Saturday Chatterday…

I’m very sorry, but I still have too many things to do getting ready for the funeral tomorrow and the dinner afterwards to make a post… I was going to show some archived Christmas dresses on my dolls, but I don’t have time… We just got home from the visitation and tried to do as much to get ready for the dinner as we could tonight… and I can’t make a post happen, so I’m calling today Saturday Chatterday! You can talk about whatever you like… what you’re hoping to get for Christmas, share a Christmas cookie (or whatever) recipe, tell us about a new doll you hope to get, tell us about a fun game you play with your family or friends, share a Christmas tradition your family has, whatever you like… I’ll try to check in if I can…

Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you Monday!
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, Jeanne, congratulations on the auction!! To tell you the truth, I got busy today and forgot to check back on how it was doing, so I guess I won’t have to worry about some little girls fighting over the purple boots, anyway! LOL

This is a challenging Christmas for us, I think, with Ron rapidly losing ground. He so wants to go Christmas shopping for me–we did get out and I left him sitting on his walker, looking at cards, so he got my card the other day anyway. As to gift, earlier in the fall, when the “Countdown to Christmas” box was offered thru the Missouri Start Quilt Co., I suggested to Ron that I order it, and it could be his “big” gift to me, so he wouldn’t have to worry about shopping. Each day I get the appropriately numbered gift out of the box, and open it with him, and thank him for my Christmas present! (And, of course, with my breaking my arm a month ago, I really haven’t done much shopping myself, either!) So he kind of smiles when I do that.

I may have mentioned a favorite cookie recipe I have–it’s a refrigerator cookie, so pretty easy to make, and then slice and bake after it’s chilled. It has both red and green candied cherries in it, and is very festive on the plate! If anyone is interested, I can dig out the recipe and share it.

Will be keeping you and your church family in prayer as your pastor and his family celebrate the life of their wife/mother.

I have posted it below for you, Kathie. You could just copy and paste it onto a Word document and print it off, if you wish.

  2. Hey, Y”all,
I just finished reading all your kind comments about my Tia and Mae’s outfits. Thank you all so much. I got behind because I had lots of cookies to make, package and mail before going away for the weekend. I love sewing these, finding the right beads, combining fabrics. I had a lot of them left from sewing for my Kish Song back then. I hope to make more for a Meadow Asian “tween” doll I have preordered, after Christmas though. We are in Crystal River, FL for the weekend, where I lived for 31 years. Nice to catch up with old friends. Merry Christmas to you all!

  3. I always say I’m not getting anymore dolls. However, every so often a doll comes along that I fall for and that’s what I get myself for my birthday or Christmas gift. I haven’t been interested in any until I saw RRFF’s Violette. Of course she was sold out before she barely landed. Does anyone know of a Violette up for sale? Most likely their isn’t but a girl can ask.
I’m sure everyone’s spinning around with preparations for the holidays. Enjoy the season as best you can before it’s over!

I haven’t seen any lately, but there is a FB page for RRFF Sales. I’d check there and the other pages as you never know. 🙂

  4. We’re expecting very cold weather next week, in the teens. I spent the morning getting out the extra styrofoam sheets I had ordered to make additional outdoor cat houses ready to go. I have three heated ones on the porch already, but need more shelters so I’m lining plastic covered cardboard boxes with styrofoam since I really can’t buy any more houses. I still need to head out to the garden store to purchase straw to line them with. Hopefully I can spend a few minutes running through their gift shop for a quick look at the Christmas decor and a walk through the cut Christmas trees. It’s always all so pretty to see.

So kind of you to make the outdoor kitty homes. Hope it warms up for you and kitties soon.

Hi again! Kathie asked for my cookie recipe, so here it is. It’s from a very old, well-loved/used Bake-Off Cookie Favorites book that cost a whole 98¢ back in 1969 (several years before I was married!). It’s become a favorite cookbook for me, with several recipes I keep making because they are so good.

    CHERRY-NUT SLICES

    2-1/4 c. flour
1 c. butter or margarine, softened
    1 egg
    2 Tbsp. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. candied cherries
    1 c. pecan halves

In large bowl, combine all ingredients except cherries and nuts. Blend well at low speed. Stir in cherries and pecans; mix thoroughly. If necessary, chill 1 hour. Shape dough into two 10″ rolls; wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap. Chill 1-2 hours (can be longer, if needed). Cut into 1/4″ slices, using a sharp knife. Place on ungreased cookie sheets Bake at 400° for 7-10 min., until set and Very Lightly browned. Cool.

For Christmas, I use about half and half, red and green cherries. It looks so festive! I’ve also used walnuts instead of pecans (or you could leave the nuts out, if there are allergies).

You could line your cookie sheet with parchment paper, as the candied cherries might stick just a bit. To store the cookies, once they are cool, I do put waxed paper between the layers, for the same reason! Enjoy.
