Happy Saturday morning to you!
(Anne had her hip surgery Thursday, so let’s keep her in our prayers that all goes well with her!)
I think the flowers and plants post was a big hit! Everyone seemed to enjoy it and we might have to make this an annual event!
My hubby has been busy clearing out some big overgrown bushes at our house. I’ll have to go through my pictures and see if I can’t find some “before” pictures and then show you what he’s done!
My sister’s and I had the best time hitting the thrift shops today… we traveled to a few nearby towns and found something at every place we stopped except for one. Everyone was happy with their treasures… I ended up with a pair of pants, a pair of jeans and a new purse! (Well, new/used!)
They are leaving Saturday morning and I’m already sad, but… they’ll be back in 6 weeks because of a class reunion bringing them back this way. So I won’t cry too hard this time, but save my tears for the end of July!
I haven’t had any time to do anything, because I wanted to spend every second I had with them.
I have this picture of us on my nightstand and think of them every time I look at it! We were inseparable way back then and still are to this day!
So today will be a “question post!”
If you have brothers or sisters, or if not, a best friend will do…
What would you plan for a fun day with them if they came to visit you?
I will see you Monday… Have a GREAT weekend!
Blessings, Jeanne
My best friend, June, lives in Mich. (we grew up together, and have been best friends since we met in first grade, 1952), and a fun day with her would be just hanging out in her sewing room, like we did the last time I was there seven years ago. I say HER sewing room, because it’s over their two-car garage, and is HUGE! It has a walk-in closet and its own full bathroom. (I told her, all she needed was a microwave and a fridge, and she’d never have to leave!) They actually built it that way so that, some day, if/when they sell, it can be advertised as a “master suite”. (My sewing room, on the other hand, is small and cramped–and, at the moment, pretty messy!)
When I was last there, we did, in fact, spend much of a day there. I showed her how to make a kind of potholder I’d found directions for and had made, she showed me projects hanging in her closet (one of which was a wall quilt I’d made for her mom years ago–her mom was our 4H leader, and taught us how to sew), various kinds of fabric she had on hand, etc. She had at that time three sewing machines and a serger set up; she also has a longarm quilt machine. Along with sewing, we did a lot of talking, too. It was a wonderful day!!
(I do have a brother, but we don’t spend a lot of time together–the occasional meal or whatever, and we talk on the phone, but I’m much closer to June.)
Dear Jeanne, what a great question. Well, my answer will not surprise any of the Sisters.
I would choose to take Afternoon Tea and/or I would choose to have a dolly play date. Of course, doing both together would be bliss.
I am always excited to take Afternoon Tea; however, I just discovered a tea “adventure” that I would have to pass on. I am going to share the link here to see what you and the Sisters think.

It’s from a YouTube video by Kirsten and Joerg. It is just too funny!
Count me IN, Dorothy! I would totally do this. It would be so much fun to feed baby lambs bottles etc. Animals and tea would be the best of both worlds. This is adorable! I love the sheep tea cozy. My daughter, mom, and I used to go to our county fair each year (haven’t been in a few now) and spend tons of time petting the calves, horses, bunnies, lambs etc. FUN!!!
Dear Laura, I used to go to our county fair also. All of the school children would go. I can still remember how the animals smelled (laugh).
Two women in my local doll club said that they would love to have the “sheep” experience. Not me. Unless it is a stuffed toy, count me out (smile). I felt sorry for the orphan sheep.
By the way, I just saw that UFDC Region 13 is having a Regional Convention in Cleveland from May 2 to May 5, 2024. I don’t know how close that is to you but if you have never been to a doll convention, you might think about this. I will post more about it when I have more information.
Oh how fun!! I so enjoyed that video, Dorothy. Thanks for sharing!
Dear Charlotte, wasn’t it a hoot? Or should I say a “baaa?” (laugh)
Now I am curious if there are other unique ways to take tea. I will have to investigate that.
The most fun I have ever had was going to the UFDC Doll convention. I have been to three over the years and it is like Dolly Heaven. They are usually four days with something going on every minute. They are pricey because of airfare and hotel costs but so worth it!
I think you are asking about what we would do for fun with our siblings, Jeanne, and I have no idea! I am the oldest of 4 girls, no brothers, and we are each so different, I can’t think of really anything we could do together! We used to get together when my parents were alive, we all had children, and got together for the holidays, birthday parties, graduations, etc. Then weddings of our children, but nothing seems to connect us anymore, and we each have our own families now. I am the only one who collects dolls, and so nothing having to do with them would be fun for the others.
I really can’t think we could ever get together for much, maybe looking through old pictures and talking about them. I can’t even remember the last time we were all together!
Love the picture of you and your sisters.
I also loved yesterday’s flowers. One of my neighbors was horrified and apologized at length because her daughter picked one of my daffodils. I thought that was a sign that she might grow up to have a garden and was glad that she’d found a flower impossible to resist.
If I had a choice, my sisters and I would go for tea at a teahouse we found about 2 hours away. We”d then go to an antiques mall about the same distance in the other direction. S0 — probably not. The best compromise would be the nearby Strawberry Festival (in spring) or Pumpkin Pie Days (in fall). In both cases, a nice, inexpensive lunch is served and there’s always something nice to buy, though space for more nice things has grown scarce. The dealers are lovely.
It used to be the place where we were most likely to meet my cousins and aunts.
Jeanne, I don’t have my surgery till tomorrow (Monday) though it will be Tuesday for you! I saw the surgeon on Thursday. He told me what I already knew that the latest x ray showed the hip had deteriorated!! I don’t know how I would have managed if I had to wait too much longer.
I only see my brother and sister in UK occasionally when I can afford it and I have only seen my brother in US the once. Fortunately I am fairly eclectic in my idea of fun. My sister and her husband are into visiting gardens and one thing I always looked forward to was going to the Tatton Park garden show. It is second only to Chelsea in UK, unfortunately I am not sure if it is still going after Covid.
My brother took me on a trip down memory lane So we went down south to Berkshire and visited my Auntie Sylia, my mothers youngest sister. We went to Oxford and had hand made ice cream at IScream, my cousin and her husbands chocolate and ice cream shop. We also went to Wantage where my Nannan and Grandad used to live. We saw the house and went on to the farm where Grandad worked and shared our memories of wonderful holidays weith them.
My brother in Texas took me to all the main tourist places near Houston but we also went to the Space Centre which was fascinating. So as you see, all very different and all fun but was that because I was with people I love?
I really enjoyed seeing the lovely flowers and gardens that the sofa sisters shared. Maybe next time I will have some pictures to show, this year the garden has just stayed tidy because I pay someone to do it. Hopefully, after my surgery I will be able to do it myself.
Dear Anne, sending blessings your way.
🙏🏻 your surgery goes well and the healing and
P T will be quick and successful!🫶
Okay, sounds like tomorrow is a go! Please keep us informed and know we’re all pulling for you. 🙂
My best friend, Ellen, fell twice this weekend and will be going into assisted living near her daughters, in Kentucky. If I can spring her out of there, we would hit the yarn stores and buy beautiful yarn for projects we will never make; she knits and I crochet. But we both love planning projects and then just collecting the yarn for our daughters to deal with!
But, since neither of us is steady on our feet, I see lunch dining out as a big adventure. That actually sounds so wonderful right now, so we shall see…
