for sharing and glad you are having a fun time with sisters. Sounds like time to pull out the sleds and find a hill. 🙂

Your “mostly unworn shoes” donation made me chuckle. I’ve got a few of them myself. I told my family the other day that I had spent $500 on shoes. They were shocked till I told them it covered more than one pair until I found a pair I felt I could actually wear. I was looking for dress shoes. One pair I sent back and two I kept for Jaiden because they are cute dressy shoes and she’s almost in that size with perfect feet. I had bunion issues when I was young and had trouble with shoes so I got those taken care of and for years I could wear any shoes I liked. Today I have a right foot that can wear any shoe and a left that fits no shoe comfortably. But the shoes I finally settled on are so pretty I decided to do whatever necessary to make them comfortable, but I only wear them to church or out to dinner.

I’m glad to hear your Jovi arrived safe and sound, hopefully when expected. I bought mine a pair of white jeans and a white t-shirt I’m going to embroider a small design on. I also finally got around to making sweaters out of several sweater ornaments I bought a few years ago and Jovi has one of them. But she will need a dress for Easter/Spring since her red plaid is perfect for the Christmas/holiday season but not springlike. KathyAnneDesigns on Etsy has some new patterns for the L’il Dreamers.

Well, glad I’m not the only person with lots of shoes. As I’ve aged, I’ve found that tennis/walking shoes are best for me. Even the clogs I used to wear a lot teaching, no longer are comfortable. So, I’m getting ready to go back through the three boxes of shoes I’ve kept and see what else might be a toss. Since I really have no need for dressy shoes and have nowhere to put them, more have to go. But they are so cute. 🙂 Other person is anxious to get to his side of the closet so that he can sort the plaids. Really, that’s all he has. All plaid. And well probably over a hundred. Lots of old slacks/sports coats too that have not seen the light of day in years. I’m hoping to be done over the weekend and tomorrow, since it is supposed to rain it is a perfect day.
Thanks for reminding me about KathyAnneDesigns. And guess what? I bought Jovi a pair of white pants too and a tee. Great idea to do embroidery.

Other person’s closet sounds like my hubby’s. Lots of plaid shirts of all colors.

Forgot to mention that Kathy Anne did a pants and top and dress pattern for Mini Sara and I’ve asked her to do one for the L’il Dreamers. I love the dress and it would make up great in lots of fabrics and I even mentioned short sleeves in addition to the long sleeves already on the pattern.

  3. Glad your having a fun time with your sisters, Jeanne!
I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend, Kathie. ((Hugs to you))

So glad you are enjoying your time with your sisters. What a remarkable store! And everything is so orderly. My Goodwill store is like that but Dionne’s in Houston is a mess. They throw the stuff in bins and make you sort through it to find what you need. She mostly buys the grandkids coats from Goodwill but I told her she needs to come out here to mine. She would definitely enjoy the shopping experience a whole lot more.

Looking forward to possible 17 degree weather the first two days of next week. I’m praying the power doesn’t go off like it did in 2021. But at least the weather won’t last as long as it did that time. We had a power outage the other day for no apparent reason and it’s under investigation. It lasted about five hours. But aside from being in the dark the house was not uncomfortable. We had to go to Wal-Mart and decided to grab a bite on the way and when we got home the power was back on. Hopefully we won’t have rain with the cold. We are more prone to ice here than snow.

I just got a call from my DIL Dionne that we will be celebrating Jaiden’s (12/31) and Azure’s (1/21) birthdays tomorrow. Surprise!!! Sean forgot to tell me. I’m prepared for Jaiden but not for Azure so I’ll do a little birthday shopping while at lunch today. I was planning to tidy up my pantry tomorrow but that will have to wait for another day. Oh darn!

  5. Omgosh that Thrift Store is fantastic. Never have seen anything like it! Looks well organized and pretty clean. Can’t wait to see what you sisters bought.
Thank you nice ladies for the sweet comments on losing a close friend. It was a hard one.
Lots of blowing snow and VERY cold temps for the next several days… nothing even above zero. Maybe up to about 30 in another week.🥶❄️🤧

Dear Jeanne, thanks for sharing your shopping trip with us. It is always fun to see what you see. Spaghetti sounds delish!

And here it is Saturday morning-SATURDAY- and I have yet to write! I thought I had better chime in so you all don’t think I passed away! LOL

Since it will be so cold, really cold, like everybody seems to be talking about, and very windy, gusts up to 50 MPH, I decided to do my grocery shopping early yesterday, in the rain, instead of freezing to death or blowing away while putting groceries in the car today! So I did that, and then we finally, finally, got the downstairs Christmas tree undecorated, quite the job, since the ornaments go in certain boxes, and you had to play hid and seek to find them! Well, that is all done now, but the tree has to be dissasembled and then the inevitable needles all over the floor have to be cleaned up.

Tha is some thrift shop, Jeanne, and surely you didn’t come away with nothing! Like everyone mentioned, it looks so nicely laid out and you could easily find things, which is one of my reasons I don’t like thrift shopping. They are quite the mess a lot of the time!

So sorry Kathie about your friend. We seem to be having a lot of friends and neighbors passing away too. Must be our age.

I had to laugh at the mention of husband’s plaid shirts! We seem to have it here too! And shoes! I have quite a few, although I have gone through a lot of them and gave them away, since i no longer work, but still I like to wear Sketchers the most. I had my second bunion surgery almost 3 months ago, and can now wear a lot of my shoes again, but where am I supposed to go with fancy shoes? After years of not wearing heels, they don’t seem too comfortable anymore!

    1. Charlotte Trayer

I know what you mean about the shoes, Linda; I have scads of really darling shoes, but for the last few years have only worn things with flat or very low heels. After my first knee surgery (a “cleanout”, not replacement) I was so happy to try on some heels and walk around the house. But then I got to the top of the stairs, and had visions of my knee giving out again, and me pitching down the stairs head first, and that was the last time I had heels on. And I have such small feet, I have no idea who else would be able to wear them!
