DON’T FORGET:
The blue and green batik romper Frieda is modeling, called “Walking Sadie,” ends this evening on Ebay… If you have forgotten what it looks like or would like to bid on it, you can click on the picture at the right side bar, or click HERE.
I had a hard time trying to decide what kind of top to put under Rozen’s blue romper… I didn’t want to make another tee shirt and I didn’t want to make another peasant top, so I looked at LOTS of images on the internet… nothing really stood out to me, so I just decided to make a camp shirt, by reducing an American Girl pattern I had by 70%. I read somewhere the other day that a lady said it was a pretty close fit…
I got the pattern reduced, picked out an orangish fabric with a teeny tiny print in it and started. A camp shirt is one of those items you really can’t tell if it’s going to fit or not, until you get the sleeves in and the side seams sewn… well, by then it was too late and too big… I forgot to take a picture of it, but will tomorrow. So what’s a girl to do… I went to Pixie Faire and downloaded a Keepers Dolly Duds pattern that had a nice looking blouse for the Ruby Red girls… I changed my sleeves up a little bit and made it a bit longer, but it will work…
This was the pattern I picked. It also comes with some overalls…
The fabric is showing up just a bit brighter orange than it really is… it’s not bold or anything, but a nice goldish orange color with a tiny black dotted print.
You can see I’m not finished with it, but enough to show it… I added a 3/4 length sleeve with a cuff, since it’s “almost Fall!” :o)
It has a much nicer fit than the AG one I tried to size for her, especially around the neck.
I think if whoever wins this just tucks the tail of the blouse into their dolls panties, it will work fine. The blouse has curved side seams so it’s pretty fitted as it is…
I liked these 2 colors together…
Here’s the back…
Yes… Rozen was twirling around…
See you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne
How cute, Jeanne! I love the style of the blouse, the color and the pattern of the material! It works so well with the blue of the romper, and those orange buttons, which I had not even noticed before you put the blouse with it! They stand out now and match so well! No mistaking it is a girls outfit, and I’m sure Rozen feels perfectly lovely wearing it! Why, it could be a back-to-school outfit too! Just give her a book or two, a bright red apple and a flower for the new teacher to carry on the first day!
Of course, she is going to need shoes or clogs if she is going to school or anywhere! Maybe a cute pair of boots too! It depends, I guess, on what time of the year she is wearing this, and even a pair of flip flops in the warmer months would work fine.
Maybe a cute kerchief in the same material as the blouse, to tame her hair, would be a good idea! Can’t wait to see what you do with it next!
I hope the rain we received last night cools things off a bit here. We sure are in the “dog days” of summer now, but fall can’t be far away, since on my trip to Hobby Lobby yesterday, they had Halloween and Thanksgiving things out, ……….and Christmas trees! Good heavens!
When you said “orangish fabric”, I had to kind of wonder, I must confess, since I “like” orange about the same as I “like” brown or avocado green!! 😂 But this particular orange looks really good with Bella’s coloring, and is a nice contrast to the overalls. And it picks up the orange buttons (which I hadn’t noticed yesterday) really well, too.
Best of all is how nicely that blouse fits. I’m impressed. Guess I need to take another look at their patterns!
Oh, I forgot to mention, I saw today on the RRFF fanclub FB page that they are introducing a Siblies size of Gigi! I really would like to find a Siblies size of Ten Ping, but….
Anyway, they are doing preorders in a couple of days….gives me a little time to think about it!
The orange blouse is more of a burnt orange, a color I love at the end of summer because I know fall is on the way. I like this blouse with the denim jumper. Maybe Rozen is thinking about a new outfit for school which starts here on Monday!
Thanks to you Joy for telling me to file that claim for LD. I did have a conversation with an actual human. Now she needs some outfits from Jeanne.
Really loving the rompers you’re making. Reminds me of the “skorts” we used to wear but these are so chic. This blouse is really sweet with the rounded collar instead of the usual pointed camp shirt collar. The 3/4 sleeve with just a small poof is perfection, something a young girl would wear and raises camp shirt to the next level. I wonder if the sleeve length is just a smidge too long, please share your thoughts for your students/Jeanne wannabes. I’ve made body suits but feel the trouble isn’t always worth it to me, but I’ve been toying with the idea of maybe a snap on “crotch” strap, any thoughts on that? And if f only Rebecca were close by to whip up a trendy tiny seed bead stretch bracelet for Rozen! Love how your blog energizes ideas and allows us to join in, thank you for that. Please keep blogging!!
That Keepers pattern is cute, but I like Jeanne’s pattern style. I think I’d like to see the blouse closure a bit higher at the neck and the sleeves shorter, but that is just me. It’s a perfect little outfit for visiting the farm to pick apples or pumpkins for a fall display. Maybe Rozen is going to make an apple pie for a special friend? If she is wearing it to school which starts very soon here, maybe she wants a couple of ribbons in her hair and definitely some tennies for a game of soccer at recess. 🙂
I’m surprised that the 70% reduction didn’t work on the AG pattern, but you never know. I have lots of patterns that I’ve marked too big for RRFF, but then, I usually pin the paper together and try it on before cutting. I have a favorite blouse pattern that I enlarged from a 10″ to as large as 19″ and that works as well. Paper is cheap, but that printer ink is a killer. 🙂
Hi, Joy. If ink is an issue for you, and most everyone else, you need an Epson ET-3710 printer like mine. Since nearly every pattern is download only these days, I was going through ink 90 to nothing. My hubby bought me an Epson with the ink tanks. The ink last forever and the cost is amazingly low. My only complaint about my printer is it doesn’t have an auto feed so if you copy multiple pages you have to do it one by one, but I do that so rarely but I print out patterns a lot, I’m ok on that. They did come out with one with auto feed after I bought mine but see no reason to change at the moment. I went nearly a whole year last year without having to add ink. I actually print my patterns in color now so I can see things better on the instructions.
