I had a bit of a dolly caper myself!

I’m SO glad everyone enjoyed the stories that I shared yesterday! It seems like we all have a story to tell, and because we sew, or cook or craft, we have the BEST stories! Whether we did a backwards video, drank bleach, stapled an outfit together… I give EVERYONE a huge thank you for participating! It made for a very fun read! We’ll have to do it again!

Now to “my” dolly caper… Okay, right off the bat, it involves a new doll…and it happened a few weeks ago, but I’ve had too much on my plate to even think about sharing it…

I saw a doll that caught my eye, but I wasn’t sure if I needed or really wanted it… but I kept looking at it, debating the pros and cons… There were only 100 made worldwide, so I wondered if it was already sold out. It was an exclusive doll and probably pretty popular. Well, one night I emailed and asked Sally her thoughts, and of course, she “encouraged” me to go for it… so I went to the site, ready to push the BUY IT and it was SOLD OUT! It said none were available… and since it was a limited edition of only 100 dolls, I was out of luck. It’s funny how you think you might want a doll, but aren’t sure, and then when you find out you can’t get it, you are disappointed… I was sort of sad… but decided to write to the owner of the shop who was selling them, and just “ask” if there was a possibility of them getting any more in… Well, late that night I got a response back and he told me he had one “with my name on it, if I wanted it!” I was thrilled and said, “Of course.” He sent me an invoice and I paid and then laid awake most of the night wondering if I had done the right thing… *yikes*

I didn’t tell my hubby about the doll coming, but the day that the box was “out for delivery” my hubby just happened to be going into the church to work on something… YAY! But he came home and the mailman still hadn’t come… RATS! I was watching out the window to keep an eye on the driveway and that white mail truck… One time I went over to the door and looked out the window and “somehow” the mailman had come and the box was out on the bricks… just laying there… I looked out the living room window and my hubby was back by the chicken coop working on something! I opened the front door and retrieved my box… knowing what was inside…

We had to go somewhere, so I wasn’t able to take a peek inside, but I knew the box was safe in my sewing room and I’d open it later…

When we got back home, I couldn’t wait to open the box… out of the brown shipper box, anyone recognize this box?

Maybe this will help…

Yep, it’s another Ruby Red Fashion Friend doll… almost revealed…

Meet James… yes, I bought a boy doll…

SO many ladies were wanting boy clothing and I thought I’d at least give it a shot… He’s very handsome…

His darker skin tone is very pretty, and I’m hoping it photographs well…

I know I bought a boy doll, but I just couldn’t resist… seeing what James might look like as a “Jamie!” :o)

What I was most curious to see were his clothes… In the pictures I had seen, they looked unbelievable… A belt and a tie…

…a fun pair of canvas shoes…

The most incredible clothes… a vest, a pair of pants and a shirt…

Look at the details on this shirt… real button holes, a stand collar and even plackets on the inside of the shirt cuffs…

…and then the pants. I’ve seen pants made for men that aren’t this well made…

I only took the pieces out to show you, but I didn’t try them on James… I’m going to sell them… (as much as it pains me!) :o(

But I HAD to try on his hat. It was just too adorable…

Isn’t he just the sweetest thing? I haven’t had any time to sew for him, but I will… I’m trying to make the wedding dress alteration a goal… when I get it finished, I can sew for James…

So a few days ago, my hubby was going down the hallway and I asked him, “Are you in a good mood?” He said, “yes, why?”

“Oh, I just wanted to show you something in my sewing room!”

He followed behind me and when he saw the box opened on my cutting table, he said in his little kid-like voice… “Did you buy a new doll?”

“I did, meet James!” He thought he was very cute and especially loved his hat!

So now he knows, (we don’t keep too many secrets between us, so I felt relieved knowing he knew about James!)

So one of these days I’ll get something made for him… It will be fun to see what I come up with. I’d like to make things that not everyone else is… I’m not sure what that is, but when I get a chance to check things out, I’m sure I’ll find out! :o)

So that was my dolly caper… it doesn’t hold a candle to some of Joy’s adventures, but my heart was sure beating faster when I saw that dolly box out there on those bricks… it must be something that only happens to dolly lovers!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, wow, you got James!! He is so cute, and yes, his clothing is so Very well made!! Congratulations. (I think you should definitely keep his hat and shoes, even if you don’t keep his outfit. Or keep his outfit long enough to really study the details, should you decide to make something similar.)

I think I would like to have had James, or maybe a boy LD, BUT….we have so many boys in our family, so almost all of my dolls are Girls!! It’s just so much more fun to sew for girls, I think! So, I do believe I will stick to my girls-only tribe here, at least for now!

Thought I would comment on a couple of things from yesterday:

Joy, thanks for sharing the family picture. What fun they all have!

Paula, I didn’t cut the crotch too deep on those PJ bottoms, I just sewed up the leg and right up thru the crotch! I took the crotch seams out, and put one leg inside the other so I could sew the crotch seam correctly.

Kathie, actually I caught it before the stuff burned in the pan, which was fortunate. If I hadn’t gotten home when I did, Ron wouldn’t have noticed until the black smoke reached the living room!! Haha…

Joy, I remember the days of garter belts and then girdles, too. In a way, they were better for us “shrimps” as stockings came in a lot of different sizes, and if the stockings were too long, we could just fold the tops down and fasten the garters thru all the layers! I don’t miss the girdles, though!!

    1. Sorry Charlotte, you did describe what happened but because I don’t sew, I seldom understand any sewing process.
I meant for the crotch of my project to look ridiculous since the joke was I don’t know how to do anything concerning sewing!

That’s quite all right, Paula. I kind of forget that not everyone sews!! 😂 I’ve had people’s eyes glaze over while I wax eloquent about a particular sewing project! I’m sure they are bored silly!!

A great buy. I cannot have such dolls, they are too expensive for me. I have a doll boy D’nenes Carmen González and of course 2 x Ken.

Oh, Jeanne, a boy doll! He is just adorable,……both as James AND Jamie! I love his skin tone too! I don’t really think you would have had any trouble adding him to your little doll family with George, since he knows you MAKE money on your dolls, whereas the rest of us LOSE money on them, as in buying them clothes!

Like Charlotte, I think you should keep some of those clothing items or rather accessories to use, like the hat, and belt. Also, make patterns from the clothes he came in that might come in handy later on. I just wonder who makes the clothes for the RRFF dolls? They certainly are wonderfully made and detailed.

Yesterday’s capers were so fun to read, and I do remember the days of nylons, garter belts and girdles all too well! Why was I wearing a girdle all those years, when I look back at pictures and realize I didn’t need it? And now that I do, I don’t???🤣

James is beautiful. I like it when dolls have more than one line for their eyebrows. It is like the creator cares about the details then. I love his skin tone, too. I’m glad your husband knows about him. It will be less stressful for you. I found an American Girl doll for a very cheap price but am afraid my husband will want it sent to the shed. It is fun to look for dolls while I go thrift shopping, but I don’t want my hope of finding them to be taken away and the fun of shopping.
I also wanted to tell you that shortly after we got married (we were living in a camper next to a barn on Missouri by a beautiful spring-fed creek), I was installing insulation on the barn ceiling with plastic gloves on, and I lost my beautiful engagement ring! It had an opal and two little diamonds and white gold. Unfortunately I never found it. That was my most expensive ring I ever had. We moved away from there, so it is gone for good. But I do hope your husband finds his ring!

Dear Jeanne, thanks for sharing your story. James is a cutie. I am still hoping one day to find Victoria. I found out about her too late and didn’t get to the site in time to get her.

Yes, the stories yesterday were so funny. Thanks for letting us share.

Love your James. The one here is right by the computer. He’s still in his undies too. Hope I can get him dressed in that suit soon. The rest of the boys here are looking forward to seeing your possible boy outfits. Don’t forget the Siblie boys as well. They like to look fashionable too. 🙂
Glad you were able to shuffle James into the house undetected. 🙂 You were so nice to tell George. 🧚‍♀️
The latest Christmas girls are up today on RubyRedToys.com Fan Edition. Trying to decide. They will be for sale starting tomorrow there as well as in the U.S., Happily and Samantha’s and around the world. 🙂
Can’t believe that it is Thursday, already. November is flying by. 🙂

My mother lost her 25th anniversary ring. It was a good-sized excellent quality diamond, and she loved it so much that she told me she realized she was worrying about what the ring must be thinking. She had been here in my backyard and, worried she might have dropped it here, she got my dad to cut my lawn while she went through the clippings, one handful at a time. She was doing penance for losing it.

