How did I not know about lights for your sewing machine?
This is what my sewing machine looks like when I’m sewing, with ONLY my machine light on…
The light is yellowish and I have trouble taking pictures for you and having them be true to color…
I found this package at the Goodwill and it was only $1.32… so I decided to give it a try! I’ll just tell you from the start… it’s fabulous! I do LOTS of my sewing at night and I’m always struggling to see what I’m sewing. I do have an OTT light beside my machine that I pull over and focus it on my sewing, but this new light is like a dental light right where I need it… BEST. $1.32. I’VE. SPENT. IN. A. LONG. TIME!!! (I’ve added a link to the company selling them at the bottom of this post.)
The on/off switch is on the cord and when you touch that mark on the cord… if you hold down on the on/off symbol, the light will dim or get brighter… Just tap that symbol and it comes on or goes off… very simple!
I’m sure there might be other brands out there, but this one was by Love-Sew. The package contains the LED light attached to adhesive tape that is easily applied to your machine… and can be shortened if the opening of your machine isn’t as long as the tape… I had to cut off about 2 inches for my machine.
I found a video that shows you exactly how to add the light to your machine… it’s about 9 minutes long. I watched it first, just so I’d get it right. It’s easy peasy… You can read the rest of the post and then go back and watch the video if you are interested…
Video of installing the light to your sewing machine
I first opened up the package and plugged it in to make sure it worked… it did… and I knew I was going to love it!
The adhesive strip is VERY STICKY so don’t peel it all off at once…but a little at a time. The video tells you to lay your machine on it’s side if possible… it’s easier to see what you are doing…
After I had the strip in place, I added one of the adhesive clips to curve the cord toward the back…
…then added another clip at the back…
Look at the difference in the color of this fabric from the first picture by using this new light! This is pretty close to what the fabric actually looks like.
I turned on my machine’s light but it has that yellow light. So the next time I’m in town, I’m going to try and find an LED bulb for my machine and then it will be perfect!!
Look how bright this makes my sewing area and I can’t wait to sew something at night to see how well it works! I LOVE IT!
Here is a link to the company that sells this particular light… It’s the first item that pops up, but it’s fun to read all the reviews about the lights… and see their other gadgets for sewing!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Congratulations on your terrific find–and what a great price, too!! Yes, I’ve seen this (or something similar) at Expo over the last few years–probably by more than one company, I would imagine. My machine has fairly good light, so I haven’t invested in these lights for it, but I can see that it makes a huge difference for you.
By all means, check your machine place for an LED lightbulb for your machine. I know they make them for our really old old Featherweights, so I’m sure they’re available for your more recent New Home machine, too.
Hope everyone had a lovely Easter. We had a potluck brunch at church before worship; I opted to just go to church, as I didn’t want to leave Ron too long. He fell again Sat. morning (had fallen Thurs. night, too, in the IHOP men’s room, but didn’t tell me until we were on the way home), and is having some trouble getting around right now. However, we were gifted some fresh fruit and some homemade cinnamon buns left from the brunch, so that was really nice!
That is an amazing find. I have a little light that sticks on too. The more light the better😉 Lucky me…got the nasty cold/ cough my hubby has🫣 but not as bad.
Easter was so nice…hadn’t been that warm for so long.
Well…On my way to find another box of Kleenex😲
Well…I did it again….wrote in the wrong box😲
Charlotte, So sorry Ron has had a rough week ..those falls are the worst. Glad you got to go to the Easter Service even if it was by yourself🫶
What a great find for you, Jeanne! And to think it came from Goodwill! You might want to sit down before you read this, but I have never been in a Goodwill store, at least not that I can remember! It got me thinking that something like that could be also great for under the counter lighting in the kitchen, although this one is made for sewing machines. My daughter is moving into a house that has been remodeled, and it has very similar lights to these underneath the cabinets. What a differece they make!
Yesterday was such a beautiful day weatherwise, and so nice to celebrate Easter with kids running around outside for their Easter Egg hunts!!
I too have been looking at extra lighting for my machine although it does have a very bright light already. I need all of the light I can find. 🙂 I’ve also seen a light that includes extra magnification which would also be appreciated. I wasn’t sure about sticking the lights on to my machine. but yours came out great. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Had a fun Easter at grands. Great lunch, egg hunt, and fun seeing everyone. Even saw a video of middle grand flying around on the silks. I had no idea what that was, but apparently, it is popular with kids now. They have very long pieces of fabric suspended from a high ceiling that one climbs up by wrapping the fabric around arms/legs and then doing aerial acrobatics. They even did one stunt with all three girls on one set of silks performing. Pretty amazing to see for me at least. 🙂
Looks like another sunny day. Yay!
I had not heard about the silks. Where was that when I was young? I would have loved it. I saw something like that on a show I was watching the other night but I can’t remember exactly what show it was. I’ll ask hubby to see if he remembers. I’m with you on the lots of light and magnification thing. I keep a magnifying glass on my desk for reading things like instructions or when there are a lot of numbers. My reading glasses sometimes are not enough. Having had perfect vision most of my life this is driving me nuts and I know it keeps me from sewing as much as I’d like.
Great find. My machine lighting is pretty good and I have an Ott light that sits between my sewing machine and serger. So I’m good to go, but when I was using Jaiden’s machine the lighting was terrible so I might look into getting something like this for her. She has a vision problem in her one eye, but her problem does not seem to slow her down. She is an avid reader and also loves to do craft projects and we hope in time her glasses will force that eye to work harder and her vision will improve.
My new serger has LED lights and the light coverage is amazing. I never feel I’m in my own light. Can’t wait to get the LED ceiling light installed. That’s probably another summer project to do in the A/C.
Our Easter day here was overcast until late afternoon when we finally saw the sun for the first time in days. Thought I’d moved to the Pacific Northwest. My one stepdaughter lives in Portland, OR, and when she came to visit us one spring all she wanted to do was lay out in the sun. She said they wouldn’t see if for at least another month. But it was still pretty wet out from all the rain last week so the egg hunt was held in the church, which cut our choir practice in half. Since our son and his family changed churches we just meet them for lunch after now. Dionne picked a new brunch/lunch place and it was delicious.
Thanks Jeanne! I think I could use this. I too have a hard time trying to “see” when sewing at night (and I ALSO use an Ott light). This could be a solution
