Hi everyone,
I have a few things to share today but most of all, I want to thank those who have secured the freedoms we have in this country. It takes a special person to say they will do whatever it takes to keep us safe and I appreciate them very much!
My weekend was very busy, (don’t I keep saying that?) but I still managed to get some things done…
We have a special friend who has been here 15 years I think… his name is DV and he’s from India. When he first came to the United States, he told me his favorite food was apple pie. He’s the one you’ve seen me make pies for in the past. Yesterday was his birthday and I made him his last pie, He’s going to go back home to help his mom… It was sad for me (and he said for him too) that this would be his last pie. I decorated it with tiny stars. I was looking for a cookie cutter and remembered I had this tiny little cookie cutter in my button stash… I have a tiny gingerbread man, a Christmas tree and this star. It’s only about 3/4″ long… so it was a bit tedious. Here’s my last pie for DV…
I got this wonderful text from him…
…and a picture of the pie in the box…
Next up are a couple of pictures from a friend at my church…Joy! She’s a “local” subscriber to my blog and we often chat about dolls and fabrics and what we’ve been working on. She just finished a doll outfit for her neighbor and gave her the doll AND the outfit. At first I thought she made it for a child next door, but it’s actually for the woman who lives there… I might have to let Joy tell the rest of the story of why she picked this for her. I think the doll reminded her of someone in her past. (help Joy, I have forgotten the details…)
Anyone remember me talking about a Sock Monkey contest a few months ago? I was determined to get a picture taken for this contest and last night I managed to get 2 simple little dresses made for my Twinkle Bailey (6″) and my Dumpling Bailey (11″). The fabric LOOKS like it’s knitted like the socks, but it’s actually a cotton fabric. I had almost a fat quarter (18″ x 22″) and so I was able to make these dresses. There are no snaps on the backs… (safety pins) and the hems are just serged, but I was thinking last night was the deadline… but I think the deadline is tomorrow. Anyway, I had these 2 fifty year old sock monkeys I made in Home Ec back in 1972 and wanted to use them in my picture. This is what I came up with…
If you want to go to the My Meadow Fan Club site My Meadow Fan Club and see the pictures, use that link… My picture is toward the bottom, as I was a last minute procrastinator! I also accept LIKES too! :o)
I think I saw a picture for Joy too… It’s Mae with dark hair in a red cape holding the hand of a sock monkey on her deck. She’d like some LIKES too! :o)
There is also a picture of a “parade” from Sissy, another subscriber here… there are lots of flags waving in her picture. It’s down at the bottom by mine, so you can give her picture somes LIKES too!
Last up are a few pictures of Ten Ping in her new head scarf… I stitched a magnetic clasp on each end of the scarf and it worked out perfectly… Just put the ends behind your dolls head and the ends find each other… I’ll definitely be using this again for things behind the dolls head…
I took enough new pictures to hopefully have enough to list it on Ebay…
As far as the Regency dress not selling (boo hoo!), I think I’ll relist it when I do Ten Ping’s set…
Thanks everyone,
Have a nice Monday!
Blessings, Jeanne
The pie you made for DV looks delicious, Jeanne! Nice idea, to use a little star cutter for the cutouts! I know you’ll miss him. It sounds like going back to India will be a permanent move for him, then?
Your church friend Joy’s doll and outfit are lovely. I hope she’ll chime in with the story behind it!
There were certainly a lot of sock monkey pictures! Some were really nicely posed, and/or had cute stories behind them. Of course, I found myself partial to one particular photo….
What a neat idea, for fastening that scarf on Ten Ping’s head! So easy and convenient!!
Jeanne, that pie looks beautiful, almost too beautiful, to be real! I’m sure it must taste as good as it looks! What a darling way to give it a Memorial Day vibe with those little stars! If you feel sad about not making them again for your friend, DV, you can always box one up and send it to me!! 😉
What a cute little outfit your friend, Joy made for her neighbor! She looks to be going on a cruise to Australia or somewhere exotic! Love the little bag!
I love your sock monkey picture, but I cannot get onto the website. It says it is not available, right now, but it looks like Charlotte found it. Maybe you have to belong to it to see the pictures?
Another hot and sunny day here, so I want to get going early and trim back that azalea bush before it takes over the entire space it is in. That’s not hard to do when the flowers are finished and looking so sad!
Happy Memorial Day to everyone!
We had taken flowers to the cemetery a couple of days ago so, yesterday, we swung by and saw that the local scouts had put out small flags on all the graves of veterans. It looked great seeing that flag on my dad’s site.
Love the sock monkey photo. A winner for sure. Yesterday, I was able to move a friend’s photo to the right location on the site so that hers would be included. It is kind of hard to navigate.
There are some really amazing photos and creativity there and so fun to view.
