I went in my sewing room today and picked up the little crest/patch I had embroidered for Ten Ping’s black felt jacket. I looked at it…The End. Sorry, I’m going to have to ask a couple questions today…
You can answer them in the comments below or email me… and if you want to talk about anything else, go right ahead!
1. What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?
2. What is one thing you wish you could do that you know you probably never will?
See you,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hm, I had to think about that first one, as I’ve had several “nicest things” happen to me in my life! (Yes, I’m fortunate.) So, I guess, in recent months….after I broke my arm in November, one of our dear Sofa Sisters sent me a lovely bouquet of flowers!! Just out of the blue!! (And later she sent me a book, too.) Totally unexpected, a complete surprise, and what a bright spot it was for a very discouraging period in my life.
As to the second question, that’s easy–the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in or near the town where I grew up! Anyone who knows me, knows that Michigan is #1 in my heart when it comes to places to live. Four distinct season, and a lovely horizon with no “mountains to block the view”!! 😂 I know…I know…but I really REALLY do not like mountains!! Big and oppressive and gloomy, and very scary for me to drive thru them. (I drove my cousin and myself up to Leavenworth one time–a darling town to visit, and not bad going up, but driving back down? It was white knuckle all the way–I am definitely Not good with heights!) Plus the incessant rain in the fall/winter/spring out here…just so depressing. So, yeah, I’d love to live in the U.P. again, but it probably won’t happen because most of my immediate family is out here.
Jeanne, I think you have us stumped with these questions! I opened the blog early this morning, around 4:00 a.m., and had to think, really think! , Here it is at almost 11:00 a.m., and I am still thinking! I’ve had so many good things happen to me, I could not even remember them all! I do recall that when I was working at an insurance company, we celebrated each other’s birthdays with a cake that someone made, and maybe a couple of gifts, but they went all out for me, and kept me in the dark until my birthday.
They each volunteered to bring different things, a beautiful lace tablecloth, real china and silver ,and a fantastic spread of various teas, and cakes, plus a special gift of an overnight stay at our favorite bed and breakfast in Branson! I was so surprised to think they thought I was worthy of a “real tea party!”
Second question is still stumping me, so I’ll scoot for now!
Those are hard questions. The best thing that has happened to me is finding my hubby. He has been the best ever ( except maybe the time he dropped me at the hospital, I was in labor, and he went on to work😲). He is the best Dad to our 4 kids and Grandpa to 10. Puts up with my ideas and lady groups too.
I would like to be a better and faster quilter.
Hope this is a good day for you… have you gone back to the two Drs yet?
The nicest thing for me was that my parents made sure I had braces when I was 13 to bring down the two upper canine teeth, the “fangs.” Orthodontics was not that common in the early 1950s, but it made a difference to me for the rest of my life as I wouldn’t smile before having braces. I remember not being able to even bite into a donut for a couple of days after they were adjusted every few weeks! Ouch, but worth it.
I’m glad I traveled over my lifetime and after retiring. I’ve lived in England and Japan and been to China, Thailand, Korea, Switzerland, Italy, Scotland and to France several times. Won’t be traveling much anymore but wish I could.
I’d go back to Europe with enough money to make getting to places easier — I can no longer walk several miles in a day and think nothing of it.
A nice thing. My last work supervisor gave me no supervision, so I had to make up my own work. One thing I did was to help a co-worker who was working on a book. First I proofread her drafts, then I offered to find background information, and eventually I wrote some of the introductory material for various chapters.
Sometimes she’d stop writing for a couple of wees. I discovered that if I’d give her the introduction for a chapter, she’d revise and finish it and write 3 more chapters in the next few days. I was a sort of human jumper cable. Eventually, she gave me more writing to do.
One day she said, “Do you want some of the money for this?” Authors of academic books seldom get much money, so I declined. She said, “Do you want your name on the book?” I thought, “That’s the one thing I wanted from my career that I didn’t get,” and I said, “Yes!”
Here’s the book

Dear Marilyn, how wonderful! That was so lovely of you. I always do better when I have a writing coach, otherwise it feels like a lonely journey.
I just ordered one of the two books that was available on Amazon, the one that was $4.45. The only other one was $99! My paternal grandmother was adopted and I’ll be very interested in reading the book.
The book is also available as an ebook at http://www.abc-clio.com
Dear Jeanne, I am so blessed to have wonderful friends that I can’t name just one nice action by one person.
As for what I would love to do, that’s easy. I would love to have an apartment in Paris in the
6th Arrondissement where the Latin Quarter is located. I would live part of the year there, part of the year in Santa Fe, and the other part of the year here in PA. Thanks for allowing me to have this mini dream. Maybe I will play the lottery. If I win, I can leave in a day. My passport is still current (laugh).