One day she saw a crumpled kleenex on a bed in the room that once was mine (shared with my next sister). She picked it up to throw it away and thought, “What if this is my ring?” She opened the kleenex and the ring was home.

By the way, when my dad bought it, the jeweler told my mom, “The safest place for a ring this nice is on your finger.”

I had slept in that bed after the ring was lost. I have no idea how it got there and no one but the ring ever knew either. George’s ring may find its way home too.

You usually sell a doll’s original outfit. Keep this one — you may want to use this dressed doll as a prop, for one thing. The clothes will help with pattern making and serve as a reference for problem solving. I think you’ll be glad you have them, and I see that your other readers agree.

I missed commenting yesterday but I definitely want to say I loved all the funny stories. Yes, Jeanne, please do it again. I have a couple to share but since I’ve returned from vacation my life has been crazy. I can’t seem to accomplish my planned “to-do” list because things keep getting in the way.

Before I left I mentioned that my new fiber-optic internet was not working. I kept the old internet active so I could pay bills and make motel reservations. When I got home I saw the new one had finally connected so that was one of the things on my list that was taken care of pretty quickly. But then I wanted to set up streaming on my TV because my current cable provider was going to streaming. I didn’t like the provider and it was a good chance to change so I headed in that direction. Fortunately my son Sean is well versed in the process – and I do mean fortunately – because we ran into one problem after another. To make a long story short it was necessary to buy a new TV. Being raised in the days when you didn’t replace a TV unless it totally died, this was hard for me to wrap my head around. The concept of a TV bought only a few years ago that still worked perfectly “expiring” was foreign to my way of thinking but the apps were no longer supported by my TV. So David and Sean went to Sam’s and bought a new one. Sean has great expertise at this also and the ultimate decision was a good one. Getting the price out of them was rather difficult. Let’s just say I feel less guilty about what I pay for some of my dolls now. Sean and Dionne took our old TV to put in their recreation room for playing games when the grandkids’ friends come over so thankfully I did not have to find a place to store it while awaiting the next recycling date for e-trash.

Jeanne, I love your new family member James. He is too cute and I love his clothes.

Joy, the Halloween picture of your family is great!

Karen, I have been to nearly every state in the Union but until we visited my sister in West Virginia I had not been in Kentucky. A very pretty state and a perfect time of year for visiting.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Karen, we lived in Kentucky too, for a year, when Michael was stationed at Fort Knox. I agree, it is a beautiful state, very similar to Missouri!

        1. Karen from Kentucky

That’s neat! There seems to be less dangerous snakes here in Kentucky where we live compared to where we were at in Missouri. Had to worry about cottonmouths and copperheads.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Very interesting about the tv as we are getting ready to change over to the new fiber optic, I think, fast cable. Thought our living room tv would be okay but the other two will not work with it. So, it may be that we will have to replace all of them. Ugh

      1. Linda in St. Louis

We changed over to ATT fiber optic this summer, but did not have to change our three televisions. Why do you have to do that?

  9. Oh, James is really adorable- with the wig change as either a boy or girl. I love his hat and outfit. It looks neat and made well. He looks so sweet in it!
It’s amazing what new wigs can do in changing the look.
I’ll have to check out the Christmas RRFF’s. I really like the one you have with the curly blonde hair – I forget her name. She was recent. Don’t know if there are more available.

I meant to tell you and all the sofa sisters, we have a new puppy. Our sweet, black toy poodle, Honey, died two years ago this November at the age of 15. This year we decided to get another black toy poodle. Her name is Gidget and she has a lot of energy!! She gets the zoomies many times through out the day. She’s sweet and lovable and very smart. It’s fun to watch her study things she’s seen or experienced for the first time. She’s now 4 months old. Terrible two’s kind of!! Ha ha.

    1. Karen from Kentucky

Congratulations on your new sweet poodle! She sounds like she has a fun personality! I think the very first dog that I got to walk as a little girl was a black tou poodle and I fell in love ;D

        1. Thank you Karen. Toy poodles are sweet little doggies. They often say toy poodles are sweet but demanding! Demanding in a funny way.

  10. James is beautiful! I wouldn’t have the heart to sell his clothes, though. I’d dress him up in them in between modeling jobs.