My RRFF girl Lisa, has landed in CA, and should be arriving up here from LA later this week. She is very sweet. 🙂
Tell George that we finally have the raised beds ready to plant, just when the heat index will be high again. Now, I need to get some seeds into the ground and cover them with secure netting to keep out the resident cat who actually lives next door and the crows that come calling every morning. 🙂
Have a wonderful Memorial Day.
My “other person” Remembered to put the flag out today. It is a day to remember our brave soldiers. We have so many nieces and nephews and their kids in the Military. So proud of them!
The Sock Monkey picture is a hoot. That fabric will draw some LIKES.for sure!
Now I’m dying for pie…saw a recipe on Pinterest for a Rhubarb impossible pie with a crumb crust. It is either going to be good or 🤮 but I want to try it. Your pie is amazing…it should be on a cookbook cover! Making one with that perfect crust only comes with time and talent. I’m sure he will remember your thoughtfulness and apple pie when he is home.😉🥧
Rhubarb pie. My favorite!!! Problem is It’s rare you find Rhubarb around here. My dad was the pie baker in our family. He could have started a pie shop. In PA most pies tended to be on the tart side. When I moved to Texas and tasted pecan pie for the first time, I couldn’t finish it. Way too sweet! But Sean does make a very good pecan pie and I’ve gotten used to the sweetness and I sure wouldn’t want to disappoint him by not eating any. Right?
How wonderful to have such a friend as DV and to be such a friend as yourself. The pie looks yummy. So sorry it is his last one. Maybe he can visit again someday. Love the little stars. Tedious is probably an understatement.
I didn’t check in Saturday so I just read the blog for that day. I agree that the hat looks fine as it is. Remembering what some of my sister’s Easter hats looked like after awhile, it seems appropriate. My one sister was constantly sitting on her hats and my other sister once lost her hat on a windy day. It went rolling down the street and was barely missed by a passing car. My mother was holding her breath while hanging on to my sister so she couldn’t run after it. We rescued the hat and went on to church.
Someone mentioned thinking the stars were limiting as to when the hat could be worn. When I made my LD Greer Adele’s Easter hat I stitched the bow on to the hatband and seamed the hatband but did not stitch the hatband onto the hat. Now she can wear the hat with other outfits and I only have to add the band and embellishments not make a whole new hat. Maybe you can make another hatband with flowers. But you may have already stitched the stars to the hat. I’m fine with the patriotic theme but just thought the bidders might like an option.
I will definitely be checking out the Sock Monkey site. Thanks for the link. Your picture is absolutely precious and I can’t wait to see the others. Will definitely be doing a lot of “likeing”.
Yesterday we had a fun event at church. It was a fifth Sunday so our priest and vestry decided that from now on when there is a fifth Sunday we would combine the 8:00 and 10:30 services into one at 9:30 and then have a potluck lunch after. Considering that the 8:00 service is without music and the 10:30 is a lot about the music, I’m sure most of the early service people felt like they were in a different church. We usually get home Sunday at around 2:30 p.m. Yesterday it was about 12:30. I wasn’t sure what to do with all the extra time on a Sunday. So I took a nap. Probably happened because I had to get up earlier.
Sean and his gang and Jason will be coming about 2 p.m. this afternoon. Dionne is going to make her wonderful Beef Stroganoff. They keep talking about how good it is and since they’ll be here I thought we would go that route for supper. While she is cooking I will be taking Skyy and Jaiden to the pool. I usually don’t take them till 3 p.m. and then we stay for about two hours so it works out perfectly.
Happy Memorial Day to all my Sofa Sisters! My one stepdaughter turns 50 today. She was seven when we got married. Where does the time go…..
Bell bottom story. My neighbor saw my doll. She was startled to be reminded of a the friend who used to visit and spend several weeks with Reverend and Mrs Buck and their large family each summer when both girls were young. That got me thinking about what might they have been wearing in the late 60s, early 70s. Bell bottom slacks were popular i thought. My mother left such a tremendous fabric ‘stash’! I found light blue denim with silvery sparkles, an old handkerchief, even the little tank top was made
from some light weight white knit. I didn’t know if my neighbor would want a doll in her home, but she happily walked home with the doll and the little book “Why God Made Friends” (another item my mother left here). Doll clothes, I’m finding, don’t make much of a dent in a fabric stash😊
Dear Joy, what a wonderful gesture. You may not know this but you just celebrated World Doll Day!
On the second Saturday in June, this year on June 11, members of the doll community give a doll or doll related item to someone. This occasion was created by doll enthusiast and author Mildred Seeley.
Joy, I love your bell bottom outfit. Sounds like your neighbor is very happy with her new dolly friend. I second the fact that sewing for dolls does not make a dent in ones fabric stash. It’s not even making a dent in my fat quarter stash.
Dear Jeanne, how lovely that you made a pie for your friend. You are an ambassador of goodwill for the country in that you forge friendships with visitors from other places. I think there should be a national holiday in which we celebrate connecting with our “sisters” and “brothers” in other countries.