Hi Barbara,
I am in the market for a new printer at some point. My old HP All in One with Fax that I’ve used for work for the past 20+ years eats ink like crazy. I wonder if you can tell me if the Epson prints shiny copies? What I mean is does the ink look shiny (have a sheen) in the light instead of being a matte finish on regular paper? I like the shiny effect for certain paper craft projects I did in the past and want a printer that does that. Thank you.
My Epson is not a photo quality printer, so that may not be what you want, Laura. But if ink is an issue, it’s pretty amazing and the color is good.
I bought one of those too Barbara about 3 months ago. The ink hasn’t moved yet and as well as all the patterns I download I also do Block of the month for the guild and print those patterns off, usually 30 copies of up to 3 pages each in colour where necessary. I wouldn’t be without it.
We are going to look at an Epson for our next printer. Thanks for the great information. Is it easy to reduce and enlarge patterns right on the printer? I like to do that with the one we have now rather than through the computer and then to the printer.
Joy, I have done reductions on it. Once you figure out how to do it, it’s pretty easy. I’ve always had HP printers so the Epson way of doing things just takes some getting used to. I think the idea was to make things simple, but simple is in the mind of the beholder it seems.
I love this little romper and the shirt is perfect. I have the blouse pattern you used but haven’t made it. So many patterns, so little time.
Right now I’m still fighting with organizing 40+ years of pictures but I am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve nearly completed the box for Sean and I think he and his family will enjoy going through them. I always had duplicates made before photography went digital. I have one set, Sean has the other, Andrea has digitals of pictures I thought she’d like but I was in no way going to scan all the pictures. She doesn’t want “stuff” so if she wants to see them all she’ll have to pay me or her brother a visit.
I probably mentioned before that while our granddaughter Amanda, David’s oldest daughter’s child, was growing up we were denied being part of her life. Sadly this was pushed by Shana’s mother who passed away several years ago. Since Shana passed away in January Amanda and I have become much closer. She has our three great-grandchildren so I’m over the moon about this. I mentioned to her that I had some beautiful pictures of her mother when she was growing up and pictures of her parents’ wedding, they divorced when she was a baby, and would she like them. I was private messaging her on Facebook but I could tell she was in tears. Her mother had left her with no pictures whatsoever. None of her mother, father or even pictures of Amanda while she was growing up. I could help her greatly with those of her mom, some of her dad, but I couldn’t help much with pictures of Amanda as a child. I did have three her Aunt Marca once sent and somewhere I have a couple of her as an infant but that’s all. I’ve put together a nice little package for her and the children to enjoy. Since I did not want her to wait too long for the pictures, I made it a priority to finish a task I have been working on for a couple months now. With that and the building that is going on around here and the guys often needing my opinion, as welling as ordering windows, etc., I’ve been derelict in my attention to the blog. I will try to do better.
Anne mentioned she wished she had been on the blog when she was in Houston and we could have met. That would have been great. Maybe the opportunity will present itself again.
The camp shirt is really sweet and I like that color of orange. I, too, would call it burnt orange and it is perfect for the “Burnt orange season” which is what the Victorian called autumn/fall
This whole outfit is perfect for Rozen to complement her coloring.
I hope you’re feeling better, Lauren. I missed that post and was reading it. I had ear infections all the time in the fall and winter as a child as soon as the weather got cold. Ended up having ear tubes twice. I even got infections as late as my 30’s, I empathize, they are NO fun.
I echo Laura’s hope that you are feeling better. I’ve rarely had an ear infection but you only need to have one to know they’re awful. One evening years ago I was sitting at the dinner table and all of a sudden everything was muffled. I told David he was going to have to put the kids to bed, I was heading for the clinic. Both my ears were infected. It was weird though because that one never hurt and I didn’t have a clue I had a problem. The doctor said my inner ears were both inflamed. The worst part of that one was the popping and crackling while my ears were returning to their former self. I only had one other and that one was very painful. It was caused by a fungus I picked up swimming at Galveston.
When my son was an infant he had constant ear infections for awhile. The doctor wanted to try one more thing before he had tubes put in. He said too many children were having the tubes fall out and it created a false sense of security so the parents weren’t realizing there was a problem until it got really serious. He switched to a broad spectrum more powerful antibiotic and that licked the problem. He never had another ear infection while he was a child.
I think this looks mighty dandy. I would vote for socks and boots myself, and someone’s suggestion of headscarf, and a shoulder school bag. Love Eve’s designs. Those sleeves and neckline are just perfect for fall. 😆
Barbara, heartwarming story of your reconnection with Amanda. Seems like a lot of great things happening with your family and home. 👏
Debbie, hope that LD shows up. She must be feeling pretty lonesome and blue. 😢
Charlotte. How is that apron coming? ☺️
Anne, sorry we didn’t get to see pictures of those quilts, but I’m with you…price to sell. Money in the pocket is better than keeping inventory hanging around. 🙌
Good luck on tonight’s auction, Jeanne. I really love this set. And Sadie. 👍
I love the orange and blue together. I’m a bit like Charlotte I’m not much of an orange or brown fan but this really works and looks lovely.
The sleepouts for the kids are up, no doors or windows yet they are coming today to put them in. They are very big and have made the garden quite a lot smaller but they are relocatable so if ever the kids move out they can be sold on. We still haven’t got any power I’m not sure how long that will be and they can’t put the lining in until the wiring has been done. At least it is progress.
I will send the photos to Jeanne today if I can.
Dear Jeanne, what pretty colors. Orange and blue were my Junior High School colors.
How did we get to August? I want May back!
