This is the 5th day of questions since I’m busy right now… You can still carry on with chatting amongst yourselves and have a great time.
I also have some pictures from Laura… in case you need a dolly or a kitty fix…
Question 1:
What job did you want when you were a kid?
Question 2:
What was your worst fashion disaster? (This one might be really good!) :o)
Laura sent me some pictures to use this week and I think you’ll enjoy them… whether you are a dolly lover or a kitty lover, OR BOTH, I think you’ll find something in these to make you smile.
Here are Truffle and Doyle with some of the spring/ summer toys.
Then a couple of dolls having a day of fun and games. Gilead and Milagros are spending a fun day together.
First, they start out at the arcade to play a few games of Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man.
Then they head home and relax with a couple of games of Tic Tac CAT. Finally, Gilead shows Milagros her new tiny doll house and English phone box. It’s great to have a friend share a special day.
Thank you Laura,
I will see you again tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
I hope things are going well with George, Jeanne. Is he still in the hospital, or did he get to go home fairly soon after the surgery? As others said yesterday, be sure to take care of yourself, too, in whatever ways work to help relieve stress for you.
Hm, the first question…not a “job” but what I wanted to be when I grew up, and that was a missionary to Africa! I was going to help Dr. Albert Schweitzer, don’t you know?! 😂🤣😂 The fact that he was already fairly old by then, and probably died before I would have been old enough to get medical training, etc., didn’t even occur to me! (As it turned out, I DID get to Africa! In 1999 I went with a church group of about 36 people who helped the missionaries at Trans World Radio in Manzini, Swaziland. I headed up the group who helped set up a subject file for the home school library [my minor was library science] It was wonderful.)
Oh, dear, worst “fashion disaster”? I would say worst sewing disaster….I had gotten this lovely lightweight cotton, white with a floral print, and I cut out a dress. The pattern had a new feature, built-in iron-on marks for darts, etc. Did I try it on a scrap first? Noooo…..did the whole thing, ironed the transfers for all the darts and dots, and then I realized the fabric was too thin/sheer for this to be a good idea! It sat in my drawer for years before I finally pitched it. LIve and learn. (I noticed this iron-on transfer idea was Very short-lived; apparently it was not successful.)
I enjoyed seeing your pictures, Laura. Those are some spoiled kitties, with all those toys! And your girls are so cute. I am wondering if there should be a third picture, though, as Gilead’s “tiny doll house and English phone box” are mentioned, but I didn’t see them.
Thank you so much, Charlotte! Please see my post below.
I am praying for you both, Jeanne and George, and hope things are going well. The best thing to do is focus on the positive and that God will see you through.
What I wanted to be when I grew up? Not what anyone would think, and for sure not what one would think today, but I just wanted to be a mother…..and a ballerina at the same time! I was always playing house, and my imaginary husband was always overseas, (this was right after WW11, so that was reasonable!) I wanted to be the “in charge” of my 10 (!) children, which were various dolls I had! I always felt that being a housewife and mother was the most in charge thing you could ever be! I had quite an imagination, and when I put my dolls to bed for a nap, I would go to my “studio”, put my records on and dance!! Not what most little girls would want to do now, but I had my reasons!! My desire to become a teacher came when i was in high school. I guess I decided the ballerina part wouldn’t work out! 🙂
Oh dear, the worst fashion disaster I had came when I was in college. My carpool came quite early in the morning, and it was kind of darkish when I was getting dressed. So one day I wore a purple skirt, a deep pink/fuschia blouse, and two different shoes, one a green suede and one a black leather shoe!! Good grief! I only discovered that when I got to school and had to go the whole day in that getup! Pink, purple, green and black! And to think I was an art major made it worse!
Laura, your kitties are so cute, and yes, very spoiled! Do they all clomb in bed with you at night? We never had a cat that didn’t!
Oh, goodness! I meant “climb”! I wish we could go back and correct things after we post comments, then discover a misspelled word!
Thank you so much, Linda! Yes, the kitties climb in bed with me, snuggle under the cover, and some like to fix my hair during the night. The best is being greeted each morning by Truffle on my pillow. A Truffle cat beats the candy all to pieces.
Your fashion sense that day was hysterical. Actually, as an art major today it would work. The fashion sense of the art majors when I went to college sometimes included some pretty wild combos and additions.
Hoping that we get an update on George’s progress today. I’m positive he is receiving the best care, and Jeanne is his ombudsman.
Fun seeing Laura’s kitties. I would love to see the last pic of her girls playing games.
As a kid, I never thought of a job I’d like. I was too busy living in now time with games of Kick the Can with the neighbor boys, roller skating and putting on shows, and cooking treats on the electric stove in my backyard playhouse.
I was kind of matchy matchy with my skirts/sweaters, so I can’t remember any fashion disaster.
Cooling fog this morning, but it’s going to be very hot over the weekend. Not looking forward to that.
Thank you so much, Joy. I’m glad you enjoyed my kitties. Please see my additional comment below.
I hope all is going well Jeanne. Prayer for both of you continue!.🙏🏻
Laura your Kitties are so sweet. I have always loved them but we were never allowed an inside pet. My kids always had kitties when on the farm though. Gave a birthing lesson to my kids with our Mama Cat too😉
Fashion disaster…. In 8th Grade the Choir sang in the big beautiful Cathedral. On Easter I got my first pair of heels…first pair of nylons, and a suit. The before church practice choir room was near the choir loft in a room you stepped down into. As I was entering I tripped…down 3 steps… put my knee through my new nylons and I’m sure my face was beet red!
