Welcome to my 3 new subscribers who joined the blog over the weekend! I hope you’ll join right in with the rest of the ladies… We have a lot of fun on here…
I managed, late Sunday evening to get a new doll dress cut out and “started” but only have limited pictures of it so far… BUT the great news is… my camera picked up the colors of the fabric almost perfectly… I have no doubt, with some better lighting and a little help from me, I’ll be able to make this look online just like it does in person! I am thrilled over that!
My hubby has been resting and is doing well… he has to take it easy and I’ve been trying to help him out with things he usually does…
Thank you again for your prayers!
Okay, now I have something that just tugs at my heart I wanted to show you. I was on my phone and this picture from the Civil War popped up, I think on Facebook. You KNOW how much I love Civil War dresses, but this time I actually didn’t even notice the dress… it was the little girls face.. I don’t think I have to say any more… I left the person’s name who posted the picture at the top…
Isn’t that the sweetest, saddest, most adorable, cutest, make you cry picture you’ve ever seen? I have looked at thousands of pictures of Civil War dresses and children’s clothing and never ever did I see this picture. I think I’d love to have this hanging in my sewing room!
Okay, now who’s getting the next dress? Well, it’s Sara, my very first Ruby Red Fashion Friends doll. I had a hard time trying to decide who would be next and I spotted this fabric on my shelf and it reminded me Sara’s eyes, and I got her off the shelf and laid this fabric on top of her and that was all it took… Sara was next.
It’s a very pretty fabric… and is gilded (outlined in gold) in places… the blue/teal is very pretty and is a nice scale for a doll her size. (14.5″) All of my pictures are of the same shot basically, but you can see I got the bodice lined and ready for the sleeves…
The sleeves are ready, but not put in yet… I gathered one of them up so you could see how they “will” look in just a bit!
I hope you’re liking it so far… Sara is thrilled!
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m glad to hear George is doing well–and resting as he should! That’s something difficult for most men, I think!! LOL
Oh, my goodness, that photo is hilarious!! That little girl did NOT want her photo taken that day, I’m guessing!! And the name of the poster: “Dead Fred’s Genealogy Photo Archive”. Dead Fred….what a title!! (after one of his/her ancestors, I imagine!!)
That fabric is really lovely on Sara. It’s sophisticated enough to make a more “grown-up” dress for her. Can’t wait to see how this outfit evolves!
Jeanne, I’m so glad to hear that George is recuperating well and on his way to recovery! He certainly has had his share of health problems but seems to get right back into the groove quickly. I think it is his positive attitude that helps!
Oh my gosh, that picture! Poor little girl, I’m sure all of us with children at one time or other can relate to this!
If I ever get a RRFF, it would be Sara! She looks so sweet in that print, and I am happy that she is the one getting a new Easter dress! I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings to this dress, and I am sure you will knock it out of the box! Any bunnies lurking around for her to hold, or maybe a tiny Easter basket?
Just think what a great friend Sara would be for your Betsy McCall. A lot of the sellers have special sales with free shipping which definitely helps bring down the cost. Not that I’m trying to sway you in the RRFF direction. 🙂
Good morning. Three cheers for recovery and such a helpful wife. Hope this week goes well for both of you.
Thrilled Sara is getting the first Easter dress because I have totally fallen in love with these dolls. Gorgeous fabric, Jeanne. It’s going to be a beauty, and congrats on the Molly dress!
As for that picture…just so endearing. Don’t we all feel like that some days?? I sure do.
Thanks so much for all of this fun, and happy spring to everyone. I almost hated taking down our Christmas wreaths outdoors yesterday because they still looked gorgeous; I have sprayed them often to keep them fresh looking all winter. Well, they’re in the trash and a spring wreath is by the front door now. 😊
Glad to hear that George is getting some lounging around time. I’m sure he’s making a list of what he wants to do first when his recovery is complete. Go George. 🙂
Oh boy. Sara looks thrilled to be the latest fashion choice. Very pretty fabric too. Hope it might be possible for an outdoor photo with that lush green grass you have in the background. Maybe a few mini Easter eggs hidden in the grass as well. 🙂
We’re going to be in the 80’s this week. No rain in sight.
That picture of the sad little girl just grabs you! A photographer with a sense of humor for sure…wonder if they ever got a smile out of her.
Best wishes for George…Mike was pretty slow after his pacemaker double surgery but we worked in the yard yesterday and we both felt fine after 2 Advil and a big ice water😉
The dress for Sara is going to be a knockout. Darling print and perfect color. You always get the neckline to fit exactly. Three rows of gathers on the top of the sleeve? That is something I’ll have to try😉
We are having 5 relatives coming for a week….I may be reading only depending on how much they are out ….which may not be much cause we are finally supposed to get rain this week too!
I saw where you asked if I quilted? I made one years ago, but nothing since. However, I do come from a line of quilters. Both grandmothers were excellent quilters. In fact, I have some of theirs as well as one by my great great grandmother done about 1870-80. Pretty threadbare, but the red/black colors of the quilt are still apparent. 🙂
Congrats on the successful auction for Molly’s dress. I was watching for a while but didn’t tune in for the end till all was over. Seems like someone came out of the blue to make the winning bid. These auctions are definitely unpredictable.
I love the picture. Reminds me of some of the Santa Claus pictures with my two when they were little. Someone asked me once why I bothered doing it when I was pretty sure what would happen. That has been the fun of it. Showing the picture to them when they are grown – not to mention the fun of showing it to the grandkids. I’ve had some good times with those pictures.
Sara’s dress is going to be beautiful and look so nice on her. So spring-looking. Can’t wait to see the entire Easter ensemble. I’m working on Evianna’s real Easter dress. My first try ended up looking better on MA Lissy. I plan on spending my afternoon in my sewing room so the dress will probably be finished today. Then I need to decide what will go with it. I really need to learn how to make those straw hats/bonnets. They are so lovely and would look so sweet on Evianna. I also have a pattern for a straw boater hat for all size dolls and I need to get acquainted with that. One of those would look great with my LD Greer Adele’s new Easter outfit. There are several ways to do the stitching and the instructions are a bit intimidating, but I’ve done a lot of plastic canvas and that is the technique used to do them.
Beautiful day here yesterday. Warm sun, cool air. Delightful! Today we will have rain all day so the guys can’t work on the A/C at the church. That job is slowing down the installation of my bathroom vanity. They can’t do it a day here or a day there because right now we only have one bathroom (second one coming soon) and it can’t be out of commission for more than one day – and that will be a struggle.
Saw today that Magalie is now painting Evianna’s and will have several for sale on her site on Wednesday, the 23rd. Unsure if it will be a grab sale or how it will work, but I’m sure the girls will be lovely.
Hi, I agree with all that has been said today, sure glad that George is doing well and all of your dresses are selling well. Love the picture of the little girl and the thought I had about you having it hanging in your sewing room is that she is upset that your dresses don’t fit her or she does have enough money to buy one! We are having an early Spring here in NH, that is for this week, we never quite know what is ahead of us as far as the weather goes. Have a good day!
I’m glad George is doing well and taking it easy.
Molly’s dress certainly went off well. Quite sad for the “someone” who lost it in the last seconds. I watch the auctions only if I happen to be watching something online at the last five minutes of time and can switch over or “know” whose interested in the dress. Those “under the wire” bidders can really get you. Technically, that was my bidding style when I was building my PC/AG collections, but I was disappointed a few times as well at the beginning. Glad those days are over.
That little girl is just too funny. I’m sure she just didn’t understanding about having her picture taken. Hopefully there’s a smiling version of her.
Sara’s dress will be very cute. The print is perfect for spring. The gilding makes it extra special. I have some blue pansy fabric with gilding that I just love, but haven’t used for anything yet.
Glad George is resting and relaxing. Bet his mind is moving a mile a minute on things he wants to do.
Oh my… that picture! Some little girl does not want her picture taken – no siree!! Poor baby!
Loving this material print and it looks great on Sara. Looking forward to seeing tomorrow’s addition.
Everyone, have a great Monday!
Good morning from sunny Christchurch – not! After a long, dry spell it rained last night (and rained and rained)! I have a large covered deck and the rain got under there as well. I guess it was windy too. We are at the other end of the seasons here, of course. Now it is Autumn (fall) and the nights are getting very long, it is very dark when I get up in the morning.
I am glad George is doing well, I have been reading the blog. I have been praying too. Just make sure he rests and doesn’t start on his to do list too soon (I’m sure he has one).
The last few weeks have been really difficult. The tablets the Doctor gave me really upset my stomach, even with the other tablets he gave me to supposedly stopping that happening. Since then my hip has deteriorated to the extent I was in excruciating pain. I have realised that pain is exhausting! Sam eventually got me an appointment with her doctor for a second opinion and I was supposed to see her last Thursday. Unfortunately she was isolating because a close family member had tested positive but she did talk to me on the phone and made another appointment for Wednesday (tomorrow). However on Sunday the pain wasn’t quite as bad and Sunday night I slept all night. There is still an improvement today, it still hurts and I can’t walk far so Louis hardly ever gets to go out but it isn’t as bad as it was so I feel I have a little more energy for other things.
Congratulations on the auction for Molly’s dress. I would have loved a dress like that though most of my dresses were that style, it was very typical of the time. I’m looking forward to seeing Sara’s new dress, the fabric is very pretty. My Sara still hasn’t got a new dress yet, I’ll get around to it sometime I’m sure.
Have a good day everyone.
So sorry you are having so much pain. Is it from arthritis? or bone loss? Not that it makes much difference, both cause pain. Be thinking of you especially as your fall/winter approaches. I don’t think the cold weather helps at all.
Hope you can sew a dress for your Sara. The one living here tells me that she has the fabric all picked out for her dress. That one, with the bunnies. 🙂
I’m so sorry to hear about your pain, Anne. Yes, it can be exhausting, that’s for sure!! Even though it’s starting to feel better, do follow thru with that 2nd opinion; you’ll be glad you did, I think! Praying for quality sleep for you, despite the pain, and for a solution for the pain, also!!
Dear Nurse Jeanne, thank you for letting us know about your special patient. You are taking very good care of him.
The fabric you have selected is very pretty. I am sure she will look lovely in the dress.
