Well, let me tell you, I had a great day in my sewing room today… unlike yesterday where I spent half the day picking out the stitches I had sewn. Today’s items were more “crafty” and you’ll see what I mean!
The first thing I made for sweet Violette, was a belt to wear with her orange blouse… I used black grosgrain ribbon but I didn’t have a buckle so I made one out of leather… but I see in my picture, as it’s enlarged, I need to trim the right side off just a little bit… It looks a bit wider to me…
Next up was a tie for her. I wanted it to be easy to put on, under her collar, so I used a piece of the heavy thread I use when I make my leather shoes, and ran it through the “tie” knot, and added a magnetic clasp in the back. It hits at just the right spot and you don’t notice the thread. Remember the other day when I making the tie for the “School Girl Charm” set for Violette… the black and white houndstooth check skirt set, and I was wanting a softer tie for her blouse, but didn’t have any silk ribbon in black, but only satin ribbon. Well, I was talking about regular grosgrain ribbon, saying it was too stiff for me, and I seldom used it. I went in a thrift store the other day and they had some vintage sewing items… and I found 3 spools of the “soft” kind of grosgrain ribbon I love to use. One was brown and 2 were black. I was thrilled! That’s what I used for the tie…
I decided to make a slip to go under the pleated skirt for Violette and then decided to add just a little decorative touch on the side of the skirt… using one of my vintage buttons.
Then this afternoon, I cut out a purse for Violette and got it finished. It’s all black leather with some silver rivets. She loves it the best! I loved making it… the black will go with lots of other things in your dolls wardrobe too! :o)
I have another item started and want to make 2 more things… Let me see if I can get them done quickly… then I’ll be finished with this set and will get it listed… yippee!
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a terrific set this is becoming! That belt sure adds a lot (I see what you mean by the buckle being a bit wider on one side), and so does the little “tie”. The skirt looks so much cuter with the petticoat underneath. And I really Love the purse!!
Barbara, I’ so sorry about your little dog. But better now than something happening to her while you’re on your trip, I guess. No matter what the situation is, it’s never an easy decision, and never easy to go thru. Hugs!
Ron has been having some tummy issues, so the doctor ordered x-rays of his abdomen. Good news: no blockage, no mass! They still want him to consult with a gastroenterologist, though; since his colon is 2′ shorter than most, they are being cautious, I guess.
What fun the winner of this auction will have! Days and days of switching out different parts of the set. What could be next?🥴 It is always fun to figure out.
Going to pick some of the last of the roses. They love this cooler weather and the last dose of Miracle Grow about a month ago has produced some BIG blooms.
Thank goodness for the watering system…we are 7” short on rain.🥴
It did it again…I enter my comment at the bottom of the list but it gets added to another comment. It has to be something I do😵💫🥴sorry
Kathy – I think maybe you are hitting the “Reply” button at the end of the last post, instead of just typing your comment in the box below “Share Your Thoughts!”.
I agree that Chelsy going to live with the angels will be a good thing. She definitely cannot travel anymore and knowing that determined the timing of our decision. It’s difficult seeing her decline as she is. On previous trips we made it so she could look out the car window and she totally enjoyed the trip. The last time we went her vision was already failing and all she did was lay on the back seat and sleep. This time the trip would be way too stressful for her since it would take her away from familiar things and cause her much confusion. She actually has trouble finding her way around here sometimes.
This is turning out to be a really cute fall wardrobe, Jeanne! Soon you will have a complete mix and match outfit without having to get each piece separately! This will be a lot of fun for the new owner to pick out what she wants to wear! Not only are you a wonderful seamstress, but you also have excellent marketing skills!
I love each new piece, especially that darling purse! The slip holds out those crisp, sharp pleats wonderfully, and the little added extra’s, belt, and tie make it fun to decide what will be worn!
Barbara,so sorry to hear that you have to put down your precious pet, but I have been there twice, and just know that it is for the best for all of you.