Okay, somehow the rest of my photos didn’t make it onto today’s post, but at least the most important kitty ones did! There were four more photos of their Tic Tac CAT game and then the small dollhouse (one regular and close up of each), but unfortunately I can’t figure out how to link them here. I sent her an email and if she sees it maybe Jeanne will repost this tomorrow.
When I was a child, I wanted to be a vet, a well pet vet or at least a fix anything vet. Of course, that wasn’t possible so I didn’t continue on that path.
I don’t recall any fashion disasters. I was always very meticulous to check what I had on before leaving the house. In grade school I wore uniforms and in high school and college I always laid out what I would wear the night before, even down to the jewelry. It saved time and stress in the morning.
Jeanne, I’m late today as what seems to be happening lately.
I’ve been thinking of you and George, hoping is managing his post – op, if that’s what’s happening. I’m with everyone in hoping you take care of yourself too- we all know you’re a good nurse to George but take care yourself as well.
I’m laughing at Linda’s shoe experience – too funny!
And I love Laura’s kitty pictures. The hand toy makes me laugh- I’ve never seen some of those toys before! Too cute! it’s neat the kitties are playful. And yes, Laura, it doesn’t surprise me that you wanted to be a vet. 😊
I remember wanting to be a dancer – I love dancing although I certainly can’t do the dances I use to. 😂
My clothing disaster – my husband and I were going out somewhere special and I was excited to put on my beautiful new silk flowy blouse. My husband, who was also dressed nice came in from the garage ( not sure what he did out there) but he came up to me, touched my shoulder and said how lovely I looked in this blouse. When he removed his hand we both shrieked- he left a smudge of oil on my new silk blouse. Couldn’t wear it- so disappointed. Can’t remember if I got the oil out either!
Thank you so much, Paula! The hand toy is actually meant to be a gardening glove. The kitties have their own indoor flower garden that way.
So sorry about your blouse. Hope you got the oil out. Plain old dish soap in a 1:10 ratio does it, but you have to move fast. 🙂
I started this comment before lunch and was going to finish when I got back. It must have been Divine Intervention because something told me to copy what I’d typed before I left. Sure enough when I got back it had disappeared. I hit “paste” and here it is. Since I was almost finished I sure didn’t want to have to retype what I’d already done.
Hope all is going well with George. Keeping both of you in my prayers.
I guess you are kind of asking what we wanted to be when we grew up. For me it was always a dancer, but my parents could never afford dancing lessons. I love to perform so when I grew up I did take dancing lessons. Then while my children were growing up and took dancing the dancing school had an adult class so I danced too. For several years when my children were in different classes my hubby nearly had a family member in every recital dance. Then Andrea and Sean were in the same class and one year Sean was “the phantom” when the class danced to one of the songs from “Phantom of the Opera”. It was great and I have a wonderful picture of the two of them in costume. But I wasn’t willing to live vicariously through my children so all in all I took over 20 years of dancing, all as an adult. Not much of a career in it for me starting that late but I got to perform and that was what I always wanted to do. Didn’t care about fame and fortune just wanted to perform. These days I satisfy my addiction to performing by singing in a chorale.
Most of my sewing disasters have been minor but my major fashion disaster was always having to wear hand-me-downs. I had two aunts and a cousin who provided me with a large wardrobe but everything was already out of style, which was why they were getting rid of the clothes in the first place. So I was wearing straight skirts when pleated skirts were in style, pleated skirts when a-line skirts were in style and bathing suits that were totally out of style. I overcame the problem of out-of-style things when I was on my own and working. I had two beautiful wool plaid pleated skirts I had bought but they were no longer in style. I took them apart and took them to the cleaners and had the fabric pressed. Then I took the fabric home and made a-line skirts then took it back to the cleaners to have them cleaned and pressed so all the pleat lines were gone. The sweaters and blouses I wore with them were still good to go so I got several more years out of the outfits.
And since I didn’t get to check in yesterday I have to say that my favorite room in my house is my brand new indoor laundry room. When I said I wanted an indoor laundry room I was just thinking of something that wasn’t in the garage and would stay clean and if I dropped something on the floor I wouldn’t have to rewash it. What I got was a “palace”. It is large enough to hold my washer, dryer, side-by-side refrigerator, a small freezer and a sorting table. Plus if the guys ever get around to it there will be a nice coat/storage closet in the one corner. It also contains our Hydrow rowing machine which is long and lean so it fits perfectly on the one side and is not in the way of me doing the laundry. Besides it’s the only room in my house that doesn’t suffer from clutter at one time or the other.
I think the other question had something to do with a character we might like to be. For me I guess it would be Nancy Drew. But the vintage Nancy Drew. I’m not fond of the rewrite of the series. Then I think I might like to be Jessica Fletcher. I mostly watched “Murder She Wrote” on TV but have read a couple of the books. That would be a fun lifestyle if I could live in such a lovely place. For that I am going to have to live vicariously through my daughter since she, her husband and son are as we speak on their way to a new life in Maine.
I misread the question as “What did you want when you were growing up?” The answer is why I’m a regular reader here. I wanted a doll with a wardrobe. My AGs all have more clothes than they can wear.
I was wondering about a RRFF week — if everyone sent Jeanne their favorite RRFF photos, plus the outfits she’s made for them, I’ll bet we could have a week of RRFF inspiration. What do you think?
Good idea, Marilyn about having a RRFF Week! I would love to see everyone’s RRFF dolls, and I know that Jeanne could show some outfits she has made for them too. So let’s send in you favorite pictures of your RRFF’s! This could hlep Jeanne out.
