Surprise! Surprise! A Dolly Post!!!

Well, it’s actually MORE than just a dolly post, it’s a dolly GIVEAWAY post. I found this cute little doll at a store here in town and thought one of my readers might like her.

She’s Siena, by the Battat company. I didn’t know anything about her, so I looked on Ebay. Some listings say she is a Battat doll while other sellers say she is an Our Generation doll. I found out Battat is the company that makes Our Generation dolls.

Anyway, she is a cute little 6″ doll, brand new, still in the blister pack with lots of fun accessories.

I put one of the Mini American Girl dolls beside Siena, and also my 6″ Mini Bailey beside her too. (They are NOT included with this giveaway.)

I’ll show you all sides of the box and you can read all about her.

Now, for the GIVEAWAY details. (This giveaway is just for my readers in the lower United States.)
To be entered in the drawing for this doll, IT’S REALLY HOT, so tell me your simplest COOL summer recipe in the comments below or send me an email. Maybe it’s an easy salad or a quick dessert… whatever it is, tell me about it and how you make it.

Once you tell me, that will enter you into the drawing for the doll set.
You have until midnight, Tuesday, Central Time Zone, to enter. I will then post the winner Wednesday on my blog…
I hope you think this is fun!

Thanks everyone!
See you, Jeanne

    OH, what fun–a giveaway!!

My quickest thing is something I did when my son was young; I got a large container (or several small ones) of yogurt and spooned some into each of my Tupperware Ice Tups holders, and froze them. (You can also use smallish paper cups, and stick a plastic spoon–to serve as a handle–in each. Peel the cup away from the frozen yogurt.) Then he could have a frozen yogurt treat. He loved them. (I don’t do that now because, frankly, I’ve never been a big fan of yogurt!!)

Linda, the romper is for a real baby–size 24 months, if memory serves.

Joy asked if anyone was waiting for a new dolly, etc. ME!! I ordered Diana, by Ruby Red. She’s so pretty, I couldn’t resist. (Besides, Sally said I could!! 😂🤣😂)

Well, we have a new wrinkle: Ron is not thrilled with this place, as he is Bored! It’s a small place–5 residents including him–and only one of them is able to hold any kind of conversation. So I’m going to call Angela (the agent) and talk to her about getting him in to a larger place, more of an assisted living or memory care place, where there is more stuff going on. I had some real talking to do tonight (on the phone) to convince him to be patient, this wouldn’t happen overnight, etc. He also thinks the food is too spicy, which may well be the case, from some times when I’ve smelled the cooking. For him, with 2′ less colon than the rest of us, this could be an issue. Please pray for a better placement for him this time. The people here have been lovely, but….

Laura, I’m sorry for the loss of your friend. This seems to happen more frequently as we get older, and it’s never easy!

Oops, that should have been ***fruit-flavored yogurt***; his favorite was lemon, as I recall, but whatever flavor you like will work!!

      1. Charlotte, I am so sorry things are not working out for Ron. Praying that you find a solution quickly. God bless you both.

    2. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Charlotte, prayers continue. I know you will find the perfect place.

Charlotte, I’m so sorry that Ron is not happy where he is but it’s good that he told you rather than keeping it to himself and being sad. Hopefully you can find him a place where he can be happy soon. I will be praying for this to happen.

    4. Thank you, Charlotte. She was actually 15 years my senior, so an older friend age-wise.
I’ll pray you find a better place for Ron quickly. No, it would not be good for his mental state to have no one to talk to or enough planned activities. I’m glad he told you quickly. I’m sure he wanted this place first as it was closest to home.

Jeanne, I’m too hot to think about cooking or eating much at all, but my favorite go-to on days like this is very simple! Vanilla ice cream with sugared strawberries on top! I remember having that while at Silver Dollar City in Branson, on a hot summer day. It was a huge bowl, that probably could work for two people, who evidently weren’t worried about gaining weight, 😊 and it was simply divine! Nothing thing better than creamy vanilla ice cream and sweet strawberries on top! Easy peasy, but smaller portions please!

I don’t need another doll, so don’t put me in the running for her, although she is a cutie!

Oh dear, Charlotte, sorry to hear that Ron is not happy. However, the only way to know about a lot of things is to experience them, and that way you have a better idea of what to look for in the next places you visit or learn about. Good luck!

  3. This is a really fun giveaway! My daughter is having a birthday next month and she would love this!

As for a simple cool summer recipe:
    Frozen Strawberry Yogurt Swirl–

Ingredients- 10 plastic or paper cups
    2-3/4 cups Greek yogurt
    1 cup fresh strawberries
    1/4 cup water
    2 tablespoons sugar
    10 wooden popsicle sticks

Directions- Fill each cup with about 1/4 cup yogurt. Place strawberries, water and sugar in a food processor; pulse until strawberries are finely chopped. Spoon 1-1/2 tablespoons strawberry mixture into each cup. Stir gently with a pop stick to swirl. Top cups with foil; insert pop sticks through foil. Freeze until firm.

  4. My coolest solution to this heat is ice, ice, ice! I also like frozen fruit. There is a brand that I get at my local Walmart called Wyman’s. It has little chunks of strawberries, blue berries and little pearls of bananas. It is so good and refreshing. I love that little girl you are offerering!

  5. I have missed a lot of days, as I was at MDCC in Indianapolis, and just got back Sunday. My favorite cold treat is frozen Key Lime pie. Here is the recipe:, (you can use a bought graham cracker or chocolate crust instead).

