HI everyone,
I chatted with Sarah, my webmaster, and she is looking into the changes on my blog regarding the comments being made and NOT being made. Poor Barbara is completely locked out from making any comments to anyone else and leaving them herself. She can see the blog and read what everyone else is saying, but she can’t comment. Hmmm…
I do think things changed on the site, (probably an update!) but it’s just a different way of doing things… When you first start to leave a comment, the box comes up with a W (for WordPress), F (for Facebook) and then the email icon. If you’ll start typing your comment, then hit the email icon when you are finished, your comments should take, and it will switch to “Submitting Comment.” As far as the paragraphs go, you have to hit the enter button 2 times for it to double space, just like when you are typing. (Yes, Laura, I did see your pictures you sent!)
Sarah didn’t get back to me about things tonight, but maybe she’ll be able to tell me something tomorrow.
I was hoping to answer your comments today, but this dress took longer than I expected. I knew it was a delicate fabric…it’s much softer than I imagined. It’s like sewing a kleenex…seriously it is!
I wanted the trim to be right where the seam for the skirt was being attached; like where a belt or sash would fall, but when you gather up a skirt and stitch it to the bodice, then turn the gathered edged upward toward the bodice to make the skirt more flattering, the raw edges were showing in the crosshatch trim. PLUS, the trim had heavy stitching on it, so it was really thick.
I had to move the trim up just a bit so I could trim off some of the edge, and have a little bit of room underneath to hide the edges of the gathered skirt. That’s probably too much information if you don’t sew, but it took more time than I thought it would and because the fabric is sort of a loose weave to begin with, I had to be extra careful with raveling edges.
Anyway, I made it work but the crosshatching is just on the front of the bodice. I stopped it at the side seams… The back has tiny buttons to match the fabric. I have decided Linda is right and this color is closer to Salmon than anything else. Sometimes it looks dark and rich and sometimes it’s just that color of Salmon you see in the grocery store.
I took a picture of the inside so you could see how it’s finished. I added 2 small squares of interfacing to help hold the snaps from being pulled out of the delicate fabric. Here are a few more pictures with Freida showing how pretty she looks in it.
I also took a picture of the denim jacket’s insides… it’s not lined, but everything is pretty much finished off. It’s very lightweight and I’m very proud of getting it to look this nice in the end. I’m SO glad I fixed the stitching on the front…
Remember the tiny bronze buttons I was going to put on it, that I ordered online? They aren’t supposed to be here till Tuesday! YIKES!
Kristoffer to the rescue… he came over today and I showed him what I was doing with them, and told him they weren’t coming soon enough…
He got on his phone; he’s an Amazon Primer member and he ordered some for me and they are supposed to be here on Friday! SO… I can get most everything else done on this set and just have to sew on those buttons! Yay Kristoffer!
Well, I better get to bed… I need some rest after sewing all day! It was kind of “stress-sewing.” I was trying to be careful and I caught myself feeling like I was sewing in slow motion to make sure I didn’t pull any threads or snag anything.
Goodnight… see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, I love that trim as a waistline accent!! So pretty!! And the jacket looks just great with it, too.
I think I might have interfaced the entire back facing, underneath and on the wrong side, where it won’t show, on fabric that soft. Then it wouldn’t matter where you’d sew your snaps. However, I would test it first, as you also don’t want just that one area to be too stiff or thick, either!
I know what you mean about stress sewing; some fabrics just require extra attention. It was well worth it, though, as it’s turned out so beautifully!!
Now, what’s next….a little denim purse or bag, perhaps???
PS Tonight I couldn’t get this to send thru my email address–the reply button stayed gray–so had to log in with FB. Something is Definitely going on with your blog!! (And my first post hasn’t shown up, so I will send it to you via email if I don’t see it soon.)
Good morning Jeanne,
The dress is so beautiful. It looks delicate and the color of the fabric is so pretty, perfect for this season. I know you will be busy today doing the purse and the shoes 😊. It’s so nice of Kristoffer to order the buttons.
Have a wonderful day.
Hi Jeanne,
I love how you cut the back bodice on the bias. Such a beautiful dress! Love it paired with the jacket.
Well, something must be going on because neither Charlotte nor Linda have responses. Must be a problem with that “new” log in.
I like how the trim ended up on the dress. It a great idea and presents well. However, the dress seems extremely long. I know some like long dresses, but around here the dolls like a more modern look especially with the cute denim jacket. They would like it knee length.
Another hot one today. Ended up at I think 92 yesterday and will be warmer today. Looking forward to the weekend when we’ll get back to some cooler weather. 🙂
This dress is really pretty. Lovevthe lace looking top. It looks really good on Freida with her dark hair. The jacket will certainly add to the right look.
Yes, where are Charlotte and Linda?
I’m here! Just got a late start this morning, but I usually wait for Charlotte to comment before I do, and she never did. Hope everything is OK there.
Yes, Jeanne, the dress is more salmon than orange. Actually, orange turns me off on clothes, unless it is a tiny part of the coloring. Salmon is a beautiful warm color
I too, think the dress is a bit long, and prefer shorter dresses unless they are for a special occasion, and then tea length.
I love the way you used the trim and everything about the dress. I was thinking of using a bit of lace and create a brooch out of a fancy button for the jacket. It seem a bit plain, but maybe with the buttons on, it will look more finished. I’m so glad that Kristoffer was able to get them to you faster! What a wonderful son!
Hi Barbara, miss your comments! Hopefully things will straighten out soon.
The crosshatch design at the waist is a nice detail. Being a Prime member has its advantages. I do get the free trail that is offered once a year and aim to have it in the time before Christmas. Glad Kristoffer could order them for you sooner.
She looks very nice. I especially like the crosshatching.
Sorry to hear about Barbara’s unable to log in problem. Hope it gets fixed soon as I miss hearing from her.
Wanted to let her know that I bought my girls a couple of swimsuits awhile back from the shop that I think she mentioned. Well, that Irish luck must have been with me because I ended up winning the maker’s prize of the month. It arrived today. Cutest swimsuit ever and matching shoes too. Definitely made me smile. 🙂 The shop is menabella on Etsy.
And this morning There was no comment from Charlotte. Now there are two. Glad to see them. 🙂
Dear Jeanne, I love the color of the dress. I was thinking coral but someone said salmon. I like both of those colors.
I hope also that the webmaster can figure out what is going on. I cannot manually make the return work. The sentences all look like they are in one big paragraph. I see that sometimes the return works after I press reply.
The other issue with reply is, I used to see a pointer or an an arrow when I clicked on it but now I don’t. Also, the three icons used to be on the right side but now they are on the left side. None of this is keeping us off of the sofa, thank goodness. We are all still right here chatting.
The dress is so pretty, it’s perfect with the jacket. It all looks as good on the wrong side as it does on the right side. I just love it.
