Still tweaking my Ruby Red Fashion Friends jeans…

I’m thinking perfecting jeans for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends might be never ending… well, at least it seems that way to me… but I’m sick of tweaking for 2 days in a row, so I settled on one pair and got them looking as well as I thought possible. The trouble is I did so much “adding this and shortening that and taking in this and making this longer” that I now have a new pair of jeans but no “real” pattern to go by again… UGH! Maybe I’m closer than I think… who knows.

I picked the low rise pair that I showed last in yesterday’s post and added a very narrow waist band to keep them “huggable” around her mid-section… I definitely don’t like the ones where they stand away from her waist.

After I had the waistline finished, I worked on the legs, tapering them down to her ankle and then taking out the hem and making them 1/4″ longer.

The back has a flap on one side that has low profile Velcro and stays pretty flat against her hips.

Do you think they’ll be okay?

As soon as I finished sewing that tiny gold metal button on the front, I started looking at that light blue denim and trying to think of how I could make something out of it… and decided to try the bottom section of those rompers I made before… remember this?

It has lots of pins holding it in place, but maybe this rings a bell for you?

I’m flying by the seat of my pants on this one, because I’m not adding the bib section and just making it a fun little skirt… or maybe I should call this a skort!

I’ll have to see if I can figure out a way to finish this off without the bib part… we’ll see! :o)

I will see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I think you’ve done a great job fitting those jeans!! Those of us who make garments know that it is no easy thing to get a pair of jeans or slacks to fit “just right”–skirts are much easier!! I like what you did with the waist; it looks really cute with that little midriff top!

The culottes or skort or whatever you’re going to call them has potential, also. It looks like another fun ensemble is being assembled in the Jeanne Marie studio!

Joy, glad to hear you pulled off another dolly caper!!

Jeanne, you are doing a great job on those jeans, especially when you think how small they really are!

Oh, that skort is just what the top needs! I love that light blue color, so cool and refreshing looking! Also the design of the skort is not so tight around her legs and it is much more what one would wear in this hot, sticky weather. You always seem to get it right, Jeanne, and this is no exception!

  3. Lovin the jeans!! We all know how hard it it to find the perfect fitting jeans, even the same brand (wink, wink!), the skort looking great, I’ve been hoping to see you to reuse that pattern. The original was so cute. Little buttons matching the dots in the crop top as trim, maybe even a little of the same cluny lace sticking out of the seam above the hip to the waist with colored buttons? We know you’ll something perfect. Can’t wait to see. How about sandals from the either light blue with dotted trim or dotted sandals? Gotta go I feel like sewing!!

Cute idea Jeanne! Definitely a piece that will round out a summer wardrobe. I would also like to see a pair of simple shorts that the girls/boys might wear on an outing to the mountains or coast or for doing some gardening. Hey hey. 🙂
Maybe a big sunhat to go with it.
I’m so happy to have had some time to open my latest two RRFF kids and help them escape from their boxes. Alma, has become Anne, and is so close to Anne of Green Gables. Her outfit is adorable. Then, Russell, is excited to join the other boys. I think they have an outing to the local creek planned. Hope they bring home some pollywogs. 🙂
Thanks everyone for the nice comments yesterday on the latest episode of Dolls of our Lives! Title curtesy of Barbara. 🙂

Couldn’t resist the title, especially since you have new episodes often just like a soap opera. The pools are coming along. There are two of them. One is mine and one belongs to Jaiden. The pool is usually made from ripstop but I could not find a piece big enough. You need quite a bit and I could not find a piece big enough online. So I had some PUL I had used for diaper covers and the two pieces I had left were just what I needed for the pools. Not much left over. One of the pieces is owls and the other monkeys with bananas. Not sure who will get which just yet. I will be putting the liners together today and then David said he will put the pools together using the CPVC. I will try to remember to take pictures. I’m the worst for that.

Hi Joy, thanks for sharing what Alma’s surprise was. Hopefully, you can share photos of all the new girls and boy in the future, but I completely understand that yard work hampers doll play.

Dear Jeanne, I like the jeans. I think that color goes nicely with the top.

I think she will need some kind of ball to toss about. Maybe there is one in the toy box.

Those jeans are perfect. When I make pants for my dolls I try to make sure they don’t have a gap in the back but I often see pants for dolls for sale that don’t seem to pay any attention to that. I like the addition of the skort, skirt or whatever it becomes.

Love the jeans! Fit is awesome. Need to let you know, Jeanne, how much I appreciate your describing the trials you sometimes go through to get the fit and look “right”. My sewing skills are VERY limited and most everything I make for my dolls is a monumental struggle as nothing is intuitive or easy for me. It helps to know that even the best seamstresses sometimes encounter challenges. Please also know that you gave me the courage to try to sew knits. The paper trick is wonderful! Thank you!!

The jeans look great and the skort is adorable.
So glad to hear that you are home now, Anne, and pray that you feel better each day. I’m sure snuggling with your pup will help.

Thought I posted something this AM but guess not😳
Those jeans are just fantastic. If I had to be really super picky they could be tighter across the tush and upper thigh…only on the back. From the front they are perfection. It is so hard to get them right. I made a pattern for little darling jeans and they were great…then I lost the pattern. Like you I had changed it so many times ……I didn’t start over.
The culotte skirt is cute too…why not just put the bib on it? You already have that all figured out.
Joy… I missed yesterday so had to go back and read the latest Doll Delivery Caper. Good recovery! Maybe we will get to see some pics? They sound darling!
