What’s a boy to choose for his Christmas accessories?

REMINDER:
It’s that time of the week, when all little dolls who have my “fashions” on, have to relinquish them to the winner on Ebay. There will be tears and sometimes some sassy talk, a few pouts and even some foot stomps, but they all know, eventually they get another turn.
Noel will be giving up (Winters Song) her dress and capelet and bonnet set tonight! (Friday)
If you haven’t seen it, you can click the picture at the right sidebar or click HERE. I hope you’ll take a peek…

Now, back to James… I went upstairs to see what I could round up in the Christmas “department.” I actually had quite a bit to work with… I’ll show you what I found…

I have some lanterns…

I found these two wreaths… but they aren’t anything special…

I ran across this super soft scarf that I’ve been cutting up for years… The brands logo is “It Feels like Cashmere” and it would make a nice scarf…

These were in my stash… some Christmas socks…

I have a string of lights…(they are just for play)

I found various shopping bags…

I had to make a return today and found this at the Goodwill… some like new jammies for kids…It’s a very thin fleece and would make a nice top for James…

So that’s what I have all spread out on a table… see anything that grabs you?

Okay, now did you see “something” else in that first picture?

Perhaps a newsboy cap?

I was trying to find a newsboy cap that I liked… and after a LOT of searching, I decided to give this pattern a try… It’s a free pattern by Designs by Jude… I Googled “Newsboy Cap by Designs by Jude” and the video came up. I think it’s about a 12 minute video and then a free download on the 3 pieces to make the cap. After I printed out the page with the pieces on them, I enlarged it to 140%. I wasn’t sure if that was the right size, but I took a chance and it turned out to be just right…

Here are a few pictures of the “PROTOTYPE” cap I made. This is just for getting the fit right and seeing if I liked it after it was done.

I do like it and now have to find the perfect fabric for it…

I thought I better try it on with James’ original afro wig, and it still fit.

SO…what’s a boy to choose?

Seriously, what?

Stella was wondering what all the fuss was with this new cap and wanted me to try it on her…

Yep, it even works for the girls! :o)

I will see you tomorrow, or tonight at the Finish Line on Ebay!
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, my first thought would be to wrap some of those “lights” around the larger wreath–but I think I’d prefer it if the wreath were a bit larger than that, even, to be proportional with him

I like the fleece for a sweater, but I think the print is just a Bit large for him–and the hearts made of candy canes are a little too girly. If the repeat is deep enough so you could cut the pieces without those hearts (or if they are only into the hem or seams), that would work.

A narrow neck scarf out of the blue scarf would be good.

I like the newsboy cap; Ron has some of those, many of which have a snap between the brim and the front of the cap. He refers to them as “Gordy Go-Fast caps”!! 😂 I think I might be tempted to modify the pattern just slightly, making the brim and the front part of the cap a little less deep.

Having those lanterns makes me think of another idea–railroad-striped overalls!! I’m thinking James might like to be a train engineer some day, or a conductor, with the lantern!

Kathie, for a theme for your doll club meeting, maybe What’s in Santa’s Sack?, or, taking from music, something like “Winter Wonderland” or “Suzy Snowflake” or “Here Comes Santa Claus”?

After thinking of a cap,, scarf, and vest yesterday, I saw a boy AG doll in a vest and scarf, looking quite festive. I think you are on the right track. The newsboy cap is a great addition to your repertoire. It is wonderful on girls too, When the outfit is done, you’ll have to make a girl’s version, complete with boots.

I really like the knit fabric designs, and I really like the blue, which is working out nicely and is a nice change from red or green, nice as they are.

You have quite a few things there for James, Jeanne, and I’m sure that others will get you on the right track. I’m in the middle of decorating with bins and boxes all over the place, so haven’t had time to think about poor James! However, I love those lanterns! I also love that idea of Charlotte’s striped overalls, and holding the lantern, with maybe a red handkerchief hanging out of his back pocket for some future idea!!

I like the patterned socks on the left for a scarf, or even a hat to match. I know you are making a newsboys cap, but maybe two hats could work.

I notice he is now barefoot, so does that mean a new pair of shoes or boots will be coming?

He could be holding a newspaper with a holiday headline! I know, more things to make, but it is just a suggestion, not an order, dear Jeanne!

So, is the pattern shown the original size or the enlarged to 140 size? Might be fun to try making a hat somewhere down the line. I guess I should look at newsboy hats, but it seems a tad bit too big to me. If, you’re going for a sweater, I would look for something with a plain look rather than holiday as then, it could also be worn for other occasions. Will the sweater even fit over the shirt? I might just go with the vest alone. Maybe a scarf in a theme fabric? And definitely a blue scarf as well from the soft fabric. Whatever you decide, I’m sure James will be excited for his photo shoot. )

    1. Hi Joy,
The original pattern fits Ellowyne’s head…
I cut out those pieces and enlarged them to 140%… I might try 135% the next time.
I’m heading off to the Food Pantry so will have to decide on things later…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

I love the lanterns both for a prop for Christmas and the striped overalls idea. I like James’ Newsy cap and it definitely works for both boys and girls. If you make it smaller it might not fit with his fuller hairdo. I’m thinking maybe the socks might make a good Christmas vest (rather than a sweater) and the blue would go with his blue shirt. The print is a good size and not girly. I like the cap fabric as an extra with this set or a starting point for another.

  6. The beige wreath might be something special depending where it’s from. I have a couple of boxes of those straw ornaments in stars, horses. etc. bound with red thread for a small tabletop tree and mine are made in Germany (no surprise there I’m sure).
Cute newsboy cap. Of course they work for girls! Those were popular in the 1970’s, I had one in light khaki. It looks great on Stella as well.
The little lanterns are cute and James should have one in red and then a blue scarf.
