That’s how it happened… sometimes it’s best to make something again when it’s fresh in your mind, if you’ve just created or drafted a new pattern. If too much time goes by, you end up forgetting that you shaved off this side or you had to add a little more to that seam…All I wanted to do was make a few changes on the red leather shoes I had created for Ten Ping earlier. (the ones I didn’t like the heel part)
So I found a piece of green leather and tried out my new “tweaked” pattern. I fit them on Ten Ping’s foot this time to make sure they would fit. They did and things were going splendidly, so I grabbed a scrap from some face masks I had made and used that for the bottom of the soles because it matched the green really well. Then the shoes were so cute, I added some buttons and then thought… well, now what am I going to do with these shoes? I have nothing to go with them…
So I decided to make a pair of shorts…
I wanted them to have pockets because it’s always cute when dolls have their hands in them in pictures…
The fabric is a very fine batik I’ve had for years and it made up into the shorts so well. I top stitched the pockets and added tiny buttons to them…
Well, then I looked at the shorts and thought I might as well make a top, so I fringed a long strip of fabric and wanted to use it for a ruffle to hide the white stretch waistband on the shorts. I just made my regular bodice for most of my Ten Ping dresses and lined it with tulle to make it super lightweight and not bulky at all.
I added 3 tiny buttons to the waist and finished with snaps in the back…
Ten Ping said, “Well, now let’s get some pictures taken… so we did!
She turned this way and that way so you could see all the sides to this new set…
Sometimes a girl’s just gotta have fun…
I’m not talking about Ten Ping… I’m talking about ME! :o)
I enjoyed my day just playing… and Ten Ping was thrilled!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a darling little outfit (and shoes) for Ten Ping! Just as cute as can be. Is this going to be the start of an ensemble of mix and match pieces? (Gigi is just wondering….that girl!! 😂)
HI Charlotte,
It’s just a few pieces this time… I think I just finished it, but who knows? :o)
I’m glad you (and Gigi) like it!
Blessings, Jeanne
Really cute, Jeanne, and perfect for a modern little doll! I can see her going out to the local playground with her friends! Those shoes are just darling!
I see a cute little sun hat in the future too!!
Hi Linda,
I almost wish I had a little jungle gym set for her to play on… that would make some cute pictures. Yes, modern… it’s a change for me, but one I enjoyed!
Yep, you got the hat right!
Thanks so much…
Blessings, Jeanne
Really a cute play set! I would like to see the pocket buttons near the front corner so when looking straight on you could see them under the tops buttons. I can almost see Sunglasses and a big floppy beach hat! Love those shoes.
Hi Dorothy,
I used to have a pair of little sunglasses… I might have to search for them.
The buttons are easier to see in real life… for some reason it’s a 3-D kind of thing… it’s like my camera won’t pick up on things that are on the side, but in real life you can see them just fine.
I’m glad you like it too!

Love the fit of the shorts and the pocket design. Works so well for Ten. If the shorts had a regular waistband, I would like to have seen a crop top with the set, but can understand the longer length to cover the elastic. I think that she is all set to help George pick up eggs from the hens with her own tiny little basket. So cute.
Here it is June, so on with summer. 🙂
Forgot to mention that the latest shoes for Ten look they fit much better. The vamp across the top of the foot no longer has a gap. They look great. 🙂
Thank you Joy,
I was debating about a crop top with a little bit of tummy showing, but decided to make it have the ruffle. I can do a crop top the next time. So far she has a teddy bear, but I might find a little basket for eggs… :o)
Glad you like the shoes… I guess persistence paid off…
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, I am so glad that you had fun. You definitely deserve some play time. I think that Ten Ping had fun also.
Thank you Dorothy,
I did have fun… and I know Ten Ping did… wow… 2 modeling sessions in a row. Well, maybe 2 “play” sessions in a row. I think she is such an adorable little doll.
I’m so glad to have her in my collection.
Thanks again,
Blessings, Jeanne
What an adorable little outfit. Love, love, love the shoes. It’s always fun when you start something and have no idea where you’re going with it. I haven’t done that in years. I used to do it a lot when I sewed for my kids. My mother was here one year at Easter and watched me make Andrea’s Easter dress. She commented on how the dress she saw in the morning was not the dress she saw in the evening. She asked how I knew when I was finished. I told her when I ran out of time. And I have been known to be sewing well into the night on Easter Eve.
I see a cute little sunhat for Ten Ping too. Those always look so cute on dolls. And maybe a beach bag for her towel and sunscreen. She is probably wearing her bathing suit under her short set.
Hi Barbara,
I like it when things just progress like this too.. one thing leading to another and then another. Almost my favorite way to sew.
I’ve had ladies compliment me on having “just enough” on my dresses and wanted to know how I knew when to stop? I guess I just know… because sometimes I stop and there are only 4 pieces and other times there are 10 or 12 pieces!
I have been know to stay up ALL night on Easter Eve… It was actually quite common at our house… Cindy and Deb can attest to that… they can easily recall the hours of the morning when we got so giddy we had to be hushed or we’d wake up everyone else.
Well, no bathing suit under there, but you got the sun hat right.
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
