I finished a shadowbox Rebecca gave me for Christmas…

Actually, I’ve had this shadowbox since Thanksgiving! EEK! It’s taken me quite a while to find time to fill it and even longer to decide what I wanted to put in it… B…U…T… you should have known it would be something “sewing related.” Rebecca gave me the shadowbox and said it had a cushioned inside so the pins would stick into it, making it easily changeable. It took me so long to come up with this, I don’t think I’ll be changing it anytime soon.

I started with a dark blue piece of scrapbook paper and then put the lace collar that Kathie sent me a while back. I love that collar and it makes the prettiest backdrop for the rest of my “goodies.” Here’s what it looks like with the clear front opened…

In the top left corner is a sweet pattern front card I received from a reader named Jill. I just love it and thought it would be fun in here. It was actually the first thing I used after putting down the lace!

The tiny magnet on the bottom right corner of the pattern card is of a tape measure… it came from another reader of mine named Anne.

The tiny little white shoes are some I made from a teeny tiny kit I got from Ukraine back in August. It came in pieces and I had to stitch them together. If they look small to you, they are… they are about 1″ long and so tiny they don’t even fit Navi or Twinkle Bailey!

The little mohair bear was in a group of 12 I bought several years ago. I’ve used quite a few of them, but she was sweet enough to make it in the shadowbox.

Several years ago, I bought some Christmas blocks at Hobby Lobby and still had the unopened packages… I decided to spell out “DOLLS” holding them in line with some washi tape on the bottom and pins between.

The needles card called “Sewing Susan” was given to me by a very dear friend named Norma. She actually gave me her whole supply of sewing notions! It was in a sewing box about 12 x 9 inches. She laughed when she gave it to me, saying, it surely must be peanuts compared to what I must have! It was, but I sure did enjoy looking though it all. I had to include her needles and threader in the shadowbox. The tiny round doilies were from Norma’s sewing box too.

The little doll dress is from Boneka dolls and came on one of my dolls I bought. It’s so sweet and delicate, I had to use it.

The gold purse on the chain was one my mom had years and years ago. I still remember the day she bought it. We were out shopping and she found it at a store named Kay’s. I’ve always loved it.

I think Cindy sent me the cards of the dolls dressed in the period dresses. There were 4 cards with the dress pictures on the front AND the backs. I thought they were awfully sweet.

I picked out the 3 Vintage buttons from the card I bought at Polly’s Antiques store when they had an auction. I figured those buttons were too big to use on a doll dress and looked nice in the shadow box.

Here is it with the front closed. I’m going to hang it on the wall beside my cutting table where I will think of Rebecca, and all my friends who have shared things with me over the years. Thanks everyone!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

What a treasure trove of memories you have with that precious shadow box, Jeanne! I love that it is three dimensional and holds things that remind you of who you are!

What a darling little Boneka doll dress, tiny shoes, and that beautiful lace collar are! That tiny gold purse is the sweetest thing! It certainly was wonderful to hear the little “stories” of what came from where. I’m sure putting it together was a labor of love, and made you feel very special!

    1. Thanks Linda,
I had a lot of fun putting things in the shadowbox…I still haven’t gotten it hung yet, but hope to tomorrow.
It”s so much fun having Rebecca and Karn here. I knew I was missing Rebecca, but didn’t realize how much!!
Thanks for your pictures Linda…I’ll be using them.
      Blessings. Jeanne

I loved reading about all the goodies in your shadowbox. Each one has a special meaning to you! I especially love the tiny purse and the little doll shoes. Adding the Boneka dress just kind of tied things together! I would definitely keep it as is–for a long, long time!!

Hope you are having a good time with Rebecca and Karn! Enjoy this special time with them!!

    1. Thanks Charlotte,
I think I’ll keep it this way too… I like how it turned out…
Oh yes. We are having a great visit…

That is so nice you put so much love into your shadowbox from Rebecca. It is lovely. 🙂

  4. What a lovely gift from Rebecca! And the perfect way to present some lovely gifts from others, as well as some things of your own. The little purse that had been your mother’s is really special. It’s nice that you remember when she bought it.
Yesterday, enJOYed seeing Joy’s new girl, Josephine. She has a whole new facial look different from the other RRFF dolls. Perhaps the doll artists are expanding their ideas with their popular dolls. Glad she arrived secretly and now she will have lots of friends.

    1. Thank you Paula,
I am glad I got the shadowbox finished before Rebecca got here. She liked how I had done it.

We are having lots of good times and tomorrow we have more planned.

