Ginny dolls can wear Ten Ping’s latest outfit… *** See pictures in my post ***

Hi everyone,

PLEASE NOTE:
Ten Ping’s set on Ebay is ending this evening… You can see it by clicking the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE.

I had every intention of getting more done today, but I got a call from our friend (the one I made the apple for…) and he is getting ready to go back to India, but he discovered his suitcase was coming unstitched. DV politely asked on the phone, “Ms Jeanne, could you possibly look at my suitcase and see if you could fix it?” Well, what’s a girl to do? He came over, I looked at it, decided with some of my waxed thread I use for my leather shoes, I could at least give it a try… It was coming apart at the seam, by the zipper, so I had to stitch around the piping, and although it wasn’t very pretty, it worked and was strong as ever… It actually wasn’t that bad looking, but I told him, it wasn’t my finest stitching job. He was grateful. My hubby told him, at least I probably saved him from his underwear spilling out in the airport! EEP!

I was right in the middle of making dinner when my hubby asked him if he wanted to stay for dinner… he did, so we visited with him for 2 more hours… it will be our last time seeing him as we can’t go to his going away party this weekend… We had a nice time and a few tears too.

So it was 9:45 before I ever made it to my sewing room… and I was determined to show you something was going on in here… I remembered Barbara asking if the outfit for Ten Ping would fit the 8″ Ginny dolls… I didn’t know, so I got the one I am planning to sell, out of her box and let her try it on… the hat fit, the top fit, the shorts fit, and the shoes were a little big, but with socks they stayed on. Ten Ping’s feet are a little longer than Ginny’s, so a pair of socks could be worn with the shoes, or you could stuff a tiny piece of tissue in the toes of the shoes… You can see how it fits her in the pictures.

*****
Well, I did a checking on the Ginny dolls on Ebay and found one JUST LIKE the one I have and thought I’d share it here… so you can see on the box what I’m talking about…

Vogue Ginny Doll on Ebay

*****

Also, since Joy mentioned the differences in sizes, I laid a ruler over the Ginny I have and this is what it looks like… to me, she’s about 7″, but maybe they just call her 8″

Let’s see what was another question? Oh, Joy asked about the lady from Etsy who didn’t get her doll slip… actually, the problem was because I was locked out of my shop, I couldn’t get her address to ship her the slip… but when she finally got upset and sent me an email about not getting the slip, I explained to her it was because I couldn’t get in my shop to see who bought it… once she sent me an email, I could respond to her and send her the slip… that happened a second time too, but the lady actually sent a note saying she was excited to get the doll slip, and I could respond to her immediately and ask for her address…

Boy, am I glad that’s over… what a nightmare it was.

Joy, you also asked about the Siblies dolls and some flip flops… if I had a better idea of the size of their feet, I could probably do them… maybe you could hold the bottom of the foot of a Siblie on the bottom of a RRFF doll and I could see what the difference was? Possibly?

I can’t remember anything else right now, but wanted to show you something I started… It’s not much, so don’t get excited… but I do have plans for this…

I won’t tell you who it’s for just yet… till I decide if it works… I think this is the way it’s going to look… (Imaginations required for this one!)

Well, I better get to bed… my hubby has a haircut “scheduled” for Reuben tomorrow morning and I’m the “face trimmer!” He does the body and most of the legs… and I do the feet… Teamwork! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, you certainly saved the day for DV; otherwise he might have had to buy a new suitcase! The bonus was, you got to spend a little more time with him, and get a good visit in, and that in itself was worth the time!

That little shorts outfit looks darling on Ginny! I was going to offer to get one of my Ginny dolls out and check her measurements, but you answered the question handily. In the future, you might add “also fits 8″ Ginny dolls” or something like that to your Ten Ping outfits. (Maybe even have Ginny model them sometimes–maybe you need to keep her for a while!)

