Once again, Sara’s dress has changed…

If you’ve noticed, I seem to be a little distracted… anyone notice? I’ve got too many irons in the fire right at the moment, but it’s okay… My sister, Cindy and her hubby are coming on Friday and will stay till Sunday morning. Then they are “kidnapping” me and taking me with them to Springfield, MO, where my sister Deb, lives. We’ll be gone a few days and then come back to my house.

I have been trying to do a little housecleaning, helping my hubby get things in order for when I am gone and fit in a bit of sewing each day… I have been reading your comments, but haven’t had time to comment… sorry…

I am very excited as I haven’t done anything fun and girlie for a while… :o)

You won’t believe it, but I changed the dress again… well, maybe you will believe it when you see pictures…

It just seemed that so many of you couldn’t see the tiny buttons, so I thought, “What’s the point of having them?” So I took them off…
Then I had a plain dress but the fabric was very pretty… Shara commented why didn’t I just let the beautiful fabric speak for itself?
I guessed she was right, but the dress DID need something, so I started searching in all my trims and laces again and found this piece of vintage tatted lace and wondered if it might work. The only problem was, it was half pink and half cream threads. Hmmmm….

I tried very carefully to cut the pink part off but it was all made together, so the pink HAD to stay. How could I make it work?

Well, if I turned it upside down and hand stitched it on, I might be able to keep the pink part from showing… it took a little bit of doing, and a few rows of basting to hold it in place, but I could see that it just might work, so I hand whip stitched it onto the lining of the dress bodice… You can see it here… Not exactly beautiful on the inside, but the result on the right side was very nice…

This is what it looks like from the outside…

The back…

Here is the dress from a little bit further back…

I didn’t have time to get her sash made, but I did get a few more things made…

…a pretty half slip and a sweet bralette…

There was only one problem… where that little rose flower is on her bralette…

…it makes her dress stand out to a point… RIGHT in the MIDDLE… and it looks a bit silly…

So, I’m going to have to do a little “flat” hand embroidery and remove that tiny rosebud…

I’m still debating on her shoes and her hair accessory…

But I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, yes, that tatted lace is Perfect! Leave it to you to figure out a good way to use it. As someone who knows how to tat (although it’s been a good many years since I last tried), I can tell you that, indeed, it’s all connected, as you said–there’s no way to take the pink off. However, if I’d known…I could have sent you some tatted lace! It’s machine-tatted, but it might have worked, too! I have tiny and I have more small/medium sized edgings. I may have some hand-tatted lace somewhere, too, but couldn’t guarantee the color on that.

Oh, I see what you mean about the rosebud on the bralet! Can’t have her sticking out in the “wrong” place!! šŸ˜‚ That would be embarrassing, to say the least!

The petticoat is just the right color, not too “white-white”. Lovely outfit!!

I meant to say, I’m so glad you’re going to get a chance to spend some time with your sisters again! Roadtrip, too!! Fun!

What a perfect save, Jeanne, and unless someone from here buys the dress, what a surprise the new owner will get when she takes the dress off, unless you show it in the auction! That is just plain adorable! The tatted lace accents the fabric perfectly!

I was thinking, maybe a ribbon, tied in the front on the side, might be cute, as well as tied in the back. The slip and bralette are perfect for the dress, but yes, you have to remove that flower on the bralette for sure!

Since the dress is not overly fussy, I think a beautiful straw hat would make the dress shine! After all, isn’t it supposed to be an Easter dress?

I’m happy you will get to spend time with your sisters, and this weekend should be nice, but oh dear, another dreary day filled with raindrops here! Joy, come and bring your buckets!!

I think we’d need to ship a freight train of water which probably wouldn’t even help that much. But, thanks so much for the offer. šŸ™‚

    Dear Jeanne,
I am so very pleased that you tried the lace around the neck and sleeves. And the others were right about removing the little buttons as they got lost. Having two choices of ribbon sashes is wonderful and the little bralet, once flatter, is sweet. Iā€™m always a ā€œless is moreā€ fan, so I would stay away from any more busyness unless a pretty straw hat . Nice going, Mrs. W.! Also delighted you will have some great girl time with the sisters away from home. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. šŸ™ŒšŸ‘šŸ„°

BARBARA, about Magalieā€™s dolls. From what I read last night, ALL of her dolls are now $575 with a $175 down payment. The Dreamers she posted yesterday are $890 with shipping because there is no wait time for those. Everything is still about a year. Have to say I was sorely tempted yesterday, but I have no shoes or outfits from other dolls that will work for a Dreamer. I donā€™t sew any more and donā€™t have the space or desire to buy even a few outfits.

Ruby Red is doing their first set of limited edition Siblies on Sundayā€¦.the mad frenzy. Ugh. They are in very cute Steampunk outfits, a boy and a girl. There will be free shipping if you buy both. Iā€™ll be taking a break from the madness this time. We got word that Josephine, whom many of you did not like, got shipped out yesterday. I will be happy to see her arrive before we go away for our two week trip.

Have a super day, ladies, and DOROTHY in PA/WORLD, thanks for the convention dates. ANNE, I hope the improvement continues and that you got your second opinion. ALINA, always love and support.

Sally, thanks for the info on Magalie’s dolls. I still have an LD from her on its way sometime around September. That will be my last Little Darling. It gives me one of all four sculpts and that was my goal. I would love a ball-jointed LD but the price for them is way outside my dolly budget and saving up could take a while.
At my age I’m trying for as close to instant gratification as I can get. There are two more Dreamers in the offing. One named Ashlynn sometime around the end of this year and Alora sometime in the spring. I don’t know what’s after that with them but I can tell you I adore my Evianna. Her face looks as close to hand-painted as I’ve ever seen on a mass produced doll.

BARBARA, I hear you loud and clear on the instant gratification, but I am so happy you are so thrilled with your little girl. I read that article about more coming along. Itā€™s so nice the company is making Effner dolls more affordable and more ā€œinstantaneous ā€œ for us. Also, having an LD in each of the sculpts is very fun. Congratulations on getting the tights right. We are all anticipating your photos!

Sally, good sleuthing on all of the new offerings. I just pried myself away from Magalieā€™s website. I will happily wait for my LD anticipated in June and for Josephine. I did not get any shipment info so I will watch the porch.

Hey, Debbie! How are things with you? Are all the packing boxes history, I hope and you feel well appointed by now?
Werenā€™t those 6 little dolls Magalie posted yesterday precious? So you have a LD coming from her in June? What fun! You saw that Barbara is expecting one this fall. šŸ‘šŸ‘
As for Josefine, RR said on FB that they were shipped yesterday. This comment they made to me was made 11 hours ago (itā€™s currently 3:30 Mountain Time) and they were waiting for word from their shipping agent about tracking. Once they get it, it will be available online. Ha! The dolls might be on our porches by the time that happens, right? Or they get lost at seaā€¦No, I did not get an email with this information. šŸŒŗ

        1. Debbie in North Carolina

Hi Sally, Not lost at sea! šŸ„ŗ I am looking forward to Josephine.
I am sad to say that all of the china cabinet and pictures for the wall are still in boxes. We could not decide on the furniture placement finally flipping the dining room and living room which is one large space. On Feb. 14 the renovation of the master bath started. It was supposed to take 2 weeks. They will finish tomorrow. After that we will finish! Thanks for asking. šŸ™‚
Those Lil Dreamers are fabulous! I am sitting on my hands. (For now)

Dear Sally, you are welcome. I hope some folks get to go. I don’t think I am going to any conventions. I will be going to the Madame Alexander Doll Club luncheon in the Fall.

  5. Hello Jeanne,
    Good morning to all,
The dress looks so pretty with an amazing perfect fit.
Have fun with your sisters. You deserve it.
Have a wonderful day all of you!

Oh how fun to have a trip in the works. Should be a lovely drive to Springfield. Hope you and sisters can find some time to shop thrift/antique stores somewhere as well. Right now, I’m on the lookout for vintage plastic dollhouse furniture. Let me know if you find any. šŸ™‚ Just kidding.
Sometimes it is just a good idea to stand back and look at a dress from the sidelines for awhile. For me, the slip is just lovely, but I would love to see a different style vintage look top with shoulder straps that buttons down the back instead of the bra. I’ve always loved tatting so maybe the new trim will grow on me. I guess I would have liked seeing tiny lace sewn to the neckline, but not sticking out above. Kind of looks like it is poking her in the neck. Maybe when the pretty blue sash appears it won’t bother me as much. I’d still like to see a couple of those tiny blue matching buttons on top of a slightly larger gold one as an accent on the front. Regardless, that fabric is striking and Sara, is a lucky girl. šŸ™‚ Hope Sara gets to look for eggs in the grass outside for one of her photos. She might need a straw hat to shield her delicate skin for the sun’s brilliant rays.
Hope you can snap a few pics of the scenery on the way to Springfield. Your trip should be so much fun and well deserved. Sounds like George is on the mend and can fend for himself for a few days which is great news. I would like to see a picture of how those German Owls are doing if you still have them. šŸ™‚

  7. Jeanne, so glad you will get some sister time! Thatā€™ll be a nice break for you and just what you need!! šŸŽ¶ Sisters šŸŽ¶ – Iā€™m singing that song in my mind about sisters from the 1954 White Christmas movie with Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. Makes me think of all of us who enjoy being with our sisters!!

With all the changes youā€™ve made on Saraā€™s dress, itā€™s still going to be a hit! The slip and bralet are really nice and always a plus when you add them. It is always exciting to see what you will add to compliment the outfits. This dress is sweet, feminine and speaks of spring and Easter!

  8. I wondered what would be different and that was a big surprise. That fabric is so lovely it does well without the lace, but oh that tatting! It is perfect. Will be fun to see what all you doing the accessory dept.
Have a super time with your sisters!

I really like the tatted lace on this dress. The fabric is so beautiful it doesn’t need much embellishment. I love tatted lace and actually have the stuff to learn it – another thing that will happen when I finally discover where I put my round tuit.

Evianna finally got her pretty little lace tights yesterday and I now have the perfect pattern to make her more. It was a struggle. My original pattern was for Wellie tights. I reduced that pattern according to the instructions I found but it ended up not needing much reduction which surprised me. The final reduction was only 10% and the tights fit perfectly. I’m wondering now if I printed out the original pattern the right size so I’m going to check on that.

Have a fun time with your sisters. You deserve a break. I’m glad to hear that George is doing well enough for you to leave for a few days. We’ll be waiting patiently on the sofa for your return with the details of your trip.

Jeanne, I think you are due for a little fun with your sisters. Have a wonderful trip.
Saraā€™s dress is lovely with the tatting at the neck and sleeves.

We used to live about 30 minutes north of Springfield, MO! We would drive there for the Latin Mass. We also lived South of it between Branson and Springfield near Highlandville. It was fun to visit Bass Pro Shops and see the turtles, birds, and fish. Hope you enjoy yourself šŸ™‚

Dear Jeanne, yeaaaa, a sister road trip! I am so excited for you. You are going to have so much fun.