I was busy doing some alterations for her this evening…
      Thanks Paula

Dear Jeanne, what a wonderful gift and what a wonderful art piece you created from it. I recognized the Boneka dress right away.

I am glad you are hanging it in your sewing room to remind you of your daughter and to be a tribute to the amazing outfits you create for our doll children.

    1. Thank you Dorothy,
What sweet comments you left…thank you so much!! :o)

What a great idea for a gift. That Rebecca is always thinking. I love how you have added all of the meaningful goodies. Your artistic flair really shines here as always. Those little shoes are something else and placed close to the sweet dress helps to tell the tale. It is perfect!

Hi Joy.. your new doll is a cutie. I think she’d make a handsome boy should you ever want a different look for her. I’m happy she made it home undetected!

    2. Thanks Joy
I’m glad I decided to use sewing things in my shadowbox. I love looking at it…just need to get it on the wall.
      Thanks Joy,

    Hi Jeanne,
What a fun project! You did a great job and I love it. Your project reminds me I have a never completed shadow box project.. I really need to dig it out! Years ago hubby and I were in Intercourse Pennsylvania and visited The Country Store Quilt Shop. What a cool store you’d love it! On the second floor was a quilt museum. Lots of fun things to see. I’d been working on some mini quilts and they had a mini displayed in a shadow box type frame. I loved the idea so much, I couldn’t wait to find a similar frame. I bought a shadow box but yep never finished … LOL story of my life.. tons of unfinished business. Anyway I regress… I loved your photos of the places you visited while having some sister time. So much to look at I can see why you all wanted a second look at the last place. Enjoy your time visiting with Rebecca and Karn! So wonderful they are visiting.
    Have fun!
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. Hi Ingrid,
We HAVE been to Intercourse PA…when we went to see Cindy and Tom a long time ago. We probably went to the General Store and I probably saw the quilts, but I can’t remember them…I remember the samples of all the jams and jellies and butters!!
I think I would like to make a little mini quilt from my doll dress scraps…and put it in another shadowbox!
      Thanks for the idea!
      Blessings, Jeanne

Your shadowbox is lovely. Both the box itself and what you have done with it. Thanks for explaining all the parts rather than just showing a picture. It was a trip down memory lane we got to share with you. Have fun with Rebecca and Karn. It looks like you’re already on the way to a fun time. Baklava! I’m with Charlotte. Since we can’t be there you have to eat some for us too. Now you have an excuse for seriously indulging yourself.

    1. Thanks Barbara,
I’m glad you liked the shadowbox …me too!
The Baklava??? I had 4 or 5 pieces last night…and had to “cool it” today…they are SO good. It’s hard to resist!!
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. So nice to see your doll, Josephine, Joy. I loved her dress and the little chair. I just knew that had to be a Mary Engelbreit creation with the fried egg flowers. Glad she made in in without a hitch and I’m looking forward to your next dolly story.

Your shadowbox is really sweet,Jeanne. i like all the things you chose to place in it. I Have one of those “Sewing Susan” needle cards from my grandmother’s sewing supplies and also a needle card with the needles made in England.
The little paper dolls remind me of the antique ones I have from Lion Coffee. My dad gifted me those and albums of trade cards also by Lion Coffee and Woolson spice. I just love them! The lithographs are gorgeous.

Have a great time with Rebecca and Karn. Please save some Baklava for me. We had some lovely Greek friends who first showed me how it was made when i was a teen.

Thanks on my dolly caper. Unfortunately, a small package arrived Saturday, unexpectedly. I really didn’t know what it contained, so got caught. Although, other person does not know that it contained a couple of 6″ dolls. Ah ha! They are Rose BBblockling twins Hatley and Hetie. Their feet are 2.0mm, so very tiny. Poor Hatley is waiting for some boy shoes. He refused to wear the girl shoes we have here. I’ll get a pic when he isn’t sulking. 🙂

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Joy, did I miss this story? Oh my goodness, I love that boxes are coming so quickly that you are not able to keep up (laugh).

You really have to do Dolly Stand Up!

      2. Congratulations on your new BBflocking dolls…and congrats on getting them in the house! :o)
I hope you find Hatley some boy shoes soon… he really shouldn’t have to wear girls shoes!!
        Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Hi Laura,
The needles are inside my card too…I guess if I ever run out, I can steal one from inside. :o)

I hope to get the shadowbox hung on the wall tomorrow…

The little paper dolls are actually note cards…I used one once, but decided they were cute just to display…

We are having a really nice visit and are finding plenty to do!!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne
