I worked again today on my “blue” things. If you read yesterday’s post, you know what I mean…
Let’s start with my island… I sanded the first coat and then painted it a second coat… I’m getting excited to finish it and get it in my kitchen.
I took the tape off around the bottom and removed the newspaper so now you can see how the wood looks next to the paint.
Tomorrow I’ll put a coat or two of clear wax on it and then a coat of dark wax to give the carved out places some definition.
This is what the first blue slip looked like… the one that didn’t pass my standards…
After thinking about it throughout the day, I decided to give the blue ruffled slip another try. I cut another section of ruffled fabric but this time I decided to do it a little different.
I gathered up 3 rows of basting and carefully pulled the rows into a half circle…
This time I decided to stitch everything to strips of paper, to stabilize the fabric.
Then peeled the perforated strips off the backside.
Any basting stitches showing were pulled out carefully too.
Stitching it on the paper made it much easier to finish the rest of the slip…
After finishing the slip I sewed the snaps on the back and added some tiny blue buttons.
So here she is…
Just one more…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Things are progressing on your island! I’m glad you’re going to use some dark wax to help bring out some of that lovely carving on the sides. It would be a shame to have them “disappear”.
Hooray! You got the blue slip to work after all!! It’s so pretty–one of the prettiest slips you’ve made, I think. (And I’m not really a “blue person”, preferring lavenders and pinks, but I like this!)
Emmie looks so pretty in that dress. Some little dollie is going to love it (And the petticoat!).
Jeanne, whatever you did with the slip,….it works! It does compliment the beautiful blue flowers of the dress perfectly, and does a wonderful job of holding out the skirt! And now you have a white one for your Etsy shop!
Well, I mentioned how your island paint looked green yesterday, but today it looks blue! I guess the second coat helped to make that happen!
Yes, that carving on it needs to stand out more, since it is what gives the island character, and interest. I too, can’t wait to see it in the kitchen and how you “fix” it up!
So glad you tried again on that slip. It is definitely one of my favorites. 🙂
Can’t wait to see a pic of the island piece in your kitchen. If it ends up being too small, I think it would make a perfect game or side table in another room. I wasn’t sure I’d like it painted as the original look was so nice, but it is growing on me. 🙂
So nice to have that rain settle the pollen around here. But it will be back to getting the yard in shape as soon as it dries out a bit.
I keep looking at Ruby Red Galleria’s Gigi, but haven’t pushed the button yet. Anyone else have Gigi?
You hit the mark on both your “ BLUE” items. I see what you mean about stitching the fabric on paper to stabilize it. The blue slip is such a unique color addition. Another score😉
The island looks great… the dark wax show off the design and that will be a knockout. It is a nice piece.
Off to plant a couple things and move my seedlings out to get used to the wind.
Great “save” on the blue slip. It is special because it is so different than usual. I can’t wait to see your finished “island” and how you are going to use it in your kitchen. I don’t have room for an island in my kitchen but my counter has an angle that is sort of like an island. It’s facing my oven and is great when removing things from the oven and also the refrigerator. Saves steps.
I’ve never been a fan of Barbie because she came out right at the end of my doll years (we preteen girls thought we were too grown up for dolls – little did we know). My sisters had them but I thought the initial Barbies were not very good looking. But over the years I have watched some of the collector Barbies and they are beautiful. But I wasn’t into collecting them just seeing them. Well now they have come out with a Barbie and Ken package that includes both of them and Barbie is absolutely beautiful. Won’t be buying it but it is lovely to see.
So nice to hear from you Anne the other day. I hope your surgery gets scheduled very soon and you can get back to doing things you love.
Your island is coming along quite nicely, Jeanne. I like the little feather detail on the sides.
So glad you tried again on the blue slip. I love many shades of blue and a blue slip under a blue dress is just lovely. The trailing white bow is sweet.
Hi Jeanne, Love your cute kitchen island, What a nice find. I’m sure it’s going to look lovely in your kitchen. The blue slip is perfect for this adorable dress. I liked the white but this blue one is soooo pretty!
I hope you don’t mind but if I could ask a favor of the sofa sisters… Lawrence, my hubby is undergoing a procedure on his heart tomorrow morning, we could really use all the prayers possible! Thank you so very much
Hugs
Ingrid
Ingrid, count me as one who will be praying for Lawrence! I hope the procedure is successful!
Hi Ingrid,
I will keep you both in my prayers tomorrow morning and all day long too! I saw a picture of you and your hubby on Facebook yesterday, I think… what a sweet pair you are!
Blessings, Jeanne