Well, now, in our house, putting those particular fabrics/colors together would usually mean something for Molly. She is and has always been my “red girl”. (When I first got her–and she was my first AG doll, so this would have been over 20 years ago–I made her a lavender dress for Easter. She put it on…Once…and then reminded me that lavender was My favorite color, not hers, and she would like something in red please!! Eventually I gave the dress to a friend, and, after she died, I got it back; it now belongs to April Eleanore, who definitely Does like lavender!)

I do love those buttons with that red fabric–the dots on the buttons pick up the “feel” of the red print! I think I would be inclined to use only the white-on-red buttons, though. They show up better on the white.

    1. Thanks Charlotte,
It was a relatively easy fix… I was imagining putting his suitcase up on my sewing table and trying to fix it, but this was done by hand whipping around the piping and catching the seam where the zipper was sewn… Glad I could help…

I went to Ebay and just updated my post to show a picture of her and the link to her, so everyone can see just what I was talking about… then I put a ruler ontop of the plastic cover showing the size of her… she’s a 1984 doll… 38 years old…

I was thinking the same thing on those buttons when I saw them in my picture.
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I second this as an outfit for Molly, alhtough I’m not sure of how big the bodice is, which would tell for sure. Molly is my first thought for a red, white and blue outfit! No idea who, if for a RRFF or an LD doll.

The three different materials would make a pretty ruffled skirt, or perhaps a top with a ruffle and shorts, capris? I know you like to make dresses, so I am banking on that!

That was so nice of you to fix your friend’s suitcase, and I am sure you would have done nothing less! You are probably the only person in Carbondale who could do such a thing on such a short period of time, plus you are a wonderful friend to so many! Your friend will have such wonderful memories of his time in Carbondale!

    1. Hi Linda,
Well, you’ll just have to wait and see who this Red, White and Blue ??? will fit… :o)
Suitcase repair… yep, I can do it! There’s a first time for everything I do… but I have fixed some of ours… but they were soft sided where the lining pulled away from the fabric on the top zippered area.

We do have wonderful memories together…and he said he WILL come back to see us sometime…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Dear Jeanne, now you can add luggage enhancement and repair to your sewing repertoire (smile).

I think the doll you are showing is a mini Ginny. She is 6 inches tall. Ginny is 8 inches tall, the same size as Madame Alexander’s Wendy. I don’t collect Ginny dolls so if a Sofa Sister does, she might want to weigh in.

I am excited about the red white and blue fabric. I wonder which doll will be lucky enough to have an outfit made next.

    1. HI Dorothy,
I think I’ll keep my “suitcase repair” a secret… I told DV, if his suitcase rips open in the airport, don’t cry out, “OH JEANNE!!!”

I just revised my post to show a link to the exact doll I have and I also laid a ruler on her through the plastic… she looks 7″ to me… but the box calls her 8″…

Tomorrow I hope to have something done on the RWB outfit… you’ll have to wait…
      :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

      Hi Dorothy,
I just noticed and so sorry it somehow posted Hi joy to you as well as Joy. Anyway, I’m so glad you had a great time at your dolly tea. We had a lovely tea room here until about 15 years ago. A friend now lives in that house where it was.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Laura, no worries. I knew that you meant me.

I would like to live in a tearoom house. I bet there is a good feeling about being there.

So many of the tearooms around here have long since closed. That is why we are holding on to this one so tightly. She get booked immediately when she posts her dates.

Some of us tried to talk her in to letting us have a sleepover in the tearoom as we had one tea scheduled on Saturday and were going to be returning on Sunday for the next tea. She said we could stay but she would put us to work. She had a whole list of things we would have to do to help her prepare for tea the next day (laugh).

We declined and said we would see her on Sunday. It’s one thing to take tea; it’s another thing to prepare for it. We decided we were the tea taking type of folks (smile).

