Hi everyone,
I received SO many suggestions and ideas for pieces for Stella’s new dress set, I was a bit overwhelmed. I wanted to make them ALL… but I really need to wind this one up and start on something else… and I bet you’re hoping something for “another” doll. I know I have been playing favorites with the Ruby Red dolls for the longest time. They are SO popular and a very fun size to sew for.
But like I said, I wanted to make them ALL!!!
I wanted to make the first top I started into a short top with a ruffle, and a pair of cuffed denim shorts to go with it… like Joy suggested…then have a pair of red and white striped thigh highs underneath.
Susette suggested a red satchel and I wanted to make one of those too…
Lorna thought a jacket made with the holes in the wool as some kind of decoration, or even run silk ribbon through the holes…
Linda suggested a cute little purse… hmmm…
Some flowers wrapped in tissue holding some Fall flowers, a green purse with matching flowers, or maybe even a leather headband using some of the small punched out flowers was suggested by Marilyn!
Dorothy L was wondering if a fringed salmon poncho wrap might work. Striped thigh highs was also a suggestion from her.
Barbara hit the nail on the head when she said, “What would Jeanne do without us?” That made me laugh Barbara! :o)
Kathie learned from the use of the moth eaten wool jacket that there are LOTS of salvagable clothing items in the thrift stores… if you just keep an open mind when looking through things. She also wondered if Stella would have anything to keep her warm.
Laura noticed how the navy dress color flows down her legs with this navy thigh highs on… She said the Salmon colored hat goes very well with Stella’s coloring. It REALLY DOES! :o)
Nanette suggested a matching green leather pocketbook to go with the dress…and if not that, how about a matching salmon cape?
See, LOTS of ideas from everyone… each one as good as the next… But I think I’ll call it quits on this one… the set will include:
The dress, slip, thigh highs, green leather shoes, a green wool felt hat and a salmon colored wool hat, and a “hippie” purse!
Now, let’s see some pictures of those 2 new pieces I made today.
First I decided her dress was just a little bit limp, so I made a tulle slip in some very soft tulle, that was just full enough to hold it out perfectly…
I added a little embellishment in some like colors of the whole set.
See how it holds the dress out just enough without it clinging to her body.
I used a piece of the wool jacket I got at the Goodwill and cut out a square to make a crossbody bag for Stella. It doesn’t ravel, so it was pretty easy to do… I made sure my holes were straight and stitched the side and the bottom, adding a bit of that fringe on the jacket for a little interest. On the salmon colored dress that I used for Freida’s dress last week, there was a cord with a tassle at the neck that I used for the strap for this purse. By adding a few buttons, a snap, and stitching on the strap, I thought it turned out pretty cute…
To put it on your doll, just lift up one arm and slide the purse down over her head and the arm that is sticking up… Then pull the purse down and get her hair out from under the strap in the back.
Stella liked it a lot!
She grabbed her salmon colored hat and wanted me to take a few more pictures…
Then she said, “We better show the purse with the green hat on…”
Unless I wake up in the middle of the night with something else in mind, I’m going to try and get this one listed on Ebay…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
The petticoat does help her dress stand out a bit, and I love her “hippie purse”!! So cute!! Some dolly will be awfully happy with her dress and all the fun accessories! But how are you going to break it to Stella? She’s been modeling that dress long enough to be lulled into a sense that it’s Hers!!
Exactly! That’s my thought. Best of luck with the listing.
What a great set this is going to be for some lucky doll! I love it all, the slip, the new purse, tights, shoes, hats and dress! In spite of all our suggestions, you took the best ones and everything turned out so well, Jeanne!
This outfit has such pretty fall colors, just like the trees now turning red, gold, and orange. Poor Stella, when she finds she has to give it all up!
Well, I wonder which doll will dance off of Jeanne’s shelf if she is chosen to be the next model? Tiny, medium, or large? Lots of choices there for sure.
Beautifully clear this morning with lots of stars. Sun hasn’t yet appeared, but soon. 🙂
Another wonderful ensemble from the House of Jeanne Marie. Your outfits are so complete. I love the purse! You have definitely maximized your Goodwill purchase. I’ve yet to check out our Goodwill here in town. I really must do that. You find some amazing things at yours.
I finished Valentine Natterer’s dress yesterday and my plan for the buttons worked out great. I’m not sure how they will show up in a picture but in person they make the dress. I pinned one of the Tana Lawn blouses this morning and hope to have both outfits at least cut out today. I have Chorale tonight so I’ll need to spend some time on music today so I imagine cutting out the outfits will be all that gets done today.
David signed the contract yesterday for the engineer for our housing subdivision. He also found out he can do all the underground work also which is great because he has a trencher. He can do everything except the final hook ups which is going to save us a lot of money because hiring someone to do the laying of conduit, etc., can cost a bundle. As the song says, “count your blessings, name them one by one” and we are definitely doing that. Every day.
Hi Barbara, that is just wonderful!
Congrats on the contract, and so great that your crew can do the underground as well. 🙂
As usual you have put together the nicest set for any RRFF. Perfect for now but honestly those colors can be perfect for most any time or any color skin/ hair combination. The purse is a great accessory. Your Sofa Sisters did give you some good ideas. If you did them all it wouldn’t be listed for another week at least☺️
Good luck with this listing👏
Dear Jeanne, Stella looks adorable in her outfit. She has been the perfect model.
Hmmm, I wonder who will be the next model. I am guessing that someone will be “giving thanks” (pun intended) to wear the next outfit (laugh).
I will be visiting The Strong Museum in Rochester this weekend. There is a doll exhibit I want to see plus a gazillion toys to “ooh” and “aah’ over.
Dear Dorothy, have a great time at the doll exhibit. It sounds like a lot of fun. You might even find a quaint tearoom nearby to finish the day off splendidly.
Dear Laura, you know me so well (laugh). I already checked and there is one but it won’t be open while we are there (sad face). Not to worry though, I have two teas coming up in November at my favorite tearoom so that will make up for this one.
Yes, I haven’t said anything, but I have noticed the Rubies have overwhelming been the doll of choice this year. They are obviously lovely and even charmed me. 🙂
The slip is a great addition and the purse is cute and of course matches the salmon hat perfectly.
I loved Barbara’s comment “What would Jeanne do without us?” Your sewing will never be boring with us around making some many suggestions.
Wondering who will be the next doll to step out of the new glass cabinet. It’s nearly time to think about the Christmas outfits which is hard to believe.
This is a lovely Thanksgiving outfit, but I’d love to see one mote in fall colors for Thanksgiving before you turn to Christmas. The petticoat doesn’t show, but the skirt has more body, which I hadn’t realized it needed, but of course you were right. And the purse is perfect, It sounds to me as if everyone agrees.
Who’s next? All the choices are good.
