WOW! Lots of comments today… I was actually going to try and answer everyone today… I looked at the comments earlier and there were 8…that’s doable… but then my hubby needed me to look up some things on the computer for him (he’s TOTALLY computer illiterate), and his “requests” kept coming… but we got some things on “his” to-do list checked off… He thanked me and said he’d buy me an Amy’s Roasted Vegetable pizza for my help! LOVE those pizzas! :o)
I did want to say, what I mentioned yesterday, was kind of written to just be a humorous post… I’m talking about the part where he asked if that was a doll box and I said, Oh No, and the details of that story. He is actually fine with me buying dolls…within reason, I’d say! He knows they make money for me/us and he knows I love what I do, which is kind of nice; because when he buys a new tool, I know HE LOVES TOOLS and uses them when he works… so it works both ways for us. :o)
Also, congratulations to Charlotte from me too… on your first great grandbaby. Skyler sounds like he was half grown at birth… 9 pounds, 14 ounces is a BIG baby…. I’m praying Sarah is much better by now and enjoying her new baby boy!
I wanted to make Felicity a Reticule to go with her new dress set, but was having a hard time finding some kind of vintage looking lace in my stash that was white and not beige or ecru… I searched and searched and finally found a vintage hankie that had embroidery work on all four corners… 2 opposite corners were slightly messed up so cutting the hankie for an apron wasn’t going to work… I cut it apart and used it with the 2 good sides stacked on top of each other… then I did some embellishing on it and had one blue silk ribbon left for a drawstring. I didn’t have any white ribbon left… The blue glass beads at the bottom give it some weight and make it hang better.
The reticule opens up and the silk drawstring easily goes over your dolls hand.
I decided to see if I could remember all the steps Rebecca told me and made a white pearl necklace to fill in the area between the dolls neck and the cloth body.
I guess I paid attention when Rebecca was giving me tips, because I did it! :o)
This set is now almost finished… I’m thinking of 2 more things… can you guess them?
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Felicity and her accessories just look lovely Jeanne! I think some kind of hat would go along with her but I am not sure of the second thing. A BIG congratulations ššš¾š goes out to Charlotte and her big me great-grandson! Nine pounds! WOW! I was only six pounds even when I was born! Everyone called me a little peanut š„ Funny story, when my dad had to work he would drop all of my bottles for the week with my Pa and he would bring my swing but I was so little that when you put me in the swing my head would tilt so they had to put carefully folded towels on each side of my head so it would stay straight and not fall..
Sally I looked on the RRFF Website and I didnāt see any thing about the Queen Elizabeth doll. Do you know where I would look for her. May I ask how much she costs?
I donāt know if my neighbor will go shopping with me but I did already get that gel that stops the fabric from fraying, a measuring tape and scissors. Thank you so much for you for you kind good luck wishes. Oh and Barbra I wanted to say I am sorry about your grandsons hardships but it will only make them stronger in life! I donāt know if you believe in a Higher Power but everyone has their cross to bear. I know I have! I donāt have a real friend because a I decided that when I saw what alcohol did to my family I didnāt want anything to do with it nor drugs or smoking. My family has lost SO MANY peopleā¦it still hurts. I have a bad back, I had surgery on my neck and now have a plate, cage, and a four screw inside me! I was a mother to my mother for a very long time then she started to hurt me so I had to move in with my dad. Without me my mom didnāt take very good care of herself and now she keeps going between hospitals and her nursing type home. I am just saying everyone has something! So š¤ hugs š¤ to you and your grandsons! I will leave with a quote.
ā Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle.ā -Abraham Lincoln-
Good morning, Lauren,
Great quote from Abe Lincoln. There is an old Russian or Jewish tale about how things could always be worse, and that sure is the truth.
There is nothing on the website about Elizabeth yet. Because I follow some RRFF FB pages, I get the news. DO sign up for their emails, although you will get information sooner from FB. The page I was telling you about for fanclub members that needed to provide proof of owning a limited edition RRFF is called Ruby Red Fashion Friends fanclub (Official) and use the upper and lower case letters as shown here. Ruby Hoās son and various company reps respond to questions and drop hints now and then. His name is Fred but he goes by Derf RubyRed on that page.
Generally, the special dolls are $199.99 with about $15 shipping from Hong Kong.
Elizabeth will NOT be on the sales page until about 2 days before she is available for preorder. Hope this helps.
Felicity’s reticule certain adds a beautiful and feminine touch to this ensemble! Very pretty, very feminine.
Thank you all for the congratulatory notes on the arrival of our first great-grandson! Yes, he is a big “little guy”!! We are pleased that Sarah is doing quite well now, and they are going to go home from the hospital tomorrow (Wed.). I’m hoping that I can get down there once they have kind of settled in and gotten into some kind of routine. I have already made him a sleeper–I’m glad it’s a 6 months; wouldn’t be surprised if he wears it way before he’s 6 months old! I have another project in mind for him, too.
Elaine, you mentioned a woman from S. Korea who does sewing tutorials; could you share that link, please? I’d like to check that out. It was so thoughtful of you to get a Felicity doll for your d-i-l. I did something similar one year for my d-i-l; she had talked about a Cabbage Patch Kid she’d had, and which she lost in a house fire when she was still fairly young. It happened I had a nice one I’d picked up in the thrift store; it fit the description she’d given, so I dressed her and wrapped her up and sent her with to her with the gifts I sent for the children. I understand there were tears when she opened it!!