Key Lime Pie with Biscoff Crust

    Crust:

    1 1/4 C Biscoff Cookie crumbs (20 cookies)
    5 T unsalted butter melted
    3 T sugar
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Combine cookie crumbs, butter and sugar and stir until well moistened. Pat the mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom and all the way up the sides of a 9” pie pan.

Bake until the crust is firm, about 5 min. Cool completely

    Key Lime Pie

    6 egg yolks
1 can Sweetened condensed milk (I used non fat)
1 egg white (can freeze the other egg whites or make meringue on pie)
    1/2 cup key lime juice

Beat egg yolks, and slowly pour in lime juice as you beat
    Beat in Sweetened Condensed milk.
Thoroughly wash beaters and beat 1 egg white in clean bowl until stiff.
Fold egg white into pie mixture.
Pour into pie crust and freeze. serve frozen topped with whipped cream.

Jeanne, I don’t need another doll, please, but sweet of you to offer. I will send photos from MDCC for the group when I get a chance. I am in the middle of making preserves with a lot of Kiefer pears that were giving to me.

I would love to see Sissy’s pics from Modern Doll. It sounded like so much fun. 🙂

Very glad to hear that Ron and Charlotte are on top of things. I was also concerned that there weren’t enough activities, but it didn’t dawn on me that the other residents might also be an issue. I also didn’t like hearing about a pressure sore. Maybe the next place will have a bus that takes residents places too. It might cost a full month’s stay to switch to another place, but will be well worth it. Keep the faith.
So nice of Jeanne to have a giveaway. The Lori doll is adorable. 🙂
My recipe for something cool is good old water from the tap with a few ice cubes floating on top. So refreshing and includes no calories of which I’m aware. I think I’ve lost eight pounds, so water is my friend. 🙂

  7. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, it sounds like you are doing better. That is so wonderful to know.

I don’t want to be in the contest. As the non-cook on the sofa, I don’t have any recipes (laugh).

Jeanne, so glad that your hand is not fractured. Sometimes I think it takes longer to come back from a sprain than a fracture. Have no clue why but it does seem that way. Hope all is going well with your hubby. Praying for you both daily. So glad to hear that Anne Johnson is doing well. Keeping her in my prayers.

I missed the blog yesterday. I was overseeing a dolly splash party hopefully soon to be fully photographed. Sometimes I forget that even smaller dolls can be big and the pool filled up fast so I’m having to take a few pictures because no one with a swimsuit wants to be left out and lighting is forcing me to do it over more than one day. For the first time in weeks we actually have some overcast skies, and my usually sunny and bright kitchen where I do my photography is looking pretty gloomy at times.

My summer recipe these days is A/C and Joy’s water recipe, but when my children were growing up I would make popsicles with Kool-Aid (with far less sugar than called for) and Tupperware popsicle molds. Just want to assure Dorothy she’s not the only Sofa Sister who isn’t fond of cooking. I get food on the table with as little effort as possible – as well as clean-up. I used to wish cooking were my passion rather than sewing because I had to do cook. But by the time I got home from work and got supper ready and the kitchen cleaned up afterward, I was too tired to even sew in one sleeve. But the family had to eat so my sewing was relegated to weekends. But then I have a meat and potatoes hubby who discourages my use of recipes. Once I made asparagus with a wonderful vinegarette sauce. I saw him scraping off the sauce and then said if I made it again please leave the sauce off his. Not being able to use recipes at all can make cooking a bit boring. And I don’t bake except to take something somewhere because both David and I don’t need the calories.

What a cute doll giveaway. I do have some of the smaller dolls so put me in the running.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

So you have one of those husbands too, Joy! Mine is always taking offf the best parts, all the sauces and breading! Plain is his name!

    2. Joy in northern CA

Nothing like a filled up pool! Can’t wait to see everyone and especially the swim apparel. My girls are going to be so jealous.

  9. So glad to hear it’s just a sprain, Jeanne. That little doll is so cute. Perfect as a doll’s doll. There’s a sweet lady on the doll boards whose dolly world revolves around the AG minis along with some even tinier girls and boys. She does have three bog girls, but her mini displays are just amazing. She replicates the big girls historical worlds in miniature. I’m always blown away by what she is able to do.
I would have picked Israeli tabouli as my recipe, my grandmother’s peach pie, or homemade strawberry shortcake, but you said simple so…
    Summer Harvest salad.
1 sweet Vidalia onion, sliced and separated into rings
2 sweet peppers, one green, one orange sliced
3 medium tomatoes or equivalent of smaller Roma like Juliet (my favorite variety) sliced

Mix all together and pour a reasonable amount of Italian dressing (like Good Seasons) over. Chill for 30 minutes.

  10. Kathie from Omaha

My sister lives with us now and she makes the best stuffed tomatoes. Take your favorite tomatoe and hollow out the center a bit…remove some of the seeds. Fill it with tuna salad. Refrigerate . Sprinkle with dill weed. Quick yummy dinner😉
Sorry this first care center didn’t work..nope one with activities will be better🤔

  11. Hot summer days coincide with season of fresh local produce available in Ohio. My go-to meal is fresh peaches, fresh sweet corn and a sandwich with sliced fresh tomatoes. Grilled cheese, bacon, hamburger, Costco Rotisserie chicken, lots of sandwich choices.