Jeanne gets the best fix anything award for southern Illinois! A suitcase? Glad you were able to make the repairs. 🙂
Interesting about Ginny and TP. The Ginny you have appears to be a repo and not the original of the late 40’s/50’s. I understand that they are slightly different in size from the originals, so the outfit might not fit all. As to your Ginny being a mini Ginny, I don’t think so. I have a mini and she is not like your girl, but smaller. I guess I can pull out a few dolls and try to get a pic to show the difference in sizes. If I had the dolls given to grand, it would be easy to show the repo dolls, like Jeanne’s, that we had for our daughters and the originals, but they are visiting out of town. 🙂 I will get a pic of a mini Ginny though and also see what I can do to measure one of the Siblies feet and get a picture of one barefoot with a RRFF doll. 🙂
Will Rebecca/Karn be Reuben sitting and feeding the chickens? That will be nice to have some help if so. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
I added a link to an Ebay auction showing the exact Ginny doll I have…and also a picture of a ruler laid on her box… She looks 7″ to me, but they are calling her an 8″ doll. She’s a VOGUE doll and her date is 1984… she’s 38 years old.

I think most people could figure out what size doll they have by looking at my picture… but thanks for bringing it to my attention… I don’t want to have someone buy this set for their Ginny doll and it not fit…

Yes, Karn and Rebecca are coming to take care of the critters… and housesit…
      I can’t wait to see them…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Boy I really started something with the Ginny question. Thanks so much Jeanne for going to so much effort to answer my question and to others who chimed in – and to post Ginny wearing the outfit for your auction. I have both a Vintage Ginny and a Modern Ginny. My Vintage Ginny (an original 1950s doll like I had as a child) is about 7 3/4″ and my modern is more like a full 8″, but my modern Ginny is more slender than my vintage and they cannot wear the same clothes. I’m not fond of my modern Ginny. She is made out of some kind of soft plastic and dressing her is difficult because the clothes don’t slide on. I bought her because I bought some clothes for my vintage Ginny that were for modern Ginny not knowing there was a difference. The clothes are cute so I wanted a doll that could wear them so I bought modern Ginny. My 8″ Shirley Temple and Vintage Ginny can wear the same clothes depending on the style because Shirley is a tad bit bigger around the waist. I’ve bought Ten Ping patterns for my vintage Ginny but have not made any of them yet so can’t weigh in on that.

How brave you were to attempt to mend a suitcase. Not to mention what a good friend you are. I’ve never tried mending a suitcase but I have mended a tent. It worked but I have no intention of ever going into the tent mending business. It definitely was a labor of love. You mentioned underwear coming out of a suitcase in the airport. Well that did happen to me. I was going to visit my mother in Wilmington, DE. My sister picked me up at the Philadelphia airport. When I took my suitcase off the carousel it popped open and there I was with all my undies strewn all over. Not only was I embarrassed but my unmentionables were in other people’s way. I was scrambling to shove them back into the suitcase and I looked up at my sister hoping to get some help from her but she was laughing so hard she was absolutely no help at all.

Can’t wait to see who the RWB outfit is for and what it will ultimately look like. I love the fabrics. What a great combination. I have those buttons and love them.

I will definitely be praying for a successful surgery and quick recovery for George. I’ve been through two of these with David and do not want to think what it must be like having to deal with two more than I did. Hopefully this time things will work out perfectly.

Sweet little Ginny doll. I remember those from the 1980’s I think Woolworth’s carried them.
The red, white, and blue outfit looks very cute. I have a feeling we will be seeing a little Darling in that.

  7. I hope your friend has a good trip home and many more uses from his “ Jeanne Repair”😉 you know he will remember you each time he grabs that bag.
Ten Pings outfit is darling on Ginny. Dual use is always a good thing. I didn’t get to comment yesterday but the Flip Flops are beyond cute! So many in so many variations make a striking photo too!
Be sure and ask the Medical team what they are doing to prevent a blood clot after surgery. It is not uncommon with knee surgery and not to scare you but a friends BIL just had that happen with bad results.😳 … the second person we have known.
I’m sure your bag of things to do while waiting for surgery to be over is full of fun projects. This is when internet friends can only do so much… you know we would be there with a casserole and soup if we were closer. George will be on the prayer list for sure…and you too😍