So glad to hear about Sarah, Charlotte. Wonāt you have the greatest time holding that little fellow?
Hi Charlotte
Congratulations on your new GreatGrandbaby. Sam had a tough time when she had Jono and ended up with a cesaerean. He had a tough time as well and had a pulse rate of 240bmp so was put in an incubator for a while. He was also 9lb14oz and completely filled the incubator! Fortunately he wasn’t in it for long.
Jeanne, that reticule is just beautiful and so fitting for this set! That is the perfect hankie for it, and I love the extra sparkle the beads porvide! The choker is perfect too, and you did a wonderful job with that!
As for as two extra things, well, she does need somehting to cover her head. Not sure if the two things might be a mob cap, plus a big straw hat, or just a pinner cap and some boots? Knowing you, it could be either one….or not! You always surprise us!
Lauren, I wonder if you are an early riser or a late nighter!! You seem to live in Illinois, which is right next to me, so we are in the same time zone, versus Charlotte, who is way out there in the Pacific time zone! You certainly have a story there, and I hope your new interest in dolls help you cope with the difficulties you have. You certainly have come to the right place to be with such caring people, thanks to Jeanne!
Thank you Linda! However, dolls have been getting me through hard times for a long time now! At least since I was four years old and I still have that doll however, I think she looks quite different than when when my grandma gave her to me!
I absolutely love how this dress turned out! I think the fabric is gorgeous, and I especially love the long stitches on the white neckline ruffle.
Congratulations Charlotte, on the arrival of your great grandson! I love his name. And gosh, over nine pounds! Big boy for sure.
Our new little guy turned a month old on Monday and I was able to spend the afternoon with him. We’re so lucky to live only 10 mins. from my son and daughter-in-law.
Just returned from the Reticule rabbit hole, 1795-1825, or about there. So interesting that the previous pockets of Colonial dress were under the skirt, accessed through slits in dress seams. The change to Reticules came about because fabrics in Europe and elsewhere became lighter and more transparent making the pockets unusable. The beautiful elaborate Reticules I think, added so much to a ladies outfit. However, it appears that the men often made fun of women and called the Reticules ridiculous, thereby different spellings. š
Lauren and anyone else interested, all of the Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls made so far can be accessed in the archive. If you go to RRFFToys and then on the top bar, click on I think the second box at the top, across the choices shown on the right is the Archive. Really fun to see all of the dolls made now listed by year.
Love Jeanne’s Reticule for Felicity. I’m thinking that she will make some kind of head covering next. Maybe Felicity will have a pet kitty as well? Guess we’ll find out. š
Jeanne, if I werenāt āoverā AG dolls, I would bid on this set. Itās smoking hot, dear lady, although I do prefer your hoop slips from days of yore. I just looked at my neglected Felicity and she is wearing your green and cream Christmas set from several years ago with her lace mob cap under her large brim hat. SO dear āJMā, I, too, am betting those will be the next two pieces. š
You learned your lessons from Rebecca well and the reticule is a work of art.
Joy, you and Marilyn are the great history lesson gals for us sisters. Thanks to both of you when you pass on juicy tidbits of fun facts.
I love this beautiful outfit, but I think I have mentioned I donāt own any American Girl dolls. That doesnāt keep me from always reading your posts, Jeanne, and enjoying the pictures! I agree that something for her head would be next, and how about a pet kitten?
The dress is lovely and the extra pieces always make them so special. I wonder whether Rebecca might be interested in keeping her dress. What kind of fabric do you think itās made of? It doesnāt wrinkle or crush. Jeanne had the best suggestion about pressing every seam open.
Iāll send along a picture of Rose with an AG piece of furniture, just if Jeanne has room for it sometime. Itās the perfect size for RRFF dolls. Her wig is loose but I use just a dab of Museum Wax which keeps the wig on very well but allows it to be removed without damaging it. Itās available on eBay or Amazon. Iāve heard little dots of it are available at Michaelās.
Safari froze again and all my comments are goneš„“
Congrats on that bundle of joy Charlotte! Iāll bet you canāt wait to cuddle him. We need a picture and then when you get to hold him a pic with him and you and Ronš¤š
Jeanne, the accessories you have added to this dress are each so lovelyā¦love the embroidery and the pearls . Always fun to watch each outfit come together.
Have a book ready to readā¦.snow has started and we are supposed to get 7āā¦. Time will tell. I ran to the mailbox quick to mail an eBay item and this is a wet snowman snow. That would be fun for sure. Wish we had kids on our streetš
Snow here too — about 6″. It looks like it may start again.
My nephew and niece-in-law took pictures of their baby every day — same chair and the new date every day. What fun to watch her grow and change. They gave us each a small book of the photos.
I think Felicity needs a cap and hat. Nothing is prettier than those wide brimmed hats. The pelerine deserves most of the attention, so neither cap nor hat would need to be elaborate, but your colonial hats are always beautiful. This is a perfect spring outfit — it makes me feel hopeful just looking at it.