Thanks for your thoughts about Chelsy. This will be our second time. The last time I was off visiting my mother in Delaware and David took our Gwynne. He told me he would be doing that. I came home to a pet empty house but I was prepared and her things were gone. She is also buried in our pet cemetery but her “headstone” is in a flower garden in front of the house. This time I will be involved at least for sorting through Chelsy’s things. I think David and Jason are going to take her to the vet.
Jeanne, just caught up on the last several posts. I am currently in New Orleans with our three sons…no wives or husband. Really fun spending time with these grown men who are such great sports to be doing this trip that includes my birthday (which will be in Charleston).
Anyway, I think this outfit is very, very attractive and tempting. I must also say, Miss Violette looks best in her own wig. The other was cute, but this IS Violette.
Sorry the first round of jeans didn’t work, but I must say, I am not a fan of gnashing my teeth to pull up tight, tight pants on ANY doll. Love the corduroy.
Dear Barbara, I feel your pain. Last year we put our Chester down before leaving on a trip. This is always heart wrenching making the decision to put a dear pet to sleep. Sending a hug, and that picture sounds like a treasure of Chelsy looking out the window.
Thanks, Sally. I’ve been through several tissues just writing these comments. The hardest thing is the decision itself. Chelsy doesn’t know what we’ve planned and that seems so unfair. She’s left totally out of the decision. And the picture is a treasure because I so often saw her standing on that chair looking out the dining room window. Eventually we had to move the chair because she was destroying my screen trying to get at the birds.
Love how you made the tie with the magnetic closure. I usually sew them to a narrow ribbon that ties under the collar, because I hate sewing snaps so much, but this looks like a great way to finish it off. 🙂
How fun that Violette has so many little extras with this outfit.
October seems to be running away. Other person has already finished off one of the bags of candy we picked up a few weeks ago. Memo: Find a better hiding place for Halloween candy. 🙂
Dear Joy, I love your story about the candy. I am thinking that Other Person may be doing some covert operations of his own (laugh).
Dear Jeanne, what a lovely ensemble! The lucky dolly who receives this wardrobe be the envy of her sisters.
That skirt is one of your best. This outfit is so right for the RRFFs. I love the way the black fabric photographs. The whole outfit is coming together beautifully.
Fall is (barely) here. Yesterday I got to go to the mountains and see the aspen. It was a lovely day. Violette’s outfit would be perfect for Aspen viewing with a break for a Nepalese lunch. Too bad she doesn’t live closer.
What a wonderful outfit. I love the belted blouse over the black corduroy pants. Once again the purse is a perfect addition. I love the tie and the slip under the skirt works very well. I have bought two Jeanne Marie outfits that contained several pieces and have thoroughly enjoyed their versatility. I love the pleated skirt and since I’ve started using my Perfect Pleater some of my girls have and will soon have some lovely pleated skirts. So easy to make. I actually got two skirts out of one pleating because I was having so much fun doing the pleats I forgot to measure the doll. I’ve been trying to find some plaids that work for the smaller dolls, especially flannel plaids. I have several that will look great on my MA 18″ dolls but the smaller plaids seem to be few and far between.
Our home addition is coming along great. David is trying to get all the ducks in a row so that Sean and Jason can get some things done while we are gone. All the plumbing is done and the electrical is almost finished. The wall between the garage and the addition is on its way to completion. When all is done I will have a lovely laundry room. Unfortunately in the meantime my laundry space in the garage keeps getting smaller and smaller as they bring construction materials into the garage. Not to mention that my two new chairs for my sewing room and my new serger desk are in boxes out there awaiting assembly. I’ve come to the conclusion that will not be done until we return from our trip so my new serger is still in the big box in my kitchen along with all the stuff I took out of the breezeway closet. The coats are residing on the daybed in my study. Someday my house will once again return to some semblance of order. I’m not predicting a timeline. I don’t even want to think about Christmas decorating.
